LD39 — Running out of Power

Lost In Spb by BloodJohn 2017-07-31T19:15:22Z

Love the art style, but I too found a few things confusing. It wasn't all that clear to me what was leading me to death. Russia is tough ya? I wasn't sure what the meter "WC" was for. And I found some dialogue to be confusing. Like the following text from the old lady: Strictly looking at you. What do you want, son? Probably could have been written: Strictly looking at you. "What do you want, son?" to make it more clear what is actually being said to the player from the NPC's.

Asteroids by MianaGames 2017-08-02T04:17:24Z

Very nice entry, simple nice design, fun and addicting. I spent a long time trying to make it to the end but a little on the hard end for me.

Love the story, characters and music as well! Great entry :)

Reactor Defence by Dene 2017-07-31T19:27:44Z

Solid entry and fits the theme very well. I really love the simplified take on the tower defense and digging the art style.

I did get to a point where the game sort of auto-played it self. I basically had two upgraded turrets in rows 2 and 3, and normal turrets in rows 1 and 4. And basically that took out all of the enemies for a good majority of the game before I was able to finish it.

Solar-Powered Guns by eva 2017-08-02T04:24:45Z

Nice entry, as others have said, movement and turning were a bit slow for me.

But I love the idea of being tethered to the power stations, but there probably should be more incentive to move away from them too. Maybe to get power ups, or they run out of power too ect. Otherwise you could just hang out at a power station all day and mow the bugs down. Great animation on the splatter too.

Flower by skippuku 2017-08-01T01:57:44Z

Loved every bit of this game. Loved the art style, the story, and music. I could tell that you did everything. I wasn't too sure how it fit with the theme....until the end. Nice story and experience you have here.

My only suggestion would be to add the running out of power on the robot an actual game play mechanic. I didn't test it out, but it seemed like the robot running out of power after helping the man was more to serve the purpose of the story you were telling. Which is totally fine! But to add to it, maybe running out of power is an actual mechanic. Such that the robot could have a finite amount of power. Whenever you walk around, it lowers it. This would add a bit of strategy in where players want to move the robot. You could balance it out so the perfect game leads the robot to running out of power after he helps the man. But the player could just walk around for a bit, letting the power run out without helping the man. That says something too!

Overall, I really enjoyed this. My favorite so far. Thanks for the experience :).

I'm on Fire by theStartlestare 2017-08-02T03:34:23Z

On the Windows build I am getting an error

"There should be 'Fire_Data' folder next to the executable"

Perhaps you need to bundle the assets or some other folder in your .exe or zip it up with Fire.exe

Power City by TheWGBbroz 2017-07-31T17:09:47Z

I really enjoyed this! I found myself playing it for a considerable amount of time. I felt like you followed the theme very well. It wasn't too clear to me at first, but after I realized that power diminishes depending on how many structures are hooked up to that power, and when too low, makes citizens unhappy :(. Great entry, very well done.

I will add that I wasn't too sure how money was generated, I assume from the factories but it seemed like money poured in even when I didn't have factories. And I wasn't too sure how to use solar panels.

Super Broken Circuit-Breaker Simulator 2017 by henriquelalves 2017-08-02T03:30:50Z

Nice entry and nice polish on the art style, I really dig it! I had a hard time understanding if what I was doing was correct. Was I suppose to do anything with the Hour glass icon? Because it seemed that even the most basic routes from electricity to the battery always gave me a new score of 0.

What might be nice is a little indicator line that runs from the electricity to the battery route to indicate that you have done it correctly.

Overall really nice and I enjoyed it :).

Baguette Hour by Xenation 2017-08-02T03:58:46Z

Interesting idea, I do love me some baguettes! I too was wondering what each bar was indicating. I suppose the one on the right was a walking meter, and the one on the left was health? What was the icon of the croissant (at least I think it is a croissant) for?

Controls are ok but I kept getting caught on tables and stuff, and wasn't really sure if I was hitting the barrels with my baguette. But it is just a baguette. I should be eating it instead!

Great entry!

FortScape by mamotromico 2017-08-02T03:45:44Z

Great first jam and fantastic game play mechanic! I thought you captured the running out of power idea quite well and I saw it two different ways. Each time a turret was fired, it ran out of power (meaning it had a cool down timer to charge back up) and when you exhausted all turrets and they are all cooling down, your tank has lost all of its power! This is a great idea and I love the animation on the legs that are moving he tank forward. It is a little centipede like. I love it!

I had some additional ideas where you could take this further. You could add upgrades for the turrets such as: allow them to shoot more, different bullet types and spray types, different cool downs ect.

And while it is necessary to be able to choose which turret you want to use, I found it cumbersome to use the mouse to switch turrets and often my focus shifted downwards and not at the planes. Maybe some keyboard keys could be better suited for this. '1' = first turret, '2' = second turret, ect.

Overall great idea, I love it!

Lumière by JoshLmao 2017-07-31T19:49:11Z

Nice entry and great job on the first jam. It was my first as well! I really liked the lighting and the sound effects. There were some structures that when hit with the flash light a certain way would illuminate the entire structure / rock formation. Not sure if that was intended but it looked cool and made it look like you were on an alien planet.

Although the flashlight is integral to the game and lighting up the areas, I felt the game was a little too dark. It was hard to see the detail you put in the background and I wasn't really sure what my character looked like, as the only bright objects are the backpacks.

Overall, great first jam!

Volt Tower (Machine Learning based game) by Ajay.2002 2017-07-31T16:42:46Z

Nice entry, concept and I liked how jolty and yellow cubes were. I could not figure out how to place the weapons on the map unfortunately. I tried clicking multiple times, click + dragging, ect. Nothing I did seemed to do anything. I was on the MAC build.

But overall, I understood what was going on and I thought the game followed the theme very well. A couple of things I would have added if time permitted would have been a count down timer to when the next wave was. And perhaps to open the weapons tab on game start. Not sure there would be a time you would want to close it, since time in placing weapons is very crucial, you as a player don't want to waste time opening the tab. Although I realize it takes a second, but every second counts!

Running out of aMAZEing power! by ffs2309 2017-08-02T04:07:40Z

Interesting idea and fits well with the theme of running out of power. But I found myself wondering what my goal was in the game. Was I just trying to find the exit, was there one? I often found myself wandering around back to the starting location. Maybe some variation in wall textures could help in detecting if you are in a new location or back at the begging.

Nice entry.

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Keep Blobby Alive by slunkey 2018-04-23T23:39:34Z

@crown-games Might be a Godot thing. Were you using the Windows or Mac version?

Keep Blobby Alive by slunkey 2018-04-28T16:28:10Z

@radmccool Haha, we actually had ideas of this floating around. Maybe if we keep working on this in the future.

Simon Shoots by Crown Games 2018-04-24T03:52:46Z

Interesting idea! At first I thought the lighted areas meant something, like I couldn't roll over them and I kept thinking I was getting "stuck" in them. But really it was just the mouse was in the same location as the tank. After I realized that I got the hang of it. I have never played Simon Says so I can't really say this recreates it but I definitely got the idea of anticipating the walls and having to shoot them down. I will have to look up Simon Says now!

Rythm is Lava by egordorichev 2018-04-25T19:14:25Z

Wow, highly polished game! Great entry into the theme. I just found myself not really caring about the lava tiles all that much, to me it was just one too many things to think about while trying to control another character.

FetchQuest by radmccool 2018-04-24T06:10:26Z

Interesting idea! That is one dedicated cat lover. I didn't know if there was going to be an actual end to it, so I stopped playing after I saw the kitty litter twice. I am more of a dog person hehe. Overall great addition to the theme.

Slide or Die by Zeriver 2018-04-25T01:05:21Z

That was quite fun and a great addition to the theme. I liked how "lawnmower man" it looked, like I'm in some kind of cyber world. I was a bit confused on how to regain the slow motion meter but I think I had to reach a certain height? Very original idea, great job!

Roulette Knight by Finlal 2018-04-24T06:12:50Z

Oh man, I so wanted to try this, but the file is not available. Dropbox 404.

golf and dungeons by apxllon 2018-04-24T05:42:27Z

Ah, I really liked this! I always have an affinity for golf based games so this was a real treat. I played a little bit of your other golf game and you have really leveled up your golf game. I like being able to charge up the ball to make it a weapon, adds to the theme of making this a golfing dungeon game with fighting. It would be cool to see a trajectory line perhaps? It was hard for me to tell where I was actually aiming the ball. Overall great entry!

The Call of Cthulhu - Puzzle Edition by bombjack 2018-04-24T06:26:17Z

This is a super neat idea and fits in greatly with the theme. You could totally take this and make some kind of iPad learning / reading app for children, making reading interactive and easier for kids to get into. Superb idea. Iä! Iä! Cthulhu fhtagn!

Skeletons and Fireballs by snarf2000 2018-04-24T06:32:25Z

Interesting idea! I like the puzzle element of trying to figure out where to place the skeletons to get them lit. Although, I didn't understand why if I didn't immediately make a move or continuously keep making moves that the game would restart. I would like to have time to think before moving. But perhaps that is what the incompatible genres are? Semi turned based real time puzzle solving! Great entry and great effort for 3 hours of work. Good job!

Agent Patissier by sndr 2018-04-24T05:00:12Z

I seconded the Hotline Miami vibe. Love the art, sound, music, and feel of the game. Although I found it to be a bit too easy. I actually didn't do much cooking either, I was able to just about out eyesight everyone. In the last room though, I was being tailed, then I dropped some food and it looked like the enemy got distracted, ate food, then I exited and got the end screen Haha. I also noticed that on my first playthrough, I had used up all my ingredients to make something (wasn't sure what though), and then I got caught. But I was placed back in the same room with all my ingredients gone and I couldn't make anymore stuff. Also, I wasn't too encouraged to make anything as I didn't know what combinations to use, most of the ones I tried didn't make anything. That is when I just stayed out of everyones eye sight to finish the game.

Tetrario by mipelius 2018-04-23T22:56:56Z

This is very clever, fits the theme very well and this is a great entry.

Bearly Fishing by Psychedelia 2018-04-24T06:02:05Z

Haha this was great. I suppose the incompatible genres were more on the thematic than the game play. Love the art, music, the bear puns. This is a great entry. It wasn't clear to me on the first play through that the fish earned was what was allowing me to buy more bears.

Ultimate Hero Simulator by antvelm 2018-04-25T19:29:20Z

Haha, this is such a great idea. I love the combining of platformer with pet simulator. Similar to what my team had done. Great concept, lovely graphics and sound. I don't know if it was the browsers, but I would move forward, and left go of the key but the player would keep moving forward. Stuff like that made it hard to control. Overall great addition to the theme. Great job!

Card 'Em Up by stderr 2018-04-24T05:18:17Z

This is such a great idea and love games made in the Love Engine. They boil down to the game play and I think this is great and really fits in nicely with the theme. A little fast for me but I was able to figure out what to do. Fantastic entry!

LudumDress-Up by SharkDev 2018-04-24T05:53:51Z

At first I didn't understand what the incompatible genres were, until I searched for the secret. Then I understood. Great effort!

BIRKANOID by MateCziner 2018-04-25T19:19:58Z

Wow, great entry to the theme. Love the graphics and sound. I found it very enjoyable and the controls were very intuitive, I like simple games like this but have depth and complexity. I just found it hard to understand why I would become defeated. But overall, great game!

The Secret Ingredient is Love by Miqui Gaud 2018-04-23T22:38:47Z

Can see the incompatible themes is cute cuddly music + art and the horror + grotesque. I dig it! My first game played and rated this jam and it is definitely off to a great start haha. As others have noted, I was confused about controls at first, the slicing was not responsive at first until I understood what was going on.

Reverse by MrJake7X 2018-04-24T05:11:02Z

Love the art style! I did get stuck at a point and didn't know where to continue after I burned down the fence. I liked there was a visual clue for the blue guy when pressing 'f', but it wasn't to apparent what I could do with that power. At first I thought it was used to jump over the first obstacle (but I think I was using a glitch). I didn't even know the fire guy could use 'f' because when I pressed it for him, there was no visual clue. After awhile I figured out he could burn things. Great entry!

Fallen Leaves by LemonBalmGames 2018-04-25T00:57:34Z

Oh man, I kept playing this until I could get that heart and bring it back. And by golly I did. I might have the speed running record? Really enjoyed everything about this, the style, art, music, the dialogue. Bill, what a mean guy. Great entry!

Flippy: The Destroyer of Worlds by henrycgs 2018-04-24T05:32:52Z

Love the idea, great execution and the theme is really represented here. I think the gameplay moved a little too slow for me. I found myself getting a bunch of direction cards that were not too useful for me so some rounds I would painstakingly only move one card or so at a time. I like that it was random but I also found some situations where I started a new game with three enemies and proceeded to get rekt. But then the next round I spawned with no enemies at all! Overall I found this idea very interesting and a great addition to this theme. Great job!
