First thing first, the game looks gorgeous ! As for the gameplay, I'm rather on the fence. On one side it's very satisfying and always pushes you to try to get better and on the other side it suffer from a wonky camera making the whole experience a bit frustrating ...
Anyway, still one of the best game I've played yet, gratz !
God was that hard ! It ended up being so frustrating that me and my friend got on the same keyboard to finally the 2nd boss ! But damn was it satisfying when we did so !
Appart from that everything is more or less top notch, from the graphics to the audio, gratz !
The concept isn't really innovative but is well applied here. 6 levels are definitely too much though, I got enough of the game by the end of the first level. Maybe you should have tried to do one big map and force the player to move forward ?
Great pixel art anyway, fits the game well !
Even though the game is very simple, the dashing and reflecting mechanics are very satisfying to use and I have no problem imagining how you could expand on it and make a more fleshed out game !
Unfortunately, the game suffers from a severe lack of polish ...
A nice little game anyway !
Amazing game ! The concept is simple yet really sucks you in ! Level 3 scared me (shame on me) so I stopped at level 2 but I could already see the idea being expended onto a full game
As for the cons, it is definitely confusing at first but that is a recurring flaw of Ludum Dare games that have a lot to show in a short amount of time. The game could also help a bit of background music :)
I totally get you when you say balancing the game was hard ! That was also our main concern when developing our game, it's really hard to gauge the difficulty when you've been playing it for 3 days ...
Anyway, gratz for the submission !
Really good management game for a 3 days jam ! It's really satisfying to discover new building/functionality and adapt accordingly.
The main drawback to me is the lack of speed up option. Once you managed to set up a durable "city" it's rather boring to wait for the next building/research (I'm writing this review while the game is running in the background :,) )
As for tutorial, I must agree with the other reviews, a little explanation of the basics features wouldn't have hurt.
Gratz for the submission !
The core gameplay is simple, maybe a bit too much. Once you understood what is the goal, the levels fly by without much variation. It didn't felt like the game was getting harder, just random level after random level. It is fluid though, and the graphics are rather nice ! Gratz for the submission !
A very good game ! I really liked the variety during the various wave as it always force to adapt to new situation. It felt a tad sluggish thought, maybe the gameplay would have benefited from a more fast-paced action ?
Either way, gratz for the submission !
Hey ! Nice to see fellows Godot users ! I liked the game ! It felt a bit clunky at first because it wasn't sure where i needed to click on the ennemies to attack, but once i got the hang of it it was quite satisfying to cut down those samurais ! Art and music are good too ! I don't really have anything else to say, it's a nice game overall (Ok, I may have one thing to say but it's more nitpicking than anything else : you should look into theme and GUI skinning to customize those default Godot button, our team learned that the hard way this LD ... )
Congratz on the submission !
It's always surprising to see such a fleshed out game as a Ludum Dare submission ! The voice acting is absolutely top notch, and along a lot of little details, result in a very nice atmosphere.
Unfortunately, the gameplay feels a little bit behind in comparison, almost like it's here just to satisfy the theme ...
Anyway, congratz for the submission !
My team and I tought about going with a very similar idea ! As for the game itself : music and art are very good for a Ludum Dare game, it feels very polished overall. The gameplay is simple but it does the job.
A good proof of concept for a more fleshed out game !
Merci le rondin, รงa fait plaiiiiz ๐ !
Art, sound and design are really good for a Ludum Dare game. The whole level feels a little bit too much maze-like, maybe it would have deserved to be more ordered. The gameplay is classic but well implemented
As for the game's difficulty it's way too easy in my opinion. Not once did i get hit, making the whole "sacrifice" theme inexistant.
But it could definitely be a great game with a few tweaks, congratz on the submission !
Feels more like a prototype than a full game but still nice. I agree with the critics above, the manholes' physics are a little bit frustrating. And I think you went a little bit overboard with the bloom effect on the street lights :,)
Gratz for the submission !
Very cute game ! Planting a tree and moving being set on the same key felt a little bit weird at first but appart from that, gameplay was smooth ! Too bad the game is missing audio ...
Congratz on the submission !
By far the most impressive game I've played, leagues above the rest. It's amazing enough to make a good story-centered game, but you went and add a nice gameplay on top of that.
The combat mechanics could have deserved to be more explained (especially the part where the vampire cannot move, turn and attack in the same turn) but that's really nitpicking at this point.
Congratz on the submission !
The atmosphere of the game is definitely it's strong point ! The light and sound effects are on point (the helicopter flying by is a nice touch !).
As for the rest it felt like it could have been more polished ... I kept loosing on my first tries because I didn't understand I could use the moss to start the fire :/
Still, gratz on the submission !
@mosegames Sorry, it's fixed ! We found some game-breaking bugs while finishing up ... Feel free to try again
Well that's one unforgiving game, good thing I like those ones.
The controls felt really responsive and coupled with the fast pace of the game made it really nervous, probably not a good idea if you want to appeal to a broader audience though, but I definitely liked it.
But unfortunately, starting from the beginning every time you die is waaaay to brutal, couldn't get myself to try to get past lvl3 ...
Remember that for your next LD, if you even think it's too easy, it's still probably too hard ! Still, gratz on your first submission !
At every LD I have this idea of an idle game but never acted on it, it's nice to see what it could look like.
Looks really polished, but unfortunately I didn't feel incentive to keep after the first few upgrades, like the game was missing something ... But I definitely think you built really strong foundations ! And boy did you really hit the nail on the theme :,) !
Congratz on the submission !
I always really like seeing more experimental entries rather than classical games, it's always a nice change of pace. The message is quite clear, I'd say you managed to convey your ideas, the soundscape is a hit.
Gratz on the submission !
The physics works really well and the art combine with the happy music makes for a nice atmosphere ! Unfortunately, I did get stuck several times waiting for the water to rise, breaking the pace of the game ... The level design was frustrating at times and could see some improvements.
Nice submission overall, gratz !
A great game overall, you really nailed the atmosphere (graphics and audio) and it was quite addictive once you get into it ... But damn was it hard to get into it ! The game would benifit A LOT from simples tooltips and instructions explaining how the UI works as it's far form ergonomic in its current state :/ .
Anyway, congratz on the submission !
What a cute submission, played it through the end ! I really love to see original or experimental ideas, it's quite refreshing. I think you really nailed it with the atmosphere (the day/night cycle and the fireflies are a nice touch).
20/20 game to play high, congratz on the submission !
Nice moody game with a bold theme.
It's definitely not too ambitious and that allowed you to really polish the end result. Gameplay wasn't really fun but enjoyable enough to get to the end and convey the message.
Solid overall, congratz !
@leorid You're definitely not blind :,) ! We took your criticism into account and added it afterward, you were right that a retry button bind to the Esc key on a web fullscreen game is not really ergonomic ... Anyway, it means a lot that you went back to the game even after trying it once, thanks a lot !
The game is much more polish than your average submission, you did wonders with the extra time ! Props to the tutorial, way too many games skip on it, it feels good to not have to guess how everything work.
As for the gameplay itself, it's very simple but it's a nice idea for a jam, and it nicely fits the theme !
The icons of the skeletons and goblins were a little bit too similar imo (you maybe could have used a tad more colours ?), but that's just nitpicking. Congratz on the submission !
Every LD I'm always tempted to try a visual novel type of game and every LD I realized that I could never have reached that level if I tried ! The visuals are gorgeous, the soundscape is on point and the story is very touching. I don't really have anything bad to say, congratz on the submission !
The visuals really fit the arcade feeling of the game. Unfortunately, the controls felt waaay too sluggish for me, as if I was controlling a boat in space :( I think I would wave enjoyed a more nervous gameplay.
Any way, it's still a nice submission, gratz !
Scored 511 !
The twist on the tower defense genre is nice and the balance of the game with its ressources is quite good.
The pixel art is OK but I would advise you to stick with a set color pallet for all of your sprites next time.
The soud effects are getting ... painful after some time :grimacing:
Overall, a nice submission, gratz !
Really nice twist on the dungeon crawler genre ! It adds an unexpected layer of depth. It was quite fun to ponder on what was the best option. I came reeeally close to winning 3 times in a row in normal mode so I guess the balance is on point :,)
I would have liked a way to speed up animation, when you're on your fourth run it can really slow down the pace ...
Gratz on the submission, pretty solid for a solo dev
Very deep and inspiring ending, moved me to my core
Jokes asides, nice submission, game doesn't try to be more than it is and it's nice that is doesnt take itself too seriously. If I had to raise a point, it would be about the music, it was too slow for my taste for the game. It would have been nice to have the tempo of the music fixed on the speed of the bird so that the sound effects are in rhythm.
Nice job !
Impressive result for a 3D game, unfortunately it seems the camera was kinda buggy on my computer, the tiniest of mouse movement would send it flying so I was forced to played without being able to move my view angle ...
The textures while simple really fit well together and coupled with the dramatic music the game have a very polished feeling to it.
Would have like to reach the end of the level to see the game as a whole but couldn't due to the camera :(
Congratz on the submission anywais !
Unfortunately rather buggy, my balloon could not rise more than a few meters and it seemed to collide with lots of invisible walls ... A 3D game was ambitious for a first LD, bravo for having succeeded in producing something!
For the next ones, I would strongly advise to add in-game indications, simple texts that display the in-game commands are enough. The background music is very nice, simple but largely sufficient!
At each LD I always have the idea to make an idle game, which could run in the background while people test other games. They could come back to it between 2 games and see the evolutions. So imagine my disappointment when I realized that your game was only running when the tab was active :( That, combined with the fact that the balancing is not up to scratch made me not go very far.
But congratulations anyway for producing something for this edition!
Really good game, it's a perfect fit for a jam, not too ambitious, simple but pleasant aesthetics, easily understandable gameplay and you even added several levels !
I would say that it's a pity that there is no background music, even a simple royalty free music would have added a lot to the atmosphere. I also regret the absence of a restart button, the last 2 levels are hardcore!
Congratz on the submission !
This concept was great and well executed ! I really enjoyed playing and trying all the turets to see wich one was the best and how could I go futher in the game, I was really into it actually, wich is a good thing ! Bravo !
Best game reviewed so far ! It really pushes you to get better at it.
I was a bit lost at first, a good idea would have been to show the help screen manually at least once in order to have a better understanding of the mechanics.
Probably the best game reviewed so far ! It feels extremely polished, hard to believe what someone can do in 48h :D
The art is minimalistic but yeat very clear, the music doesn't drive you crazy after 3m and the control definitely feels responsive. I've only got one gripe with the game : I really dislike how you can be sent one level back ... I spent something like 5m trying to get past a level only to be sent back to it as soon as I started the next one ... really frustrating :(
Congratulations !
This game is great, the concept is very good and well executed, and the music was so chill and pleasing, not the anoying thing that we can see on LD games sometimes ! I also really like that the laser could destroy block and not only kill monsters, this is great !
I dont' know if anyone point it out in the comment already but I'm not sure if the proceduraly generated level is the best idea, you can probably do great level by hand with such a concept ! In my opinion levels were very fun but a bit simple, handmade level could have make things a bit more tricky =) (but level design is very time consuming also, soooo idk...)
Good joob anyway, I really enjoyed playing your game ! (and sorry for my english, i'm french ^^')
Nice game ! Feels more like a top-down shooter with ASCII graphics but that's just a detail :p
Appart from that you really nailed it ! Props to the audio, it's not that common to hear different music throughout the game, even if they were simple, that strongly participated in the general atmosphere.
The only gripe i have with the game is the bullets hitbox, you should have made them little bit bigger than what they really are. Showering the ennemy in bullet and seeing them brush him without connecting is somewhat frustrating ...
Anyways, congratulation on your submission !
This game was great ! Very cool concept, and well excecuted. A bit too hard for my little brain ^^ There is a little issue when you try to fullscreen i think, but appart from that I had great fun playing your game !
Oh and I got the exact same comment from hkoisumi... This is fishy...
This game is great ! Seriously this is the kind of game / concept I would pay for on steam ! You did an amazing job ! Great marks and every category ! Bravo !
I don't know if this come from the PC version, but there is still somme bugs : - random green text appearing sometimes - lock to the level 2-0 with no possible end ?
The art as well as the animations are really impressive ! The character feels responsive and is really satisfying to play but the level design is pretty ruthless (those geysers man !)
Seems like a solid prototype for a platformer game !
Nice pixel art and cool concept ! I'm not very skilled but I like this game a lot ! Other type of object to do tricks on would have be sooo awesome =)
Really solid game you published here ! Once you played 2/3m everything go smoothly, but I had some trouble at the start. Maybe you should have, at least, add a screen of the inventory in the "thing to know before playing" ? It was quite hard to understand everything with the wall pressuring you.
All in all, a really good game ! I found myself tryharding to reach the end !
That fact the control are really different from a car simulation that we are used to actually make the game more fun ! This is great ! I was absolutly not ready for the zombies coming at the first beacon ^^
Conclusion : I had fun, this is great =D (but the AI of other cars seems a bit OP ;) )
This game was great ! I mean, the amount of polish on this game is unbelievable ! Great graphics, great animations, camera shake, sound effect, well designed levels ! This is amazing !
A little music was the only missing thing... (and i'm happy to see a Godot game hehe :) )
Wow, this game was great, I mean, the concept, the graphics, the sounds effect. I am amazed by the level of polish of this game !
But I found a little bug : Score is not reset between games, the only way is to restart the game. So I was like : "Yeah I got 4000 points on this one ! I'm improving ! But in fact the score was just added from the previous try ^^"
(sorry for my bad english, I'm french)
The idea was good, a bit sad that you couldn't do a bit more ^^
The mix between the two dimensions is really well controlled, having the sun as an help was a nice idea !
But the game definitely suffer from a crazy difficulty ... You should have made the jump sections easier and focus on the puzzles more, you were on to something !
Just finished a few runs. It's rather pleasing to play, I love the work done on the particules ! One thing though : I struggled a bit to understood the "attack" mechanic, especially since blocks spawned ON the tutorial images
I like the idea, you managed to make everything fit so well !
The game feels really hard though ! Despite many attempts i always get rekt by the two guys once they cornered me. But I still really like how the game pushes you, I don't find as frustrating as I could in other game for exemple, dunno why ...
Anyways, Gratz !
I love that game, everything from the art style to the idea itself is so simple yet perfectly executed !
There's a little bug tough : every time the turtle walk on a checkpoint, it "explode" again (even if it's already taken)
Fun little game, the Tinder phases seemed too short to my taste, I liked them
Otherwise the fighting part is really well done, Gratz !
I don't know if you are a superhumanoid robot or if i'm a noob ^^ But I didn't manage to go far without the "G" button help. The graphics are super cool and the controls too once you get them. But the difficulty is soooo hight, to much for me at least ^^
Great graphics, animations and sounds ! This was very pleasing to play !
What a great game ! Beautiful low poly, a great and well executed idea, I was a bit sad to see the end and wish there were more differents kind of "tiles" =)
@Damienp Ahah thank you :) ! As for the bug, I had no idea, it was working fine when I implemented that mechanic ... thank you again ! getting to work to fix it right now !
@ccglp Thank for the review ! Actually it was planned to handle that case in the tutorials but time came too short ...
@HKoisumi I saw the exact the same comment from you for another game... Are you just copy-pasting it and not even playing the game ?...
@microwerx Yeah I totally agree with you, I should have done that. (you can go to the pause menu to restart quickly, wich is a bit better but not a solution to the problem, maybe a checkpoint system would have been a good idea) Thanks for your review !
@drikdrok Yeah I totally should have done that, this is a great idea ! Never come to my mind to do that while coding the game, that could be a great improvment. Thank you for your review
@SandBloom Thank for the review ! Checkpoints are definitely a thing I would implemant if I were to do it again, you never how hard/frustrating your game can be when you already master it ...
@Markus That's so heartwarming to hear ! Sorry to disapoint you ... If I knew some people would go this far, I would have surely hid a worthy reward !
@silkworm_sweatshop Ahah I'm ashamed I didn't find it myself. I would have love to have the time to hide little easter eggs like that !
This game was great ! The concept is very innovative with sleek design ! The fact that you can finish the game without having to use the card mechanic (by avoiding the enemies) is a bit sad... Maybe a bigger area of view would have been a bit better ?
Great graphics and music ! But a bit slow in my opinion (i mean the boat is slow, the rythm is great !)
I actually enjoyed speaking to everyone and try my best to find the murderer on the first try ^^ And I don't know why but I found the background so cool !
I also think that you did a great job with the music, it was simple and discret enought to keep it on without needing to shut if off after 20 sec because it was so anoying (like many games here x) ). (sorry for my bad english, I'm french)
A really good concept ! However, it felt a bit unfair as there was no real way to deal with the turret. A way to preview the path of the bullet would be a great addition and would emphasize the "turn-based" side of the game !
Good job for your fisrt jam, great graphics ! Your game reminds me of worms !
Fun little game ! I feel like the difficulty curve could be more steep though (even tough I only made it to level 13 ...)
Very pleasant game to play, to rocket jump coupled with the ability to make bullets rain is very satisfying ! The only cons I can think of is that the "stealh" part of the game almost feel non-existant
Wow, I'm totally loving it ! Keep trying and dying again, my best score is 10 ^^'
Congratulation on releasing your first game ! The music definitely kick ass ! It was a good idea to not overlook the audio (edit : just saw you did not made it. A little bit disappointing but hey, that doesn't lower the quality of your game !)
The UI and levels, while basic are very clean.
I don't know if it was done on purpose but the fact that the bullets movement aren't "bound" to the turns help blend the typical fast-action pace of top down shooters and the more static one of turn based games !
Great concept ! The ability to kill you at the end was a great surprise ! Very fun idea =D
Great job ! For me this is the best card based game i've seen so far on ludum dare !
I really liked the fact that you have to take time to plan your actions before acting at the 3~4 last levels. Or the jump level when you have to see wich of your card will be a jump as fast as possible before falling on the spikes, this was great level design with a great concept !
The game is also quite well polished ! I just regret the amount of level (I made a platformer too and level design was very time consuming for me too. So i think this is hard to do more in 48h)
Extremely fun game to play with friends !
That umbrella balancing game is hard though !
Definitely love the concept !
Nice little game you submitted here ! It seemed really hard at first but once you got the hang of it, the tank let itself be maneuvered without much of a hassle.
As for the cons :
-The game definitely lack of a button to speed up things when you are in a long corridor -A mechanic to stash pieces would have been a nice thing to have (it can be frustrating to dump pieces into the board to get the only one you need)
Congratulations !
