Pretty nice :D maybe add some wall jumping system? you'll be able to do more complex levels. Check and rate also my game :D https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/drunken-soviet

i suggest watching gamemaker tutorials

camcam-s5 2017-12-05 22:13

Hey! The LD is quite interesting. Maybe you can improve the gravity, because we are falling very slowly. And when you press a key against a wall, we are stuck. After all, it's a simple concept but it works, keep going in that direction! :) Good job !

mags 2017-12-05 22:14

Good job if it's a first. :)

rmc 2017-12-05 22:16

I like the use of the theme for a reverse score, we are so used with getting items to increase our scores specially coins, that it is fun to acting against our game instincts.

The controls needs improvements. The movements on the x axis is affecting the movement on the y when you are in freefall for example. The inputs and the collision system are in need of a general improvement to give the player responsiveness and fluid movements.

But hey, it's a good effort for your first game, it's much better than my first way back then :)

Good effort for your first game. I think you needed to spend more time making sure the central jumping mechanic was working properly. Given that it's a tricky platformer, the strangeness of the jumping really affects the whole game. Some noted issues: If I jump straight up and then try to move sideways, I immediately start falling, even if I was rising as I moved. I can't control the height of my jump by pressing the space bar for differing amounts of time - I have to use the aforementioned immediate-fall glitch to perform shorter jumps. If I start tapping left or right in the air, I can sort of "glide" long distances due to the above effect.

I hope that you continue making games. You did very well for a first attempt and your take on the theme was quite satisfying (only hampered by the controls). I'd be interested to see what you come up with in the future.

Get your basic mechanics down first. Once you've polished the platforming, you're free to start playing with more features. Right now, the character falls too slowly, gets stuck on walls, and overall feels pretty janky. Not a bad first attempt. Keep at it.

Man I am sorry but don't ask people to rate your game when you don't rate games of other people... I was brought here from the post from your feed and I won't rate after seeing this

Game is cute, reminds me a super meat boy, but it's really hard

tolmera 2017-12-09 16:53

I installed this game, but it want's odd network access tools. And the "Game Maker" logo it shows you when it starts, well... it's not from any recent version of Game Maker. This 'feels' very... uncomfortable to install. I can't say anything definitive, but it makes me uncomfortable

pyrotheflamy 2017-12-09 16:53

Overall rather OK. I wish you good luck in getting a score. Try making a post with some screenshots in it to grab more attention. Also note that this is your game page, so you call it Square Adventure, rather than Finally Done.

pyrotheflamy 2017-12-09 16:55

Also, please rate others' games as @x-budsterized-x said! The community gives back as it recieves, and other people need ratings too!

przekop 2017-12-09 16:55

As everyone before said, steering is painfull. Keep learning.

acr515 2017-12-09 17:09

Like everyone else has already said, please consider rating other people's games before you ask them to rate your own. Carry your weight.

illabom 2017-12-09 17:22

Interesting concept. Well done

come check out my game if you like https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/virus-detected

benburgh 2017-12-09 17:23

The jumping system feels really weird, and the controls are frustrating. It's great that you produced something though!

tomas-2d 2017-12-10 17:04

@pyrotheflamy I know but school eating my time :(

shinyogre 2017-12-10 17:42

Fix the jumping/gravity and this is a good start. If game development interests you then you will only grow from here.

vasco-rodrigues 2017-12-10 17:46

The jumping works well when you are already moving in one direction, but if I jump first and then move to one side, I immediately fall (but you already know this :P). Good work on creating many levels! Keep learning and making games!

ronanrory 2017-12-25 21:13

The jumping is interesting, you can only move in one direction while moving, or else you'll stop mid air (on the X axis) and, if you mash the A/D button, you can 'glide' around. And because of these controls, some of the level design is unfair.

I've also made a video of me beating the game with all 1000 points! (even if I exploit the glide bug, also sorry that it isn't on YouTube, I don't wanna make a social media account considering all the controversy these days)

For your first LD jam, it's a decent submission. Congrats for getting past 30 ratings! And, just an sorta unrelated question:I checked one of your blog posts and saw some text in a foreign language. What is it?

tomas-2d 2017-12-25 22:44

@ronanrorry Thanks you for good rating. And I dont really know that is possible to finish with 1000 points. And if you want you can upload it on Youtube PS: My language is Czech language :D

alph 2017-12-27 01:18

Nice job if this is just your first game! Feel free to check mine https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/i-just-hate-my-fans

giusex27 2017-12-27 22:57

So this was really nicely done for a first timer (and also considering it's a compo game!), the passion and dedication you had it's clearly evident. That said, you still need more practice with the programming, the jump was the main bug. I would suggest you to change to another coding program. Overall however I can only congratulate you for your effort!
