LD52 — Harvest

Grim Harvest by automatonvx 2023-01-20T18:15:08Z

A fun entry! Loved the pixel graphics and audio. It felt well polished especially for a compo entry. Maybe I was just unlucky, but I had a hard time finding weapons (though it was probably safer for me to just avoid the guards haha).

Lunar Harvest by blubberquark 2023-01-25T20:21:36Z

I didn't realize I needed to bring the cows off the top of the level at first, but once I figured that out it was decently fun! The tractor beam physics were neat, and the pixel graphics were good. I felt the UFO moved a little slowly (especially left to right) which made dodging the fast missile things very hard.

MegaDeth by KekkoDude 2023-01-24T17:52:55Z

Nice graphics! It's a bit abrupt how the round ends you are suddenly back in the van. I thought it was a bug at first until I noticed the timer was running out.

Avian Reaper by MaximBegunov 2023-01-17T21:27:17Z

Love the medieval art style and overall feel of the game! Took me a bit to understand what was going on gameplay-wise, but it helped that the new features were introduced gradually as the game progressed. Great work!

River of Souls by nardandas 2023-01-17T21:08:55Z

Well polished game for such as short development time! Sucking up the blue gems is fun, and I like the physics of how they gravitate towards you when you right click. The pixel art and sound effects are well done too. I kept forgetting about the knockback which was jarring when I'd suddenly fall off the back after shooting a bunch. That said, I like that there's a mechanic to encourage you to limit your rate of fire.

Square Factory by rodel77 2023-01-19T17:50:49Z

Fun little idle game! The graphics and audio were well polished.

Chewberries by Flightless 2023-01-25T20:14:36Z

Nice graphics and a catchy background song! I appreciated the tutorial built in to the beginning of the game. I had a little trouble initially. It wasn't clear that the berries will hunt out and seek the larvae on their own. My attempts at moving them around to the larvae in order for them to eat faster didn't always work out. That said, a solid compo entry!

Hortirata by Szieberth Adam 2023-01-24T18:33:31Z

A well polished compo entry! A simple concept, but it's surprisingly challenging as the levels progress. I make use of the strategy you mentioned in a previous comment (click around until you're one harvest away from equilibrium and then brute force check the final click). Love the art too. It would be nice to have some audio, but all in all nice work! Also, props for using C. I don't see many LD entries written in it :)

Midnight Harvest by SirLich 2023-01-24T17:45:51Z

Fun concept! Nice application of the theme into an enjoyable (if not challenging) game. Started having trouble remembering everything around level 6-7 haha. The randomized mushrooms were well done as was the scene where they are growing.

Harvestar by CaptAndrey 2023-01-18T18:12:53Z

Interesting concept for a game, especially as an astronomy enthusiast! The number of stars ramped up very quickly and it become too hard for me to find constellations after the first or second one, but I think the idea has some legs!

Octo Garden by AppoxGames 2023-01-20T18:03:52Z

Nice polished graphics! The explosions looked nice and were very satisfying to chain together. The game is pretty soothing to play. I agree with others' feedback that the controls felt a bit sluggish but on the other hand it made it more challenging which was nice.

Type-Eat by Srynetix 2023-01-17T21:45:24Z

A solid amount of polish on the graphics / sound given the time constraints! Especially love the animation at the end when all your collected food drops into the cauldron. I wish the initial rounds with 1-3 letters would go quicker, since it's a little tedious at the start. Also, I wish you could recover somehow when missing a letter since dying at the first mistake is brutal haha. All in all a fun one!

Harvest Mania by shahinm 2023-01-18T18:27:46Z

Finding the right balance between collecting pollen but then harvesting when things get too hectic was fun! I invested in pumpkins early on to maximize pollen production, but then shifted toward sunflowers at the end for maximum cash when harvesting. The animations and graphics were enjoyable, and I think this was a great first LD entry!

Water Tower by KeithSwanger 2023-01-17T20:45:10Z

Fun game! It was super satisfying to hit a tomato at long range on the first try. I like how the challenges put my spatial reasoning to work with trying to figure out "is that the smallest tomato, or is it just further away?". The music was very catchy too. Did anyone else mark the center of their screen with their finger in order to do the no-scope challenges more easily

Settlement by Corporation 2023-01-19T21:46:21Z

Nice simple game flow, but it offers a nice amount of depth to strategize on when to focus on certain commodities. The graphics had nice polish and the interface was very clean! All in all a very satisfying game to play. Just a couple points of feedback:

- Sometimes, I'll get stuck with a full inventory but don't have the gold / resources to build anything. At this point, I'm just waiting to roll a 7 for the merchant, which can stink when it takes 10 rolls to get one and in the meantime I'm missing out on the other resources. It could be cool to have some sort of trade-in mechanism that is always present where you can sell resources for less than the trader would offer or trade in resources at a bad rate (e.g. kind of like the 4:1 trades you can do in Catan). That way you could at least clear room in your inventory for the resources you need without depending on the merchant all the time.

- The 70-turn game length seemed too short to take advantage of upgrading the settlements into cities. It felt like storage space was a much more limiting factor for me. Upgrading to a city was both too expensive and maybe not worth it since I didn't have the storage space to handle the 2x resources.

This was a great entry overall! Really enjoyed playing it.

Selective Reaper by Nick Sandison 2023-01-18T18:33:38Z

Humorous style and concept! It was entertaining trying to guess how each character was going to meet their end haha. I wish the deaths were somewhat randomized to make the game more challenging on replay though, I guess knowing what's going to happen allowed me to get a higher score :)

Fenasi by Cagil Ozdemirag 2023-01-25T20:38:23Z

A solid entry! I liked the in-game tutorial, and the graphics were fun and immersive. Once I got the hang of it, it seemed too easy. I killed all the veggies and was just running back and forth from the water for most of it. The veggies stopped spawning so I could only max out at around 12 harvests due to running out of seeds. It would've been cool to have the game continue but get harder in some way (e.g. maybe veggies attack you or you have to venture around the map more to find what you need). All in all though a great start!

Children of the Combine by MilkWine 2023-01-17T21:02:06Z

The gameplay could be more exciting and challenging, but I think what stood out the most here was the style! Loved the cutscenes, voiceovers, and overall vibe. Feels like a piece you could see at a modern art show.

Maize - Harvest Edition LD52 by Itzemii 2023-01-24T18:14:23Z

Fun concept! It reminded me of those puzzle games where you need to connect all the dots or whatever with a single line. If it were even more punishing to drive over empty ground, that might incentivize people to find the most optimal path.

EarthWorm Bob by Senso 2023-01-17T21:54:30Z

Compelling core game mechanic! It's very satisfying to launch Bob out of the ground and chomp on some flies as you fly across the sky. The art was enjoyable and the sound effects were good. My main feedback is that the UI was a little cluttered at first glance since there's a lot of bars and meters going on, but overall a fun entry!

Plot Luck by Ani 2023-01-17T21:35:04Z

Adorable art and music style! The slots mechanic was quite fun to play. I like the ability to cash in the stars to adjust or freeze a wheel, which adds a nice strategic component. Great compo entry!

DaLetterFarm(Word-game) by Wendy222 2023-01-25T20:50:43Z

Great graphics, sound, and concept! I think the biggest frustration for me was the controls. Using the mouse for everything was clunky and as far as I could tell, you couldn't delete a letter once you clicked it unless you submitted the word. It would've been nice to allow keyboard input.

Otherwise, I love the concept of a word game where you have to strategize the night/day letter generation. Well done!

Reap by Ipsl0re 2023-01-17T22:11:45Z

Seems super simple at first, but there's a surprising amount of depth to getting the cadence of the swings down for optimal harvesting! I like that the short gameplay encourages you to try again and beat your high score (mine's currently 127). Clever use of the rising and setting sun as a timer too!

Harvest Farmer by Dropzee 2023-01-17T20:28:29Z

Love the graphics, especially the animations of the vegetables as they grow! The core mechanic is simple, but gets fun as the number of fields goes up and you are switching between them frantically to maximize your output  . It could be interesting to have crops start to rot if you don't harvest them quick enough or something like that to make it even more challenging!

Moon Harvest by swarrizard 2023-01-17T22:05:51Z

@cagibi, thanks for playing and the good feedback! Yeah I agree that the game can end abruptly, especially since drawing platforms costs fuel (e.g. if you draw one that's too big, you can suddenly die). If I had more time, I was going to add some UI to indicate how much a platform will cost to build as you are dragging the mouse to build it. I also like your idea of something to indicate when fuel is low!

Moon Harvest by swarrizard 2023-01-18T18:42:03Z

@verttixpertti, totally agree. I unfortunately spent too much time at the end of the jam adding audio rather than balancing the parameters to make the game more challenging. Once you get the hang of it, it's fairly easy to stay alive indefinitely. With more time, I was planning to add obstacles/traps as well as limit the spawn rate as the game progresses to make it more and more challenging.

foodie farmer by CheeseHead games 2023-01-25T20:43:01Z

The controls felt good and the gameplay was snappy! The cooking element was satisfying too (I'm looking at you King's Feast!). The art and audio were well done for a compo. The UI could use a little polish but all in all a solid entry!

Starship Harvester by Galvanized Toadstool 2023-01-18T18:38:56Z

Great all around entry! The gameplay and physics felt smooth, and it was the right level of challenge to corral the debris into the ship. It was especially satisfying to wrangle one of the longer pieces. Love the graphics too. Well drawn sprites with some nice particle effects. Nice work!

Power Spud Harvest by Pojo79 2023-01-17T22:00:12Z

As others have mentioned, it wasn't clear that the beetles take multiple hits to kill. Otherwise, nice sprite animations and a fun entry!
