giovannibarrottu 2018-04-24 08:56

The art style is nice, but the puzzles are pretty simple, you just have to find the one item that's different in the area.

sandovictor17 2018-04-24 08:57

it looks amazing! Nice job!!!

if u wanna check our game:

thibautpierron 2018-04-24 09:18

The concept could have been interesting, but islands are too small for the search and platform is too easy. GG for the soul particle effect, it looks really great

togis 2018-04-24 09:44

What an atmospheric piece!

The positive: * Extremely beautiful * Challenging but in a way where I know it's my fault for FALLING FOR THE 100th TIME ON THAT *%!¨% LEDGE! :) * Fitting music

The negative: * No mention of the blink in game? I didn't read the controls section first I was stuck at the very begining. With blink, life is better.

Good work!

detectivelosos 2018-04-24 09:46

This game looks neat, rhymes and riddles are pretty interesting and coupled with a soundtrack they place you right in the mood for some meditative experience. But I have a couple of problems with gameplay. Firstly, the platforming itself is quite unforgiving. It's hard to judge your positioning in first person especially with such low field of view and that platform placement requires you to perform pretty accurate jumps. And I fell down time after time. Then I figured out that you dont have to speak to the spirits at all to proceed - it became a little easier to make attempts.

And then comes the problem which is personal to me. There are too many controls and I dont have a gamer keyboard. So when I press Shift+W I cant press Space at the same time. It wasnt so much of an issue until I came upon the gap that could only be passed by sprint-jumping. I completely understand that thats my personal issue and that wont affect most of the people, but the point is, why do you even have a slow walk mode in game? Why dont just have sprint at all times?

Really wish I could complete this game. In looks and sounds nice. And that free assets packs you mentioned seem really helpful. You might consider adding a proper links for them on this page so people interested in free lowpoly assets could go straight to them.

lemonbalmgames 2018-04-24 10:02

@Togis Good catch. I'll add the asset store links as soon as I'm back at my PC. Thank you so much for your kind comment!

@detectiveLosos Tell you what, while I do want to keep sprint in the game because it feels more 'standard' or 'natural' and allows for the contrast between slow meditative movement and a more rapid, platforming kind, I'll make a build just for you where walk movement speed = sprint movement speed so you can complete the game. I'll post it in this comment section and tag you as soon as I'm back at my PC. Thank you so much for your comment.

detectivelosos 2018-04-24 10:45

No problem :) Didn't really expect such a hustle. That you will make a separate build just for one person. But I surely will try it again and complete your game this time.

lemonbalmgames 2018-04-24 11:21

@detectiveLosos https://my.pcloud.com/publink/show?code=XZP1BY7ZRClWpGSi8mFxVkBHm0GRxbwChbBk Here's the version of my game with modified walk speed value. I hope you'll be able to finish it now :)

I also took some time to play your game and I enjoyed it thoroughly. I left you a rating and a mini-review in the comments.

thevash 2018-04-24 14:23

nice setup and mood!

bitten-toast-games 2018-04-24 14:41

I really love the art style so had to download, unfortunately it's not really my style of game. I found the puzzles to be really obvious but overall I really loved the art and audio.

If you have a sec to spare and want to check out our game would really appreciate it :) https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/shipwrecked-on-robot-island

zeriver 2018-04-24 14:50

Very good looking game, i like the minimalistic, low-poly look and the effective use of lightning. The gameplay is ok although the platforming is really hard, you have to try multiple times to proceed which makes talking to spirits a little annoying. Also you can get yourself stuck in object if you dash into it. But the concept itself is pretty cool and solving riddles is a neat idea for 3d platforming game mixed with item hunting.

annie-owl 2018-04-24 18:48

Really atmospheric game. Good job. I've actually enjoyed jumping around this landscapes and didn't have much problems with platforming. It would have been nice if the environment was filled with some random junk, so you actually have to solve the riddle, and don't just aimlessly run towards the first item that's not a part of the environment.

lemonbalmgames 2018-04-24 19:05

@annie-owl Really good point. It's an obvious solution that I failed to come up with. "Pixel hunting in 3d space" wasn't meant to be a very prominent part of the game because it's a silly mechanic, but there should've been like 2 more items per island close to what the riddle was asking for (with Mr. B no doubt mocking you for choosing one of them - because that's just who he is). Thank you so much for your feedback! I'm glad you got some enjoyment out of my little creation.

mmyhre 2018-04-24 22:33

Really cool artwork! Even with minor bugs, it was an enjoyable experience

gertjohnny 2018-04-24 22:50

I like the art style, especially the colors, though the footstep sfx felt really out of place.

drell 2018-04-24 22:53

Really enjoyed the aesthetic of it all(reminded me of The Beginners Guide). The green text at the start was a little hard to read with the scenery. I wouldn't require a dash on the first jump part just to let the player get used to controls (I did like the death message tho haha). I would make the text clear when the player is a certain distance away from the source (or give it a timer) cause having a blur of text makes it unreadable :( Also better checkpoints pls! Good job overall :D

iloveyourface 2018-04-25 00:15

I love 3D platformers! Like others have said, the platforms are really unforgiving, blink needs a cool down indicator or just be available again instantly, I think it would help if the character was slightly more floaty too. Took a few restarts to get the heart and couldn't make my way back. But ay, it was nice.

mister-kweh 2018-04-25 00:52

Great mood for this game. I enjoyed it. Scavenger hunt vibe. Definitely kept dying because I can't jump very well. Lol. Great background music. Simple, yet it fit the overall mood of the game really well! Great job! You can play ours too if you're interested! If not, no biggie :D keep making games!! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/flight-deck

slunkey 2018-04-25 00:57

Oh man, I kept playing this until I could get that heart and bring it back. And by golly I did. I might have the speed running record? Really enjoyed everything about this, the style, art, music, the dialogue. Bill, what a mean guy. Great entry!

rodrigo-denubila 2018-04-25 03:32

This is very beautifull. Even using assets, it was a good job putting everything together.

I don't thing the genres you choose are so incompatible, but this don't make the game less enjoyable.

Good job!

Please, take a look at my game too: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/confessional

urban-logic-games 2018-04-25 08:30

Very nice! Love the overall aesthetic and what you're suggesting about the world(s) through the environment and what the creatures say. I thought the platforming was actually pretty forgiving (I'm pretty terrible at 3D platforming), though being kicked back to the very beginning on failure might be a little harsh... Nice work!

100th-coin 2018-04-25 13:56

The riddles were incredibly tough. It's a good thing there was just a simple search afterwards. The last one was a bit harder, because well... looking for nothing. This was a lot of fun, and congrats on your first jam.

narudgi 2018-04-25 14:25

Yay ! I've managed to use the E button to get to certains plateform !... I will be honest I'm not a fan of your concept (plateform/hidden things) I didn't find it really fun but a least it helped mood/story, your music was interesting for the mood but it feels too repetitive (even more if we die a lot after understand we can use E), but the story was interesting with the mood I liked it, nice work anyway !

simon-rahnasto 2018-04-25 21:40

I enjoyed the atmosphere a lot, there was a nice eerie mood and the audio was perfect. My favorite part was the platforming, it was really solid and I would love to see that incorporated into a different game, like a parkour game.I appreciate that I didn't really have to solve the riddles as I am terribad at it.

Overall great entry!

hpmnk 2018-04-26 00:18

The overall mood is really nice, i like the oniric feeling. Controls are good too, and i like the jump blink ability. The level design remind of XC maps in counter strike source ^^

szabe 2018-04-26 12:36

I can't say this was very interesting. It looked nice, but seeing that more than half the assets are not even made by you, I can't really give your props for that. The music was fitting and the lighting was beautiful though. I was unable to get past the second island, the floating small islands were so far away, I tried like three times, but never even got close. The blink platforming was an interesting aspect of the game, but I feel like the hidden object part was executed incredibly poorly. You don't have to search for things, basically the object that isn't a tree is the one you have to click on. At least you should have added a few more options. All in all, I feel like this worked great as a sort of atmospheric walking sim-esque game. A bit more narrative would have been nice too.

lemonbalmgames 2018-04-26 12:45

@szabe Sounds fair. I opted out of the graphics category due to the use of free assets. I feel like I managed to contribute a bit to the look of the game with lightning/post-processing/particle effects etc. but still, I didn't want to be judged on that aspect, out of respect for people who did everything by themselves.

In the planning phase, I wanted to tackle the 'hidden object' part in a different way buy my lack of experience caused me to reevaluate and settle for 'pixel hunting in 3d space' instead. Thank you for the feedback! I'm sure my next game jam creation will be much better because of it.

yahialds 2018-04-26 13:12

Loved the art and mood. I would have liked some more puzzles. Nice use of the riddles. Great potential for a narrative game.

greg-lord 2018-04-26 14:41

Strong atmosphere and tone, and the surreal visuals and music matched the concept well. I recognized the Unity first-person controller, which works well and is solid in its performance, but I would recommend turning off the footstep noises, which I thought distract from the softer tone of the game. If you do want them there, I might at least make them quieter.

I was able to complete the game, but I would perhaps make the platforming jumps just *slightly* less difficult, to make the game finishable by more people. I missed the Sprint feature the first time through, and died a couple of times trying to blink with just the standard move speed. Perhaps a reminder with an on-screen visual as people approach the harder jumps?

Overall, a good concept and a great atmosphere. I'll go with the other reviewer's word, "oneiric" as well! =)

torak-whiteleopard 2018-04-26 17:03

A really nice atmosphere and a gorgeous looking game. I liked trying to figure out the puzzles before finding the items (because finding the items was quite obvious since they stood out), and I really like exploring the world since it looked great. Perhaps I would say that the game is quite unforgiving, as some of the jumps felt quite hard to judge - maybe checkpoints would have been nice after each spirit. I found it a little weird how you could skip the riddles entirely and just pick up the objects - it made re-runs much much easier but might not have exactly made sense.

lemonbalmgames 2018-04-26 17:22

@greg-lord I've invested (or rather wasted) a bunch of time at the beginning of the jam trying to make my own FPS controller but I settled for the standard one due to time pressure. I totally agree about the footsteps. I don't think I can make a new sound effect for it, but I'm pretty sure removing the current one or turning it down isn't against the LD rules so I might to that this evening. As this was my first game I had trouble nailing the difficulty, but it should've been lower especially because I failed to implement a checkpoint system. Thank you so much for your comment!

@torak-whiteleopard I agree with your assessment. The logic of the game is kinda wonky but it has one advantage that you mentioned - it makes dying a lot less tedious than it would've been otherwise. I appreciate the time you decided to invest in my little creation:)

korath 2018-04-26 18:24

Really nice athmosphere. I would like to see a kind of story unfolding. Then this could be really interesting. Has potential for a real game. Objects weren't taht hidden, and some false objects "could" be implemented.

solnak 2018-04-26 21:08

The colors are nicely picked and the control-feel is great !

durgan 2018-04-27 00:57

Years of playing Guild Wars 2 has prepared me for this game! The controls feel very fluid. While just exploring was amazing, solving the puzzles to proceed to the next area was fun too. The platforming was well done.Great job, hope to see something come of it.

julink 2018-04-27 14:52

It's very cool to play but I don't understand the two themes mixed...

The mood is pretty cool and i loved the music (even if it's really repetitive).

I don't know if it's normal but, I didn't succeed to grab the heart at the end.

And, when I moved the camera, it was a little bit hurting for my eyes. I think you can remove this by adding a little point in the center of the screen, like in Mirror's Edge (like in my picture, I added a little point in the center).

And, i had a bug with the text... :/ bug.png

It's a really good game with a really good mood!

Check out our game if you are interested: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/date-fighter

lemonbalmgames 2018-04-27 16:20

@julink Thank you so much for playing the game! There are a few obvious things that would've improved the game but I failed to implement them because I run out of time. You mentioned some of them like the crosshair. The dialogue bug happens when you exit the invisible trigger collider before the sentence is typed out in its entirety. It was the first time I used any kind of dialogue system and I wasn't able to fix that bug.

Again, thank you so much for playing the game, thank you for the feedback and I'm glad that you enjoyed parts of it. I'll definitely take a look at your game:)

lemonbalmgames 2018-04-27 19:01

@Julink BTW I just fixed that dialogue bug:)

philstrahl 2018-04-28 00:04

Hey @LemonBalmGames! Finally got around to playing your game (which is also in a video while I'll link as soon as it goes live).

First: I loved the overall look and appearance of the game, very dream-like and soothing and Stanley looked like something I'd have expected in Black Mesa's test chamber :)

The biggest problems I had was with the jumping, though, and had to give up after finding the first hidden object as I just couldn't make it to the second floating island. Later I realized that probably the "blink forward" mechanic was exactly meant to overcome that challenge, so I'd put a reminder on the screen when the player falls to their death. Or at the very least have some sort of checkpoint before the jumping.

I found the idea with the riddles somewhat unexpected but quite interesting at first--until I realized it just meant to find the one object hidden in rather plain sight. So while the riddles definitely give the game some flavor, I don't think they are necessary. The troubling thing with riddles is that either you get them right away you don't (without cheating).

Nevertheless: Very good and very polished entry, great atmosphere and visuals, I just didn't make it past the first island.

lemonbalmgames 2018-04-28 08:38

@philstrahl Thank you so much for playing my game! Additional props scattered around every island should've been in the game. There's a bunch of very small features that I wish I had enough time to finish but ultimately I'm glad I managed to complete a game during my first jam.

When it comes to the difficulty of the 3d platforming, I've got a bunch of mixed messages but I think that it's in fact too high, especially for a story-driven experience.

In any case, I'm glad you liked parts of the game. Thanks to you - and other kind LD participants - I now know what I did right and I know what I need to work on for the next jam.

paul-avallone 2018-04-28 17:18

I love the art in the game. It's really atmospheric. Only bug I had was when I was blinking when the first orb was talking the first half of his text got scrambled like alphabet soup. I wish the blinking had some sort of indicator to where you are going. The platforming is very hard especially on world 2. I enjoyed the experience anyway. Good job.

philstrahl 2018-04-28 20:20

Here's my sad attempt at platforming and getting quite annoyed by it ;) Sorry! https://youtu.be/UoxXOgp40t0

lemonbalmgames 2018-04-28 20:31

@philstrahl That's totally ok:) Thanks again for playing the game!

yozamu 2018-04-28 20:44

It felt really refreshing. The graphics and audio really fit well together and it results in a good mood. I'm not a native english speaker myself so I'm not sure I got quite everything but at least I knew the last answer! :D

cristiano-m-garcia 2018-04-29 02:27

I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.

I hope you continue with the project.

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/witchs-escape

hizrok 2018-04-29 12:47

Sometimes I got a little text bug but overall pretty nice game ... If story would be a category you would get 5 stars  https://imgur.com/a/P2KrmVz

rebecca-kremer 2018-04-29 17:05

Very excellent first game! I played the original jam entry which was a bit difficult which honestly made it a bit more exciting for me. I don't mind starting over and the challenge was welcome. Pinky finger hurts a bit tho hehe. Overall lovely mood and an interesting story premise.

caterein 2018-04-29 17:22

Nice atmospheric game, I really enjoyed the vibe. Sadly I wasn't able to complete it, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I appreciate that you released updated versions with bug fixes, as well. Good job!

robinhoodpt 2018-04-29 21:29

Congratulations on your first game jam creation! I hope I see you in future game jams again!

Onto the feedback:

**Overall** Overall congratulations on your first entry, especially cause u did all yourself. While the game is really simple, it works well together, but there are alot of stuff u can do better(I know that in a jam what 1 person can do is limited), but that's what feedback is for.

**Fun** It has some nice funny parts in it with the dialogues of the npc's.

**Innovation** I can't really give feedback on this one cause what u did isn't something really innovative. But it's something that already exists and u did your best to make something good out of it by yourself!

**Theme** U tried to mix hide and seek with platformer. It was ok. It's not something really incompatible in my eyes. Nice try though!

**Graphics**

Graphics felt good together. There wasn't something weird at all. The only thing that fell off was the text color. It could be hard to read from time to time. Try to add a box behind it.

**Audio** Gives off a good ambience. Some of the sound effects where a bit out of the theme.

**Gameplay** The movement feels good, only the jumping is a bit weird. Can't really feel where I'm landing.

Nonetheless, I enjoyed the couple of minutes I played the game for, and we understand the hard work needed to create something like this! 😊 Our team also worked hard to create a game for the jam. You can check it out [here](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/wizsnooks)! 🐳

secretpocketcat 2018-05-01 09:58

Nice use of the assets - the worlds is quite pretty and it was a good call to remoe the the footstep SFX. The final character has got some nice dialogue.

Suggestions/nitpicks: * the movement feels good except when stopping after running for a while - then it moves in that direction and then stops abruptly without any lerping or anything so I either just worked my way though without stopping at all (which felt great) or just tapped the keys to nudge myself in the right direction * would have liked the option to pick up some other (random) stuff which would make me actually try to remember and think about the riddle rather than just look for whatever I could find

wdebowicz 2018-05-01 18:59

The mood is great, the riddles are interesting. There is something in the game, that you really want to finish it :-)

puppetmaster 2018-05-01 21:15

Great atmosphere, I really enjoyed jumping around in this pink world. The only thing that doesn't fit is when you fall off a platform, you don't get put back in the last position. Still, it's a great game.

lautregars 2018-05-01 21:41

end.PNG

Phew ! Attempted to speedrun it (yeah after like 11 deaths I remembered that I could dash so I never stopped pressing the W button since) and , well, it's a very nice jam game !

Efficient graphs, very nice particles, some backstory, riddles, and damn faith jumps everywhere !

Everything was pretty minimalistic, but it worked, you had a game with a start, an end, a story, so i guess it's mission accomplished ! (plus I liked Bill's level theme).

I played Rp first, reading attentively all the riddles, before seeing that I could rush the props to liberate the cloud dudes before they could even say a word.

But, I mean, I liked it alot ! So, nice game ! Especially for a first jam !

belga54 2018-05-03 11:51

I liked the game and the mood was great especially the music. Was a little bit difficult but I liked this challenge so I went through and died so many times. It was a good game!

sfey 2018-05-06 10:38

Really fun game, tried speedrunning but best I was able to do was 1.30, guess there are some more tricks I didn't manage to pull off :P

Great job! :)

smokesomefrogs 2018-05-06 12:49

Tried to speedrun it and failed a lot :'D https://youtu.be/uB5uhswoCbU

Neat little game, the jumping doesn't feel right yet but the look was really really beautiful and I liked the Level Design a lot - also a very good idea to include story since it always is a nice addition to the gameplay. The music was okay but I didn't like the standard sounds of jumping etc. overall a really nice game for a Ludum Dare Game, nice atmosphere! Played the 1.3 version.

lemonbalmgames 2018-05-06 13:53

@smokesomefrogs Really good attempt! The second run was around 1:30 which is pretty great. I'm really happy that you made the attempt and that you enjoyed the game!

geckoo1337 2018-05-06 14:20

Hello. Your game has litterally fascinated me because its aesthetic reminds me an old entry which I did for the 34th LudumDare session a few years ago. Also the gameplay reminds me another entry which I did for the 36th LudumDare. Take a look at the links below. It's really disturbing. I like your project which has smooth controls and a neat aesthetic. Maybe you could increase difficulty adding some obstacles. However it's a really good entry. Well done ++

http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-36/?action=preview&uid=35835

lemonbalmgames 2018-05-06 14:25

@geckoo1337 Wow, I can definitely see the similarities. I guess low poly graphics can seem a bit samey sometimes + 'great minds think alike' :)? Still, I agree that it is a tiny bit disturbing. Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed the game and thanks for the feedback!

fashionbatman 2018-05-07 16:24

Not the most challenging plat-former, but a pretty cool concept. I think this game did especially well in the mood category. Great job!

anubhav-kashyap 2018-05-14 09:37

Hey, I was rating those people's games and unfortunately yours is a Windows build and I have a Mac. It'd be great if you could upload a WebGL or Mac build. But I gotta say, game looks great compared to most other people's games.

miroky 2018-05-15 00:24

Really great graphics, nice simple history and the atmosphere that you've got with the game... It's fantastic!

2018-05-16 18:22

Nice graphics, interesting game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 41 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUzNw0b6qtc
