Hey, looks like the game isn't published on itch. I would also suggest linking directly to the repo -not the zip download: https://github.com/HDJKleissen/LD52_JAM

chartle 2023-01-09 19:48

@sirlich We're still setting up, but thanks!

Good game- there's a nice variety in the game modes, without any of them feeling out of place- though the first two are the highlights, both being very clear and controlling well. The art is also great- so well done there too.

deathbysnail 2023-01-10 13:29

I like the variety in the levels! the mice are my fave, although as a former rat owner I am pretty biased :rat:

I think the third level is the weakest.

Nice job!

karita 2023-01-10 13:30

Cute concept and fun to play! Different controls for different animals that get progressively harder makes it interesting and replayable. Really liked this one.

dicemeister 2023-01-10 13:39

Cute. I liked the first level best. The lizard one I couldn't seem to do anything but die instantly, and I had trouble getting the crow to go where I actually wanted it to, but the mouse level is very nice.

thejan14 2023-01-10 13:48

I love your game! Somehow the mice level never finished for me but the other levels worked perfectly fine. My favourite was the frog as it had the most precise movement but due to the low speed you had to plan out alot. This is how I did: Screenshot 2023-01-10 144751.png

schmalex 2023-01-10 14:02

Such a great little game! Well done! I really like how all the different creatures have their particular way of moving and the art is very sweet.

saskle 2023-01-10 14:51

@deathbysnail I had hamsters in the past, I feel exactly the same towards the mice level. I'm glad you liked our game!

saskle 2023-01-10 14:53

@dicemeister Thanks for playing! In the lizard level, you have to avoid the cacti, which can seem like an almost instant death as it moves so quickly.

skoufakis 2023-01-10 15:54

Had really fun playing it. Every level has his own nice mechanics. Can also recommend using a Controller. Makes it much better. especially the last two

minakorii 2023-01-10 16:35

That was really fun to play ! I couldn't pass the lvl 3 cuz i'm bad but that was a great idea

william-gauthier 2023-01-10 18:16

Wow, all these mechanics in a weekend that's impressive. Really nice feeling. I really love the snake system of the mouse, that's clever! Some suggestions for improvement: - Make the frog movement faster as well as the traps. It feels a bit too slow. - The lizard's movement should be a bit less punitive and random. It's quite hard to control.

That's fun ! It's really hard to control the player on the last two levels with keyboard (it's maybe easier with a controller) but overall it's pretty cool, well done !

talia 2023-01-10 20:20

I can agree with the other comments: The different mechanics for the different animals are pretty cool. On the harvesting theme: it's a good thing that someone (you) also thought about the little innocent animals. :rat: :frog:

hfsevans 2023-01-10 20:38

Really liked this! Great idea for a "Snake" style game. I think the levels went juuuuuuuuuuuuust a little to long, but I enjoyed it!

jeremyfa 2023-01-10 23:06

The music and the sounds perfectly match the mood of the game, and the graphics are good too! The fact that each animal behaves differently is also nice, although it can be quite difficult to understand at first how to control them. Maybe an improved version of the game could be composed of series of multiple levels per animal so that you can start simple and learn the mechanics first, and then move to more difficult levels with the same animal? Great game overall!

nani 2023-01-11 16:26

The music and the sounds are very good. I liked also how the game looks. However the controls were not easy to use except on the first level. It was confusing that the bird disappeared when you flew over the edges. Harvest-theme was present in the game.

paci 2023-01-11 16:29

Cool core concept, each animal has a unique feeling and I really liked unlocking them. I think all of them are not equally fun but I had a nice experience overall. The mouse is definitly my favorite. Really unique take on the theme, which is something I need to mention.

chompdev 2023-01-12 08:13

You've got a very cool little game here! I really like learning a new movement system for each critter, and having them all experience the same looming threat in different ways. The mouse level is adorable and I think you could probably make an entire game out of just building upon that mechanic. I really liked the bird swoop ability too.

If you add more features to the game later, it might be fun to play a low-stress first chapter of each animal's life, so you can get used to their movement mechanics, abilities, and nuances before ending up at the dangerous farm near the end of the game. Great work on this one - it's such a smart idea!

jackypark9852 2023-01-12 09:05

Fun game! It was mortifying to see my baby mice get mauled by the combine, but it made me be more careful. Played through this game without getting bored at all. This is practically four games in one! The only nit pick I would have is the crow controls. Left/Right to steer would have been more intuitive to me, as I can hold one button to steer in one direction. Overall, great game!

saskle 2023-01-13 14:45

@william-gauthier Those are some good suggestions, thank you for playing!

saskle 2023-01-13 14:48

@talia Thank you! We really didn't want to make a farm sim (nothing against farm sims!), so we were thinking hard about game ideas where the player wouldn't be the one doing the harvesting. ;)

saskle 2023-01-13 15:18

@jeremyfa It would definitely have been better to let the player get accustomed to each animal, sadly you have only so much time in a game jam! Still, learning the player how to play is always last on our list and it would probably good to give that more priority next time! Thanks for playing!

saskle 2023-01-13 15:19

@chompdev Thank you for playing and sharing your thoughts!

rustynoob 2023-01-13 17:08

Fun game. I found the controls a little finnicky but I thought it was a fun take on the theme

pyspher9 2023-01-14 04:29

You guys did a good job! Each animal brought it's own challenge and I liked that depth. Also, what on earth is Harv doing having that many clones of himself? Surely that's how he's so productive, but surely that's not right.

benk 2023-01-14 05:41

Fun game! I liked the first level *a lot* and I played it a few times to see how long I could get the mouse. It's a nice riff on Snake to avoid the tractor. That with the sound design and the music[1] was a really nice package.

Having the different animals with different control schemes and obstacles keeps things interesting... like warioware for animals. Like other people have said though, I found the gecko super difficult, the bird unsatisfying to control, and the frog a bit too slow (and the obstacles not super meaningful). If it was a matter of time, dropping the gecko and tuning the others might have been better.

[1] The music was super cool *except* I found the loud-trombone section maaaybe out of place with its intensity. Felt like a chase scene from a Pixar movie. Either way, it was very effective, and the sound design was great.

pat-cleaver 2023-01-14 09:05

@nani @jeremyfa thanks for your sweet comments on the sound/music, always happy when people notice my work, I’m glad you enjoyed the game and took the time to let us know!

pat-cleaver 2023-01-14 09:10

@benk thank you so much, “like a Pixar chase sequence” is quite the compliment and is pretty much what I was going for (specifically I wanted “80s/90s kids movie chase/scary sequence”, so perilous but still whimsical). You are correct, the highest point with the trombones is a bit over the edge, I think I just got a bit over enthusiastic 😄. Thanks for playing and for your very kind words!

kir-pow 2023-01-18 21:23

Awesome game. Gave me flashbacks of watching animals of farthing wood as a kid....oooh the trauma.

I really liked the "snake" mechanic on the mouse level. Being able to control how far the frog jumped was great and the graphics of them all on its back once they had been collected was a great touch. Struggled a bit with the lizard. The magpie level was funny but seemed a bit more out there than the other levels. Would definitely play more levels if you chose to continue to develop

dans17 2023-01-27 03:43

This was really well done and had an interesting take on the theme! I liked that you have different mechanics for each level, but I thought the first one was the most polished and fun to play. The soundtrack is also very good - what VSTs/samples did you use to make the orchestral sounds?

pat-cleaver 2023-01-27 07:18

@dans17 thanks for playing and for your kind words! I mostly used Spitfire‘a BBC Orchestra, and a couple things from projectSAM for the music. Glad you enjoyed it!
