LD42 — Running out of space

Snakescape by krasse 2018-08-14T10:17:40Z

I really like the idea!

Appreciated the fact that you have time to experiment with the different tiles and restart when you make a mistake. The music matches this impression of non-stressing game and I really liked that.

Good puzzle game!

Claustro Escalade by asyzruffz 2018-08-14T11:14:41Z

I couldn't make it to a potential escape, but I had good time killing those flying enemies.

I like your idea, and the physics behavior of all those dead enemies when the spread around.

Nice entry for this jam!

Stack Rush! by smirnov48 2018-08-14T11:02:56Z

A good little game! I enjoyed the music and the simple graphics. When things are beginning to go fast I was really in the game! As @fireslash said, with a bit more balance it could be better.

But I had fun playing as I had fun coding my game, so the jam goal is reached!

Collapse by BladeSides 2018-08-14T10:39:46Z

I like the idea and the fact that you made so many levels! That's impressive in this short compo time! I appreciated the triangle background (as in your last two screenshots), it makes me think of an origami crease pattern.

The game froze one time on the web version, but aside of that everything works well together.

Good job!

Slime Escape by Dom Harris 2018-08-14T09:55:33Z

I am really bad with platformers xD Your game is really beatiful, I like the glowing portals and character. I found the dash hard to use on keyboard, but as I say my skills at this genre of games are about inexistent... But I kept trying until the end!

Ultimate Boss Battle of Doom by Gurbx 2018-08-16T19:08:45Z

I really liked the jumping on bombs mechanics, it works quite well to aim at you enemy target once you understand it is possible.

And the character made me laugh jumping like that.

I like the different particle effects you use for the different actions in game, this is something I don't know how to do as I'd like, and I think you did great.

Good job!

Running out of Space by Harry Jacobs 2018-08-25T11:29:18Z

I really like the music and the mood of your game. The effects on the buttons and the way the planets explode are my favorite parts. :)

This game is hard but really enjoyable. Congrats for making it!

Running Out Of Space by CaylebLucas 2018-08-14T15:49:34Z

This game is really cool! The graphics are nice and I always loved mini games like these.

The one with the platforms is a bit hard as you cannot see your cube when it jumps too high.

I had a lot of fun with your game, congrats to the team.

Disk Allocation: Typing Spectacular by electr1ca 2018-08-25T11:11:08Z

I really enjoyed this game! I could get to 30% but not further. (I would have liked to see what happens when you win ^^)

The graphics are really beautiful and give a good style to the game, and the sounds go together with it, this works well. I liked the three characters you can choose and the little friend who come helping before the files-boss, there are really great ideas to in the bonus scripts.

Really like your job on this game!

LectureRush by FooMar 2018-08-14T18:57:56Z

I really like this game!

The idea is original and well executed. I really appreciated the little details of the graphics, and the changing environment as you keep trying. It is sometimes a bit hard to see the objects of distracted students, but the sound effects help a lot. (and they are great)

You did great job!

(I guess you used godot?)

LectureRush by FooMar 2018-08-14T20:53:06Z

This is the error I made with my game. I used goodot 3 and the web versìon does not run with all browsers.

Thanks for your answer!

Screen Space Defender by Balance686 2018-08-16T19:36:42Z

I've always liked mini games like that. And the way you integrated those mini-games to match the theme is very clever. Everything is working pretty well together. Things happened a bit too fast for me at first, but I get used to carefully watch the entire image when it appears so I improved. :)

I think this is great and well executed.

TCGD AntiVirus '98 by Allen Oliver 2018-08-14T15:40:12Z

Cool game! The map was greater than I first guessed, and it was a good surprise! Nice graphics and thrilling music.

Good memories of childhood with the windows 95-98 looking.

Good job!

Shrink by loonydrope 2018-08-14T10:03:46Z

@krasse Thank you for testing, and for you ideas. I preferred decreasing the number of bomb while you level up instead of making the walls go faster, because in general I don't like very much the games where you're stressed by time. That was my way to get around this. I like the ideas of different room shapes and a maze.

Shrink by loonydrope 2018-08-14T10:05:52Z

@harsh-bawari Sorry to hear you couldn't try the game...

Did the bombs appear on the screen after the title screen? Were you able to move?

I sure will go and try your game, thanks for your feedback.

Shrink by loonydrope 2018-08-14T15:09:26Z

I cannot see where the problem could be... At home it works well with the browsers I have.

But thank you for the feedback.

Shrink by loonydrope 2018-08-14T18:35:59Z

@scottthoo and @rob-parker The game has an end in the sense that after too many iterations, the number of bombs that are spawn is less than the number required to continue, so even if you manage to grab all of them, this will not be enough. Maybe I should have make this moment happen sooner.

Thanks to both of you for your comments.

Shrink by loonydrope 2018-08-14T19:40:31Z

Thank you @gurbx for the explanation of the problem about the web version and Godot. I will edit the page to inform people.

Glad you enjoyed playing the game. I will increase the difficulty in a way or an other in a few days I think. But I don'y know if this is fair now the regular time is over and the games are still being rated.

Shrink by loonydrope 2018-08-17T17:06:11Z

@flaterectomy Sorry for your wirst!

About picking bombs, I first wanted to make the character explode instead of just shrinking. I implemented the shrinking with an animation on scale because this was simple and wanted to go back to it later. But I ran out of time so it stayed as it was. (I started the jam a day and a half after the start so the last hours were very full) The same apply for the colors of the character: what was intended to be temporary stayed at the end.

Glad you enjoy it anyway.

Shrink by loonydrope 2018-08-17T17:08:45Z

@joran & @balance686 Thanks for your comments.

I keep your improvement ideas and when the rating time will be over, maybe I will update the code and add a new version based on all those advices. Thank you!

Panic at the Haunted Hotel by Danilo Nishimura 2018-08-25T11:40:31Z

I am usually not found of difficult games, but I wanted to keep trying with this one. It is visually great (and the reference too :) ), and the first "booh" of the ghost combined with the zoom effect made me jump, I wasn't expecting that!

Great job!

Hell's Highway by magicera 2018-08-14T15:59:50Z

I really enjoyed this game! The music is really cool and really participate to the global mood, and I appreciated the different landscapes you drive in as you try an retry the game.

Good work!

Virus: Rabbit by Rob Parker 2018-08-16T19:18:43Z

Nice game!

I was at first a bit confused when I attacked enemies, not knowing if it worked or not. Maybe this would be something to add, a visual or audio effect as feedback for a successful attack.

The concept is cool and I like those funny rabbit viruses fighting against firewall and others!

Plant's Conquest by Sam Estep 2018-08-16T18:47:08Z

I had to come back to this page and see the advises that have been given to other lost players for level2, but I enjoyed the experience and the design of levels. The highlights were at first a bit confusing, maybe it could have been clearer to help knowing what to do.

The sound track and graphics are really great.

You did very well with this entry, I think!

Save the dudes by jjcp 2018-08-14T15:21:21Z

I really like the idea and what you created around it.

Nice pixel art gaphics and ingenuous little puzzle. I missed a piece of music to go with that all, but this is already good as it is!

Bloated Garbage! by Bonyok77 2018-08-14T10:51:34Z

Nice game! I used the keyboard because the mouse button didn't seem to work (I played the web version)

The music and nice graphics give a very good feeling. A really nice little entry, and for a first game jam, I think it is really great. I had fun playing!

Gunning Out of Space by NikTheNarwhal 2018-08-25T11:18:58Z

Congrats for this first entry!

I really like the hand drawn graphics of your game, and the simple animations you made. Everything happen a little too quick, maybe scaling the difficulty from a simpler point to hard would be a good idea. At least it was hard for me, I could not get to really high scores.

But this is great, a beautiful compo entry!

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

My own Asteroid by loonydrope 2021-04-26T15:25:01Z

Thanks to both of you! I am very glad you appreciate the musics. It is one of the things I liked very much in this game jam and in my previous participations: composing. I do it when everything else is about to be finished: when the pressure of time is less intense because I know I will be ready before the deadline, and when the mood of what I have already drawn is already pretty clear. It lets me pick music that I hope fits with the parts of the game I want to illustrate.

About the handwritten part, I understand you @mduo13 , and I have to say I hesitated a lot before deciding to do everything by hand: I thought it fitted the story better. It lets the fragility of the character be shown, writing in caps when he feels lost and in lowercase when he recovers. But I have to agree, I should have been more careful an be sure to be readable. That is one of the things I have to improve on with my drawing tablet. I was also unsure to be authorized to use more original fonts when participating for the compo.

Thanks for the kind words about the story, the message of the game means a lot to me.

My own Asteroid by loonydrope 2021-04-26T18:58:19Z

Thanks @morphine for your feedback! To tell the truth, I anticipated this "let the gravity do the work" issue at the beginning of the project. So I decided that for the building and testing time I would go with randomized "enemies" placement, and I planned to give them a fixed starting position later on, in order to prevent the player from not building any platform and yet winning anyway. But I had no time to do that, it seemed to complicated with the little time I had. So I fixed the random seed to a value with which, on my computer, not touching anything couldn't work.

Maybe there are different implementations of the random number generator, and that for the Windows export the initial positions of the "enemies" are totally different. (I built the game using Linux) That is a problem I don't really know how to solve... Let's say this is a hidden feature! :)

Thanks again, it is a pleasure to share this creation with other people, and having them sharing their reaction to it!

My own Asteroid by loonydrope 2021-04-28T07:19:08Z

@pizzasgood tanks for your feedback. I will investigate on that bug you found, it may be simple enough to solve. Tanks again!

My own Asteroid by loonydrope 2021-04-28T09:00:16Z

The fix is done. It was just a single line of code to add, but a quite long time to re-upload everything on icth.io and gotm.io with my little connection. Thanks again for letting me know about this bug!

My own Asteroid by loonydrope 2021-04-28T10:35:26Z

Thanks @mudlee for the feedback. Sad yout didn't make it too the end, you missed the conclusion of the story.

Maybe try to build platforms to block the character against the wall when you are above an enemy and then clik anywhere else to delete the platform when he has gone farther away.

But I dont juge you, I am actually pretty bad at lots of games! :)

My own Asteroid by loonydrope 2021-04-28T20:11:29Z

Thank you very much for your feedback @gaminghamster !

I encountered the disappearing portion of the level bug while developing the game, with what you describe, going outside the walls etc, and I implemented what I thought was a good fix, because it didn't happen to me again. But it seems from what you say that my fix was not enough. I will try to find another way to ensure this doesn't happen. But I will let the game as it is for the rating time, it seems more fair with the compo rules.

There are indeed good things to live for, and I really feel since a few day that being here and have people working on their own projects to share them with other people is one of them.

Thanks again !

Cave Rider by Iker Díaz 2021-04-27T18:33:28Z

I really enjoyed the art, animation and music, that go perfectly well together, this is very beautiful!

But your game is waaaaaay too fast for my poor skills! I kept trying for a good time, but I keep dying very quickly without being able to do anything after four or five successful shots. This is a bit sad, because I think I could have enjoyed the game if I had been able to live longer.

Maybe you should have set the scrolling speed to a lower value at the start, and have it increased as the time passes. It would allow bad players like me to enjoy the game a bit longer, and add a difficulty curve to the game.

This is a great entry however, very clean looking (this is so far from what I have done on this aspect, I am really amazed). Really good work!

Madman - The Crazy Scientist by mudlee 2021-04-27T16:43:37Z

I really enjoyed your game!

The sound effects of the citizens are maybe a bit to soft and cute for the crazy scientist to be as mad to them as he is! Anyway the pixel art for the scientist and the environment is really beautiful and I love the little speech rectangles above the character when they talk, it integrates really well with the rest of the graphics. The scientist voice is a bit freaking, but it fits perfectly with his hypnotizing goal.

At first I got caught by the police multiple times, but then I saw I could keep hypnotizing people while walking away. This helped me a lot! I saw in the comments later that I'm not the only one who took advantage of this.

This is a really nice entry for this short amount of time, congratulations for your work! (And it is really cool to have a downloadable linux version of a game, I am a bit frustrated with the amount of entries I cannot test right now, but that is another subject)

Minball by Pizzasgood 2021-04-28T20:04:15Z

I just let a little comment to tell I tried the game and I think I could really like it. Unfortunately my machine seems not powerful enough to run it properly, everything is going really slow. So I will come back later on a newer PC to test it as it deserves, and I will let another feedback and note the entry then. See you later!

Dwarven Descent by Chumzy 2021-04-27T17:54:56Z

Your game is maybe a bit too hard for me, but I have to say I am not really good at games.

I didn't make it to the end at my first tries, but I tried again, concentrating on advancing and not killing every enemy I encountered, and it was much easier, and I eventually got to the end.

I really appreciated the different tiles as you go deeper, and the different enemies too. The animations of the character, the enemies and the effects when you collect a treasure are very cool and beautiful.

Just like @zimny11 , the word dwarf got my attention immediately! And the game corresponds well to the idea of a dwarf story.

I think this is a strong entry, especially for a compo game! Good work!

Cecil & Dawson Asylum by AdamWatters 2021-04-26T18:42:20Z

I am really not used to play text games, but with the immersive music and the details in the text (I had to search the translation of a few words because my English is not very good), I didn't want to quit before reaching the end. Switching between the rooms is easy and I was not lost as I thought I would be at first. When the map showed up, I was a bit relieved that there was not too much rooms to explore.

I didn't imagine this kind of puzzle gameplay existed in text games, this is a discovery for me and I really enjoyed it.

Nice work!

Deeper by robinfaury 2021-04-28T19:45:56Z

After looking for a working emulator for linux I've managed to try your game, and I must say it is quite enjoyable to play it with a controller in hands. It fits well with the game boy feeling art.

I read the previous comments so I won't repeat what others said (about not being sure when I got to the end or not), but I really enjoyed the puzzle mechanic of the potion and the one turning you once more than expected was a bit tricky to notice at first, but it was a pleasure when you're finally able to go down once again. Good job.

I don't know at all how developing a gbc game is done, but as I saw comments speaking about assembly, it seems like a really hard job to me, so congratulations even more for the job done here.

Good job!

Space Jump by Gaminghamster 2021-04-26T17:49:48Z

This game is not as simple as it might seems!

The controls are a bit hard to take in hand at first, but after a few game over I managed to create platform while in air and control more or less where I wanted to go.

It would maybe be great to be able, when you're out of build power pellets, to do a "last try" jump to collect one and to be able to use it to rescue you from the game over. It seems not to be possible now because the platforms are always created above you. Maybe this "last chance" platform could be built under you to allow the game to continue when a pellet is at the reach of a jump. But that is just an idea.

Are the platform generated using the Shapes library too ? If so this is great! From what I saw here and there this tool is quite powerful.

Nice work!

Deep in the ocean by xicoizquierdo 2021-04-27T17:10:58Z

Y really enjoyed your game! At first I didn't understand that I was going down automatically and I tried to reach the bottom of the window and I died.

That was better the next time and I've had fun.

I really like the aesthetic of your animals. My favourite are the turtles (I love turtles), and the octopuses that are squashing up and down: a simple animation for a really good result.

The flipping animation of the submarine when you change direction is really cool too.

I am not sure there was an increasing difficulty (or maybe it should increase faster) with the spawning of the oxygen bottles. As other people mentioned, it would have made sense to have the different species appear at different depth, giving the player a better feel of going deeper.

Congrats for this nice entry, and the really clean looking art. Well done!

GOBLIN HAMBURGER LASER ARENA by youthfulIdealism 2021-04-26T18:15:07Z

I don't know if it fits the theme or not, but for the humor category, I think it is all good, for the game and for your description of making it!

The mouth laser is a very satisfying weapon, but those shield-enemy make the game really harder when they appear. I really like how you managed to build those different enemies, and how their order of appearance make the difficulty curve increase along the game.

I didn't get to the destruction of the bell for now, but I think I will come back later. I want to win and finish this game, I think it deserve it.

Congratulation for the work!

Rootss by antonishig 2021-04-26T16:21:44Z

At first I thought it didn't work in my browser when I got stuck in the help section. But after a reload I enjoyed the game.

The music is really great, it goes very well with the peaceful mood of the game.

I didn't get it the first time with how to split roots, but it was way better the second time. Stopping roots to grow seemed not to work every time I tried to used it, event when I had the green circle shown. I second @fdk : it would be great to have just a bit more of feedback when the player's actions are taken in count.

To finish, I would say I quite enjoy the graphics of the roots going wider and wider and their sneaky way to grow when you start splitting. The concept is well imagined and the realization is good!

Beession Impossible by mathewcst 2021-04-26T17:20:52Z

This game is really beautiful! I really love the art style.

The different traps and the enemies spread across the levels make a pretty good challenge for a game made in 48 hours. I'm very impressed by the quality of what you have achived. And playing a bee firing bullets to reach her queen will assure you a good humor vote from my part! :) I found the music a bit repetitive at first, but as I saw it later as Mission impossible theme adaptation, I totally enjoyed it.

Maybe you could have been more close to the theme by adding more verticality to your game, the deepness is not what it evokes the most. But anyway, it is too good and nice looking to be blamed for that!

Really great work!

Fall Damage Isn't Fun by JakubBala 2021-04-27T17:34:35Z

Good entry!

At first I didn't pay enough attention to the height I was falling from and I died just above the gem. I have been more cautious the second time, trying to control the character more precisely and I managed to make it to the gem without taking too much damage.

It is nice to have a physics mechanic with the box at the start, it would have been really interesting to have the player needing to use it later on in the game, but I totally understand that this kind of level design stuff would have taken you beyond the limited time of the compo. I made it to the end not particularly trying to use the other boxes, and I think being forced to find how you can use them to fall safely would have added a kind of puzzle mechanic that would have been entertaining.

I saw above that you've spent a lot of time on the graphics, and I think you did really well. The tiles are very clean looking and it is well done to have them change while you go down. I would say the same thing as the others did about the character movement, but I understand that you gave the priority to the art.

Really good work!

Deep Sea by Phlebas 2021-05-02T19:52:12Z

Very interesting game!

The fact that you tell a story as the player collects objects is really a good idea. The small pace of the game lets the player read quietly the story while the level is ending. The graphics are really cool and clean. I like the band of fishes going their way laterally while you sink. The design of the whale is really great too, and the lighting effects are simple but work well with the single color darkening as you sink.

I chose to cut the rope at the end. I wanted to try and follow the whale, but that wasn't possible. At least is was a good last sight.

I used another way in my entry to provide narration into the game, this is really cool to see how other people came with other ideas to tell their stories. Congratulations for the good job!

Blue Square and the Mystery Cave by asdehielo 2021-05-02T19:29:11Z

This game is exactly what I like to play after a game jam!

I am impressed by the cleanness of the graphics and the level design of your game. This is very interesting to keep the player from jumping, while providing him a way to unlock doors he cannot reach himself. I like the last sequence with the light fading out, leading to the end in the total darkness. This is simple but very clever in order to give an impact to the end.

The camera zoom didn't bother me, I took it as being part of the level design: you have anticipate your throwing when you have your goal at sight and the move to be able to throw properly. Same thing for hidden spikes, the mechanics of throwing is here to help you know when and where it is safe to move. It is really satisfying to have this simple mechanic, known by the player that can be used for different purposes as he advances in the game.

I really like your entry. Congrats, great work!

Vibin' Secrets by mDuo13 2021-04-26T15:57:42Z

This is nice! I like the ambience that the images bring, it fits well with the finding mechanics and the bars. The hidden moving sparkles are a good idea, it adds a kind of simple puzzle mechanic, and the temperature bar helps a lot with them.

Bob's Depth by phealsout 2021-04-26T16:51:03Z

This game is hard! I made it to the fourth layer, but that was tough. The green enemies are very hard to fight, I think they move too fast.

A few ideas that I think could make the game much enjoyable: - Make sure to spawn the enemies away enough of the player when he comes to the next level: often times I died before being able to do anything because the enemies where overlapping me as I entered the level. - Maybe you could prevent the player from going backward accidentally: when I try to avoid the green enemies, I go back sometimes because I am too close to the upper bound. - Maybe make it clearer for the player that the different buttons of the mouse are for different enemies. There are indeed visual clues, but it was not obvious to me before a moment playing it.

For the short amount of time of the compo, it is still good to have something playable, even with its little imperfections. Congratulations for making it!

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Just Bill by gamedevbynight 2018-04-29T18:48:55Z

Wow! You made a great game! I love the puzzle mixed with physics and platform game.

The level design is clever and I think you worked well on it, it is enjoyable to be able to play many levels from a compo game.

This is a good job, I understand you are proud of it as your best LD entry!

Cowboys vs Aliens by nidup 2018-05-07T19:58:30Z

I like the way we have to learn which weapon has which property by trying and watching what other characters do. This is really a good idea and the progression day by day makes it like a kind of friendly tutorial. I really enjoyed playing your game, and the graphics are really great.

I wish the current weapon you are using were more highlighted in the top-right list (it is once when you change, but not if you change again without shooting)

Great game anyway, I really liked it!

Space Bobble by japes 2018-05-01T17:27:28Z

I liked it!

The idea is interesting and well served by the graphics. I missed some music track over the whole thing, but this is still a good entry without it. I had fun playing it, and this is what is important.

Good work!

Funk Escape by Rolle 2018-04-24T06:55:06Z

This game is beautiful!

I liked the music track, and just like @hanra I kept trying to hear the totality of it. (though my time was way longer than a minute ^^).

But it was worth it because the unicorn!

I am usually not good at playing video games but this one made me go to the end, so I really enjoyed!

CardDunTris by jcwelgemoed 2018-04-25T10:35:09Z

This is a very interesting and creative game! The graphics are beautiful, and especially pleasant when we know how you made things with your daughters. This family jam is a great idea. I saved the princess at first try though I did not understand everything, but the idea is good, and winning was fun!

No-Brain Jogging by gonutz 2018-04-29T13:05:41Z

Math and zombies! It seems we have had kind of the same idea for this LD41 :) We did not treat it the same way though, but it is interesting to see what each of us has done with it!

You can test my game here : https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/education-to-survive

I liked your game, because math and zombies, and also the music and graphics. Good job!

Dungeon Slider by justinooncx 2018-04-26T07:16:11Z

I have ever done a slide puzzle before, but with no other aspect than the puzzle one.

Yours mixes very well the rpg aspects with the puzzle and it is very great. Principle is simple (once you read the instruction ^^) and thus it becomes addictive directly when you start playing!

I think that is a very good game.

I will try it on my phone too sooner, just to experience it, and because I want to come back to this game! Graphics are great and the varieties of enemies add really to the experience through the levels.

Really good job, this game deserves more ratings!

Someone Is Wrong On The Internet by huminaboz 2018-04-30T18:00:14Z

I liked it! A bit tricky at the end for me as a bad English speaking person, but I like the rhythm of the game, and playing with arrows is really an advantage with this.

Great idea, great graphics and everything well combined, good job!

Incremental Maze by Ed B. 2018-04-26T15:36:21Z

I love the idea! Maze games are things I like, and one of the first thing I did when I learned programming on my calculator was a maze game. Your game reminds me of the good time I had programming it and playing with classmates!

Simple and beautiful, and unique concept!

NEED FOR DEFENSE by trulyspinach 2018-04-26T15:27:37Z

I'm not used to tower defense games, but the driving side of the game brought me to play more than I thought! I appreciate the graphics, and the camera movement is not that bad, it did not disturb me. Once I got stuck after I lose and the main menu button had no effect, I had to refresh the page (web version, maybe the problem comes from here) Great work!

Jing & Jang delivery Co. by Sanguis 2018-04-25T10:51:30Z

This game is fun! I like the music changing according to what happens. Jin seems to be able to walk through the cars, without being hurt, and the Jang part of the job is harder! I was glad he can respawn! This is a pretty little game, I enjoyed playing it! Feel free to try my first game jam game here if you want! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/education-to-survive

Jean-Micheng VS Goblins by lo-x 2018-04-24T22:41:23Z

Beau travail!

Tennis Hero by JeffChen 2018-04-30T09:01:09Z

Really impressive game! Graphically this is awesome, and the game itself is well balanced, I am not really good at video game but I could go to a decent score without spending so much time, and it was fun even when dying.

This is really good!

Move and Hide by Hizrok 2018-04-29T12:52:47Z

This is a nice first Ludum Dare game! I like the levels being self-explicative: you get to understand how it works by trying them.

I think you could have built other levels with increasing difficulty, over the base of these three levels, and this is great, it means you have a game that deserves improvement!

Nerd's Revenge: Punches delivered with math by Bartosz 2018-04-30T08:53:16Z

This game is really cool, although I was not really good playing it, things happen too fast for me :)

I enjoyed the introducing scene and the graphics are great! Testing it under linux I had some issue (no mouse pointer in the title screen)

Great job however, I had a lot of fun!

My game mixed math and fight in different way, you can try it if you want: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/education-to-survive

Shuffle Climber by miroky 2018-04-30T17:46:18Z

I like your game! :) The idea is interesting and you exploited it well. Maybe the beginning could be a bit more progressive, for the player to have time to get used to the gameplay, but this is done by losing and retrying and it is great like that.

Very beautiful graphics, and a music that suits the game, this is a great work!

Tetriform by magicdidac 2018-04-24T07:14:37Z

I really like the idea! That was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the gif. I found it harder than it seems, though. I agree with the counter-intuitive controls, the down arrow to speed up the pieces and a separate key to flip would have fit better I think. I don't know if this is because I did not go far enough, but the sound track is maybe a bit too simple (even if great!). A tetris-inspired game could have a more heady music theme.

I criticize a bit, but I liked it :)

(Oh! and I didn't know virtual piano, it seems interesting to use!)

Beat Street by solluxx 2018-05-01T03:34:36Z

This game is very beautiful and enjoyable! The rhythm mechanism is slow enough to let you build and understand how things work, so the experience is smooth and fun. I agree with the comments saying it lacks some music track a bit. Graphics are very beautiful and placing elements more and more wisely is really fun!

One thing though, I don't know how you manage the keyboard in your code, but changing the layout on my system to qwerty didn't work, it was still recognize as azerty. (I should try with windows instead of linux, maybe this would fix this issue). After a moment of practice this was not a problem anymore, even if I had to manage q and w with the same finger ^^

This is really a great work, I loved the experience!

Fire Duck Football by Yohoho Games 2 2018-04-24T07:33:29Z

The graphics are very beautiful and I like the global mood. (music fits well with the big duck ^^) I could not try the 2 players mode and the 1 player was a bit too easy because of the AI, I never losed, but all other aspects of the game are really great i think. Great job on this game!

Hoop Tactics by MonstermanMFR 2018-04-30T08:28:38Z

Nice game! It took me quite a while to get how to play, at first I was very slow, but finally I could begin scoring and it was fun. I agree with @Bartosz on his points of improvement. I was a bit confused about what I could or couldn't do at first. Graphical informations would be great.

Anyway this is a good game and I enjoyed it! You can test mine if you want here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/education-to-survive

Education to survive by loonydrope 2018-04-25T09:49:23Z

Thank you @Yrsela @fokof and @PandaCultist for trying my game. Yes, I definitely should have used a more visible font, at least for the math box. If your math skills are bad, (just like mine ^^), you can change the waiting time of each operation and the zombie velocity in the second screen, values used for easy, medium and hard levels are just arbitrary presets.

Education to survive by loonydrope 2018-04-25T11:08:04Z

Thank you very much @nidup and @Lacre!

Those comments make me really happy. Having something to post was a first satisfaction, and knowing people play an like my game makes it greater!

Education to survive by loonydrope 2018-04-25T12:37:28Z

Thank you for having played the game @jcwelgemoed ! Glad you enjoyed it :)

I have just updated the page to take in account the feedbacks: I have changed the font for the math box so it is more readable. The original version can still be found for comparison.

I am having fun playing games, I hope you all have fun too!

Education to survive by loonydrope 2018-04-26T14:51:18Z

Thank you for the feedback!

I will try to reproduce this error, understanding why you got a pre-filled answer and lose control over the LineEdit...

And I clearly should remove zeros values from the random lists for any operation, this is not really interesting.

Thank you!

Education to survive by loonydrope 2018-05-01T04:13:51Z

Thanks for your nice comment @gonutz ! If you want more difficulty you can still speed up the zombies and let you less time for each operation, I picked the values for Easy/Medium/Hard based on my family results but this is not an universal reference!

I really hope I will participate to other LDs and that this will be as great as this first one. Will be glad to see you then!

Shot Thru The Heart by sheehan 2018-04-24T23:19:35Z

Wow, this game fits the theme very well!

And for humor this is perfect, even though I didn't understand everything at the first read. (as a bad english-speaking/reading person ^^)

This is an entertaining way of telling a story, this game clearly deserve good votes :)

Gender Circles by EkkoEkko 2018-04-24T21:53:34Z

My first score was one of highest I did, over 200! I think this was chance, but it gave me the will to try to do best, and that was really a pleasure. Everything goes to the essential and fits very well its purpose: the graphics don't need to be more complicated and the music is simple but perfect to entertain the player without distracting him. The overall sensation is very good. I had fun making a game for three days, and now I am very interested in and happy to see what other people did! And you did great!

Gender Circles by EkkoEkko 2018-04-24T23:39:41Z

In french, the same word is used for gender and genre, so for me (I'm french), the game is playing with words, so I think it truly respects the theme.

Ah! Runaway! by Reign 2018-04-24T22:27:45Z

I played a first time trying to do my best and event if that was a bit hard it was fun, music and sound effects are cool and enjoyable.

Then after a few tries, I played just to see the graphics because I could not really see them while being focused on the lower part of the screen. And they are really great!

I think there is real potential in your game and in the ideas of @derek_brouwer, allowing the player to enjoy both the rhythm game and the infinite runner game and design.

For the time you passed on it this is really great I think: you have a cool and aesthetic game that works well, and people who enjoy it!

Tiny Crusader by nilstastic 2018-05-01T17:13:30Z

I lost at level 24, it was very fun!

Really beautiful yet simple mechanism. Everything works well together: music, graphics and sound effects, perfect for pico8! I enjoyed it and memories of the lemmings that your game make remind are so fun! Thanks and cheers for this entry!

Indirectris by Synedraacus 2018-05-01T04:04:49Z

I had to read the instructions two times before being sure to understand what was happening, but after that this was very interesting and fun.

I've just read your comment where you say putting one attracter in the center can makes things easier, and this is just what I had come to.

I like the ASCII graphics, maybe the sound when you assemble a block is too loud, but it is such a joy (because I found the game a bit hard) that it does not really matter.

Great work, and above all great idea!

Yaxis by TimeLoad 2018-04-29T13:17:49Z

I love the concept, and that's why I enjoy so much seeing Ludum Dare entries. The idea is great and it is exploited over simple graphics and gameplay. This is very clever and I had fun trying to understand the levels. (though I didn't make it to the end...)

Very creative!

Type n' Jump by Richard N Silva 2018-04-29T19:08:09Z

I enjoyed playing this game a lot! The idea has been used but your game is better than others in my opinion because it is more playable. You can keep focused on your character and what happens to him while typing your orders, and that makes a really good mix between the two genres you chose. I also liked the progressive aspect of the level, that lets you discover the orders one by one with use cases.

I will come back to it I think.

Shooting Mama by Dororo 2018-04-25T10:13:55Z

Beautiful game!

Things get complicated when all the ingredients are running around the kitchen and at first I didn't understand how to play, but after a few tries it is funny and I improved a bit.

Nice idea, graphics and music, and well executed!

TypeRunner by ShiMapleLeaf 2018-05-01T06:20:09Z

I really enjoyed playing this game! Everything is well polished, from graphics to sound (it has been said already but the typing sound is really great).

Pretty well balanced to make a difficult game for non fast typing persons.

I enjoyed!
