Interesting game, I quite enjoyed it, especially the Kafkaesque setting. The greatest part was all the paperwork between levels, that was such a nice touch! Just like the music and the overall aesthetics. Very cool and fitting concept! Quite a unique take on the theme! The gameplay does get boring after a while and the controls are not the greatest, as the character seems to be sliding sometimes. I would have liked a bit more complex gameplay in the later stages, but nice job overall!
At first I thought this was a lame attempt, but then the messages made me continue playing, because the concept here is fascinating! I am kinda sad, that after “I should seek the buffletaur” there were no further messages. I didn't finish it, since there was no incentive to do so. I really liked the concept and where this was going, it's a shame that the game wasn't finished.
Simple game that perfectly encapsulates the theme. Maybe it's a bit too simple...
Fun game, at first it was unclear what I should be doing and took me a few tries to figure out the game. One doesn't really see real life performance in indie games nowadays, so this was great!
It does remind me of the Dark Room, but the storytelling needs some work in my opinion, maybe more visuals and better UI design would have been more interesting. I didn't feel like I had incentive to play.
Interesting use of the theme! The colors of the enemies was kind of confusing for me, I though the green ones were friendly or something. If they have the same attributes, I think it would have been better to use the same color for all of them. The controls are nice and smooth, the music is good, and doesn't get repetitive. We had a somewhat similar theme idea, based around health and damage balancing.:D
For some reason he controls feel a bit off. Otherwise, well done.
I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the game! Well done! The story was a bit predictable, for me at least. The music is spot on, nice job!
Nice job! For some reason the framerate was dropping like crazy on the HTML version. I really like the leaderboard and the simplicity the game starts at! As it progresses it becomes more complex. Couldn't really see the theme at work, so maybe there was a feature I missed. I didn't get very far though.
I am going to be in the minority here, because I really disliked the music, in fact I muted it after the first playthrough. The art style is nice and consistent, same goes for the fun animations! As for the gameplay, a bit of direction would have been better, I was not entirely sure what I was supposed to do, as the arrow kept pointing all over the place and why people are attacking and hurting me. It seemed like I was much bigger and stronger than some puny humans, especially in a larger form. What I didn't like, was that I had no way to avoid incoming attacks. Perhaps the enemies should have charged at me once spotted, but then would have a cool-down time where they don't attack and I can run away. That's also kind of a thing, I felt like I was supposed to eat the people, since I was the monster terrorizing their town. And I understand the point of the blow-up mechanic, but it felt really arbitrary. On the other hand I liked the fact that growing increased your viewarea!
We made a somewhat similar game, there you had to manage health and damage and balance it just right. In retrospect, I believe we had slightly similar issues this game has, and a million more bugs:D
Ügyes kis játék, egy idő után iszonyú nehéz lett! Tetszik a grafika!
Not sure, if this is a bug, but the game was very slow for me. Simple concept.
So the point of Lovecraft's stories is that there are beings far beyond of our understanding, and realizing our insignificance in the universe is terrifying. This doesn't really manifest itself in this game to my mind. Asking us to google morse code in an intense situation seems a bit off to me, even though the visuals and sounds somewhat capture an interesting atmosphere. Couldn't finish it, sadly. Also...spelling errors...come on...
I read nothing of the game, so it was pretty hard at first. The concept is nice! Kinda repetitive later, I liked the clean visuals though!
Well, this was hilarious!
I didn't find this game funny or enjoyable. It is impossible to avoid the obstacles. No tutorial, no goal, no description of any kind...
I am soo bad in this game...Incredibly challenging.
Simple and clear!
I had a few glitches too. The soundtrack was pretty great and it's an appropriate concept:D
I didn't find this enjoyable. The music was really distracting... Is this like a meta game where you have to hold on and physically survive the experience?
Very nice adventure game with a lot of story and content. Great job for creating all this in such a short amount of time. I managed to be victorious and only lost 3-4 people, so perhaps it was too easy or I just got lucky. Great work!
Hilarious!!
Nice idea, but I found the controls to be very difficult and some of the tutorial is a bit confusing. Since the concept is original, I enjoyed it after a while, but I think the tutorial should be more clear and perhaps the controls should be on screen during gameplay.
Very fun and complex game, amazing that you were able to pull it off in such a short time. I liked the little mini games and the messages, they were fun and challenging, although, I think the toilet one bugged out on me and it was over too quickly. Nevertheless, great job!
This is an original idea, that could be expanded into a complex game!
I like this game concept!
Really nice and fleshed out game, with a great mechanic. I liked the writing and progression, although I never felt like the items I've picked up actually mattered. Perhaps some kind of goal would have been nice, because I played the game for like 10-15 minutes, but didn't find anything. Either way, great job, very impressive game and nice use of the theme.
Nice use of the theme. I like the artstyle and the overall approach. the level design works too, I just wish it had save points, because I'm terrible at precise jumps. Nevertheless, I kept trying the game again and again, because this form of sacrifice is interesting.
I am not sure I understood the mechanics fully, but I did manage to get up to Wave 7. This sacrifice mechanic is quite unreliable and not very accurate, since it didn't seem like my droids were doing much at all. Shooting did feel nice, and the game feel was cool!
Really fun concept here and great execution! Well done on all fronts!
Unfortunately, I have no idea what to do and what I should do. Whenever I moved the pirates they either didn't move or an other pirate disappeared. What does the path do? This needs more tutorializing.
Nice and simple!
Solid game. There are a lot of LD games now, that focus on sacrificing your weapon, but this one does this really well. I quite enjoyed the combat, even though the weapons felt very similar. Nice job!
I like this concept a lot, great use of the theme! The boss is too difficult for me unfortunately. Kinda remind me of a very dry version of top down Dark Souls.
Really nice looking game, with a very soothing soundtrack, but I wish there was a bit more to the mechanic, because dumping my cargo never felt like it actually had any effect on anything and the clouds were impossible to avoid after the third level, so there was no challenge here. I really liked the movement of the plane and the art style was consistent and very pleasing to look at.
Quite an impressive game, with nice graphics and sound effects. I am not really into turn based combat, so perhaps this wasn't the ideal game for me, but nevertheless I enjoyed it, because it wasn't overly complicated. The sacrifice part I find a bit lacking though, since I don't really know my heroes, so sacrificing them wasn't really an issue. Great job with the combat mechanics and the art!
The game didn't start for me :( I only see the Corona logo.
Yeah, keyboard controls are not very good and this kinda ruins the experience. The shooting does feel powerful and the sounds are cool, but the controls are hard.
@mika-la-grand Thanks for the review! Well, the game is intentionally scary:) You can switch between weapons with the standard scroll, or with the number keys, similarly to most fps games. Weapons don't drop on the floor, I am not sure what you mean. Regarding the crossbow not firing, that might be a bug on our part, or perhaps the weapon was still reloading.
Graphically, this looks really nice and the take on theme is unique, but I don't really see the "game" aspect of this execution, since there doesn't seem to be an end goal. Fun idea, but a bit more gameplay would be nice!
Interesting concept. It's definitely something I have seen before during this game jam. Even our game uses this mechanic slightly. Nevertheless, this was fun. I think I died during upgrading a turret. Good job!
I quite like this idea, it's certainly a fun take on the theme! Unfortunately for some reason, the game won't respond to my mouse, and I can't rotate the camera.
Indeed, very moody!
I am not sure how the game is connected to the theme. Nice job, overall. Enemies are distinct, which is nice. However the weapon sometimes jams, so I can't shoot.
Oh my... This needs a lot more tutorializing, I had no idea what was even happening or what I am controlling or what my goal was. Even understanding your comment is a bit difficult, maybe it's just me. I really like the art style you went with though!
Nice entry, I am a fan of the genre, and this was a pretty polished experience! The mechanic is implemented well, and it's pretty hard frankly. It would be nice to have better telegraphs of the attack, so I could raise my shield at the right time, even though it doesn't seem to do much. I never got really far, even though I dig the art style!
Very funny stuff! Great job!
Really fun game! It's even balanced fairly well and requires a bit of thinking! Well done.
It seems like I am stuck too, after the first contact, I get the same pirate ship over and over again. Unfortunately, I also have to criticize the story. So humanity has not mastered warp travel, but they traveled to a different solar system within a really short amount of time? How could 100 individuals possibly start a colony. The genetic diversity is not nearly wide enough. The aliens didn't want to initiate contact due moral obligations, but they did anyway, because of what? I really liked that I could play as myself and even the exploration aspect was cool!.
Very nice game, and the mechanics are great. Unfortunately the controls and the camera makes the whole thing really-really difficult and kinda frustrating, since judging a jump is kinda hard. I really liked the whole Firelink Shrine level design and the fact that the doors are the bosses. I really liked what the doors had inside them, it's certainly a great fit for the theme! Sadly, I just could get passed a narrow area, I kept falling down.
Um... I am not sure what's happening here. I got stuck on the second level, which seems to be empty. Pretty dark concept frankly, but I don't see the connection to the theme.
Interesting take on the theme, perhaps this game has the most tension out of all other games I've tried. I don't think I figured out the entire story just now, but it was certainly really intriguing. Just like Annie, my only complaint is about whose lines do I actually choose, although at this point I am not entirely clear whether we are talking about separate characters, so this confusion might have been intentional. Nevertheless, it made the intro a bit confusing. The atmosphere was quite great and nature of the gameplay was enough to make it feel engaging. Overall, well done, this game is really unique!
Nice game! The concept is a recurring one during this jam, but the assets look nice and the overall gameplay is smooth, making the execution pretty great. Shooting an enemy is almost certainly a death sentence, as soon as the enemy has line of sight, it can shoot faster than me. I got pretty far with turrets and traps though, although it gets really difficult after a while. Overall, really polished title, the game feel is certainly there and the placement system is great. Only the shooting feels a bit weak. Nice job!
Nice worldbuilding and concept, but I found the gameplay to be overly confusing. I was not entirely what I was meant to do, and the messages were just a bit too fast, by the time I grasped the idea.
Well, this was a blast!!! Really fun and smooth experience.
Really fun take on the theme! The texts were really funny, however the game does get a bit aimless. Meaning, I wasn't sure, how I could improve my status. Nevertheless, nice job!
Very nice quality of assets! Overall great job! Controls are nice and smooth, updates are clear and easy to understand, everything works great, no bugs or glitches. My only gripe is that avoiding dead bodies is nearly impossible, since I could hardly control my ship that fast, I usually just pushed through them, without any thought about what route to take. This made the gameplay a touch too simple. Nevertheless great job with the assets and effects!
Holy hell, the visuals are amazing! The gameplay is a hit or miss with me, but the mood kept me playing, since it was so good. Really nice entry!
Solid idea here, that could expanded. Right now, it's a bit buggy, sometimes the timer fails, sometimes the door fails, sometimes the enemies are on the other side of the wall, breaking the game. Nice take on the theme, but a bit unpolished.
Pretty nice and polished game! Well done! I especially liked the sound effects and the various screams! My only complaint is, that there aren't enough civilians, or there aren't enough variation of civilians. Otherwise great job! This was one of the few games that actually made me laugh!
Really nice visuals and aesthetics! ...and the gameplay is quite intriguing too. Unfortunately, after a bunch of trading I still wasn't sure what my goal was, or what I was supposed to do. Perhaps the cool graphics hid some important story information from me, like they hid the textboxes of some of the conversations. I really liked how talking to different people changed with different devices and after different trades. The story was slowly unfolding, but at some point I got stuck, and couldn't figure out how to proceed. This is when the amazing art style kinda became a detriment, since jumping and navigating around was quite difficult. I am kinda torn, because of this.
Very very nice concept here! It was short, yes, but it left quite an impression. Really interesting take on the theme and a quite unique experience. I think the dark souls end screen kinda makes a joke out of the otherwise quite terrifying scene.
Overall, really fun game! Even the theme usage was great, and it was a lot more challenging than I though it would be! Great job. With better graphics this might as well be a cool hacking mini game in a AAA title. It's a bit unforgiving, a few checkpoints would have been really nice!
This kind of time mechanic is quite interesting! Great job with the level variety. Although I am not sure all of them are solvable.:D Great job, overall, maybe a bit of music or sfx could improve the game.
Man, I was unlucky... Really unlucky. Nice concept. My only gripe is that because of the luck factor it kinda lacks agency, just a bit more control over the odds would be nice. Nevertheless the texts are interesting to read and add to the worldbuilding! nice job!
Very nice artwork and I liked the thematic connection. A bit more gameplay would be nice, but this was already very moody. Nice job!
Great game! Love the death animations of aliens! The gameplay loop is pretty solid too, well done. Perhaps there could be a way to regain some health and I think an attack animation for the dogs would be nice! Grat variety of enemies, so no complaints there!
Reached Room 17 on my third try! That was the furthest I have gotten. I figured having three life points at all times was the best method for a long time. Nice job with the aesthetics and the music. The mood was certainly there! The upgrades didn't feel that meaningful, probably due to the limited number of enemies. Nice and sweet! Great at showing how people might get sucked into casino games.
Can you add a tutorial or something, because I have no idea how to play this? the buttons don't seem to be working, since I don't have a cursor to click on them.
Fun take on the theme! Really interesting concept and you expanded it nicely! Maybe a button for dropping coins would be nice, but otherwise I managed to get pretty far. Nice job!
Nice atmosphere and music. but I don't what I should do, I just froze a few times.
Nice drawings and concept. The turn based stuff is a bit simple, but I can see the theme in use which is nice!
I think the concept might have been interesting, but as it is now, I don't see a connection with the theme. Also picking up money from the same player over and over again and just shooting it feels a bit too simple. Nice job with the graphics though!
Great visuals and soothing music! Simple and easy gameplay, but I don't see the connection with the theme.
Maybe a tutorial would be nice, I don't know what is happening and why:)
Finally an interesting take on the theme! The graphics weren't my cup of tea, but the story was quite great! Good job!
Such a nice little game!
Yeah, this is a bit all over the place, a bit more clarity would have been nice. I am actually quite fond of the art style, and the design, but it needs a bit more expanding.
Really polished experience. Sprites look really amazing and the design is a solid foundation. The narrative is interesting too, and I liked that it actually played a part in the game. The visuals are top notch and so are the enemies. I do have to issues, first the controls are a bit uncomfortable and the enemies hurt you without even playing their attack animation. Since controlling the player is a bit slippery, it makes the fights really unfair.
Nice sprites, but I am not sure I see the value in the increased mana stuff. Am I missing a mechanic?
Fun game! The gameplay loop is pretty solid and farming is an easy solution to most problems. Perhaps the dash is a bit overpowered.
Cool game! Solid foundation, and design choices. It's simple, but challenging. Well done!
really fun music and solid gameplay. My only grip is that the ship is a bit hard to control. The updates add a lot and the varying enemies are cool. Nice job!
I lost The Game!
Yeah, I have to agree, the knife barely does any damage, and my strategy was basically just getting my health low and staying away from the fight. Maybe there should an incentive to engage in combat. Also, this is basically single player battle royale:D
Nice concept, but it was a bit too difficult for me. Because of this, it feels kinda grindy.
Nice mechanics and concept here. I really liked the take on the theme and that the game was unique. The matrix mehcanic is cool too, and the overall gamefeel is certainly there. Unfortunately, I ran out of stuff to do after a short while and I wasn't sure, whether I messed up something or not. Nice job!
The weapon feels to useless, and the combat is too frustrating to be enjoyable. I am not even sure about how the various health pools contribute to gameplay, they seem to do the same thing.
Fun little game, but needs more levels!
Interesting take on the theme. I would love to have a choice in this game somewhere, other wise it feels a bit like a sightseeing tour. Nice job, the monologues very certainly interesting somewhat, even if I am not sure about the ending.
I couldn't even get past the first enemy. A main menu would be nice too.
Fun little game with nice sound effects, but it felt like luck played the biggest part in the gameplay. Controls are a bit too slow for me.
@drprettypatty thanks for the review. Yes, having IK move like you describe was the initial intention. The monster even does this to a certain extent, but making this look organic proved to be quite challenging. The arcing forward motion is kinda difficult with a spider shaped creature. We kept the legs bright so this IK effect remains visible, but yeah there is always a next time. :)
Yeah, controls are really frustrating, but otherwise Nice little concept and game, impressive that you could finish this in a weekend.
Really stellar job! I think this is one of the best LD games I have played this jam. The Alien vibe is totally there, the ending has a cathartic moment and the gameplay is challenging but fun! We also tried to do an avoid the monster horror game, but yours really takes the cake. The only issue I can think of was that the mouse sensitivity sometimes broke the camera.
Unfortunately this is far too dark to be playable. I got hit first every time, and scouting ahead with the cursor was really tedious. Really liked the artstyle so gave you top marks for Graphics and the gameplay (the little I could experience) was fun, but I just can't play this without dying.
Cool idea! The gameplay is solid and the visuals neat. The addons didn't seem to add much to the game, maybe the whole thing was a bit chaotic and hard to understand. It definitely wasn't easy! Perhaps a simpler tutorial like level could have been nice. Also, often it looked like I hit an enemy, but it didn't die, not sure if that's a collision box issue, or that some enemies have 2 health or something.
I've tried quite a few combinations and variations, but the numbpad doesn't seem to be working at all. Is it possible to get out? Nice concept, but I don't know how to proceed.
This was just far too difficult for me :/
Nice graphics, but maybe I didn't understand the game or something because just clicking right and attack got me to over 300 xp. The enemies always hit me first, so I didn't know there were alternate strategys, or something. I think adding some kind of gameplay challenge would have been nice.
Managed to get one ring down, but I am kinda lost now, and don't really know how to proceed. Maybe a short tutorial level would have been helpful!
Played this a few times. It's a nice little moody game. One thing, maybe don't put the monster in the main game page, because the fact that I already saw, what I was supposed to be afraid of kinda ruined the game for me. This monster games are usually only scary because you don't really know what the monster is. I liked the overall look of the labyrinth, I just wish it was a bit less bright, or the monster a bit more dark, because it's a bit goofy that he is so bright next to the darker walls. Unfortunately, the map was not really good for gameplay like this. There are far too many dead ends which just get you killed, and you can't do anything about that. The monster seems to find me every time, so the game always turns into a chase, so it would be nice not to have dead ends. I couldn't find the exit, even though I tried a few times to check all the side walls. Overall, well done for the time available.
Really moody game, quite frightening but in an elegant and restrained way. I found myself swallowed by the narrative, even though I rarely get into games like this. The writing is excellent here and just pulled me in. The choice based aspect of it, I didn't quite get, my choices were random and incoherent and the narrative's connection to reality was difficult to see, so my choices were weightless. It felt more like I was in an eternal torment, with thoughts repeating and merging and eating each other with no end in sight. It's like being stuck in a daydream after a bad day. Very interesting take on the theme and I am quite surprised by the length of this work.
Nice little clicker game! I wish the production pipelines actually had an influence on each other, since I only need scrap, I won't be investing any in metal or the others, because they don't result in any scrap increase. After a certain point there is nothing left to do for me, besides watch the gameplay, so I think you should have kept the clicking aspect and the upgrades we get would simply be multipliers.
Gameplay is something I have seen many times before, but the smooth controls and cohesive visuals were nice.
@feesh What I didn't like was the seeming delay after my input. There was a room with four monsters in, that I had to lure to a specific spot, to not get cornered when I went around the second time. I knew what I had to do, but very often the enemies would get me even though I tried to be as fast as possible. I guess my suggestion is this: I would have liked it better if the movement system was less "turn based" and a bit more smooth. For example, to go straight up I wouldn't have to press up once, wait for the character to move up one block and press up again, rather just hold the up key. Now I completely understand that the challenge of this game comes from having the one press one movement mechanic, so perhaps take this more a personal gripe than an actual criticism:) maybe I'm just bad at games like this.
Very nice concept and use of theme, unfortunately I couldn't figure it out. I felt like the maze felt too samey and some kind of visual indicator was missing that could highlight what changed. I also missed a little ambient background music or sound effects, without a memorable visual or some kind of sfx, the game world felt too sterile and artificial.
Very simple but oddly very atmospheric game. Nice job!
Top marks for audio and mood! Really memorable experience, I really liked this little game.
Nice little game, with very good sound effects. The controls felt a bit wonky, as if everything I did happened half a second late. Since the projectiles are quite fast, this made the game really difficult. The idea and use of theme was executed well nonetheless. Good job! Maybe add a few screenshots to the game's page!
@tigerj Hey, thanks for playing! It was really interesting watching your stream, and seeing your approach to the narrative! About the Amanda issue: The characters know of each other and mention each other, even if you haven't met them before. Amanda is the girl from the Ring movies, she is the one half stuck in the TV.
@NORRIMO Hey, I am glad you enjoyed the game. Would you please edit your comment, because it spoils the murder mystery?
I played the Original edition to give fair ratings. Very well put together game! The gameplay was clean and simple and very polished. I really liked the intro, and I wish the game went further with the narrative, because it was funny and clever. As for the citybuilding aspect, I enjoyed the way you could place roads and buildings, windmills were few and far apart, but I guess that was the challenge. The thing is the art style in the beginning is great, but the sprites for the buildings just look really bad, I could never make out what was on them, so my city looked kinda ugly.
I think I figured out a pattern, and after that the game became a cakewalk. I didn't see the incompatible genres in the gameplay though, but the overall goal was clear. I see a lot of potential here, this game could be expanded later. For a weekend project this was really nice! Well done!
I don't feel like these two themes mashed really well, it felt more awkward then anything else. I loved the audio and the general ambiance, but this art style was not the greatest. The graphics should be consistent, if the birds look too different from the character and the environment, it just doesn't feel very connected. Maybe all black and white would have worked better.
Some kind of organic tutorial or hints in the game would have really helped with the experience. It's not even clear what the goal of the game is. Figuring out these things was frankly more frustrating than it was supposed to be. It's really a shame, because the overall look and feel is well done, the idea is original and the setting is definitely something fresh. The game is simple but polished, and besides some control issues, I didn't experience any technical glitches. Just try to make the game more accessible for new players, maybe with an extra scene where you briefly explain the controls and add some context. Also, I didn't really see how this connected to the theme.
Anyway, nice job, all in all, just improve on the presentation a bit!
Nice mechanic, fits well into the theme! I wasn't a fan of Flappy Birds, but this really changed my perspective, so great job!
Man, this is incredibly hard. The sound effects are great, as for the mechanics, this isn't the first game I have seen during this jam, that uses this mechanic. As usual, it's very difficult to look at both screens at the same time. I like the overall aesthetics, though!
Very nice looking game, unfortunately, I didn't get controls, and just kept running into walls. It was more frustrating then fun, and as said before the blood restore items reward too little blood and they are too difficult to pick up.
A bit more context would have been nice. Like what the objective is, what the rules are, what the buttons do. Clicking doesn't seem to have any effect, and I didn't know what I was supposed to do and why. maybe a smaller tutorial room would explain things.
The art style looks nice, but some things need to be flashed out more.
The visuals here are really-really impressive! The gunplay is fun for the most part, it's all about amazing spectacle and hectic typing. The approach to the theme is something I have seen other LD games do too, but it's undoubtedly best executed here. The feedback loop and overall presentation is quite spectacular! I did encounter some hitbox issues though. I feel like this game would be even more fun with a few more mechanics, because it did get a bit stale by the end.
Nice little game! Well done!
Hilarious little game! The art is pretty amazing, the gameplay is very simple and the overall mood is quite fun!
The art looks pretty great, and I like your take on the theme a lot. It's a bit chaotic, I was never sure what I was supposed to do during fights.
Very very difficult, and it seems like my character takes damage randomly. Interesting concept, though!
Very interesting combination, even if it seems like a game made for aliens from an other dimension. The web version is pretty hard to play, due to the mouse controls. This is like 1D FPS and yeah, at first I had no idea what to do. It's hard to see how this could changed without losing the weirdness aspect, that makes it appealing.
Hm.. well the visual style is certainly distinctive, but I don't find this game in any way challenging or interesting. My goal is missing, there is no narrative, the stuff we find is meaningless, since it doesn't have any use in the gameplay and the exploration aspect is not engaging, because there is nothing to explore, since apart from some useless treasure, there is nothing to find.
All in all, this needs a lot more work. Maybe focus on the writing or add meaningful resources. The lack of sounds and music is quite noticeable too. The story the game had in the beginning was a great start, but there isn't even a conclusion to it. An earlier comment mentioned "good narrative", so maybe I missed something, is there any other story besides the intro texts?
Creating a roguelike is quite a challenge and I like the effort, sadly I feel like that effort doesn't come across in the game, because there is zero incentive to replay it. Right now, I could see this turn into some kid of meditative experience, with some good music.
Nice concept! I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do, but this was very atmospheric!
Nice aesthetics and a funny concept! Well done. The story aspects worked well too. I wish there was some way to turn back into a human in the water.
Controls are a bit wonky.
I am not sure, it feels like this was a mixing of ice skating and racing.:D I like the idea, but I had no idea where to go, since after the second curve I inevitably crashed into a tree and lost the others.
Nice work, very difficult game.
Also.. comic sans? really?:D
Very cool and also very difficult! I like this twist on the theme! Maybe a few hints would have been nice or some way to uncover a few just for a short time, otherwise the game is really long! Anyhow, I liked the dodging bullets aspect a lot!
Very fun game! I do see a form of limitation, which happens because of the theme, looking at the cards and deciding was really difficult, because enemies blend in to the environment, so it was hard to see, when I can look at the cards and the best action was always just activating all of them at once, because while they had different effects. These effects were not that different gameplay wise, except for the unlimited ammo. I feel like the game would have been a hundred times more fun, without the sort of forced card mechanic, because the guns feel great, the enemies are nice, and having a boss was also great, even though I could barely see the thing, because of the screen was covered in the GUI.
It was pretty hard to understand why I was failing, but eventually I did. Interesting combination of mechanics, but maybe better tutorials would have been nicer. I really like the concept of this game!
Interesting entry. The approach to the theme is quite weird, I don't think these are incompatible, they just look kinda bad together and it doesn't seem like they change anything from a mechanical standpoint.
The gameplay is okay, the fighting is kinda awkward, but overall the layout and level design is well done and challenging. I died a lot, and I appreciate, that there was an animation for that. The boomerang is frankly the most interesting aspect of the game, I wish it was expanded a bit more, because it's so much fun!
Hm... Nice, little puzzle game with very challenging puzzles. I don't really see the connection between the two themes, the survival aspect didn't really work for me, or I just didn't know what to do with it. The third person view is odd in an escape room to my mind, an fps controller might have worked better, or maybe hiding what's behind the cage door, until we find the keys... Some story would have been nice too, these escape rooms always have them.
Fun little idea. I didn't always understood all the zooming in and out of stuff, and sometimes it was really easy, but the graphics are great, and the text is cool too. Great job!
Alright, this is a tough one. Some kind of tutorial is really necessary, it's very difficult to figure out what is even happening on screen. Maybe a few text screens with some context would be fine too. I like the concept of this game a lot more than the execution. The way the game feels now, is just not very fun, and I can't really point to a single issue, rather it's a combination of the presentation, graphics and overall gameplay. It simply needs a lot more polish, clear indicators of what is happening and when, what we can equip and how and when they work. The artwork has to be more cohesive too.
As said before, the idea of the game is really interesting, and gamifying a topic like this is quite a challenge, perhaps this text based combat style isn't what best suits this narrative.
I think, some things might be bugged, sometimes there was responsive to a decision sometimes there wasn't. I like the idea, and the gameplay is simple but cool, the graphics do elevate the game.
I am not sure what everyone was talking about, I think the game was very fun! The controls were okay, to my mind. The voice over elevates the game so much and the tutorial is really really helpful. The feedback loop is consistent and nice, overall this is a very polished experience. It does get a bit stale over time, but there is only so much you can accomplish during a weekend. Nice job, with this!
Quite confusing and kinda difficult to control. The graphics look nice and polished though and the concept is very interesting!
Funny, I liked the breaking of genre aspect of this. It was really fun. However I wasn't sure, what I was supposed to do, and after a while she no longer responded to me, and it got a bit boring.
A very moody experience, the music is really well done and adds a lot to the game, great job with that. The approach to theme is quite cool and something I haven't seen before. The gameplay itself is a bit wonky, perhaps the hitboxes are a bit off, or maybe the arrows are too fast.
Nice game, but I feel like it proves that these two genres are incompatible. I was never able to look at my character, as I was focused on the keys. The sound was nice, however I feel like it was kinda separate from the game's soundtrack. It is just too difficult the way it is now. I like the idea of this game though, and the overall presentation is quite great, the art and sprites look really cool!
Well, I can see what you had in mind with this and I think that's an interesting idea. The warp zone approach was cool, although the timings were a bit too tight. I don't really have much to say, I feel like most of this was in a Unity asset, if I recall correctly.
Nice take on the theme! Some kind of tutorial would have been nice, as the controls are not the best.
I feel like this is a nice, idea, but at this stage, it's not that interesting. I hope you keep working on this, because there is a lot of potential here.
The art style was nice and minimal, the music was cool. The mouse sensitivity is a bit too much though. I wish there was a bit more to this game, because at this stage you just run to the nearest crystal wall wait there and run back and repeat. Then you just place turrets around the power source. The crystals don't disappear, so there is no reason to go exploring, there are no enemies that make the waiting difficult, no challenge at getting to the crystals, the waves only have a small number of enemies, and fighting them is too easy. A bit more context would have been nice too, like some text explaining, who you are, and what the enemies are. Also, I think the crystal adding is bugged. Sometimes it subtracted what I had. Lastly, fps and turrets are hardly incompatible. I can recall a few games that use this mechanic and with a bit more time, you can make it work in this game too!:)
Very cool game mechanic, and you did so many interesting things with it. Well done! I didn't really see how these genres were incompatible or anything, though.
With some refining this could be a great education game for young children. There were a few technical glitches with the numbers, but overall this is a great concept. Everything besides the graphics works really well!
Very moody game, I wanted to explore further, because the world seemed interesting. It's got a kind of Dark Souls-esque feel to it.
Unfortunately, it was very unclear, what was happening and why and what my goal was. Not sure how this was connected to the theme, it felt like a standard FPS game.
Very nice looking game, and the roguelike element is quite a plus! The fall mechanic is really good. The game is also really difficult, a bit too much, perhaps a health system would have been nice. I got a freeze at some point too, not sure what triggered it though. I didn't understand the connection to theme either.
Nice little moody game. Didn't really understand how the theme was connected, but nevertheless it was a fun little ride!
I can't say this was very interesting. It looked nice, but seeing that more than half the assets are not even made by you, I can't really give your props for that. The music was fitting and the lighting was beautiful though. I was unable to get past the second island, the floating small islands were so far away, I tried like three times, but never even got close. The blink platforming was an interesting aspect of the game, but I feel like the hidden object part was executed incredibly poorly. You don't have to search for things, basically the object that isn't a tree is the one you have to click on. At least you should have added a few more options. All in all, I feel like this worked great as a sort of atmospheric walking sim-esque game. A bit more narrative would have been nice too.
The way you can change parts of the being is really nice, I don't remember ever seeing such a mechanic in an LD entry before. Nice job with that, because the three beings even look cool. The artstyle is a bit inconsistent, as the 3D part is too different from the art of the customers. The music works and the presentation is nice.
The odd thing is, there is not much gameplay here, you just have to memorize what the three customers want and that's it. It's a shame because the assembling mechanic is so interesting. I wish there was some interaction between you and customers, they would say something and you would have to assemble something for them and hope for the best.
The sound effects and overall ambiance is quite amazing. The little story bits are great too, but some kind of goal would have been nice. The combat is not exactly my kind of gameplay. It seems to be bugged too, even if I hit the correct buttons it subtracted points. Nice job with the graphics as a whole, my only problem is with the combat system, it could have been a bit more engaging.
@CodeKoto wow... this aspect of the game was totally lost on me. I was under the impression we need to attack all. Perhaps the setting is the reason for this, a less scary setting might reinforce the moral choice system better.
I was surprised because this isn't the first game that I've seen during this jam that used this mechanic, but this was probably the best one out of all those. Of course, it's still kinda hard to look at both screens at once, but I guess, that's just the challenge of the game. It does get a bit tedious, perhaps a shorter track might have worked better. All in all, okay concept, and great execution! The sound effects are hilarious and add so much to the game, so well done in that department as well!
I was very surprised by this game. It looks like the kind of game that I hate, but the whole mood was so great, that I had to keep playing even if the controls were a little hard to get used to. The combination works surprisingly well, it's weird but interesting, and that's rare!
One of the few games that really nailed the theme. I love that you can jump on text and interact with words. This is an amazing mechanic. The visuals are a little goofy, but it matches the story. Great job, Rated high on innovation!
Nice and complete game. I was surprised that I didn't see more turn based fps games, but nice job with this one. I like that you took your time with the characters and made a robot and two humans. The music and sfx were nice.
I did have a few issues with it. Primarily that tactics and planing plays almost no role in the game. I enjoyed that I could only fire one gun every second turn, but there could have been more of these challenges, because the game was simply too easy and too long. The art was a bit inconsistent, like the model quality of robot was so much different from the model quality of everything else. I liked the ground and rock texture, but you could have just made everything with simple colors like the characters, that way everything would be more cohesive.
All in all, nice job, I am sure, it's difficult to balance something like this, and for a weekend you did a great job!
@DevinStuff Check this tool, it's kinda helpful when it comes to categories, even though it only lists like 5% of LD games: http://ld41-matrix.appspot.com/
Not sure what exactly is happening here... Seems really funny though!
The keybindings are definitely an issue, just like the jumping. The graphics look great, and consistent. Cool for a first game!
Well, this was hilarious! Probably the most funny game this event.
It's a mixed bag, some things worked a lot better than others. For one developer this is a really nice job! On the other, I am probably not the ideal player, as I am not a fan of any of these genres, however I quite liked the self-referential humor and the sort of fourth wall breaking moments. That aspect was much more interesting to me, that the seemingly random gameplay mechanics that didn't really fit together.
Fun little game! The art is very nice, but there isn't any challenge here. Mashing all buttons at once, simply does the trick.
