Nice to see a Godot game!

Fun and challenging - only made it to 5 cores. Didn't see the theme's combination of genres, but enjoyable non the less.

james-dunlap 2018-04-23 21:46

Saw part of your Twitch stream as I was taking a break and had to put your game on the list to try. I found it very interesting, but also quite difficult. It would have been nice to know what my limit was on each kind of weapon and how many I had so that I would know when placing one would erase one I already had. I found all six towers, but could only get five activated at any one time.

I did experience a weird issue where after playing for a while, I got very slow. It did not effect my firing, just my movement.

Great job.

javasaurus 2018-04-23 21:57

Really fun game, interesting concept and amazing art ! Really enjoying the visuals :) Keeping this one on my list, thank you

nerzal 2018-04-23 22:00

Amazing Game! <3

angelbait 2018-04-23 22:17

I super super super LOVE the music manager, it absolutely MADE the mood of this fun game. Thank you!

markopolodev 2018-04-23 22:24

@selfsame > Didn’t see the theme’s combination of genres

My reasoning is * metroidvania -> explore, find powerups * tower defense -> defend from waves of enemies using towers

I struggled a lot at the beginning trying to come up with something, best I could do =\

@James Dunlap > would have been nice to know what my limit was on each kind of weapon and how many I had so that I would know when placing one would erase one I already had

Yeah, definitely something I would add. I counted on players trying to place as many as possible as soon as they found one, but apparently only I do that :D

> I did experience a weird issue where after playing for a while, I got very slow

Full disclosure, I've not played it for more than like 10 minutes straight, so there could easily be some weird lag issues. Sorry about that :(

@JavaSaurus @Nerzal @Angelbait Thanks! :D

olivier-millochau 2018-04-24 15:48

Great graphics, animations and sounds ! This was very pleasing to play !

joqlepecheur 2018-04-24 22:27

Visual homogeneity is great, there is a personality to it. I like the facts that shots sounds are soft, and the dancing things is a nice touch.

The level was a bit too "vertical" to my taste. It was cool to go up, less cool to go down (also I don't have a qwerty keyboard so I appreciate when there are also arrow keys in addition) I didn't find a way to erase a turret other than to spam, but that would erase other well placed turrets. The more you can strategize the better !

I feel this respects the theme well, and the idea could be built upon. Good job :)

johnny-turbo 2018-04-25 00:54

First off, fantastic looking game! I felt that you did a really good job at creating a unique mood and everything in the game feels like it should be there. Very good use of a simple color palette! I played this game for a good while but unfortunately found it too difficult. I think one of the main reasons for this was the "tower limit." I feel that I could not have enough towers to keep all of the enemies away from the cores to actually beat the game. I got pretty close to winning but some bug in the game caused me to not be able to move up anymore and so I got stuck in the lower right corner of the level :/

Anyways, I think what you made for this jam is really great! Congratulations on making a game in 48 hours!

lautregars 2018-04-25 01:18

A well-made, nice looking Godot game. The theme is respected, the gameplay is challenging but not too much ; I personnally had fun, as the game feel was neat.Overall, well done :)

markopolodev 2018-04-25 02:17

@joqlepecheur

> I appreciate arrow keys

Sorry about that, I hadn't even thought of non-qwerty layouts :slight_frown:

> I didn’t find a way to erase a turret

Yeah, there's not a way currently :\ I think it would be better to have an easy-to-see "turret inventory" and then when the player hits the limit prevent them from placing new turrets until they've deconstructed old ones. Sort of force them to go hunting for unnecessary resources they can repurpose.

> Good job :)

Thanks! :smile:

@Johnny Turbo

> unique mood, good use of a simple color palette

I wasn't sure if it would push people away, glad it appeals :D

> tower limit

Yeah, similar to above, tower usage wasn't totally clear; I've also had people complain about not being able to find the cores they were losing, so I think some kind of map or directional guidance might also be in order.

> movement bug: not able to move up

I've heard a few people mention movement issues, I'll see if I can hunt it down.

Thanks for the feedback!

@lautregars

> I personally had fun

Perfect, that's what I was going for :smile: Thanks for playing!

tyrod 2018-04-25 06:22

Great fun to play, I didn't manage (yet!) to break the chains but very challenging, nice graphics and cute little robot !

manbeardgames 2018-04-25 06:36

You did a great job with this one @MarkoPoloDev Had a lot of fun playing it and the graphics and audio are great. Controls incredibly well.

It took me a little bit to find tower three for some reason lol. I was able to find the others and then spent a good few minutes looking for that one.

slashee-the-cow 2018-04-25 07:56

I liked the graphics and the sound, and the basic idea of the gameplay, but I found it to be a bit hard - I could never get all of the towers going at once, and I couldn't seem to get enough turrets up while I went around to the other towers (do the turrets disappear over time, or just when there's too many of them?), not to mention I could only find tower 4 once or twice and never seemed to spot it again, so a minimap (or in my case, having a sense of direction) might help.

So I guess it's like a lot of the games I've played for LD: great work, just needs a bit of polishing (which always take about ten times as long as you expect it will).

goat-toaster-games 2018-04-25 14:07

Wow I really loved this! The mechanics felt so nice and I really enjoyed exploring. The kickback on shooting was also really fun, nice work!

bitsandcrafts 2018-04-25 22:34

Another game with very poetic art, music and mechanics. Awesome little game! I love the simplicity overall. The creatures are perfect. Can't find the way out. Big fan of your style/work @MarkoPoloDev GJ. Over.

krystof-klestil 2018-04-26 08:12

Everything in the game played so well together, I especially loved the art style and its consistency which immediately made me feel immersed in this new world. Exploration and tower building was fun even before I knew what I was doing. Sadly my laptop's audio doesnt work at all so I didnt have a chance to enjoy the music element, which Im sure would have been lit.

elfcirynn 2018-04-27 00:22

Phenomenal color palette, the pixel art was adorable, I enjoyed how the characters moved, and the music was delightful! I feel like this was a perfect Ludum Dare entry in that it effectively showcased all you accomplished in the weekend in a neat, polished and fun way! The concept was rad, and I again find myself looking forward to see what you do for the next Ludum Dare!

rebecca-kremer 2018-04-27 05:21

Excellent mood and color palette :) I really liked the concept and felt the stress of a tower defense game with the added interest of a platformer! I liked the little alien-shaped protagonist and would have liked to know more about them and their neon world. It's too bad about the audio glitches that didn't let me see the ending, but that's okay! I still had lots of fun and was very engrossed in it.

markopolodev 2018-04-27 07:15

One quick note: Thanks to @rebecca-kremer 's stream, a bug was discovered that more or less soft-locked the game. It's been fixed. If you were finding the game particularly unbeatable before, you might be able to finish it now. Sorry about that :frowning2:

croewens 2018-04-27 08:45

You can never go wrong with an alien-shaped main character :smile:

:heart: What I loved * I felt that you did a really good job at creating a unique mood * Smooth gameplay, fantastic visuals & such nicely polished!!! * That color palette though * Excellent music

:thinking: My Thoughts * No azerty :confused: don’t really like arrows * Was a little to hard / vertical at times * kickback on the shooting was epic

Loved it! I’d love for you to review my submission as well.

One of the most "feel good" games I've played - it had a real sense of innocence and involvement. The relatively minimal graphics were very well executed and added to the theme. The tutorials on the level without any popups were great too. I really adored the music building up. The down side is it wasn't too difficult, but it fell more like a story for me, like I was liberating little villages or something :D you should be proud of your effort dude!

stardynamic 2018-04-29 03:49

Hi. Just saw your game on stream. The weapon movement reminded me of cave story :D The mechanics seemed well done and easy to understand. Looking forward to your next game!

diego-escalante 2018-04-30 04:11

Really fun game! I like the way the tower defense aspect of the game worked, although I wish tower placement was a little more critical to winning. But I had a great time just exploring. I liked the visuals, the blue scheme was very pleasing.

kurt-roembke 2018-04-30 18:22

Very nice job on the atmosphere, graphics, and music!!

alferbayter 2018-04-30 22:17

Beautiful game, the graphics and audio really immersed me. One problem I had is that I didn't understand the target mechanic, not sure how to make it easier to understand.

puppetmaster 2018-05-01 15:38

I like the visual implementation and the different effects very much. I also think the introduction with the texts is well done. I really enjoyed playing.

gaming-night 2018-05-04 11:39

Wooo, really nice visuals here. Simple and very beautiful at the same time :)

gamesplusjames 2018-05-09 23:40

This game was really cool, I loved the artstyle and the music and sound design was really great. It was fun navigating around the level and the bounciness of the player character felt really nice. The was a fantastic entry, nice work! :)

lookslikesomething 2018-05-11 21:16

Beautiful game. It looks simple at first sight but is absolutely not. I failed to maintain all six tower on, but I really want to go back to this game later and try again!

Great job!

hisfantor 2018-05-13 12:31

I'm a little late too the party but that was great, very good genre combination and I really like the over all mood created by the graphics, sound and gameplay all working great together 🐧
