Kinda bland, but not bad
I got 125. It's kinda fun, I like how the scythe spins around the player. The fullscreen was bugged though in a way that the game screen didn't expand and you could see grey around the game.
The idea is cool, and the aesthetic is very Flash-y (as in like a good old Flash game), but it feels a bit "dry" when it has the potential to be extremely juicy.
Also, the scythe's hitbox is a bit unclear (but not frustrating either, I didn't have a bad time). It would also be nice to see the wheat grow back less suddenly, but this is already good as a compo game.
@cagibi Thank you for the feedback. I was going for the style of classic flash browser games, so I appreciate that a lot.
It definitely needs some more animations, and especially more player feedback to help it hit that sweet spot- I was just scared of biting off more than I could chew with my first game jam. I'll use that feedback once the jam is over though, so thank you very much.
67 on my first, 85 on my second try ! I'm having a non-qwerty keyboard, so having also a possibility to move using arrows would be nice - because awsd keys are not nearby on my keyboard. The timer explained by the sun moving through the day is a neat idea, and well adapted.
I can see an hint on your website's icon that you are using Godot : I love Godot!
Anyway, good game. And top on theme.
Thanks to the simple gameplay and a scoring system your game got me hooked. Unfortunatelly there's a limit to the points you can get because of the respawn time. I never quite reached 150 but get 140+ consistently. Good fun, great submission.<3
@sdelay Sorry about the key bindings. I'll get that sorted post-LD. The sun just feels like such an organic way to time the game- and the fact you can only see it again when you have so little time left helps bring a sense of urgency, I think.
Godot is amazing, isn't it? It just works, with minimal fuss. I wouldn't have managed in time in any other engine (that I've used).
Thank you for your comment, and review!
@schnodelfactory Great score! With the respawn time, and the actual game timer, (and accounting for the time to swing the scythe), my estimate would be that pixel-perfect play with incredible luck could probably net 200 points. I think the fun with the scores comes from getting that one extra point- a scoreboard would have been great, though I don't have the knowledge to implement that.
nice done. Fits absolutely to the theme. Easy to play. Easy to understand.
You got the looks right; this really looks like old flash games. It has its charm! I think this is a good first time LD entry. And Godot is indeed amazing. :)
Solid entry overall. The music and the sfx fits well with the game and the gameplay is fun. For some feedback, I think it can feel a lot more satisfying if you make the scyth swing faster, and perhaps some animation on the crops being cut. Overall a nice game!
I scored 93 on my first try. You could have pushed for something like multiple runs with power-ups in-between.
I did not find much use of the mechanic of swinging closkwise vs counter-clockwise, to be honest. Maybe some other alternative action would have been nice.
Overall it's a nice game that can be improved and turned into something.
@math1369 Thanks!
@dzejpi Thank you. All the art is vector graphics converted to png's- it would probably look 'better' if left in vector form, but I have a soft spot for the fuzzy edges- maybe it's nostalgia, I don't know. But I'm glad you appreciated it too.
@papaya Thanks for the feedback. Crop cutting animation was something I wanted to add, but I'm very slow at animations to begin with, and there just wasn't enough time. I'll look into the Scythe post-LD as well- I think you have a good point there.
@tanis Powerups were something I initially considered, but quickly dropped to try and focus on the main elements. As for the scythe-swinging, it can help you get a higher score- having tried runs with and without rotating the scythe, it lets you grab more wheat from the edges, as you don't have to move as far. It was hard to try and find a balance between making it important to rotate the scythe, without making the best strategy just spinning it around yourself. I don't think that balance is perfect, but I do still think I've got it to the point where it's the best strategy, provided you can do it properly (easier said than done!).
127 was my max here, I tried different strats, but the move-in-a-circle while adjusting the scythe to point outwards strategy was my most successful one. Very fun gameplay loop, it has that arcade feeling where you just want to jump in again, try one more time to get a higher high score. Very addicting. Very well done!
Congrats on your first LD game! Nice art style and scythe sound effect :) I will settle on my 115 score. One thing I can think of it to change swing system to: swing to left to cut wheat and then to the right to be able to take another swing to the left and cut wheat again, plus some time even so player would had to make in in rhythm. But that is juts an idea. Anyway, good job! Hope you had fine making, since that is the most important part of LD, and I hope will see you in next LDs too :)
I scored 130 :) Definitely a very simple game but feels nice to play. Congrats on your first LD entry!
I'm gonna argue that this game is highly skill-based, and a fantastic entry for your first jam! Since the level doesn't last for that long, it's really tempting to give it another try.. and another.. and another  I tried several different strategies, but couldn't beat my highscore of 141.
Great job on the graphics and music - and I'd say you nailed the theme 100%
Great stuff for your first jam! Would have been cool to see a timer/countdown for clarity's sake. Art style is nice and clear, the music fits as well. I would have liked to see a bit faster animation on the scythe, but that's a minor nitpick. Well done!
@zimny11 I did consider having actions that only moved the scythe, rather than cutting wheat: there was a time where if you turned the scythe to point a different direction, that was a short action where you didn't actually cut anything. But in the end, I felt that it hurt the momentum of the game. I think it works best when you can constantly, fervently try and increase your score.
@chartle Scythe speed will definitely be increased later. The current speed is actually pretty arbitrary. As for the countdown timer, I stuck with just the sun to try and stop players from optimising too much (i.e. if you haven't got 100 points by the 30 second mark, you reload the page) and to avoid having too much to look at- all you have to see is the number and the sun on the left in your periphery, so it's easier to focus on gameplay.
@captaindreamcast Glad it pulled you in. That circling around the outside is the same strategy I use; I think it's the best one, though with the empty patches you can come across, I'm not 100% certain.
@maymay Thanks!
@fnkee Thank you. It is meant to be the sort of arcade style experience where you think you can grab one point more- good to hear it works, and that you enjoyed the atmosphere too.
Good job! It's fun and enjoyable to play
This was a fun little game. It definitely had that arcadey feel which tempted me to keep going for one more run to try to improve my score. The art and music were well done! I appreciated the in-game tutorial as it is something that is often neglected in a jam game!
Great work!
Very fleshy and arcade :) I liked it
 I didn't get anywhere close to 120. (I got 87). I hard a bit of hard time getting the hang of it. Sometimes I thought I was swinging the scythe over the wheat. Congratulations on creating your first jam game! 48 hours is an impressive time to make any kind of game in. Well done!
Seems super simple at first, but there's a surprising amount of depth to getting the cadence of the swings down for optimal harvesting! I like that the short gameplay encourages you to try again and beat your high score (mine's currently 127). Clever use of the rising and setting sun as a timer too!
I enjoyed thinking about which way to turn the scythe to harvest more wheat. It is a good game.
A fun and well executed little game with lovely music. Well done!
