Awesome! This took too much time when I should finish my own entry instead. And even though I have already playtested it. :-)

Well done, it is really fun to play. And great that you managed to add some sound effects!
I always wondered where did all the lemmings game go. Good to see one finally!
Hello nilstastic!
Just had a nice little play of your game and with some further development, it can really become a nice little game.
I remember playing Lemmings years ago, one of my earliest video gaming memories, your game didn't exactly give me flashbacks but is a nice take on the formula. The fact that you made procedurally generated levels is quite impressive, never bugged on me either, so good job.
The visuals were great. Seems like Pico-8 just keeps making awesome looking games. I love the sound effects, they're a nice substitute for no background music (which I feel isn't even necessary for this kind of game). Sweet particles too.
I just found it a bit... easy? To me it felt like digging down most of the time. Not knowing whether sending them down to the abyss was the right thing to do also worried me (some explanation of what your goal was would have been nice). There just wasn't enough variety or challenge and unfortunately I had to quit at one point because it didn't feel like anything was happening.
You have a nice game here. Good concept, good visuals, good sound. You just need to flesh the gameplay out a bit more (soldier types?), (special levels?), just more content to keep me interested. Good Job otherwise!
@Call_me_Nutty Thanks for the long review and for noticing the particles. =) The difficulty level is an interesting problem, I did not want to make it to hard for someone who had never played the game so I settled on the first 30 levels being easy, and then introduce harder levels. Now that you mention it 30 was a bit steep, and 5-10 easy levels would probably be a better idea.
Always good to see someone pushing the boundaries of Pico-8 and making destructible environments and things work! Its a fun game that has plenty of challenge. Well done!
Very impressive
Nice idea, even though it's loosely based on lemmings it feels quite original. I would have liked a quick pause button, or a little time at the start of the level to plan, but other than that I really enjoyed it.
A very fun game requiring you to think fast about the puzzle. nice design and nice game, good job!
PARTICLES?!? DIRT AND RAIN! Whoa, that is seriously awesome! You also managed to fix that insane difficulty level from when I tried it early in development. Thats really impressive as well!
This game is actually a lot of fun to play. The difficulty level is pretty good, maybe a little on the lower side actually. I could play for a really long time before dying. Some variation as you keep playing would have made a lot of difference in longer playablilty, but hey, it's 48 hours. This is a solid entry. One of your top entries even!
Really original, cool idea! A bit confusing at first, but once I figured out what I was doing, I picked it up nicely. Lovely graphics and presentation. Overall, a good effort :D
Fun little game ! I feel like the difficulty curve could be more steep though (even tough I only made it to level 13 ...)
I made it to level 23 on my first try. Seemed there was a degenerate strategy of just clearing out everything underneath and letting them fall all the way... though that failed on a level where they were almost immediately falling to their death and I had one stuck pixel covered in blood I couldn't find an erase until the final crusader flew by =).
Love the look and feel, nice a simple and clean, but fluid feeling with the particles and smooth movement.
Wow what a fantastic idea and game! Really polished feeling too.
I found the game speed to be a bit on the high side though, which made reacting to death drops when a new level first starts rather difficult and somewhat random feeling. I feel if the game was slowed down a bit more, with a speed-up button applied so the game doesn't slog down, it'd feel a bit more fair. Obviously just a random thought, and the chaotic nature with the current speed is already pretty fun as it is.
Regardless, awesome work!
Had a great time playing thanks! It was an effective mash-up of the genres. Retro style was great. Some of the crusaders were hard to reach but I assume that's part of the random level generation?
Perfect LD entry! Easy to learn, great fun. I think if you could introduce one other element or mechanic that would give it a bit more depth (force some more interesting choices) then this could be a great mobile game. Really cool!
Neat game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 41 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBigr-DBUjI
Awesome! really funny!
Good job! Cool game!
I rate your game, if I can give a game in my game, Witch's Escape.

yay for pico-8 entries! :) I played a lot of lemmings and worms as a kid, so this was fun to see. Really cool how you can dig away and create paths/tunnels.
If you have time, check out my entry: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/golden-beak-golf :)
@mrspeaker agree on the one more mechanic thing. I had a lot of time to spare (like 9 hours) but I was a bit to tired to think of anything more to add. =)
@candlesan yes, everything was random so sometimes things did not really line up
Interesting little game
Cool Graphics i love the 16 bit sounds. I dont know if this is a Bug or its is just a guard watching them falling this thing didnt move. i thought this will fall after I dig around him. But overall its a fun game. Good Job.
g1.JPG
@EkkoEkko He's a lost crusader. If you come close to him he'll join your crusade. =)
@nilstastic Ohh i see. I didnt read the mechanics lol. Thats why maybe you need to make a tutorial scene for the guys like me that is not reading the mechanics hahaha By the way its fun to play Good Job
Very nice entry. Great use of the theme, innovative game mechanics + it's fun!
Hi! Lemmings are cool! May be you can add cost for every click? This will be add difficulty to game
@LemonBalmGames Thanks, glad you liked it! =)
@Alex13 Yeah i was thinking about that, but i did not really want to limit digging (since it feels kind of nice). I'm thinking (if i get around to it) of adding treasures and traps to challenge the player, that might do the trick. =)
The concept was really cool, I liked the game overall. Seeing your suggestion of adding treasures and traps is really a nice idea I think, and I'd really like to see a version including such features someday
The game was pretty great. I liked the idea. I love these tiny sprites, they're so cute, I was so sad when they died :'( . Was so funny, my best score was level 13.
I didn't know what I was supposed to be doing until I saw your gif on this page. BUT It's easy to pick up, good sense of humor, and I like the graphics. Cool game.
Really fun even though I always lost
I had lots of fun playing, the only thing you sould maybe add is some kind of a delay at the beginning, which allows the player to create a track for heroes and when it launches, they go in waves. Otherwise, realy good design, I realy like the collision interraction (you cannot do this kind of this in the engine I'm using) and that there's not bugs in the game. GOod job and keep on going ;)
Level 18!!! This was fantastic! one of my favourite entries so far! Very impressed with this. Well done!
fun game! love the art and sounds its so cool to see pico 8 games entered! good job :)
Nice game. I found it confusing at first since I didn't understand what I should do but when it became clear, it was a lot of fun. I like the idea and the art of those tiny crusaders. In some levels, I think it is impossible to get the lost crusader. Also it is a little bit weird when I remove the ground beneath him but he stays afloat, I think it may make more sense to make him fall but only join the crusade if he was touched before leaving the screen. Great work.
Simple, but really funny and theme-fitting. It definitively deserve a place in my favourite tab. A fantastic time-killer and a solid LD entry. Cheers!
I was looking forward to playing this, and it turned out very well indeed. It's quite challenging to frantically dig a route once one crusader dies, before the rest all pile in after him. I love the graphics and sound design, and as a fellow PICO-8 dev I'm impressed that you managed to pull off things like randomly-generated, destructible terrain, and dynamic blood splatters.
I think it's weird to see lost crusaders just randomly hovering in mid-air when you start a new level, and I can see from the reviews that I'm not the only one it confused. Dunno how easy it would be to change the engine so that they're always on or under the ground. Kind of a nitpick, though. Overall, a very good entry!
Love the graphics! Some crusaders just pops in the air and that's strange sometimes. I think crusaders are too fast, so it's not so funny to dig and to see them falling so easily. Could be fun with some trap somewhere ! Nice job by the way.
Awesome game. A bit stressful as you have to react very fast once a new level starts, but also very fun.
Really cool game. I love the graphics, the dirt particles effetcs and all.
Sometimes the levels are hard because the first path of the characters lead them to the death :/
I tried to beat your record but I did 26.
I like the procedural aspects of this game, in general it's really cool. It's hard to tell what the goal is at first. Due to the procedural nature of it the first few levels didn't have any falling deaths so I didn't 'get' it. It eventually clicked though
Fun fact, this game's sooo relaxing when playing on a graphic tablet ! But I played it a few time, and the levels never changes. Too bad they're not actually procedurally generated ingame.
@Amour Du Pain The levels are procedurally generated (cellular automata) with a fixed seed so that people could compare results and learn from past mistakes.
A lemmings style game, made with pico8 ? I love it!
Crashes around level 16-17 for me. Not sure how the later levels are but I could pretty much just clear out everything underneath and then just dig down for every level. Maybe change it so they won't survive too long a fall even if nothing is underneath? That way you have to think about the path and work downward more slowly which would add some challenge. Concept is neat though.

Great entry! Love the particle effects, and it's nice to see another PICO-8 entry.
Some criticisms: - the crusader to rescue for an extra life is a bit unclear in-game; I though it was just a graphics bug until I referred back to the text - using procedural levels is cool and probably let you include a lot more content than possible if hand-authoring them, but it also means that the game felt unbalanced. I found that the levels were all way too easy, except for the occasional one which feels way too hard and starts off immediately funneling your guys into a pit - you should probably hide the native cursor with a bit of extra CSS so it doesn't double up on the in-game cursor - there seems to be a bug where there's a second in-game cursor baked into the map
Overall, it's a neat idea. I think it needs a bit more complexity in the game design for it to be compelling, but as-is it's a solid prototype!
Cool game! I liked making paths to rescue additional guys, but it was difficult to cave a pixel-perfect staircase when I wanted them to go back up (since they couldn't climb 2 pixels)
Lovely little crusaders! Very fun game with the lemmings look well implemented. The random factor of the stages makes all the stages somewhat similar provoking difficulty progression to be triggered by the occasional "cliff" level. Some way to influence that factor to be inreasing with every level or other threatening element would add an interesting develop of the crusade. I missed some style matching music. Excellent work!
Pretty cool idea, with more work this could easily stand alone as an original game. The recruit-able crusaders are a great incentive. I wasn't sure if the difficulty was supposed to ramp up with levels; each screen was pretty short regardless. One suggestion would be to somehow give a moment for the player to see each new screen before the team falls since they would often immediately descend in the wrong direction for me. Otherwise, very unique and clean!
Amazing sprite art and ideas, well done!
really fun and simple game.
I liked the digging mechanic a lot. Seemingly simple game but so fun. I had so much fun playing this. Took me a few tries to understand they fall and SQUISH if u're not careful :D nice and pleasant are and very old school arcady sounds which i liked!
I lost at level 24, it was very fun!
Really beautiful yet simple mechanism. Everything works well together: music, graphics and sound effects, perfect for pico8! I enjoyed it and memories of the lemmings that your game make remind are so fun! Thanks and cheers for this entry!
That's really great entry! I enjoyed every bit of it and spend like half hour plaing it! Really addicting!
Check out our entry here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/educational-beat-em-up-punches-delivered-with-math
Great game! It is fun and responsive, and reminds me a lot of both Lemmings and older games with destructive levels. As always with Pico8 games: graphics are really cool and interesting. About sounds, it is correct but I'd appreciate some music, a simple one at least. Nevertheless, doing a pico8 game in a jam is double the effort, so congrats. Nice work!
Pico8 is a cool system to work in, and making a destructible terrain game like this is pretty impressive. All the issues I've encountered have been covered by other players above, so I'll leave it to them. If you wanted to go back to this and add new ways of clearing or generating terrain, you could have something special here!
Really nice gameplay. It stays fun for quite some time! I had issues with crusaders being stuck at the screen while they did not seem to participate in the crusade. Nice entry though!
I made it to level 13! Super fun game, I got a bad memory access on my first try though, and sfx would be awesome.
I think this is a cool game that deserves a post jam version :P
Congrats!
Very cool game.
Fun and cute take on the theme. What a shame the levels are always the same, even though they are procedurally generated.
Very fun game mechanics! Music and art fit well.
The only thing is that levels seems to be pretty much alike, so starting from levels 7-8 it is difficult to distinguish the growth of challenge form level to level
