Was an awesome little game. cute charakter and great sounds for the athmosphere. Good work. The terrain graphics, were for my opinion, acceptable.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD44 → Slotbot Arena

Nice game. I liked the idea behind swapping bodies and becoming the powerful enemy you were afraid to defeat. I died at the last stage because I had no energy left while being in this strong monster and had to swap bodies because I had almost no health and then there were two of them? The art and animation of the game is very consistent and well made. Every enemy is unique and I like how they become consistently stronger. You really feel how you become more and more powerful over the stages. Good job :)
Apreciate it! I know there's some issue with the "rapidly press space" mechanic, but I ran out of time. I would've really liked to balance the game more. It's hard doing it solo!
Just played your game and unfortunately I was only able beat level 1 once! The purple guys do a ton of damage, have a lot of health, and you have to get in really close in order for your bullets to hurt them!
I really like the idea of body swapping to "upgrade" yourself, but I wasn't able to do it very often due to the difficulty. I'm not sure if I was playing wrong?
Running out of power and having to play a little mini-game (albeit just simple tapping) is a really interesting mechanic though!
Managed to get to the last level but couldn't handle those big enemies. I found the art and animations pretty cute and thought it was cool to be able to swap and play as all the enemies too. I wish I could shoot in the direction of my mouse, as it made it much harder to avoid and aim at the same time, but maybe this was in order to make it harder. Thanks for sharing your game!
That was really fun. I liked the character designs and thought that the body switching mechanic was interesting. I noticed that the large circle bot's projectiles were off centered from the character. overall, great job.
@trozen i'm sorry you couldn't get past stage 1. I didn't want it to be that difficult, but I ran out of time and honestly I focused too much on art and presentation that I lost out on improving core mechanics. I really would've like to balance it more. You weren't playing it wrong, it's just overly difficult :joy:
@schmavery Great job! I haven't even been able to do that :joy:. I considered that mechanic with shooting in the direction of the mouse, but unfortunately the way I programmed it made it difficult to shoehorn that idea in later in the game jam. This is just a lesson learned for me, I need to have my design more well thought out before I start writing code.
@sherlock527 I must've gotten lazy and forgot to make sure the generation point for the bullet was in the center. Thanks for pointing it out.
Glad you all enjoyed it
I liked the extenge body mechanics. Think that I see it on LD43 too
Oh god its so hard, i always either die from rushing or turn into a plane from running out of time aaaa xD
If it was a little easier to start with and maybe ramps up to super hard (if that is the point of the game)
I think id enjoy it a lot more
Good job anyway :)
Agreed it's hard @jofersgames lol. Next time around I want to work with a team so I can offload the art to someone else and I can focus more on balancing. Appreciate the feedback!
It was little bit hard to grasp both the body exchange and coin generation, I feel like just one of those would be enough for a game. But otherwise cool little game.
@listonos that's fair. 2 mechanics is probably too many. Still learning! But I also think if I had time to refine those mechanics it would've been a better experience. Thanks spent a little too much time on the art and the game as a whole (title screen, credits, tutorial).
Time for my in-depth and all-important review. We'll do it sandwich style.
I like the music choice, and the enemy sprites are pretty dope!
Couldn't use mouse to select main menu options, however, mouse button is used to shoot?
mouse button to shoot while having your body determine the direction of the shot is strange. If using mouse is needed, might as well have 360 aiming, so that this becomes more of a dual stick shooter.
Coins can only be generated when you have no energy? My strategy ended up being running to a corner, running out of energy, and then spamming spacebar until I had 5-6 coins to finish the level without worrying about energy.
The energy bar and health bar being the same colors made things a bit confusing.
No pause button?
Becoming the big guy had more disadvantages than advantages. Each coin only gave like 30% of the energy bar back, so I was super unprepared as far as number of coins I had. And his health seemed very low compared to his size. His only benefit is the DPS, but his large size, energy consumption and low health will make me stay away from him probably.
But, I really like the concept of switching bodies, especially when it means your character becoming stronger. I would also explore the possibility of adding like a little tiny robot brain that operates the robots, and when you robot is destroyed, you have a chance to run to a different body instead of losing right away. Another option would be to downgrade your robot to a lower version with each death.
So ye, all in all I liked it!
