I think this game is wonderful. My approach was to just try to smash keys until I figured out which was which, and then remembered the order and then finally played a melody. Super satisfying to get right once I figured it out, and THEN all this kinda weird cool stuff happens on screen as I'm playing? It's a sort of strange exploration kinda game and I'm a big fan. I like how forgiving it is as you're trying to find the right keys. Some little sound glitches here and there or whatever but it's still quite fun. Great work.

I followed the same approach as the other guys. I smashed all buttons until I realized which buttons made the needed notes. Overall pretty fun to play arround with the sounds. The animations for the songs were also very well done.

I like the idea. If you're going to make a music focused game, it's super important that the sound is on-point, it's cool that you've built this in HTML, but I feel it means you've lost control over the audio and as a result it's popping and for me blasted out at full volume. Also, given you've put a keyboard map in the docs, I feel it could have just been part of the gameplay screen.

It's simple yet terribly effective and satisfying when you finally get a melody from your keyboard! Great job :D

Really cool idea and execution. Only problem is the sound in HTML is really weird so I would recommend downloading the game for sure.

ooooh my god, i agree with the others. this game is wonderful! it took me quite a while to understand what the controls do, but once i did i had a grin on my face while playing. i'm a huge sucker for music games! and this is super cute. the biggest part that i would improve on is maybe putting the screenshot of the keyboard into the game too, lol, instead of just on this page, so it's easier to look at. but i guess it doesn't matter, since you're redirecting from this site anyway. good job!! aah, this would be so fun as a real game. here's a star :star:

Interesting idea. It kept me fascinated long enough for me to finish the game. I liked the mishmash of cut scenes too. There were audio glitches for me, I played on Firefox, but they didn't detract from the game.

Good stuff :8ball:

I was pleasantly surprised once I figured out the controls! This is a solid concept. I wasn't able to figure out how to correct a mistake without restarting the game. It's really fun when you enter the correct melody to trigger the next 'thing'. I played on FF and the notes actually sounded fine for me. Great work!

Concur with the sentiments above. :)

Definitely recommend downloading the game and giving the readme a quick once-thru.

A fun little experience, even if playing notes on the keyboard isn't the most intuitive. Very cute, definitely got a smile out of me when the animations played for each song.

Maybe a toggle to show which key to press instead of which note to play? "V" instead of "D4" for example.

Fun game though, glad I took the time to understand it. :)

+1 :smile:

Pretty interesting. I don't know much about notes or music, but I managed to figure out the layout and the concept after pressing a bunch of buttons. It's pretty sweet and I can tell the vibe its going for, I like focus on making something educational and kid-friendly.

My fav game so far! This is a gem!

iskra 2023-01-13 16:38

I love music games. Your game is well made by which I had a nice time with it :smile:

shaunyeap 2023-01-14 08:24

Interesting, only if I can remember all the note key, really wanted to listen to the next rhythm. It would be great if the keyboard image is printed at UI, and also clear the queue when key in the wrong key.

Can I summon the @voidsay?

voidsay 2023-02-08 16:58

@tolmera Always, but delays must be expected. The subspace weather is terrible this time of year! Horrible traffic on the fourth dimensional highway.

On top of that meatpuppet decided to act up and insisted on using their hands to write a thesis instead of focusing on the important task of making games! Seriously what are you going to use this engineering degree for, when you can have a cushy job in Activision's department for lootboxes and surprise mechanics, programming monetization systems for the new War Craft 4 mobile port? Humans are weird.

But enough about me! I see you've returned from your hiatus and with a playable game to boot!

Bringing me back to the times I monkeyed over a piano. Took me a bit to remember how you people call the notes (it's slightly different to how I learned them) and some trial and error to understand how it maps to the keyboard. See mom and paps $30 well spent on 45 minute piano lessons. The basic knowledge I learned there truly came to fruition when playing this web based kids game- I'm sorry did the graphics just glitch? Ah well never mind. glitch.png You know the sound of the notes is also glitchy, but there is also an easy way to precash them, that I just so happened to forget :(

I kind of getting the hang of it. For some reason I think the first melodies were harder then the later ones, or is it my goopy brain recovering- Oh god no! eldiabolo.png

EL DIABOLO!!!

HIS EYES! HIS black black DEAD EYES! THEY SEE ALL! My sins are in the open.

My infinity replaced with mortality. Infinity is finite! The serpent Oroboros uncoiled and slurped up like a spaghetti noodle only fit to serve with its absence to the demonlord!

``` Pater noster qui es in cælis: sanctificétur nomen tuum; advéniat regnum tuum; fiat volúntas tua, sicut in cælo, et in terra. Panem nostrum cotidiánum da nobis hódie; et dimítte nobis débita nostra, sicut et nos dimíttimus debitóribus nostris; et ne nos indúcas in tentatiónem; sed líbera nos a malo diabolo. ``` It is too strong I must retreat! Here, take meatpuppet, I don't need it any more!
And thus Voidsay disappeared in his typical fashion. Leaving behind the human to round off the jokes with a more serious commentary. Cutesy games that hide a creepy core are always in a difficult spot. If you make them too high quality with a lengthy foreplay that is genuinely the game it claims to be, you bore the horror crowd that has no patience and disturb the casuals that didn't know what they signed up for. If you make it plenty clear and keep it short it spoils the effect of the surprise. Sadly there aren't enough friends that will encourage you to keep watching this show, because it gets really good after season 2 to make the genre a financial hit and game makers all around the world compromise with the (in my opinion) inferior model, like Pony Island and Doki Doki Literature Club.
Personally I would start burning copies on disks and leaving them behind. Half buried in the sand of the beach, jammed in between the planks of a park bench, prominently placed in the middle of a derelict home and carefully laid on the toilet paper roll holder of my local Burget King (the spookiest location). Idk how to monetize cursing the general populace like this, but any starving artist is welcome to copy my idea. I have a lot of nice ideas that can financially ruin you in the name of artistic vision.
Speaking of vision, looks like Voidsay is still panic hiding in the corner. I'll go console him. Everyone needs a friend. Everyone needs a passionate reviewer.
@voidsay, sir you are my favourite summon, you do not disappoint and as always I am left wondering what just happened.
Thank you ;)
