Controlling the ship is very fun and most upgrades are super exiting! I didn't get any bug besides some weird audio overlap. The only thing I did't like is that the menu and the levels looked a bit rough compared to the enemies and the ship.

Really polished and smooth, the upgrade screen could maybe have showed more information at once, but its perfectly functional.

pretty insane(in a good way) game tbh

gnaro 2021-04-27 20:05

Core gameplay is awesome, I love it!

peter-jonsson 2021-04-27 20:10

I love the fast-paced action, but I think that there is a delay between clicking the mouse and bullets being fired. This might be intentional, but I would love some visual queue that my click was registered. I found myself spamming the left mouse button while trying to avoid everything else - hectic but fun!

Super frantic and addictive !! Amazing job!

luke-frisbee 2021-04-27 20:56

Really clean game, super well made! A bit frustrating to play at first, but once you get a hang of the controls it's really fun to play!

okamit 2021-04-28 00:58

Really neat take on the genre, i like the upgrade system and the clean graphics.

Great work!

jordan-ottesen 2021-04-28 00:58

I dig it. The controls didn't take me too long to figure out and the upgrades are a nice touch. The music occasionally got a little repetitive, but that's such a small part of the game. Overall, cool submission!

totteriludum 2021-04-28 01:03

Certain mechanics are very satisfying, such as the combat effects. Very high level of polish! Well done!

guimoliveira 2021-04-28 01:09

Really nice game. Good job!

junamai 2021-04-28 01:11

Awesome game! Really addicting haha..ended up playing for a looong time xD

morrilet 2021-04-28 01:23

This game has some real style to it. It looks great, and the mechanics are simple yet very fun. I love the sluggish, fighting-gravity way in which you move. I think my biggest gripe with this is that the shop is so spread out - it's tough to know what's available when you have to scroll to the next page for every item. Outside of that the game feels well balanced and genuinely entertaining. The price curve is on point, too. Great work!

Love it. Controls are really nice, feels novel for a game like this. Everything has such nice feedback and feels really responsive, the really clean animations, feedback from sound effects, screenshake, altogether create a really satisfying feeling of just moving around. The upgrades were really fun too, it makes it feel completely not frustrating to die and start over at the top again, and its fun adapting to different movement patterns for different weapon setups. The fast shooting left click hold gun was my favorite, the sound fx of it shooting are really satisfying. I got to the end with max damage, tracking and shooting speed, then fully upgraded everything and it became much harder with the extra base speed. I also really liked the little tips when I died "you can die from your own explosions if it wasn't obvious". I wouldn't have noticed otherwise. one small issue I ran into on the web build was a bit of lag entering the shop after I died, sometimes I would end up hitting R repeatedly, and sometimes that would skip the shop before I could buy something. Congrats! Great job!

**+** fun

**+** satisfying sounds

**+** upgrade screen drum loop

**-** upgrade screen slow to navigate

**-** explosions last too long

**-** seems to freeze on scene change

quinn-patrick 2021-04-28 01:31

Bravo! This game is a triumph, so much fun and polished to a shine. My biggest complaint is that the shop and game scenes take a while to load, and it seems like there should be no reason for that in such a simple game. More of a nitpick is that some of the upgrades seem like traps. A bomb that only fires when I let go of the mouse button? But why would I do that when my best offensive tool is firing a steady stream of bullets by never letting go of the mouse button? That's just some stuff to think about when you work more on this game and release it on more platforms, which you absolutely should do because it's great.

:heavy_check_mark: **It's as if Luftrausers and Downwell had a son!** And I mean it in the best possible way :)

Amazing gameplay, really polished and **smooth**. Whenever you die you really feel like it was your fault, you simply could've done better, it's not unfair at all.

The **missiles** upgrade is super fun, a great risk-reward mechanic!

:x: I was very confused during the first runs because I had seen your gif and I assumed you could shoot from the get-go.

The upgrades are not sorted by cost, so it's easy to think you don't have enough money to buy anything when there's actually something cheaper down the list that you can buy.

Controls are hard af

jonathan-turner 2021-04-28 03:14

Very cool project.

I didnt think I would play it as long as I did, but the upgrade mechanic really kept bringing me back. Powerful feedback loop there being able to earn upgrades.

The controls of the plane were easy to understand satisfying. I liked the different shooting options on the mouse, all very easy to track.

The sounds were good. Some background music would have been cool.

Nice work!

e-e-wick 2021-04-28 03:22

@train27 Thanks! The inspiration was almost coincidental, I was inspired by Downwell but later on I was like “hey, this is a lot like that one vlambeer game”. Also just to reply to something lots of people have said, the upgrade menu is pretty bad ngl I kind of just threw it together knowing very well that I could’ve done it in a lot better ways.

e-e-wick 2021-04-28 03:33

@quinn-patrick Glad you enjoyed it. I was going to look into the long room loading time since it seems like a pretty common issue, I probably just goofed up somewhere. I’ll hopefully have that fixed once I decide to fix things in the game.

Also, maybe I’m just a supervillain or something but I kind of left in somewhat bad or pointless upgrades either just as things to mess around with or to see how people think that those things could’ve been improved on. I originally had a 2x and 3x speed upgrade that made the game almost unplayable just for laughs but decided that was too evil.

Most fun game of the jam so far, I wanted to keep restarting because I always felt like I could do better next time. I really appreciated that it gets some of the simple things right, like particles and sound effects. There is a nice balance between missiles destroying other planes, and you having to avoid their blasts. I really enjoy movement based builds in games, and I had a good time getting all of the movement upgrades and weaving around. Kind of a mix of Downwell and Luftrausers. It's usually better to not allow mouse or key events that have no cooldown, as it might cause people to stress their hands. I'd love to see a simple roll animation as the plane moves back and forth for some additional dyanmism.

rusty-bailey 2021-04-28 13:09

For a while, I thought the game might be endless, but I finally beat it. Very well done. The controls feel great and the upgrade system adds a lot. Because you start with so little, it is very addicting to keep trying again. It feels very well balanced too. Great job!

srrinio 2021-04-28 14:31

Great game, the audio an graphics are really goot together, but with game design, some upgrades make de game harder than before, like the nuke, and the standard bullet could shot with auto fire :v

ismael-rodriguez 2021-05-12 23:38

Very cool game. I love the simple style, the sounds and presentation feel very good. (Web version has some lag time between play, and buy menu, not sure about exe).

I never got very far down, so I slowly got enough points to buy some upgrades.

I like the idea of the upgrade system. Even the lowest skill players (me) can brute force progress... But my progress was very slow because I just sucked at moving downward (or surviving in general). I wish there were more abilities I could buy sooner, especially the more fun stuff like shooting and shooting upgrades.

It seems the upgrades are supposed to help me get further but...

Shooting enemies with rockets and bombs creates an explosion that lingers and can kill the player, which isn't very fun when you have to travel in the direction the rocket is fired in (very quickly). I kind of regret even buying the rockets. Maybe consider an upgrade that lets you survive explosions?

This is probably a jam time limit issue, but if there were more visible buy-items on the list (instead of 1 at a time), that would be a nice quality of life upgrade.

Overall, it's very fun to play, with great presentation, good juicy feel. Good job!
