As usual, an incredibly polished game Fred!! This is amazing, gameplay feels really smooth, SFX are top notch, amazing work, I just don't understand how you make such polished games haha. Congrats!! Amazing entry!

warxen 2021-04-27 11:28

Alex here, nice work Fred! Short and simple game with easy to understand objectives. The last level was quite hard, but eventually got it. Can get quite hectic really fast when multiple ships are firing at once.

cogcomp 2021-04-27 18:58

Looks great! Exciting music and lasers what more do you need! Well done!

azagaya 2021-04-27 20:11

Great game! I love that the music changed between combat and safe moments. Great graphics and style. Simple but challenging gameplay. Congrats!

weirdybeardyman 2021-04-27 21:08

Nice little game. I like the dynamic music and the audio was good. Nice clean graphics, good difficulty and a decent amount of gameplay. The lasers felt really satisfying to use, though I felt like the ship steering felt a little sticky at times.

qorthos 2021-04-27 21:56

Fun! Also the music is **FIRE**.

jesterseraph 2021-04-28 05:03

Hey Fred! I don't know why you didn't include audio or humour in your ratings because it was my friend's and my absolute favourite so far for humour! Between the silly lines of the dialogue and the sound effects all being various mouth sounds, we couldn't stop laughing and smiling while playing. It constantly kept us entertained in the best of ways. Throughout the game we kept noticing more and more sound effects that would make us laugh all over again. They were especially good in that it took a few seconds of listening closely to realize they were actually sound effects of a person literally making the sounds out loud.

As for the other aspects of the game, it was simple but fun! It didn't feel too long, and one of the biggest compliments from my friend was "a lot of these 3D games have really clunky, unresponsive, or subpar controls to movement, but in this game the ship moves exactly as I want it to and feels great." The use of the theme and innovation weren't groundbreaking, but not all games need to be innovative and the theme isn't the most important part in my eyes anyway. It's just a jumping off point for inspiration.

Overall really good job!

Wow so many nice comments! Thanks @webox that really warms my heart to read that :D The SFX was made rather quickly mostly my own voice with just a mic and some filters.

@warxen Thank you so much.

@cogcomp Ohh yeah LAZERS is all you need, well maybe sharks with Lazers but that will be in the 2.0 version :)

@azagaya Thanks for playing and super glad that you liked it.

@weirdybeardyman I always wanted to try a bit of dynamic music and this was a perfect time for it, glad that you liked it.

@qorthos Thanks! I can't take credit for the music as it was the only asset that was not made by me.

@jesterseraph Wow thanks a lot for playing the game so much and sharing your story. Super glad that you had so much fun with it. I opted out of Audio because I didn't make the music myself so it didn't feel right. Humor was opted out by accident when I submitted the game at 2 am in the morning ;) I had a lot of fun making the sound effects and I recommend everyone to do that because it's fun both to create and for the people playing. Had another game jam where I hummed the Zelda tune in the background as music and people loved that part. I had a lot grander plans for the innovation but as per usual it was waaaay over scoped so this was my plan C. That is why the fuel doesn't really matter in the game. The initial idea was more of a rogue lite game where you had to collect scraps and visit space stations with the ability to get missions and trade.

evil-villain-games 2021-04-29 20:45

Wow! This is impressive. It really felt like a full experience, great VFX,Models,Sound,Dialogue. I really like the voxel art in general. It felt very tron like and I think the lines were a great way to direct the player. Combat was fun!

inappropriatename 2021-04-29 20:46

Sound effects were a nice touch, Good job on the game!

skiddings 2021-04-29 20:47

Fun little game

bamallama 2021-04-29 20:52

Wow, such a fun game! My biggest complaint is that the controls felt a touch heavy (sometimes it felt near impossible to turn fast enough).

If you add in a lot of the roguelite elements that you planned to add in, I could see this being a seriously cool game.

rusty-bailey 2021-04-29 20:58

Loved the mouth sfx. Graphics looked great and it was fun to play. I would suggest some tighter controls next time. It was tough to turn and it would've been nice to be able to go backwards or strafe. Great job on this!

dergamer 2021-04-29 21:01

Great Game, I really like the music and the overall look of the game, but most the time I was not able to shake the rockets of in time, because the were so fast an if I tried to turn and shot the rockets it took so long, but apart from that it is fun to play

plomeg 2021-04-29 21:01

It seems the game was updated, could you add details on what changed from initial entry ? I enjoyed the game, but I had to download it because the framerate was a bit low in browser. Dodging and shooting the missiles was the part I liked the most because it made me feel immersed in the game somehow.

There is a "BackUpThisFolder_ButDontShipItWithYourGame" folder in the download :D

quinn-patrick 2021-04-29 21:04

This is really good! The graphics are stylish, the dogfights are intense, and the challenge is about right (once you realize that enemies can spawn behind you at the start of the level). Also the dynamic music is really cool, even if it wasn't made during the jam. I think the fuel gauge is definitely unnecessary, I never even came close to running out. It's also a little weird that there are only stars underneath, like you're on top of space?

verygenuinecraze 2021-04-29 21:39

Very fun game! The visuals are good and the controls are nice. Maybe add more weapons to add more depth to the gameplay. Good work

villanelle 2021-04-30 01:54

The music was too loud but the models are very well made and the controls are polished. Perhaps you should add a volume control option. Nice entry overall.

cg-fred 2021-04-30 14:24

Holy crap, so many awesome comments! Thanks everyone :)

@evil-villain-games Thanks! Yeah, I wanted it to be kind of clear for the player where to go. At first I didn't have them and often got lost myself even if I knew where the energy sources was supposed to be.

@inappropriatename & @skiddings thanks!

@bamallama yeah I agree with that. Maybe sometime in the future I'll come back to this project and then the first thing to add would be roguelite elements.

@rusty-bailey thanks! The mouth SFX was my last resort as I was running out of time, glad that they turned out as good as they did and I think it adds a little personality to the game.

@dergamer balancing wasn't something I had time for sadly but yeah it was a bit hard to loose incoming missiles. I had an idea to be able to drop some decoy but time ran out.

@plomeg the only update was adding a PC download version for the ones who had issues with framerates on the HTML5 build. Ahh yes, that folder is gone now, thanks for the heads up :)

@quinn-patrick thank you! Yeah the fuel gauge has zero impact on the game. The original plan was that you would venture out into deep space and then defeat enemies and mine asteroids and then return to your mothership where you could buy fuel and upgrade with your ship with larger fuel tanks and such. But scope was waaaay to big so cut it down but left the gauge in the game, last minute I also had to figure out what should happen if you run out of fuel so just did a quick ugly you'll blow up solution :) The reason why the stars are below you is that the game was supposed to be top down. With like 12 hours left I changed it to a chase camera view instead! Here is how it looked before that change

LD48_2021-04-26_00-42-16.png

@verygenuinecraze & @villanelle thanks! Yeah if I come back to this project then I would defiantly do that.

marc-jones 2021-04-30 18:19

A really polished entry. The flight and shooting mechanics felt very satisfying, especially swinging around and destroying the missiles which were following you. A little more variety in terms of weapons and enemies would have elevated it, as would indicators showing where the nearest missiles were if they were off screen. I really enjoyed it.

xiuyuan 2021-05-01 14:09

Great game, really nicely done. Has a nice feel and I would like to play more. I actually found it super hard to defeat the rocket-firing enemies, maybe I couldn't figure out the right tactic to deal with them!

itooh 2021-05-14 16:11

The air fighting feels a bit clumsy, but in the end it procures great sensation. I'm not sure if the heat limit is necessary though. The combats are difficult enough as they are, having the shooting restricted is mostly annoying. I think I was able to reach the last level (the one with 6 enemies), but couldn't beat it. It was still quite nice!

zubspace 2021-05-15 14:29

Wow, this was great! Lot's of action! The dog fighting is really intense. My kids an me did not make it through the third level but hey, we had lots of fun!

I like the minecrafty ships, the music fits perfectly and the explosions are great. You introduced the story very well.

The only gripe: Too many torpedos. But hey, maybe I just need to practice more :)

Good job overall!
