LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Hover Burner by TimBeaudet 2017-12-10T15:50:09Z

So, interesting racing game you have there, nothing really new beside the velocity changes. Mechanic wise, steering and moving feels good, didn't really use the space bar alot, as it felt a bit desnecessary. Game design wise, some things should have been teached or explained better in-game. Like I didn't understood where I could get more fuel till one of the bots got into the pitstop, as it just looks like a normal road, when you're in the pitstop while tanking you should add some kind of indicator to say that when you're done you can click a arrow or something, cause that was something I dind't understood immediately either. More velocity = less fuel is something I only understood as I read the description after playing, as it didn't feel like that the cause of having more/less fuel made the hover go faster/slower. The spacebar, dunno what it really did beside using fuel and making the other hovers go slower. Art wise is alright, nothing really special, but not bad either. Music wise was alright, sfx could have been set a bit less loud. UI way, you should have added some kind of pause menu into the game instead of directly going back to main menu when clicking the esc key.

I enjoyed the couple of minutes I played the game for, and I understand the hard work needed to create something like this!. Our team also worked hard to create a game for the jam. You can check it out [here](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/jazzy-beats)! :whale:

[Web] A Lot of Dead Space by Linver 2017-12-08T19:20:18Z

Hey there, interesting idea you got there. Quite interesting approach to do puzzles. Art is top-notch. Maybe an idea for the future is to use vector images instead of raster images, so that you can change the size without losing quality. But dunno how it's possible in an engine though. Even though u guys didn't make the sound, you did an amazing job to find ones that made the mood of the game feel even better! There are still some bugs(I just lost many buttons when something upgraded and can't get them back)!

K-Tar: A Musical Odyssey by Eduardo_Pras 2017-12-05T20:20:25Z

The overall Mood and combination of visuals and audio is quite good. Gameplay wise, it's rather simple, and it felt a bit that you forced the theme in it. Movement is smooth, beside changing directions has some problems sometimes. Also am unable to rotate totally. Sometimes I need to rotate totally back to get another key.

Nonetheless, I enjoyed the couple of minutes I played the game for, and we understand the hard work needed to create something like this! Our team also worked hard to create a game for the jam. You can check it out [here](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/jazzy-beats)! :whale:

Mugger's Delight by xoidberg 2017-12-05T15:16:46Z

It's really Delightful to play(pun intended). Smooth movement and easy mechanic. The ramp-up difficulty is just good enough so that it won't get boring, or that it gets too difficult to fast. The text can be hard to read. It's not that easy to notice how many money you have (maybe make it bigger?). Luckily I did read the description of the game before playing, but if someone wouldn't they wouldn't understand what the criteria is to get bodyguards, as it's not intuitively said to the player. For the next Ludum Dare, I suggest you take a look a bit at UI of other games to see how they explain the controls in a easy way.

I really enjoyed the couple of minutes I played the game for, and we understand the hard work needed to create something like this, especially doing everything by yourself in such a short time-span. :) Our team also worked hard to create a game for the jam. Dwarven Dungeon Defense by TolMera 2017-12-09T19:00:37Z

Amazing music indeed, was a pleasure to listen to while playing the game! The sfx of breaking boxes(or smthing) was a bit too loud in my opinion. But beside that I really liked it. Maybe add a better feedback sound when hitting the enemy. For the mechanics itself it's rather confusing. I didn't got what the game was about for almost 10 minutes of playing. I was just randomly attacking block to break them, found a turret and died immediately. The monsters spawn too slow, it took almost two minutes to see my first monster in a playthrough. Fightning monsters and blocks could be done better by adding some kind of indicator that indicates how much health/hits are left to kill/break it. The game is ok with the theme, more monsters = worse. UI wise it could be done a bit better. Health bar above the player instead of below. Numbers of how much health a monster does, some kind of indicator that says I got damaged(For example when I was near the turret I didn't know I got damaged). Add some kind of main menu, make some kind of easy beginners that explains the game instead of a wall of text. If you're going with a wall of text, atleast make the letter bigger, and the background a bit darker.

Nonetheless, I enjoyed the couple of minutes I played the game for, and I understand the hard work needed to create something like this!. Our team also worked hard to create a game for the jam. You can check it out [here](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/jazzy-beats)! :whale:

Technologis by TheFunAttic 2017-12-10T14:58:31Z

Really good jam entry and a nice idea. Onto the feedback: The game itself is fun, it even has a small tutorial to easily explain how the game works, the only thing I would change is to separate the switch from the grap/release part as in the beginning it could be misunderstood between switching from release/grab instead of switching the grabber, I only got it after switching it. Another thing is add the different kind of stages for rotten fruit so that a person knows what is considered rotten in your game(I see that it rots the one you have, but it takes too long and a player would have already started the game). Your objective with a game is to capture a player directly from the start, that's something that you do well, but in the first round it takes over a minute for the next wave of fruits to spawn. That's enough time for someone to exit the game and go play something else. Beside that you let players move with A and D, but W and S don't work for grabbing and switching. (Small bug probably) Instead of exiting directly with esc add a small prompt asking to exit, just in case someone clicks on it accidentally. Beside these, the art and the music are really good, really liked the aeasthetics and the mood created, well done!

Computer-Man RPG by Wolfo 2017-12-09T00:26:00Z

Man, amazing, I really liked it alot. It's an interesting take on the theme and on the puzzle genre. Art style is really interesting, but can be irritating to understand the symbols sometimes. I didn't really understand at the beginning how to kill an enemy, it's not understandable in your description of the game, neither really in the tutorial. Would be interesting to understand what the order of the enemies attacking are. Other thing that I didn't understand in the beginning is that enemies attack with the symbol you attack with at the beignning. After I understood this the game mechanics actually are rather simple and quite enjoable for people who like these kind of puzzles. Maybe add some more training mobs in the beginning just so that people can understand it.

Grim Reaper by Lamossus 2017-12-09T12:20:49Z

Hey there! A nice game you have here, what I suggest you to do is to first of all, take some screenshots of the game and add them to your game page here on LDJam and on itch.io, here u can just do it clicking the upload button below the text box, on ithc I'm not sure, but it should be easy too.

Now onto the game itself: It's simple, works rather well, in terms of movement I would suggest lowering the jump height, as it's too fast too high that it's really(like really) hard to jump and attack at the same time the target. In terms of feedback I really suggest you to add more feedback to the attacks as I don't understand when I'm attacking an enemy, how many times I need to attack him, or what he's going to do. I felt like it sometimes just wouldn't get killed but rather take my health anyway. Upgrade system is alright, works like intended. Only question I have is the theme, I really didn't get the "more is worse" feeling when playing, but I could have missed something obvious. Graphics wise it's alright, monsters look nice, just as the character. The ui could be done a bit better though.

Free to Play by Hooraygil 2017-12-05T15:48:15Z

Ahah. Amazing use of the theme idea and about the current problems with micro-transactions and lootboxes. While the idea is really nice the game has a couple of problems. Atleast on webgl the fonts are really small, so it's hard to read. The physics of the game sometimes let me jump through platforms, which I suppose is not to happen. The contrast between the platforms and the background is low, so it's a bit hard to see the platforms. Maybe add shadows.

Crosstalk by shinyogre 2017-12-10T16:20:42Z

Really nice! In the beginning I wasn't really thinking much, but it's an amazing idea and explanation to experience it and show it visually in a easy way. Some things to make it a better experience. Some kind of menu with access to a small explanation, or a small tutorial on it. Just so that people get into the feeling you want to transmit. Even if it's more an experience, I think if you try to gamify it a bit more, it could be easier to understand and even explain. With things like, objectives, levels, time, etc... Small idea: Make the background have more/less noise depending on the volume of the noise, this way you can easily play it even without headphones. Beside that was an interesting experience, especially for me as an audio guy.

Lil' Justin's Fame Escape by spierek 2017-12-06T20:49:17Z

Justin Famous huh, no one would've expected that xD. To review the game: The game is mechanically good, movement and abiliteis feels great, the only thing I would point is that there are too few ways to get away from fans, even if you have one, the slow you get with 1 fans is the same as having mutliple fans, it could be better if it was like a multiplier. More fans = more slow, till a max ofc.Beside that the game is too slow in getting atleast a bit difficult. Only after being at 9 concerts given was the first time I even got catched by a fan. The music that started playing while you got closer to the place is ok-ish, didn't really feel right in the game and was too repetitive, maybe could have added some different ones. The sound effects/voice acting was rather well done and really funny to listen to.

Don't get drunk by tulipekoni 2017-12-10T15:22:15Z

Ahahahah, amazing. Was really enjoyable to play it. Still a couple of feedback points: Mechanical wise it's ok, jumps work well, rolling is useless(like 90% of the time), you should have added some kind of barrier where you would need to roll under to get through. Some ideas if you want to continue to develop a bit on the game: try to add more depth to it, with things like, highscores, number of beers, time, etc... Maybe let the player move faster/slower, and that you would only die if you get out of the screen. UI wise, it works for what you wanted, could have used a better font(check textmesh pro in unity it's free), and maybe add a small kind of background to it so that it stands out easier. To the losing screen add the text "To restart the game press spacebar" or something similiar so that people would understand that they could restart the game without it being accidentaly. Maybe add a small menu to it, to go back to the main menu. Instead of exiting the game immediately have them go back to the main menu and then exit. Art wise the buildings are quite good made, the character however could been done a little better. Audio wise it's good, a bit repetitive, but in this time frame and as a compo it's hard to do alot. Maybe add a little bit more sfx when catching a beer or when you lose.

I enjoyed the couple of minutes I played the game for, and I understand the hard work needed to create something like this, especially solo, needing to do everything!. Our team also worked hard to create a game for the jam. Leaning Tower by Patrick D 2017-12-08T22:43:04Z

Just played the game, it's a really funny idea, however the game haves some bugs(My tower felt out of the game and it didn't went to game over). But beside the bugs, the movement of the tower is well balanced, you should have added something that indicated what each person does to the tower and why you need to rebalance it. The graphics are okayish, but you did well to come up with a coerent looking style. The music however is quite likely and you don't get tired from listening to it, but maybe you should add some variation in it. The sfx however could have been turned a bit down for the game over as it was quite loud. Maybe add some sfx for the walking tower when he moves or when you click to move. The ui could have some polish, try out textmesh pro in unity for better text or add a background to it so it's easier to read!

Fat Cat Battleground by rustray 2017-12-08T19:54:30Z

Very simple game that feels the theme quite well. Movement works perfectly, amazing sound(really like the bouncy on the beat of the music), amazing art combination. Some things to do better: make it easier to understand when you eat something bad, as they only appear and your size barely changes, this could be done by just making the size of the char bigger when he eats something. It's hard to notice the difference between u and the enemy, maybe add a small ui indicator of the height of the platform. Some ideas to develop upon: Add some score thing, like how many x you ate, or add a timer. For the music I would suggest adding more variety as one is quite small for the duration you guys want us to play( I heard it like 5 times in a row before dying all my playthroughs).

Duplicating Aliens by Abdonatioera 2017-12-05T15:36:50Z

It's an interesting take on the theme, the more mushrooms you get the harder is to move together, but you can also more easily kill enemies. Movement is alright, could get some polish, it feels slow to react. The bullets sometimes move really slowly and other times fast, so it's a bit weird. I feel that there should be health for all enemies/clones. THis could add more depth and strategy to the game as in moving around to have the most health in front, and less one in the back.

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Elite Beat Zombygons by Archimagus 2018-04-30T10:34:11Z

One of the better rhytm games mashups in the LD till now!

Onto the feedback:

**Overall** Overall congratulations on your entry, it's well executed entry, good music, graphics worked good in favor.

**Theme** Good combination of incompatible genres and well executed!

**Graphics** Graphics are simple but work well. Maybe add some more color variation, there's alot of green. For example, change the color when the enemey loses sides. Add maybe an interesting background, something that would not overwhelm the player though.

**Audio** As for audio, the rhytm audio in each level is great, nothing that I really can give feedback too. Now the level select audio and the main menu audio are meh in comparison. Make it more rhytm like just like in-game. Have fun with the letters also going on the beat sometimes. The audio effects are good and fit well for the game, but the shooting and moving audio effects feel too overwhelming as it happens each beat. Make it a more simpler sound that would go almost unnoticed. Or make it so that it feels as an instrument of the music track.

**Gameplay** Gameplay wise it's nice! Was quite challenging. Took me 3x to complete the last level. The way that the player needs to move on the beat and shoot on the beat feels a bit too much. Especially cause u need to do it with both hands at the same time. Maybe only make the shooting on the beat, or only moving on the beat. Nonetheless, I sugges u add a small indicator/line of the shooting so that it's easier to udnerstand it's trajectory. Cause now many times I missed the enemies because I didn't know where it would shoot, especially cause u normally move at each beat so it changes fast.

Nonetheless, I enjoyed the minutes I played the game for, and we understand the hard work needed to create something like this! 😊 Our team also worked hard to create a game for the jam. You can check it out [here](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/wizsnooks)! 🐳

The Mad Tea Party - A Card and Run Game by Tiberius 2018-04-30T10:09:28Z

Loved the addition of the voice-acting!

Onto the feedback:

**Overall** Overall congratulations on your entry, it's an interesting way to do platforming, something that feels quite incompatible as platforming is normally always moving!

**Fun** It has some nice funny parts, the voice acting make it so much more entertaining.

**Theme** Good combination of incompatible genres! Unfortunately I still feel that it's weird combining platformer with card game, as then it just feels like a puzzle. But nonetheless the execution of it was done well!

**Graphics**

Graphics were good and had a good cohesion for the whole game. Nonetheless I feel that they were too small. It took me some time to notice that the main character was a cat. Instead of making the game show up in a small window make it in the whole window and the UI just on top. With a bit better UI you guys could have made it without using the grey background at all.

There are some inconsistencies with the sizes of the screen. For example I have a 2k screen and there it shows me alot of whitespace which shouldn't be seen: https://i.imgur.com/NatddYE.png. While when I'm starting a game not on fullscreen it's a bit too small and some UI elements start to go over each other: https://i.imgur.com/X7jTj4M.png

**Audio** The music is quite good. The only thing I would say that the game theme don't really feels as sequence of the menu theme. It feels like a different game. On the sfx I've nothing to say they were good.

The voice acting was something quite unexpected and really nice. I would have added maybe an background noise or music when they are talking.

**Gameplay** Gameplay wise it's interesting but boring. True that these kind of games are not really my style, so that could also be my fault. Nonetheless it was a good experience. Though there are some things that can be done better like: Level select menu seeing more clearly withouth hovering over the items what are the levels. In the start level/draft phase of the game, being able to exit back to the level select/main menu would be nice, also a way to move the camera through the map to see the whole map. Cause only then I would be able to make a good draft. In-game, add a number of the order execution of the cards for easier understanding. While the minimap is handy, it's too small to understand it well.

Nonetheless, I enjoyed the minutes I played the game for, and we understand the hard work needed to create something like this! 😊 Our team also worked hard to create a game for the jam. You can check it out [here](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/wizsnooks)! 🐳

-------- Noisy - Ninja -------- by ThePhennix 2018-04-25T22:20:27Z

Good job on the game guys! I saw that you guys used audio from AudioNautix, I suggest to opt out of the audio reviews.

The theme of an rhytm stealth game is quite interesting and u guys did an interesting take on it. However there were some down points. It's hard for a player to feel the stealth part of the game. Maybe make it more opposite, that you make loud noise so that the police need to stop moving?

Good job for the first game! Work hard and you'll get better fast!

Rhythm Racing by Sammy6 2018-04-24T23:50:55Z

Congratulations on your first Ludum Dare submission. Welcome to the world of Game Development! I hope I'll see u in future jams too!

Now onto the game itself, to start of about the theme, the incompatibility is great, but it doesn't feel that the genres u choose are incompatible. It's more that a person is almost unable to do two things at the same time.

Graphics wise, can't really say anything. For a game made in scratch, a solo person and a first game jam, I would say good work. It all looks even, nothing that feels weird. Maybe only the end score boxes, but I suppose that's a scratch limit.

Gameplay itself wise, just as some people above said. The game is hard. Like really hard, this is mostly due to a person not being able to do two things at the same time, so not really your fault. It's fun, simple, perfect for your first game jam, now I only accept better. 😉

Feedback and idea on what u could do better: It would be great to have some kind of visual feedback that you got a arrow right. Difficulty wise, maybe u could make it easier as a start, and then ramp up difficulty. Just so that people can understand the mechanics before freaking out. A way to make the game easier is Maybe add some kind of indication how the road is going to be soon.

Nonetheless, I enjoyed the couple of minutes I played the game for, and we understand the hard work needed to create something like this! 😊 Our team also worked hard to create a game for the jam. You can check it out [here](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/wizsnooks)! 🐳

Spiky by Cristhor98 2018-04-25T21:23:30Z

Welcome to the Ludum Dare Community! I hope I'll see you in future ones again!

So where shall I start with the feedback/criticism?

Let's start with the graphics. Some nice combination of 2D in a 3D world. The whole game feels well together while 2D and 3D isn't normally something that u see together as they are mostly not compatible(hint hint). Next time maybe use a better font, the one used doesn't suit the art style. The dark levels are too dark. It's hard to even see the blocks where u can stand one. Lighten the blocks, or something so that it can be seen better, but that's the only downside of the dark levels. Watch out with what u write. There are quite some mistakes in english.

Audio: Fits really well into the game. Calm but it's still there. Nothing really to say. In the future add more diversity if you are going to continue developing the game.

Now onto the more interesting part, game mechanics and game design of it. First of all congrats on the implementation of the idea it's really well done. The basics work well, and makes it interesting while not missing something. Most of the things I'm going to say after this is mostly extra things to make it better. Just read some comments above, most of the feedback was already given by @funisfun8 nice catch there mate! I want to emphazise on one thing and that is the allowance to see the whole puzzle. Would be nice to not have to do it by trial and error. Also, maybe add some kind of grid, so that people know how many squares away are the boxes. You can get the feeling but it's never sure.

Lastly the UI would need an upgrade. These are probably not u're strong points. Take a look at other games to see how they've done it for inspiration and then adapt it to yours.

Fallen Leaves by LemonBalmGames 2018-04-29T21:29:28Z

Congratulations on your first game jam creation! I hope I see you in future game jams again!

Onto the feedback:

**Overall** Overall congratulations on your first entry, especially cause u did all yourself. While the game is really simple, it works well together, but there are alot of stuff u can do better(I know that in a jam what 1 person can do is limited), but that's what feedback is for.

**Fun** It has some nice funny parts in it with the dialogues of the npc's.

**Innovation** I can't really give feedback on this one cause what u did isn't something really innovative. But it's something that already exists and u did your best to make something good out of it by yourself!

**Theme** U tried to mix hide and seek with platformer. It was ok. It's not something really incompatible in my eyes. Nice try though!

**Graphics**

Graphics felt good together. There wasn't something weird at all. The only thing that fell off was the text color. It could be hard to read from time to time. Try to add a box behind it.

**Audio** Gives off a good ambience. Some of the sound effects where a bit out of the theme.

**Gameplay** The movement feels good, only the jumping is a bit weird. Can't really feel where I'm landing.

Flappy Soccer by Teo SK 2018-04-30T10:41:38Z

Oooh, an interesting take on the flappy birds genre!

Onto the feedback:

**Overall** Overall congratulations on your entry, it's an interesting idea, but there are some things that could have been done better.

**Theme** Funny combination actually. Good job on that!

**Graphics** Graphics are good, could ofc be better, but as you've done it solo it's quite a good achievement!

**Audio** As for audio, was nice. Only the restart each time you fall of the main menu was a bit weird, but beside that the audio felt good in place for the game!

**Gameplay** Gameplay wise it's nice! Really challenging, like alot! Especially cause u need to think not only of going high enough to passthrough but also remove the goals through scoring with the bal. While I get the idea of having the bal not go horizontal, it's just too hard other wise. If you could do it just horizontally the player would understand it much easier and it would still be difficult as hell. The other thing that's weird is that if you miss, the ball gets knocked back, and 90% of the time you'll lose it. Maybe make it so that the ball will bounce of the sreen, so that it will always stay in the place for u to get it back?

Nonetheless, I enjoyed the minutes I played the game for, and we understand the hard work needed to create something like this! 😊 Our team also worked hard to create a game for the jam. You can check it out [here](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/wizsnooks)! 🐳

Waifu Gear Solid by North Chu 2018-04-25T21:56:36Z

A nice parody made there. A really simple visual novel and stealth-ish idea. Unfortunately the game is so short so it's hard to really give good feedback on the mechanics. The art style that was done was good, and felt in place. You should have emphasized better what items could be chosen. Like a light or some particles moving around them instead of the radar.

Beside that more roads would be nice. but I know that's hard to do in a game jam. Nonetheless good job!
