Satisfying game, I feel very zen.

Satisfying game, I feel very zen.
Pretty nice little eating things game. Tried to be a pure herbivore for most of it, at least until I ran out of visible flowers.
Great idea making the sword your healthbar. Nice touch!
Awesome little game! I checked out the code but the engine is missing! Any chance you can open source it?
Neat game idea with hilariously frustrating controls. I like the take on the theme and all the simple, yet effective polish details.
Pretty tricky to actually make use of the controls. Would be nice to have a way to control the audio column.
An implementation of Conway's Game of Life. With no way to control what the start position is, it's a bit tricky. As well, on three plays, it seemed like the field had a tendency to just die out rather than forming very interesting patterns, with only a few occilating spots rather than developing into the more complex and majestic patterns that a less random GoL can produce.
Which isn't quite "Growing".

Audio was kinda loud, but the actual game is quite cool, a more realized version of the classic "eat smaller things" game. Having non-eatable opponents (immune cells? )) that are trying to destroy you and that have to be dodges gives a meat to the gameplay lacking in some of the other titles on display. I had fun!
Cool game, nice retro graphics. I don't think this really follows the theme too well. The minecart has 2 buttons but overall there are 4 buttons. It also took me a while to realize the button to press was "Z" and not "2". Beyond that it's a nice game.
Deceptively deep in terms of it's tactics!
Good level design!
Yeah, playing from Source is pretty tricky for most people. Not played it because of that.
Oooh, took me a bit to realize that every time you make a new room, it's randomly sized and shaped. Very interesting mechanic. A way to abort placement (even if it saved the shape you'd rolled until placement) would make it a bit easier to plan things out.
Great work for a weekend, I hope to hear that this gets some more love after and turned into a fully treated thing for, say, newgrounds.
I liked the art style and the physics made the game enjoyable. The dialog scrolled pretty quickly though and I missed a few of the lines.
Was kinda awkward to control, since the LD34 site put the game in a subwindow, which was also controlled by the arrow keys, so my actual camera was moving around like crazy. Pretty simle, and like many have mentioned it compares to Agar.Io . The slowly shrinking effect does add a bit more tension to the process though.
That's the joke!
I've got a Windows Machine, and cannot run OS/X only programs.
This Game didn't seem to be either of the two themes. 3 Lives is rather tight for a bullet hell game, and I guess the visuals and music are cyberpunk, but other than that the idea didn't really come through to me.
I agree with the other comments, the controls are confusing to figure out. Once you learn the controls, it's quite a bit of fun with a nice pixel art style and calming music. Good use of both themes!
I really had fun with this game and I made it all the way to the end! It started off a little slow and difficult, but that quickly fell away and I was really enjoying the abilities that I unlocked.
The best part of this game is your level design. You managed to build a 5-10 minute long Metroidvania experience contained in a very small map. Your use of the theme as a game mechanic (getting bigger = unlocked more zones) was perfectly executed. Great game, and great job!
Castle Custodian is a great name for a game =P. The art and audio really added to the atmosphere on this one.
The spawn walls on miss mechanic is interesting, but it can be a little frustrating for the player. I enjoyed walling off enemies until I realized I was running out of level. I'm sure this is by design, but it's a very unforgiving mechanic!
Fun game!
Fun and theme appropriate take on an old title!
Pretty fun concept! It loved that the game mechanics gave me enough freedom to be levels in unexpected ways. Totally filled some rooms up with tribbles...
This is a really beautiful game. Thank you for making it.
Very interesting take on the theme!
This was a really innovative game- I'm not sure I have ever played a game like this. The music I created was entirely unexpected. One change I would like is the ability to see what blocks will be filled by an instrument without having to place it.
Fun game!
This felt like a really well polished game. Great job guys! The art, audio, and game design were all really well integrated.
Fun little game!
I found this game very hard, but fun! I quickly realized that you needed to abuse the fall faster (s key) in order to platform quicker.
This was a good use of theme, and I found the plot pretty funny. What are all the members of this tribe doing *inside* a volcano?
The clean art style is really wonderful. I found it hard to figure out which tiles were best repaired.
Growing platforms like this is a really interesting twist on platforming!
I did end up in a few situations where a platform got away from me and I had to restart, which was frustrating.
Fun game!
Hey @kmce Thanks for the feedback! Can I ask whose twitter feed you saw it on?
Thanks for the feedback everyone!
This game is really hard! The hit detection when the player is near the edge is not very accurate. I think it would help a lot if the bullets could fly outside of the room. It may also be more fun if the room reset, even a little it, when you complete a level.
Fun little game!
I agree, the art and animation is fantastic. The game is way too difficult though. I could not get past the tentacle boss- and I tried for quote awhile.
Very hard game! I appreciated the writing and pixel art though.
I figured out you needed to use the mouse, but you may want to write the full control list somewhere.
This is a well made game that deserves more reviews! You should rate some other peoples games so that more people see what you've made here.
The timer is a little aggressive, and the click registration needs work, but the basic game loop is pretty sound. I like that you included the small golden bonus items that net you extra points- nice touch!
Fun little game!
I managed to make it to level 3 in your game! It took 2 people playing- one to shoot and another to jump.
We did find a bug, you can spam jump to increase your jump height significantly. It does seem to cause a ton of framerate loss...
Interesting game!
The tetris platformer idea was really neat.
The pixel art in this game is excellent- I loved it. The music choice also nailed the atmosphere for me.
I had trouble understanding the rules though. What exactly does the boost, save, and recharge do?
Hard game! I spent a lot of time in the training honing my skills. I was able to get pretty far. The background music excellent!
Well made game!
Alright this game was hilarious.
Things I liked: * The writing was super great and weirdly meta. * The clue's design was really well thought out! I had no trouble knowing what to do next or what clue to select in a conversation * The music was top notch, it really added to the game's atmosphere.
Things I would change: * More content! * Super nitpick, but provide more contrast between the persons name and what they are saying in the conversation box.
For some reason when I download the zip from itch.io I cannot open it.
I get an error that reads 'The Compressed folder is invalid"
This is a very innovative take on the theme! I really appreciate how unique the 'time puzzle' mechanic is in your game. I beat all 6 levels!
This was a fun game that I continued playing for quite a bit! The abilities were really well design!
Things I liked: * The fact that I was presented with unique upgrades each round was awesome! It felt like I was making my own 'build'. It made me want to replay and try others. * The abilities really felt like they had some good synergy! * The weapon variety was really fun. At the end of a round I would hurry to grab the next weapon and tried to use them all. The spear's range was OP. * You can keep retrying for a bit from the fight you died on. I died a lot, so I am very thankful you added this. =P
Things I would change: * Combat didn't feel super interactive, my strategy was to pop the defense+berzerk ability, dive into melee range, and spam attacks. * I had trouble tell when some enemies were dead- the art didn't change enough
Very pretty game and the music was great too! It felt like it could be a small part of a shipped product!
However, I wasn't sure what I had to do. I was staying alive and killing the cats but "Boss Gato's Coins" rarely seemed to decrease!
This was a very polished experience that I really enjoyed- great game feel!
Things that I liked: * It got really hectic after a few rounds, but in a fun way. * The pixel art animations felt very smooth. * The design choice to use grid placement.
Things that I would change: * Convey to the player which lanes enemies are walking down so that they have more time to prepare their defenses (in the early rounds I had to run up to see, and then run back to build) or prevent the player from setting up as far back as I did (once I realized this I was already committed).
Thanks for the fun game!
Fun fast paced game that I had a good time playing!
Things I liked: * A well executed 3D game with cool billboarded 2d elements! It reminded me of Doom! * The high-tempo music was awesome and was an excellent fit for the gameplay. * The minimal art style was great, the particles bouncing on the floor looked neat, and I liked the color palette you chose.
Thengs I would have changed: * The player controls felt very "slidey" like I was running around on ice. It made it hard to play when it got harder. * The shooting enemy hit really hard and killed me a bunch. * Using health as ammo was a bit of a boring way to incorporate the theme.
Great job!
This game was certainly an experience. 100% amazing. XD
Things I liked: * This game has a surprising amount of polish! * I felt the players abilities had a really well done game feel and both platforming+combat felt very responsive. * I especially liked the slight time-scale when hitting enemies, makes the impact feel weighty. Good attention to detail. * The art direction was weird as hell... and I loved it.
Things I would change: * Spending health to gain abilities (and use some) was a kind of boring way to incorporate the theme. * Add an invulnerability period when the player is hit. I was getting knocked back into even more damage.
It sucks you had trouble exporting your game. I downloaded your source (to see if maybe I could make a build for you), and the executable works for me! The game does appear to be a bit unstable and would randomly crash for me after a few minutes.
In any case, i was able to play through 5-6 rooms, and did so with each of your abilities. It's a fun little game that definitely has promise!
Things I liked: * The weapon variety was fun! I had the most success with the first ability (the lance?) and the hardest run was definitely with the charge up Phantom Impact ability. * Your black-on-white with particle emitters art style was really good. I think the game was visually pretty. * Although you did not select to be rated on music (didn't make it I assume?), I liked the song you chose and it felt like a good fit.
Things I would change: * Being able to customize your loadout up front for a run is a super cool idea, but I didn't feel like any of the abilities synergized well and I just stuck with one each run. * That speed upgrade you have got me killed repeatedly =P * Some of the rooms felt a bit unfair * I wanted to choose teleport!
I lived 170 years! Though I went to jail numerous times for undoubtedly heinous crimes.
40 is just when we stopped making levels. =P
Thank you all for the great comments! Lots of good ideas and great feedback.
@shaolin-dave I'm sorry you ran into a bug! We had another person report that the slots were not displaying correctly. It's implemented using simple UV scrolling, so we are stumped as to why it's not working. If you don't mind helping us debug this: what browser are you using and could you check if the slots work using a different one? The music missing is even more mysterious, because we are doing nothing special there (just a Unity audio source). Thanks!
Fun game mechanics! I really appreciate the uniqueness of this game- lots of games went very literally with the theme, but this one is a different take. It was fun to try out different minion compositions. Thank you very much for including autorun!
I made it to the Spawning Pools (I think) level and was not able to beat it. The difficulty ramp felt pretty good leading up to that level, but then I just got stuck there.
Fun game, and I'm really glad you made it!
There wasn't much of a game here, but you had was very polished!
The pixel art was really good! Your parallax background was also super cool. I powered everything and grew some dancing plants? Was that everything to do?
For anyone struggling to move the boxes: Mash left click (shoot) on them at various angles until they move, it took me awhile to figure this out. Get the 4 production lines running, and then defend them.
This game deserves way more ratings. You need to rate some games so that you receive more!
Things I liked: * The art and music were excellent in this game! Really well done. * The gameplay is super unique. I manage to get all 4 of the production lines going, and it was really hard to defend all the machines from the enemies. * The crazy physics elements of these machines combined with the enemies means the Mint turns into absolute chaos by the end- hilarious chaos.
Things I would change: * Clarify in the controls description how to move the boxes. It took me awhile to figure out how to get them moving. * The player movement felt very floaty. * The production UI at the bottom was unclear to me what was being conveyed. Simplify and clarify it.
This is a super promising game, and I could really envision a full version. It just needs balancing and clarity. Rate more games so that people see this great entry!
Just played your game and unfortunately I was only able beat level 1 once! The purple guys do a ton of damage, have a lot of health, and you have to get in really close in order for your bullets to hurt them!
I really like the idea of body swapping to "upgrade" yourself, but I wasn't able to do it very often due to the difficulty. I'm not sure if I was playing wrong?
Running out of power and having to play a little mini-game (albeit just simple tapping) is a really interesting mechanic though!
Looks like the actual link can be found here: https://redowlgames.com/project/ld44
I played your game but I'm not sure I understand how to win. The controls work and I see that I can place two kinds of hexes at the of the volcano, but I don't know what the goal is.
In any case, the art is pretty and the music fits. Maybe just a better explanation of the rules is in order?
This is a really well executed game! You guys built a very well polished experience here. These are the best kinds of LD entries to play and I had a great time.
Things I liked: * The pixel art and animations in this game are extremely well done. Kudos to the artist, they really made this entry stand out. * Lots of polish. Things like the player's face changing as you run out of tea, the weird milk jug that refills you, and the stylized tea meter. * The music sounded good and was a great fit, and the SFX really meshed well with the animations. * The length of this game is perfect for an LD experience.
Things I would change: * The game didn't present much of a challenge to me. Though I know this can be hard to get right for the wide LD audience. * Mechanically the enemies didn't seem very different. Mostly it was just walk up to them, spend tea, and bypass. The rolling one was cool.
Great job!
I tried to play this game but I couldn't figure out how to play =(.
E appears to do nothing when highlighting any of the items on the table, the book/cauldron/flower, or the people. So I'm not sure what to do.
However, the art is very pretty! I think this game could go a lot further if the gameplay was clearer!
That song was really catchy!
This game was really hard! I managed to only kill one enemy!
Things I liked: * The fact that you added an indicator to lead you to the enemies was a good decision. It would have been painful otherwise. * The AI actually tries to heal themselves! This made the game even harder, but it was still cool that I felt like I had to chase them down. It made them more interactive for sure. * You wrote this in Rust *and* there is a web build! That's awesome and definitely not something you see in LD everyday- well done!
Things I would change: * I would prefer more enemies that are easy to kill. * Make it easier to land shots. I'm pretty good at leading targets, but I really struggled in this game. Maybe player bullets could scale with his size? * The art style is a little boring, just circles and text. The particle emitter on your shots is a cool addition though.
Had a lot of trouble finding those hearts!
Some of the SFX really made me laugh. The zombie death noise is hilarious.
