Growing platforms like this is a really interesting twist on platforming!
I did end up in a few situations where a platform got away from me and I had to restart, which was frustrating.
Fun game!

Fun game!
Fun time!
I like it! Had to restart a bunch on level 3
This game has some great polish. Art is great, music is nice. The concept was interesting but at times frustrating. I think this was mostly due to the controls being a little loose. I would have definitely liked a faster way to restart as platforms frequently got away from me. Overall it's a great entry though. Nice work!
The game was fun, I liked the retro feel and the platforms. There were a few times I was unable to move on though since a platform grew beyond my reach.
Review mine if you get a chance :D
Great game, I'm surprised it hasn't received more attention! The mechanics were innovative and the game was fun! The audio fits well with the graphics and style of the game, and it was just the right length, too! The last level seemed like a bit of a jump in difficulty, and there wasn't really a gradual buildup. While that was a slight issue, it just made it that much more rewarding when I completed the game! Great job!
Real cool game, loved the art and music. Controls were slightly difficult to get used to, definitely ran into some grow-walls more than I meant to. But a really well made, enjoyable game.
Another PICO-8 entry! Nice! I think the design is good, but I have some technical remarks.
The crush detection would probably benefit from switching to this algorithm:
Build a placeholder tilemap that copies the level data just for crush detection. Each time a wall grows, superimpose the rectangle bounds of the wall onto the tilemap as if it were tiles. Then plot the position of the player on that same tilemap. If the player is surrounded on all sides by collision, they're crushed.
I see something about an OOM bug being fixed but the game still has some performance issues. I can't see the code but there is probably a way to optimize wall drawing so that it's lighter - in general PICO-8 performs better with respect to its "virtual CPU cap" when the code uses fewer symbols to do the same thing, with the exception of function calls. Fewer function calls are better.
@triplefox Wow, thanks for the detailed feedback. Nice to see another Pico-8 creator on here. The OOM bug literally crashed Pico-8, so we fixed that, but we definitely still have some performance issues we want to work out eventually.
@silvae Thank you for the kind words! Can you expand a bit on what you mean when you say the controls felt a bit loose? Too fast? Did you not feel in control of the character enough? Platforms unpredictable? Thanks again!
@purrfexionator Thanks for the feedback on the difficulty curve. I'm glad you finished the game!
Very nice concept! I included it in my compilation video series of the Ludum Dare 42 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/YTqGyFG4tXA
This is a pretty unique and interesting game. I love how the quick growing slime keeps you moving and thinking on your feet. I will say that the controls felt a bit off. The jump felt too quick because of how fast you fall, and you only just barely jump high enough to reach certain platforms. There where a lot of times where I was trying to jump onto a slime block but wound up getting crushed from the side for some reason instead. That said, I do like the pixel art style and the music is nice too. Overall, this is a solid game that I had some fun with. Nice work!
:star: Hey, this is a very well made game! A bit hard in my opinion.

Cool game I really liked it ! The plateform mechanic is very well thought (I would've used an visual indicator to help the player know in which the plateform is going to grow though). Other than that, the audio was nice too ^^
Interesting concept! The growth mechanic was very satisfying to play around with. I noticed there were a few places you could use platforms to go much higher than their intended range, perhaps including growth limits on the platforms would improve the level design?
kinda hard but really fun also nice graphics
Really enjoyed the gameplay, art, and music. It reminded me of the style of classic NES games that I loved as a kid. As others mentioned, I would've liked to be able restart a level instead of the whole game when stuck. And in terms of gameplay, I felt the falling speed was a bit too fast compared to the more floaty jumping-up motion, which made the motion feel unbalanced. All in all, this was a well-polished, fun entry. Great job!
it is a cool mechanic, and the game started off really strong. level 3 was difficult to do because of how easily the block grew away from me. I think the game would benefit from the blocks only growing when you're on top of them. The char was a little hard to control at times. But over all a strong foundation and I enjoyed playing it. Thank you!
I really liked this, but I ran into a couple problems. I didn't see the option to restart on the pause menu at all. I think it would be nice to have some indicator on how each block of slime will grow. Otherwise I really liked it, well done!
The color palette is nice! I loved the music. A few times I had to restart because the block started growing and I got stuck because I couldn't reach it. Would be nice if the blocks back to their original size somehow because restarting from level one is a little bit annoying. Good job! I enjoyed it! (ノ・∀・)ノ
-( BTW ) We also have an entry if you want to play it and rate it
this was very enjoyable - it did have some glitches which is understandable - i think this is a good mechanic to explore - thanks for making it
