You should add some sort of tutorial... xD
This looks like it could be good, but I can't figure out what to do
Cool idea, placing pirates was a bit clunky (kept glitching to the sail? Maybe I just don't get it).
can't move samuel to Sails, it is full... we need some tutorials, at least you will add some text tutorial to itch.io page. it will be more playable. after that i want to play again. because i like pirate games. arggh!! :)
You can see the default skybox in the menu :/. I didn't understand how to move the sailors. I think the shark and calamari are cute. Nice effort, at least you finished something, congratulations.
That was a sweet game, and definitely a nice take on sacrificing. It was quite unclear where you can even move the pirates, but ulitmately I was able to beat the game. I enjoyed it quite a bit, I am a fan of resource management games. Good job, congratulations!
I played the game for quite a while. It would benefit from a tutorial. I actually really like this game, can I please have permission to make improvements to it? I will give full credit to you for the original version. I have so many things I want to add... Please??
Congratulations for the game. I missed a tutorial, unfortunately the crew died. I liked the song =]
I like the concept and after several plays started to get some idea what was going on. I thought I was winning as I was getting pretty close to home and when I got a message saying that the seas were merciful it suddenly said I died. Trying again I got a message that pirates hat attacked with some stats on the damage done but then it just said I lost without explanation. I found the only strategy just to be to ditch any crew members that get sick which I guess is fitting for the theme!
Hi there,
The main selling points of this game are clearly the audio and art. The game mechanics didn't feel that well designed and therefor not that fun either. Try to work on that the next time. Also try to give the user some visual clues on what he can do, for exemple put little indicators on where pirates might be put to work. It took me a while to realise that I could move them...
Anyway now I've got that tune in my head for the rest of the day... Thanks ;-)
Cool game and great job for unity newbies.
Hope you two stick to GameDev and we see annother Game of you on the next LudumDare.
Well Done
Thanks everyone for the feedback, and support.
Pirates snapping to the sails is a bug, and we will probably soon upload post JAM build with bunch of game experience / UI fixes.
Edit: Post JAM builds are now uploaded.
@dkmk100, the link to the source on GitHub is in the description. Feel free to take the code and submit a pull request for whatever you want to fix or change. If you want to make your own separate game based on our stuff you're free to do that as well, we only ask you to rename it to eliminate any possible confusion :)
It's pretty great concept and I like the craft design of the game). ALso special graditude to sound work. But I don't get it how to move characters and how to prevent their sickness. Overall it's a lovely game:)
Really cool game. I really liked that all the pirates had all those attributes which influence how you can sail and how the resource usage is influenced. You managed to match the theme quite well with having to sacrifice some crew members such that the rest of the crew (well, like 1 pirate...) can survive.
Unfortunately, I have no idea what to do and what I should do. Whenever I moved the pirates they either didn't move or an other pirate disappeared. What does the path do? This needs more tutorializing.
The base game is indeed a bit unclear, so I randomly dropped pirates and lost over and over. I'll try your post jam build later and rate you based on it :) The boat could have used a bit of movement with the waves. Still, I like the "childish" art style and the tune is catchy!
P.S. the "boom" sound is too much loud, I almost had a heart attack when hearing it
Once I found out what to do and where each section was the game was actually really fun, managing where to put pirates based on their skills, on my second attempt I managed to win without sacrificing pirates. To improve you could make a tutorial or make it clearer which sections are which. Overall the concept and game is really fun.
I can't get the tune out of my head. Congrats for that.
Other than that though, I couldn't really understand how everything is related to the pirates themselves. A few things were just out of my hand (the pirate encounters and sicknesses). Can they be influenced in some way I didn't find? I mean, obviously have the best pirate manning the cannon but that does nothing for the sicknesses. Maybe just the RNG God was merciless to me? I got attacked 3 times in a row by pirates. :(
Really cute looking game, but as others have already mentioned, need some transparency (and maybe a tutorial) on the mechanics.
I understood the game but I think you should definitely include a tutorial because it is really difficult to get what the game is about at first. The UI of the game could also be improved to make the game easier and more intuitive to play. The artwork of the game should also be improved. I think the sound works nice.
Did not really understand how my decisions affects next day. Graphics r great and i could play music on background for days :D GJ!
An interesting game, with a feel like FTL. Though much simpler.
Unfortunately there is little strategic depth as once you figure out optimal placements for the pirates, there is little need to move them around. Maybe having something like "Tiredness" or "Morale" that would force you to send some pirates to rest so you have to reshuffle them based on who is currently unavailable to work could add a bit in this department.
Also the Kitchen seems to do absolutely nothing. Dunno if this is by design or just wasn't implemented properly. I expected it to lower the food consumption (as coocking helps use food more optimally), but the forecast didn't show the difference. So the only use I had for it was an empty spot to shuffle pirates around - most areas only allow one person so you can't assign the right person till you move te wrong person elsewhere.
The hitboxes for work areas are also tiny, and twice I accidentally threw people offboard while trying to assign them to Oars.
The Theme is also not well presented as it is possible to get home before running out of food, without sacing any crewmembers. It takes always running through combat encounters, but you can safely handle one beating, and if you get lucky RNG to scare off attackers with Cannons, you can get home in 3 turns.
