LD42 — Running out of space

Get Comfortable by mcccclean 2018-08-14T02:41:35Z

Awesome to see another Pico-8 game on here. This is awesome! So neat that you didn't just have the player create connections, but you named certain poses. Love this one!

Urban Planning by reuno 2018-08-14T02:20:12Z

Really neat game. The camera was a little weird. I felt like it didn't always show me what I wanted to see (vague, I know). It felt really good to shoot those houses, but it was difficult to tell if I was hitting the slimes or not.

There is Never Enough Space!!! by Jamie Rollo 2018-08-14T02:00:35Z

Love the art and microgame style. The second level was way tougher than the ones following it imo. Could have used some sound effects, but overall really cool game. These could've easily been in WarioWare Touched.

Beat These Games! by gamesplusjames 2018-08-14T02:37:13Z

Neat idea. Love microgame collections like this. I did run into an issue where on the acid level, I jumped over the flag and the acid continued to rise forever so I had to quit the game.

Valdi: Shadows by beepyeah 2018-08-16T04:09:28Z

I loved this game. Very interesting puzzles. As others have stated, you could probably reorder the levels. I would also recommend having an instructions screen before the first level starts. I got stuck on level 4 because I didn't quite understand all the mechanics until I happened to read the description below the game. I really enjoyed it though. Loved the sprite for the player.

I did run into a weird bug. I beat the game and decided to try to run through it again. I got to level 5 and some weird stuff started happening. As I walked through the level, random tiles started falling even though I hadn't stepped on them yet, so I couldn't complete a second run-through. You can see it happening below:

However, it is a testament to the game that I completed it and even wanted to play through it again. Great job!

Will Survive by foxserranu 2018-08-14T01:35:18Z

I pretty much have to echo @memel06 's comments as they summed it up pretty well. Amazing art! I like the music, but it doesn't feel like it fits the game. I am frantically trying to cut wood to throw into the fire, but the chill piano make me feel like I need to be sitting and roasting marshmallows. I made it to 3:43 before I died.

Crushed by Rusty Bailey 2018-08-14T02:46:56Z

@triplefox Wow, thanks for the detailed feedback. Nice to see another Pico-8 creator on here. The OOM bug literally crashed Pico-8, so we fixed that, but we definitely still have some performance issues we want to work out eventually.

Crushed by Rusty Bailey 2018-08-14T04:41:22Z

@silvae Thank you for the kind words! Can you expand a bit on what you mean when you say the controls felt a bit loose? Too fast? Did you not feel in control of the character enough? Platforms unpredictable? Thanks again!

Crushed by Rusty Bailey 2018-08-14T04:42:23Z

@purrfexionator Thanks for the feedback on the difficulty curve. I'm glad you finished the game!

Orenji-Shima - Orange Jelly Puzzle Island by Tekugare 2018-08-24T02:06:29Z

I really liked this one. Art was great and the sound effects were satisfying. My only complaints: 1. It would have been nice to have some type of acknowledgment that you finished the game; 2. I would have been cool to automatically restart the puzzle if you reached a point where you couldn't move anywhere. See https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/valdi-shadows for a very similar game that includes that concept.

Slime Running. by SadDayStudio 2018-08-14T02:31:51Z

Neat concept. Gamepad support would have been nice, but otherwise cool idea. Fit the theme perfectly.

ChromeStuck by Inferture 2018-08-24T01:44:32Z

Big plus for being playable in the browser with a gamepad. However, the control scheme was very difficult and abnormal. I would recommend moving ship rotation to the right stick. I had to do some weird acrobatics to rotate and shoot at the same time. The concept was neat though.

Void Incoming by Purrfexionator 2018-08-24T01:37:32Z

I thought this was really well done! Simple idea, and an impressive amount of levels. The boss fight at the end was a cool surprise. My only complaint is the hitbox on the player seemed wonky. Sometimes I was blocked by a cannon or something when visually the player wasn't even touching the cannon. Otherwise, though, I enjoyed it.

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

MineWell by superpokeunicorn 2021-05-04T00:21:50Z

Awesome game! It's super polished and I love the animations!

DEEper by Devastus 2021-04-28T21:46:32Z

Hilarious game! I think it would've been nice for the game to start at a quicker running speed. Maybe just personal preference, but it felt kind of slow. Otherwise, very fun and funny game.

Earigator by alec 2021-04-27T21:24:10Z

The music was fantastic! At first it wasn't entirely clear I needed to press a button to remove the q-tip from the ear, but once I figured that out, it was a lot of fun. Hilarious concept!

Just Thinking by albertnez 2021-04-27T21:06:40Z

This was nice. The splash animation at the beginning was cool and the music complemented the contemplative mood. If I could give any feedback, I would say it would've been nice to have more clicks with choices instead of just progressing the internal monologue, but I understand that is just more work/writing. Otherwise, great job on this. After two runs, it's clear that I need to call my friends. :stuck_out_tongue:

Unpaid Serenade for Future Solution Group [2026 eCon Grief/Heartbreak Singalong] by Sand-Gardeners 2021-05-03T21:05:31Z

That was so bizarre and I loved it.

Deep Space 99 by CG_Fred 2021-04-29T20:58:26Z

Loved the mouth sfx. Graphics looked great and it was fun to play. I would suggest some tighter controls next time. It was tough to turn and it would've been nice to be able to go backwards or strafe. Great job on this!

Love's a Mystery by Bamallama 2021-04-29T21:18:52Z

Always nice to find a VN in a jam. This one definitely had some unexpected twists and turns and I loved the cliffhanger. I hope you continue the story; it was cool.

Deep down the asteroid by FrauKauz 2021-04-28T21:25:11Z

The character animations were cool. I liked the squid things. Navigating was a bit annoying because you would fall off a block when your body was halfway off. Obviously it could do with some sound. But for what it is, it is pretty cool.

Asteroid Breaker by GibsS 2021-04-27T21:16:18Z

The art style was very clean which was nice. I liked how the gems weren't a scoring mechanism as I originally expected, but actually served as currency for an upgrade between levels. I think one thing that could make it better is to somehow make it more clear what direction the position of your cursor will create (maybe an arrow pointing from the drill to the cursor or line connecting the drill and cursor). It was a lot of fun though!

Super Mole Bro by simon.parzer 2021-04-28T21:56:15Z

The pixel art is great. Love the animations and the background for the beginning area is great. I wish there was a way to have checkpoints or something because it kind of stinks having to go all the way back to the top when you've made a lot of progress. Otherwise, though, you did a great job!

CRASH Pit by E.E-Wick 2021-04-28T13:09:34Z

For a while, I thought the game might be endless, but I finally beat it. Very well done. The controls feel great and the upgrade system adds a lot. Because you start with so little, it is very addicting to keep trying again. It feels very well balanced too. Great job!

Drill Cave by Ryder Studios 2021-04-28T21:35:57Z

I loved this art style! Very chill and the music complemented it well. Once I got the hang of it, the drill mechanic was cool. However, it would've been nice if there weren't any areas where you got stuck. It's nice that a restart feature is built in, but it turns the levels into a trial and error kind of approach for the player. I think as a simple improvement, I would just put spikes wherever a player could get stuck. That way they die instead of getting frustrated and having to restart and it becomes a smoother experience and faster gameplay loop. Great job on this!

Hyperspace Narwhale by styrofoamwaffle 2021-04-29T21:23:43Z

The background music is exactly what I would listen to in the background while working. Also love the design of the whale.

Jewellery Journey by Niall_Chandler 2021-05-03T20:45:56Z

That was so stressful and difficult, lol. I finished though! The water physics are well done and I didn't ever feel like it was unfair. Art style is really great too!
