Hehe this gave me a good chuckle. I actually really liked how the popup ads became part of the game space and you could use them to traverse the level.

Relevant and funny - I loved reading all the popups.
Well done! I really liked that you can stand on the ads (some of them are also pretty funny).
Thank you for your feedback @matthew-di-mare-miller @infraxion @jcourt
Great game, but the ads are nothing like real ads because these are ads I actually want to read. (:
Haha thanks! That was the whole intention of those ads! ;)
Very nice game, the ads really made me laugh. Well fitting game for the theme.
Ad mechanic was really unique. Don't know if it is a bug or not, but on web I couldn't close the boots ad and had to drag it off screen.
Nice game, Liked the humour and the ads. It fits very well with the theme. Good job.
Ahah. Amazing use of the theme idea and about the current problems with micro-transactions and lootboxes. While the idea is really nice the game has a couple of problems. Atleast on webgl the fonts are really small, so it's hard to read. The physics of the game sometimes let me jump through platforms, which I suppose is not to happen. The contrast between the platforms and the background is low, so it's a bit hard to see the platforms. Maybe add shadows.
I enjoyed the couple of minutes I played the game for, and we understand the hard work needed to create something like this! Our team also worked hard to create a game for the jam. You can check it out [here](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/jazzy-beats)! :whale:
Very funny and innovative! was a bit buggy though as you could hit your head on the roof and fall to your death loosing all those sweet moneys
I rated this very highly on humour and innovation. The XP era graphics were 10/10 and the fact that one could use the ads as platforms was a nice addition.
Original idea using those ads as platforms ! Funny platformer, nice job :)
Thanks for your feedback guys and girls! Yeah we had some issues with colliders not working correctly in our way. If you mean that you just fell through the ground : no that's not supposed to happen! D: You are right with the bootsad @robinhoodpt apparently there got a script somehow missing.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I added an downloadlink for the game on windows!
Nice way of implementing those ads! SOmteims the're even useful.
Fun game loved it ,and really funny popups, few things though, at first I thought those were just pink flowers , enemies and such npcs should look like a danger in this game they blend so well with the platform that it looks like it is just a background object.
Neat game! It was fun to see those classic XP sprites. There were a few jumps that were generated(?) that I don't think it was possible to make, though I maybe I just missed how to get past them.
The ads are just... well... "priceless" ;) "Save the princess" I lololol'ed!! Plays great and feels nostalgic, I enjoyed playing it. I found it a bit difficult at first to distinguish between scenery and enemies, but it that is easily learneable :) I could go on and on but I didn't buy the extra chars loot box and now I'm out of t
Yes that was a Problem we were aware of. We actually had lots of other background sprites but the fact that we used randoms to generate the level it quickly became a mass of undefinable sprites. So we decided to add just some backgroundsprites.
The impossible jumps is another thing thats adressed to the randomness of the game, but if you're lucky and there is an Ad spawn you can basically get any jump! ;)
thanks for playing!
This game is great! It's just like all AAA out there nowadays but it's made only by 2 people, still you get the spam and the ads, which are the reasons why we are all still gamers right? to get those sweet sweet ads? right? oh well...
Considering the current state of the gaming industry, relevant. The Joke gets old rather fast, but it is fun while it lasts.
I like the ads, but I really wanted a playable game underneath. Sometimes I click on an "X" the window doesn't go away, and having F and SPACE and a mouse button really makes the platform game almost unplayable for me.
I do like the ads because it hides the problems with the platforming. :)
The Ads also go away when you jump on them! Theres one window where we messed up the ability to click it away, so in that particular case you have to jump on to it to remove it! Thanks for the feedback
Nice game! The ads are really funny und I like the graphics in general. However, the music gets a bit repetitive after some time. The lootcrates were great ;) Nice work
That was really funny ) Thank you for the game)
I mostly skipped the instructions when playing, so I found the game to be a bit gimmicky at best. But then I found out that I could step on the ads, and that _blew my mind_.
It's a very interesting (and grindy) take on platforming and lootboxes. It's works and feels like a charm, except having to attack with f. That's some weird mapping, but nothing game breaking. Still, good sounds, good music, and a hilarious spin on the theme. I liked it a lot. The ad-driven platforminess really sets this aside from other endless runners. Having those annoying ads with sounds could have given a more powerful impact.
That's pretty much all I've got to say on it. Speaking for our team, we congratulate you for delivering such a fun (and lootboxey) experience. Kudos! :whale:
It was really fun to play the concept was also pretty good, unfortunate that the game is to short, but the idea of interacting with the ads was good. Good job :)
@moski Right back at you, I just finished playing your game and loved it. I'll write my feedback in a sec! :)
@abyster I'm really glad you like it. Although I'm not 100% sure in what way it is short, since it's a randomly generated endless runner. :^) Nonetheless, I really appreciate your feedback!
I really liked how you could use the popups to drag them and use them as platforms, that was super cool! The game as a whole had a charming humor about it, and some of the ads were hilarious. XD Really well done!!
I really enjoyed the mechanic of being able to jump on and ride the ads. Really interesting take on the theme!
I liked how comical everything was but I didn't know that I needed 100k points to not have an "empty" wallet. I guess if that was made clear, i made go and grind again!
Great little game, super clever!
Great idea and well executed. However what was kinda annoying is that there was no visual feedback when I touched the flower. The life was gone, but I understood that only later. Asides from that, very original and interesting!
Excellently done. What really elevated it for me is when i discovered that you could use the pop ups as platforms. That was such a fun discovery that changed my perspective of the game completely. It makes me hope for a version of this which is more about utilizing that meta layer of the game to finish designed levels. Great idea and execution!
Jumping feels extremely sluggish, to the point where I couldn't last longer than two popups, and so haven't really had the opportunity the explore the unique aspects of this game. Try triggering the jump when the spacebar is _pressed_, not released. This is especially annoying since many other platformers use a press-and-hold mechanic for jumping higher, whereas in this game press-and-hold leads to not-jumping and death.
Speaking of death, I kept dying without understanding why until I realized that those plants which seemingly do nothing were silently taking away some of my health. Maybe give some visual feedback, like making the character flash and recoil, when they get hurt?
Thanks @kleinzach ! we are actually thinking to take this mechanic in a new plattformer, that's not necessarily connected to this theme!
Thanks to your Feedback @gelisam yes in hindsight we would/should have added lot's of other stuff like telling the players that they have to collect 100.000 points to get the reward! :p I'm also not very happy with the jumping mechanic, thats mostly because we couldn't get the sweetspot for the jumpvalues and had some problems with disabling the colliders to be able to jump through the plattforms from the downside. Anyways I can't see the problem with the spacebar as it should work just like you say, when holding spacebar the charakter will perform "bunnyjumps" (just tried it myself).
I think we will upload a "fixed" Version when we find the time and try to implement most of the Feedback!
Thanks to all
It's a funny little game with enough sense of humor to keep the smile on my face during all the playthrough. The way your character is doing squats in sync with the music is just hilarious! The gameplay mechanic of using popup ads as platforms is totally not something you see everyday.
The only problem that I stumbled upon was that the character collisions with ads were very inconsistent. So sometimes I just clipped through them trying to propel my character upward.
Well, there is one more thing but it might just be the problem with my hardware (or with my arm and fingers). Sometimes I start dragging the window but it slips and is left behind the cursor. But as I said, it might just be my personal problem.
All in all it's a solid entry and the mechanics of helping your character by dragging some objects in the world might be worth experimenting with and expanding upon outside the jam.
Really annoying in all the right ways. Almost like you made it annoying on purpose. =P
Neat little game. I really like the mechanic of using the ads as platforms. Sometimes the ads would spawn high enough to where the top part of the window was hidden and I couldn't move/close them. Other than that, the whole thing was very well done.
It is very rare for me to say that ads have saved my life :p
Cool! Graphics are great, music fits the gameplay and it's always fun to criticize EAs buisness practices!
I loved the opening music, reminded me of dragon quest monsters ^_^ The low key graphics were great The ads were funny and it was cool that you could interact with them
Controls weren't perfect (the height of the jump could be maybe just a little bit higher?) but they were good enough I wish there was a bit of feedback when you lost a heart, sometimes I didn't realize that I was getting hit
This idea is lovely, I felt like such a badass using those ads to jump to higher places - great concept! The ads themselves were pretty funny and when I got a lootbox...aw! Only thing that made it harder was the absence of feedback upon losing a heart. I sometimes didn't even notice I lost some. The music is hilarious and having to dodge cannonballs is hilarious. This game put a smile on my face, thank you. Great job!
@wizebin @psychedelia : Thanks! We had a one hit one death mechanic in the game but it felt to punishing q: so we added the life counter in kinda last second! :D Thanks for the Feedback.
