I think the graphics and sounds for the game were quite good, but the gameplay was lacking. It could have done with some more puzzle type challenges. But well done, some good effort must have gone into this game!
Fun little game. Very interesting gameplay, having to play against yourself. The graphics were great, and you've managed to capture the mood really well.
Very visually attractive game! The destruction is entertaining! Controls are initially a bit confusing though. Well done.
Excellent game! The best I've seen so far! Took a long time to play through, which is good, and the graphics and sounds were very attractive. Very well done.
So cute! Really good mood in this game. I love the pixelated graphics and the cat sounds are cute. Gameplay was a bit one-dimensional though, and told more of a story. Despite this a gave it a few plays and found the secret! Good job! I enjoyed this one!
Fairly good game. It seemed to crash at some point, oh well. I think the enemies are too tough, making you need to respawn alot, but it's a game with fairly good graphics and could keep the player going a while. Good job!
The controls are quite difficult, but I was able to complete the game very quickly, didn't find a kitten though. The level could be a bit bigger and more complicated. But good looking game! Well done.
Nice little game. The cat is cute! Good graphics and sound.
Funny little game, not really that related to the theme though. It entertained me for a good while.
I found it quite humorous at points, it was ok for gameplay, but doesn't particularly shout out at me. It had some good challenges in it.
A graphically attractive game. Audio would have greatly improved it, even just simple tone sounds. It was a bit tiresome having to kill about a thousand of those blue things to get a diamond weapon (mace?). But the game is very impressive for 48 hours, very well done!
Good first time go! It was lacking a bit of a challenge. Audio was appropriate and there is good graphics. Well done.
Unfortunately I cannot play this game, as I have difficulty moving. The game looks good though
Make sure to try either "alone32o3" for Linux x86, "alone64o3" for Linux x86_64, or "aloneo3.exe" for Windows 32 bit, as these are optimised and create a HUGE PERFORMANCE BOOST!
I didn't really finish this game, so there isn't actually any way to shoot. It's kind of a puzzelly thing. Red buttons open/close things somewhere...
This game has no challenge aspect. There also needs to be more detail in the game. I'm not even sure what kind of environment the player's in.
Great entry! Please make more levels!
Monochrome... Monochrome... AAHHH! MUSICAL RAINBOWS!!!
Nice platformer. The jelly fish parts were tricky.
Nice touch with the piano!
I found the game pretty easy, but the last one had a wierd solution. Still, it was a fun short game.
You might be interested to know that your Linux version is just another Windows version (so it didn't work). Also, what they say about M and ; is true.
I guess people really want me to make this into something big... You're becoming convincing too...
Couldn't get passed level 3 due to a bug, but seems like a great parody.
Splat... Splat... Splat... Splat... Splat...
I feel you're kinda at the mercy of the random number generator, as it's basically impossible to defend yourself if the tank shoots near you. But fun game. I would have voted up on humor for the sounds. :P
This is a great puzzle game! I love it!
Oh yeeeeaah.
The word I'd use to describe this game is "cruel". Incredibly fun, but cruel. Job well done.
Awesome game! It's so adorable!!! Look at the little bunnies! *Gets to day 7, and all bunnies explode* D:
Right arrow seems to stop you, so that's kind three buttons - or maybe that's just a one key cheat code ;)
It would have been useful to have the instructions explain that enemies can take multiple hits.
Overall, good game. Well done.
This was harder than I expected. You need to do differentiation on the fly! I like it!
After 100 days of growing onions, I get 27668G. You must construct additional onions.
Interesting little sandbox, but it does get very repetitive. Perhaps there should be additional game elements that work against you, like seasons or pests.
Overall, well done. Good tutorial too!
The end condition seems to be a bit broken, sometimes I seem to win when I should have lost. The colouring rules are also a bit hard to memorise. I like the idea though.
So cute! AH! SEAL!
Excellent Game! Really hits that two button theme!
Why does the drop sound remind me of MSN messenger or something? :P
Nice concept. Might be good to have fleshed out a bit more.
Holding both left and right should probably not make you move left. Cute game.
I found the the controls quite weird - the periodically changing actions were confusing, and the general turning with forward/backward made it slightly frustrating. However, I liked atmosphere, and the cute little sprites.
Guy throws clay pigeon at monster...
Monster looks at person angrily...
"Oh, Sh**!"
NOM!
Good game!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! THIS GAME IS SO EVIL! Seriously, there needs to be checkpoints. This game is so HARD! But otherwise, it's a great game.
... You just had to make us use Alt and F4 at some point... didn't you. My window manager doesn't even use that, but it still works.
Evil.
Good game, but something really needs to be done about those hit boxes, because they are too big for the images.
I really love the presentation! The cartoony animations are great, and that music really works well. However, the gameplay is a bit limited. Trash cans can be a bit sticky, and it would have been nice to have a score counter or something. Overall, good job.
I got 11!!1!1!!11!1!
Better workout than Wii fit.
Great game. Really like the old CRT screen finish.
The theme is non existent, but it is a fun game.
Thanks for the feedback everyone! I've made the scaling slightly better for embedding.
I've updated with a high contrast setting following feedback.
Fits the theme perfectly!
The images of you drawing the game as it began was a nice twist to the graphics. Very cool. :D
@daveh:
Yes, there is a way!
Try doing other things the moment before you kill him.
Who knows, you might find something. :)
The controls are definitely unusual, but after a few minutes it was really neat to discover that this was a natural way of controlling five characters. Definitely a plus.
They still feel a little bit unnatural, as I am stretching my thumbs towards the middle.
Might QWERC and MUIOP be more natural for the thumbs? (that is, changing V with C, and changing N with M). This lets my hands rest facing directly forward, instead of them being tilted (as the distance from R to V is larger than the distance from U to N, my left hand feels more tilted than the other. Moving my thumb inward to C and M don't make my hands tilt, and so I don't feel the difference in the offset the lower keys have).
Though it's completely possible that my hands are just a bit too small for the keyboard. :P
I also liked the difference between rocks and spears. It wasn't apparent at first that there was a difference, and noticing it felt a bit like a small "Eureka" puzzle moment. After that, it was very satisfying to finish the level.
Difficult, especially in the beginning of the game. Getting hang of getting around the different enemies was a great part of the game.
The monster was especially neat. He did things that surprised me, even once I thought I recognized all of his attacks. Even though in retrospect it isn't too hard to walk past him, every time I do it's extremely thrilling, as in most 2D platformers I don't get to walk directly in front of an enemy and live.
Very original!
The difficulty curve was neat and originial! The way the game gets harder the more mistakes you do really makes the player put effort in defeating every possible enemy. It also adds to the last-few-seconds thrill, making me frantically jump around when there is barely any fire left.
The character was a bit hard to control, but that just made the last few seconds more fun.
A moving story, with polished graphics. Definitely worth the three to four plays to try go through every possible conversation.
Though I'm a bit bummed the story behind the tech is still a mystery. What does it look like, and what exactly did it do? I hoped that if I did all my research I'd discover something more, but I guess not. Maybe I missed something?
In any case, this was a great story, and I really enjoyed playing it.
The animals were amusing, and it was fun to try figure out what each wanted. The mechanics of the game were a bit confusing at first, but it was easy to get the hang of it once the first firework was deployed. Pretty neat overall!
Ohh... the names made me feel so bad for sacrificing them. Definitely a neat minigame, with a great simplistic design that poses a unique challenge.
Repressing the keys is a bit tiring, but fun nonetheless.
The music is fitting, too.
All in all, this is pretty neat.
This is a very innotiative game!
I really enjoyed the mechanics. Not only was it something I haven't seen before, but it was also fun to play, giving a thrill whenever trying to react quickly, and being scared that the music could stop at any moment.
Great jam entry!
The game mechanic was immersive. It fit really well with the text-based format of the game, and made some plot points a lot more thrilling than I see in most interactive stories.
Nicely done! :D
Nice game. A little tough perhaps, and the luck involved in item drops made one play though considerably different to the others. Good quality work with the visuals and sounds.
Nice game. I thought R was the appropriate choice for reload personally (it's intuitive and standard). When right up close to an enemy, my bullets seem to just go straight through them. It would also be nice to preempt reloading to switch weapon.
Quick time events :P
I think this concept could really have been explored further. Unfortunately, no attachment has been built up around the characters, so I didn't experience much connection or loss.
The art style and mood are superb!
I like how the level is designed, but falling to my death could become frustrating. Perhaps just making the player respawn at the start position would be better, as the player only re-executes their previous method - after all, you can never trap yourself (which I think is good design).
I feel this game suffers from being too easy. I can often just stay in one place shooting with the pistol and the ants won't get me. I could go on forever without taking any damage.
I also found a few bugs (no pun intended):
* I couldn't figure out how to pick up weapons. I tried shift and space.
* Ants sometimes spawn on me (particularly in certain places it seemed).
* Space (switch weapon) resets the shooting interval even without extra weapons, and can be exploited to turn your pistol to an Uzi.
Nice and simple.
Although, I spent 5 minutes trying to figure out that the interact key is Z (not 2). :P
I love the graphics and presentation of this game. Very good considering this is a compo entry.
But I think the gameplay needs a little tweaking. I found that simply spamming the shoot key whilst not even touching the movement controls was typically sufficient to win.
Nice game. Took a while for me to figure out the energy mechanics, particularly that charged shots drain suit energy whilst uncharged shots didn't. This led me to use charged shots almost exclusively for a few minutes before I realised how to save up on energy properly. The aiming is a little off with regards to mouse too.
The map terrain is randomly generated, yes.
Nice to see another garbage themed game.
This was really well done. Got a good few chuckles out of it. The graphics and sound are really spot on for hitting that mood.
I really like this game. However it does have quite a few bugs. I feel that the movement is a bit off, especially when jumping only works when you're mostly on platform. I experienced a few clipping issues, some of which forced me to start again. I also feel that the hit boxes of the coins are slightly too large, and it makes it feel as if the game is cheating you. A few odd frame rate drops here and there too.
I was initially unwelcoming towards the mandatory coins, but I can appreciate after completing the game how they are carefully used as a balance against the player's timer increase.
There was a decent number of levels, and I think you utilised the wrapping feature very well, especially where it introduces a non-obvious but better path for the player. And that boss battle was more exhilarating than I expected.
Great job!
I feel like there should be more backstory to this game. It might be because I haven't played Undertail.
The movement seems to deteriorate a bit when the game gets faster, but I do think it does generally hit the theme.
I can see a lot of work was put in towards the presentation of this game.
The pickup key seemed mostly redundant for some reason? The sprinting mechanics are a little odd too.
It wasn't too difficult to avoid the other cats. Perhaps there could have been more encouragement for the player to enter into a dangerous situation, or have a less predictable opponent.
Overall, good job!
I don't know why this game is 167MB. 167MB in a browser doesn't tend too work well. Chrome doesn't seem to allow that much, but Firefox does. The browser version's mouse support is a bit off too. You also missed out the Windows version. These issues might be reducing your number of ratings.
Overall, I liked the game's graphics, but I feel that the gameplay is too simple. I also think it would have been better if the atoms only reduced your manoeuvrability, rather than your top speed, because as soon as you have more than one atom, you have no ability to avoid the red atoms. I think there could have been a lot more potential for using the environment to your advantage, such as trapping atoms behind walls or ricocheting for manoeuvrability, but sadly the level construction largely limited this approach. Good work though.
Really well put together. Nice level of challenge, and good level design.
I don't feel that the lives system is appropriate to this type of game, but it does add to that classic feel you're going for.
I also experienced the bug where a green blob leaves a ghost.
It might be interesting to explore the mechanics where your tail doesn't retract.
The full-screen artwork and the ambient music hit the mood really well.
I experienced a few glitches where I could fly through things occasionally. The speeds and accelerations seemed a little unnatural. Those cows just go where they please.
J, K, and L can pretty much just be spammed. Once you realise that it's quite easy to complete the game in minimal time. But the first play through is generally quite interesting before you get used to it all, and it made me laugh as it all fell apart.
It seems that I played this game for half an hour and didn't see a single tennis ball or unit of yarn. I don't think the game has enough content to warrant such an excessively long playtime, and it does make it feel a little forced and drawn out. There isn't particularly any challenge, and I feel the game mostly boils down to luck, with the time limit only serving to aggravate the player and submit to the theme.
I do however love the art style you've chosen, and I feel that it suits your game very well.
I think what this game could really use is some form of bargaining system to make trades a little less linear. I also think that the trading system in this game would have worked very well for telling a story or exploring the lives of the villagers, which would have added a lot more depth.
"Seven apples for one apple? You have a deal my friend!"
This tiny snack approves.
Well, I guessed right first time, but after a lot of hesitation. There were a few things which were a little confusing, but maybe I was paying too much attention to detail. I won't say more for risk of spoilers.
I loved the detective aspect of this game, and got really invested in it. Good job! But the traps really didn't add anything to the gameplay. I guess they were there for the theme.
Overall, really good game!
This is a brilliant idea. Unfortunately, the game seems rather unstable, on both Windows and Linux (not tried OSX), crashing after some moves. I'd have loved to have been able to get through a game without a crash. :(
The controls are fairly unintuitive, and required a few blunders to get going. There are also a few UI bugs.
Great job with the graphics!
And thanks for the PC version!
I'm getting good vibes from this game.
"The patient has a low white blood cell count. Your diagnosis?"
"Umm... AIDS?"
"Correct!" *jumps eye brows up and down*
O_O
This game makes me laugh for 5 damage.
This game is a stroke of genius. I especially love those newspaper announcements. Brilliant!
Kind of reminds me of Fez. I would have definitely played more levels of this!
I think this formula could really improve if there was some sort of target or goal to reach. Perhaps x seeds within y seconds on a sequence of levels. Cool idea though.
This was reasonably fun. Shame there's only one level. I would have played more!
Good game! It seemed to escalate rather quickly though.
Took a while to figure out what was going on, but it's actually a very good game. And that music is so on point.
I seemed to get some rather odd frame drops once I started getting things wired up, but other than that, the game ran fine.
I have to criticise the font. It needs to be clearer what each letter is, which you can do very well with 3x3 bitmaps. I also feel that this is a test of patience, and there isn't particularly any challenge due to the fact that there is no way to lose.
I think an AI player attacking you too would have added the necessary pressure to make this game more exhilarating.
There doesn't seem to be any particular challenge to the game, or even a way to lose it. You'll win just by doing nothing. Without the risk of failure, there is no sense of reward.
I'm not entirely sure what the two genres are, but you seem to be combining three incompatible ingredients per patron.
I feel the game was a bit too short and rigid. The gameplay as it stands is far too simplistic.
Well done regarding the 3D models though. I guess some may think they are stock because their style doesn't blend in with other aspects of the game, such as the 2D patrons. It was a shock to learn the game was actually 3D!
It's a beautiful game. It is, however, one of those games which becomes more difficult and frustrating the more impatient you get :P
