LD42 — Running out of space

Raiders of the Lost Beer by sawtan 2018-08-13T19:18:26Z

Nice game, Simple enough to understand in seconds, would be nice if you added more enemies :) Sometimes the movement powerup spawned at the very edge of a platform and made me fall off. Otherwise a great spin on the theme and a nice style :)

PlaceIt by farfadet46 2018-08-13T14:22:30Z

The game has a run time of about 15 seconds. That is after you find out what the game wants from you. As an English speaker, I can say that if the game just throws text at you in a foreign language it isn't much fun trying to find out what is happening. After I found out what was going on the game felt a bit lacking in the.. well... fun aspect. You are thrown into a room with the only thing to do is pick a seat. There seems to only be 1 or 2 left and after you pick a free seat you win, You get an abstract point and you can play again.

Warp Tunnel by TheMonsterFromTheDeep 2018-08-13T17:56:53Z

Cool game, restricting player movement is adequately explained. Loved the retro style and the linear difficulty increase (Each level a new enemy) The overall mystery to the story was nice, loved playing it!

Flesh Packer by nervous-composers 2018-08-14T05:19:08Z

Maybe flag the game potentially disturbing?

Memory by Gnarly Narwhal 2018-08-13T18:07:26Z

Can't run the game :/

Beat These Games! by gamesplusjames 2018-08-15T13:08:55Z

A great, fast paced and fun game! Came from Elysia!

Rainforest by SimoGecko 2018-08-13T18:17:00Z

A great game, but the audio portion was a bit lacking. Probably the best graphics I have seen this jam.

Grid Locked by DrunkardWolf 2018-08-13T14:57:51Z

A very solid game, fun to play, satisfying to kill the enemies. My only complaint is that it is a bit hard to aim properly at the enemies because of the weird camera FOV or something (They get more stretched out and distorted at the edges) Otherwise a VERY great entry :) Congrats!

BoxedIn by jepdraper 2018-08-13T18:10:21Z

The game files are incorrect, belong to a different game.

BoxedIn by jepdraper 2018-08-13T19:43:38Z

You probably forgot to lock the player's rotation because when I bump into stuff the character spins out and becomes uncontrollable. Otherwise a nice concept.

Tetris with Physics by gord10ahmet 2018-08-13T17:43:10Z

A relaxing piece. I played both modes but felt the easy mode is not that much of a challenge and can be cleared easily. The hard mode, on the other hand, is perfect for this theme. The mood of the game relaxes you but when things start filling up it gets quite hectic. Great work!

LectureRush by FooMar 2018-08-14T17:40:22Z

A fun game definitely. I had a lot of problem with the multi tasking. Maybe if you didn't need to seat them after telling them to go sit down it would be a bit less all over the place. Otherwise I really enjoyed! Good job!

Limited Space Cruiser by Sylver_Kovy 2018-08-14T09:50:07Z

The game is short, a little too short. Even if you just made a few more levels it would elevate the experience a lot. The concept is not within the theme at least as I got it - Avoid the balls. Green and red balls do the same thing, kill you almost instantly. The game can be easily won just by driving off to the side and not caring about anything.

Overall a solid first game and I must say a good job.

What was the reverse talking btw? :)

Limited Space Cruiser by Sylver_Kovy 2018-08-14T10:01:53Z

You know that for you to get ratings you should rate other games right? Because it seems like you don't have any karma or ratings given, which decreases the likelihood of someone finding your game.

A New Kingdom by 2lol555 2018-08-13T14:49:23Z

@dylanbr What do you mean? Could you please explain your problem in more detail?

A New Kingdom by 2lol555 2018-08-13T15:05:49Z

@dylanbr I cannot seem to see why that would happen :( The game should run consistently on all HTML5 enabled browsers no matter what OS. It has so far worked on 7 PCs tested with 3 different browsers including Chrome, Opera, and Mozilla. Check if the issue is not on your end. Maybe a program altering input?

A New Kingdom by 2lol555 2018-08-13T15:08:05Z

Thanks, for the feedback @cannonperson :) I can adjust it a bit. The reason for the quick slingshot effect on the lava is to push the urgency and the "Running out of space" aspect of the game. When the slingshot was not in place, the player quickly outran the lava and it was nowhere in sight.

A New Kingdom by 2lol555 2018-08-13T15:18:07Z

@trozen Living there of course :D

Thanks for the feedback :)

A New Kingdom by 2lol555 2018-08-13T15:20:21Z

@drunkardwolf Thanks for the feedback :) If you notice, the lava slows down when it gets close. This also stops the point counter up in the corner. When the fast sling effect is applied, the points add up faster in return.

A New Kingdom by 2lol555 2018-08-13T15:21:25Z

Good job sorting it out @dylanbr :)

A New Kingdom by 2lol555 2018-08-13T15:34:15Z

@antti-haavikko Thanks for the extensive feedback. The baby jumps are a bit of an issue I tried fixing time and time again but it still kept on appearing. I think unity has some weird way of handling Forces applied to an object on the frame it stopped. The current behavior is as if the player had not stopped on the moment the jump was applied even though I am checking for Y movement in the code. With my limited skills, I just scrapped fixing this bug and moved on to other aspects of polishing.

I also added arrow key alt options (Will upload shortly), even though it won't be displayed in the intro tutorial because WaSPie had to leave already.

Thanks for the awesome feedback!

A New Kingdom by 2lol555 2018-08-13T15:35:14Z

@dylanbr The S key should help you a lot with your problem :)

A New Kingdom by 2lol555 2018-08-13T16:52:05Z

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

@antti-haavikko Thanks, added it and it reduced the small jumps drastically but one or two sometimes appear.

@tybantarnusa Thanks for taking the time to get further in the game :) I hopefully reduced the small jumps in the newest update.

@ngupsilon Added a 1.5 second delay before lava starts rising.

A New Kingdom by 2lol555 2018-08-13T18:25:00Z

@gord10ahmet No. Unfortunately when I try to rewrite the code to check on fixed update something just does not work right. Sometimes the player just stays glued to the platform which does not happen when using Update. I think it might just be some sloppy programming on my part but I don't have enough time to fix it now :(

Thanks for the feedback though :)

A New Kingdom by 2lol555 2018-08-13T19:06:57Z

Thanks to all the movement feedback you guys provided!

I have made the down key (Fall faster) a lot less mandatory to use. The player now starts falling faster and feels less floaty but if you need a higher jump you need to hold down the jump key!

(Uploading in the next few minutes)

Thanks for playing our game everyone!

@corbak Thanks, the main goal we had set in mind was to make an enjoyable experience, and the theme was one of those that didn't hit home very well... We had a bit of trouble thinking of something and settled on this because it was simple to execute but pushed us as we are both beginners to game making.

@yulia Thanks for playing!

@l-s I'm glad you found it addicting!

@batlordz Thanks for the comment!

@zicboy Thanks for spending the time!

@awix Thanks for the feedback. Yes definitely, the music was basically my first attempt to make something for a game. I will try and get better at it!

@guladam Yes that was a thought I had too but didn't really know where to start. Now I may have a way in mind but it is after the deadline so I cannot change the game further. Definitely, something I will look into when I make the first patch after review period is over. Thanks for playing!

One more thank you to everyone who had the time and played our game!

Globulator by Corbak 2018-08-13T19:30:03Z

The game looks great and the concept is awesome. A truly Great Game!

Comfort Zone by radow 2018-08-15T18:14:55Z

Cool game, nice concept. Really loved the idea that it is not physical space only discomfort around people.

Great job!

Claustrophobia by Jack Hipson 2018-08-13T14:40:49Z

A nice and simple game that accomplishes the theme perfectly. Nice and sharp graphics, more and more challenging the longer you play overall a nice game.

11042 by abvadabra 2018-08-14T09:59:06Z

Navigation throughout the ship is pretty unintuitive and the gameplay is not explained very well, but the creepy mood of the game makes up for some of these small flaws. Liked the idea, but I wish the sickness spread a bit more, giving the sense of urgency.

Good job nevertheless.

Burnout by PapriGames 2018-08-13T17:47:49Z

A nice game overall plays with a claustrophobic concept. Liked, had a nice oddly relaxing music to it.

The controls feel slidey and a bit unresponsive especially due to the fact that as soon as you touch a wall you get reset to the start. If the controls had a bit more authority to them It would make a huge difference.

Nice game though!

The Gauntlet by angelofdeath1000 2018-08-13T15:50:32Z

Definitely challenging! Sometimes the movement felt a bit disorienting. Maybe turning up the FOV slightly would be nice. Otherwise, a great game, have not found any glitches or anything super distracting. Great concept and execution. Loved it!

Penguin Voyage by guladam 2018-08-13T19:37:31Z

Great sense of humor on the intro, Couldn't get very far because of how the trajectory is displayed. I kept running off to space every jump except a few. The art style is perfect and the concept too but maybe make it a bit more "Arcade-like". Great job!

Claustrophobia by ngUpsiLoN 2018-08-13T16:14:00Z

Nice concept. It has a unique way of losing. Loved the simplicity, graphics and overall everything about the game. A nice touch would be a display of your final score at the end or even just a high score label on the main menu.

This was one of the best games I played in the Jam :)

Leaving Room by LastLeaf 2018-08-13T18:34:17Z

Amazing storytelling! Great use of the theme :) Loved it!

POP! Save Person McPersonFace by SixBeeps 2018-08-13T16:04:35Z

I got motion sickness from playing around a few minutes but here is my opinion on the few minutes I spent in the game.

I immediately got the controls wrong as soon as I started. I feel like left and right (A, D) are inverted. My brain kept kicking in with skills from GTA and other games about how to properly reverse and go forward but it was always wrong when I didn't concentrate on the gameplay. When I did concentrate it was a bit better but that increased the motion sickness factor massively.

The graphics are simple and get the point of the game across. I would suggest maybe binding the action buttons to the user's keyboard and letting them keep their hands off the mouse.

Otherwise, it was a great concept.

BugStorm by leon75 2018-08-13T14:32:35Z

Nicely done, the base concept is pretty well layed out. Unfortunately some base mechanics of the game were broken for me. For example I could not figure out how to obtain more currency to buy stuff. I assumed at first that I would get some by killing the bugs that were flying my way but that did not drop any. I played around with all of the spawnable objects and after 5 minutes I figured out that I needed to click on them and then right click to make them move. They got swarmed by the bugs and killed instantly. Some form of on screen tutorial would fit nicely, even if it were just a basic text box to read at the start.

Don't have a controller, sorry :( Would love to play though

Rigid Flame by Teo Miklethun 2018-08-13T16:42:05Z

The BEST game I have reviewed on this jam! I have nothing against. It has smooth controls and a simple concept. Love it!
