This game is way too addicting. It's quite fun but can be very slow when waiting for the game to run.
Adding sound would make it much more satisfying.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD52 → Harvester Madness

I enjoyed your game. My entry has a little bit similar gameplay :) Is there a penalty in speed when you hit the edges of the screen?
Thanks @medow! I agree, sounds would have been a great improvements, unfortunately, my 48h came to an end far to quickly.
Thanks @th1z! There is no penalty in speed when hitting the edges. I think it would have been less satisfying and would make it very luck based to reach the end of the run.
Impressed how much progression you managed to fit into such a tiny game, respect!
Honestly really fun. I think there should be some way to lose though.
Pretty solid game! It's pretty satisfying to see the field get torn to shreds with a beefed up ultrawide harvester lol. Some sounds and less forced slow fade-to-blacks would make this game perfect
Well done! I really enjoyed playing it and found it to be very addictive. I also finished it! This game has the potential to be a really satisfying mobile game. One thing that could be improved is the length of the screen transitions, but overall it was a great game.
Great game. I agree completely with the comment above- This'd be amazing on mobile. As it is it's already one of the best examples of this kind of game, in my opinion. With sounds and a post game, this would be brilliant. If you take the time to do that for a non-LD version, I think it would be worthwhile.
Simple and effective, I played for 15 minutes and see the fireworks at the end! Good luck for the LD52 victory !
this is really nice!! simple but fun upgrade game :) it's interesting that upgrading the harvester width is actually detrimental long term, since (at least in my experience) the rocks ended up being the biggest bottleneck for progression, even with all the upgrades to reduce them (which to be fair didn't seem like they did much, but i assume they worked as intended)
nice work :)
Thanks for your comment @torcado
Indeed, increasing the width of the harvester increases the odds to collide with rocks. However, as your wheat gain is a function of your speed and the width of the harvester, if you don't do it I think you will gain wheat too slowly to buy the best upgrades. Moreover, this width also increases the odds to collect gas and, later on, speed boosts that, I think, are mandatory to reach the goal.
Regarding the upgrades, I did not want to add text in order for the game to be accessible to everyone… but I don't know if my iconography is really readable. Regarding the rocks, you have two upgrades: the first one (with a minus symbol) reduces the odds of rocks to appear and the second one (with down arrows) reduces the effect of the rocks. Moreover, the speed upgrade increases your max speed and, so, makes the rocks less effective (colliding with a rocks reduces your speed by a fixed value).
Got to the fireworks, woo! :) Awesome game and upgrade variety! I like how much strategy and replayability you got out of a restricted set of mechanics. The angle and speed selection is fun, and the upgrades are all well-balanced and enjoyable. Great ideas for the fuel can pickups and rock clearing. Eventually getting the max width harvester and the green (fusion boost?) put a big smile on my face. Great work on this one!
I love games where you can buy lots of upgrades to go further an further. Always fun!
great time killer. I liked that the slider jumps sharply after a high value to the lowest
the mechanics of the stones are also superbly interwoven, since you need to pump them first, and then the width of the combine.
this game is super addictive, super fun, really enjoyed every second of it! great job!
Great fun little game! Graphics are well suited for the type of game. I could see this being a fun little time waster.
I was not expecting there to be an actual end. It felt like the type of hyper casual game where you're always just trying to get further and further with no ultimate goal than to be your previous best distance.
I felt like there was a bit of a dry spell for upgrades in the early game. I'd suggest balancing it so that there are a couple of upgrades you can get easily within one or two runs in order to make the first time experience feel more impactful.
Great work for the 48h time line!
Really fun. Probably a good thing the fireworks hit at the end of the game otherwise I'm not sure how long I would have been playing.
At the start I wasn't sure whether it was better to aim up or to bounce side to side (because it seems like you avoid the rocks that way). The upgrade system is rather satisfying as well. A few sound effects would have really topped it off, though!
Well done.
I played a lot more with it than I initially expected. :fireworks:
it's so much fun speeding through the fields! definitely very addicting one small suggestion i would have though would be drawing the grass you have as a background also on top of the edges in order to cover up the brown trail you leave behind :)
Well... you made an addictive game in a LD, congratulations. Only wish it had audio, other than tha, amazing game!
Hey there, thank you for the game! I do enjoy an upgrade runner, so I'm happy that you made this one!
I was a bit surprised when I reached the end of the track, didn't expect to be an ending for this game!
I hope that you keep working on this game. This are some things I think would make the game nicer: - Definitely include some sound effects :-) - Maybe add some way for the player to interact during the race? - I had some difficulty understanding what the different upgrades did. Maybe a short text explaining them?
Anyway, thanks, it was really fun playing it!
Simple to play. The upgrades are addictive. Too bad there's no sounds! I liked the little "particle" effects when harvesting & in the fuel & energy bar UI.
The progression of the game is well thought out. It is very satisfying to upgrade aspects of the tractor/field. Though I think it sort of tapers off eventually. Too bad there is no audio, but the game is fun due to the progression. Good work!
Thanks @th1z @frib @zyper @medow @bradur @grid96 @torcado @kossnocorp @verttixpertti @ipsl0re @matimat @chompdev @masternoob @tvorojok @bartalomew @jason-wilson @reivilibre @szieberth-adam @juanrod707 @caranha @burnedkirby for having tested the game and for your valuable comments.
Now that grading is finished I uploaded a new version of the game with sounds and music. It is available on itch.io.
had a blast with it again
