Truly a 5/5. I'd play it again! Would love to see a Post-Jam Version with even less content <3

I'd also like the idea of a bossfight. Although i was pretty bad at your game, it was fun to play!
I don't know if i did anything wrong, but i got a "You made it game will self destruct" and nothing happened. That was after like 90 seconds. So i don't know if i missed something. But the "story" was hilarious :D I cannot say anyhithing about the theme :/
Pretty fun little game. I like the music. i only wish, i could play in fullscreen
Played it and it's awesome :D i love the graphics
I like the gameplay pretty much :) Well done! I fear there is a bug with the music settings, when i set it to something below 50% i cannot hear anything anymore
This must be the best game ever!!
I like the idea, it would be cool if you could also set the the icons of the animals to keyboard keys, to have shortcuts
great game :D
That plot twist got me xD I stop waiting now :D
lovely art and music ! <3 loved to play it
You basically had the same idea as we had :D (flooding the level) Well done! :)
played and rated ;)
Pretty neat game, but i didn't manage to buy the powerup. The visuals and audio are awesome :D
thx for the feedback, i allready have a patch for that jumping thingy :)
@frostByte4k what do you mean with doesn't work? can't you jump at all, or does it bug sometimes?
@monyandere @ristoretto @swift @lonehearts @swini @gurbx
Thanks for your feedback! I apreaciate it.
I'll be working on a Post-Jam version, hoping to fix the movement and jumping issues. :)
@boyturnedrobot thanks I will work on the game in the next few weeks ^^ and thanks for the feedback
@nufflee Thanks for playing on twitch and thanks for the feedback
@pennycook thx for the feedback, yeah the controls will get an update in a post jam version ^^
@hovinarri thx for the feedback :)
@scott-purcival thx for the feedback, u may missed the hint, that you can hold "S" to fall/move through platforms
@james-dunlap thx for the feedback, we had no time to implement more puzzles in the 72 hours :D
@antoined73 @amba @chloroplaste @carlos-giraldo @capitals Thanks for the feedback.
1. The Controls, yeah in a Post Jam Version we will rework that. 2. The "raising thing" - "The Goo" is hand painted by me using gimp xD 3. The default skybox was overseen, we were a bit in hurry. Implementing the riddles and having 2 scenes loaded at the same time, while having a camera from that one scene render on the other was kinda complicated 4. It was intended that the cards puzzle takes longer, than the elemental questions, that's also the reason the chance to get a card puzzle is at 1/7 5. The Flashlight, yeah.. We had no time anymore :D we have some features planned for that
I hope i didn't miss a point.
We are working on a improved Postjam version, that (hopefully) fixes all these things. We also want the game to have more depth. We thought of the possibilit to stop the Goo or send the Goo to a specific direction, when certain criterias are matched etc.
Played and rated :D But i was very bad at the game ^^
I'm unable to beat the third level :D I love the design of the character and its animation. Your space is running out of screen so you met the theme perfetly.
The movement speed was a bit too high, but overall a fun game :)
Pretty neat idea! :D
Very nice game! Best "bullet hell" like game i ever played :)
Best SFX and Music in LD42!! <3
mwahahaha lets kill shrek :D
Pretty nice game! Green War is fun :D What i have to say is - EXPLOSIONS!! <3 Nice humor, nice graphics and nice gameplay!
Fun to play! :) i like fast typing ^^
Okay, i haven't really figured out how to play the game. Although i read the explanations in the comment section. Feels more or less totally random. But i love the graphics and the music :D Cats are the devil!
Controls were hard, but i guess that is due to holding on the blood infusion while being pulled by that ambulance. all in all a nice one!
Quite fun idea to kill businessmen with chicken :D
I played like 3 rounds :D but allways died to a broadsword dude hitting like a beserk :D I liked the ability to buy skills / passives to power myself up, aswell as looting enemies.
It would be nice to be able to hit enemies while running backwards. And it's kinda frustrating not being able to upgrade, when dieing, cause u end up in a die loop (if you suck like i did).
But i enjoyed it!
Nice graphic and sounds. It felt pretty challenging, but that may only be caused by my gimpness :) Well done!
Nice Game, i only have the feeling, that you cannot lose, is that correct?
I'll have nightmare from that laughing, and the pickup sound didn't really match the athmosphere. The music was a good choice and the graphics are neat <3
How to start the game? The console opens for a fraction of a second but closes and the game does not start on Win10
The best game i played on ld44 so far. Thank you!
Heyho, i made it to level 9 before i died. I did not manage a single time to upgrade my weapon :/ is there any trick? :D
Is there any end level, or just endless untill u lose? Was quite satisfying to kill all those damn birds! :) I did miss hunting musig! All in all well done!
Totally missing sound / music effects. I had to start some dark/sad ambient music on youtube :D The visuals of the boat and the upgrades are really nice!
Played it on stream, had fun :D BOB ROSS LIVES FOREVER!
I like to take taxes for from dead taxes :D
Really nice one! :D I enjoyed it, but once i realized how strong crossbows are, i had an easy live to win :D
Nice one, pretty hard but it like challenging games!
@darylsteak nope, didn't finish it. Died before doing so :D
The end came a little bit unexpected. But overall a neat game!
Hey! I just wanted to stream and playtest the game. Unfortunately it eats 100% of my GTX980M GPU, so i couldn't play on stream o_O
Very nice as expected. Good thing, that we can lower the mouse sensitivity now :D
Is there any way to regain hp?
Hey, does the game really end after level 2? Felt strange to end that sudden :D Nice graphics and music :)
@lex-randea Hi! Thanks for the feedback. Did you by any chance use mouse scrolling? Haven't noticed anything like random spell selection change till now.
I guess you haven't watched the embedded youtube video till the end? There you see some seconds of the level. But yeah we decided against a close up game play, because that wouldn't fit very well with the spell system. Atleast i think, that it wouldn't fit that well
Yeah, we haven't had time to play & rate other games yet. Will do that tomorow, when i have time again :)
@skalex thanks for the comment. Can you explain what you mean by jumping is "clunky"? :)
@team-on You have to click on the ground to cast spells. Spells should have a max range. The first three spells can be casted while moving. But you have to stand still for the fourth spell. And you should stand still for the soul leach spell, but there's a bug, so you can cast it while moving xD
@maxkyckling did you read the Spell explanation beforehand? :D Next time we'll add explanations in game. There was just no time left. But thanks for the feedback!
@b33thr33 thanks for the feedback :)
@maxkyckling From top to bottom: SkullExplosion - casts a little explosion. Can be casted while moving Poison - casts a poison. Can be casted while moving Teleport - teleports you to cursor position (idk the name) - Need to stand still while casting, does a lot of damage LeachSouls - Leaches the souls out of enemy bodies to heal yourself
@mike-inprinciple thanks for your honest feedback!
@wolf-flare try again now
@pcoridan thanks for your feedback! Yeah the game has some bugs, but fixing them would be to much i guess, as they are not game breaking. We'll definetly add explanations to spells/skills in the next games :D
Cute Cats! <3 Was to hard maths for me xD
As others said, the turn speed is really high, which makes it pretty hard. I also would like the idea of mouse based turining.
I couldn't figure out how to play. I could control the units, but don't build anything. Also the "how to play" button did nothing.
Still it looks neat :D Can't say much about the other things.
I f**ked up the youth! Yeah! Always wanted to do that. Perfect music and graphics :)
I sadly had a black screen. I could only see the buttons but not the actual scene. :/
Heyho! Neat game! :D It took me a while to understand that it costs money to respawn, till i understood the approach on "your life is currency". Next time i read the description before playing xD
I played it for longer than i initially wanted - guess that's a good one.
The thing that made me quit the game was the difficulty. The game would be even better, if the difficulty would increase by time :)
Neat game, i managed to trick the enemy ships by flying behind em :D but i couldn't manage to win the game
I love every part of it. The music, the sounds, the art the smooth camera follow. And how needs a brain? Just trade it!
I like the art and music stile, but i couldn't get throught he spikes. Unfortunately that's why i couldn't play through the game.
Short but nice. Only - why is the window soooooooo small? :D
It was kinda annoying that you stop when attacking. Made me die several times :D But nice graphics and sounds keep up the work!
I was also pretty bad at the platform jumps >.< Love the graphics and sounds :)
How to know what is a sin? Haven't manage to beat day 1
Was a rapper -> sin Ate domestic casts -> sin Was rich -> sin Snorted M&Ms -> sin etc. atleast for me xD
Heyho, i just tried the game. As soon as i managed how to jump (double jump) i got really far ahead of these red boxes. So i kinda missed a challenge in the game.
All in all a good start for your first jam! Keep up the work!
Played it on stream <3 Nice game! You may only want to fix the movement, if you walk in 2 directions. If you do that you get really fast.
Atleast i can tell, i did not find a bug :D Could be funny in a round of people betting real money :D
I gave the game a short try and here are my thoughts:
I only played it on the PC. I was confused by the "auto fire", when aiming at an enemy. This takes away the aim skill component. I saw some texture flickering, maybe caused by 2 intersecting objects, but only at one or 2 spots. The sounds and music was fine.
I guess as this seems to meant for playing on mobile devices, it could be more fun on these platforms.
Oh and i haven't understand what this games has to do with "Keep it alive"
The graphics were neat. I missed music a bit. I tried it 2 times, and sadly it wen't unplayable both times.
Hey, as allways i had fun playing your game.
Here are my thoughts about it: 1. The music was good. 2. The "windy" sound int he menu was very loud - a bit to loud. 3. As soon as i realized that i could cheat by pushing back the Heart as far as possible, to be able to clear the levels of all enemies without having to take care heart the game got pretty easy, as i abused this behavior. The heart also stopped following it's path when doing so, although it did start walking it's path again, when giving it a little push into the correct direction. 4. i like the graphics
Overall i did enjoy the game, and was a little sad, that it ended so fast.
I loved the graphics & sounds. These did perfectly match. I also noticed the love u did put into the background.
What i disliked is Jumping on the W Button. It took me a moment to get used to it.
Overall a nice, but very short game.
Here is my opinion:
The tentacles felt like bullet sponges. The information log on the left side was spammy. Was this an intended feature, or a bug? You forgot to set a skybox, a little bit more love on details like this could improve the experience I felt overwhelmed by the action. Some more introduction could improve this.
I did not finish the game (if there is a finish), because i felt overwhelmed by the action.
This game gave me a ridiculous amount of what the fucks per second in a positive way. I liked the music.
I like the torch mechanic, but instead of giving me sight, it took my sight by dazing/blinding me. So i just put it in the top left corner while playing, as it was easier to see without having the light anywhere near the middle of the screen.
The tiny (1 tile wide) platforms felt unfair, as i kept falling down instead of landing on them.
I liked the graphics, although i missed a background a bit. The music was fine.
Heyho i just tried your game.
Level 1 and 2 were pretty simple, and that was good to get a hint, of how the mechanics work. As i entered Level 3 i felt overwhelmed by the amount of solders, archers and stuff. And i did not mange to finish it.
I liked the graphics and the sounds. As i played it locally and not in the browser i did not encounter any problems with the dragging of the map.
I liked the fact, that you did not stop and restart the music between the single game-plays-rounds. The music itself was not annoying - and that is goood!
The controls felt good, as soon as i found out, that you can use the spacebar to jump. The mouseclick to jump, did not feel very natural for me, which is why i really appreciate the spacebar jump, although it was not noticed in the "tutorial".
The gem-collecting feature adds another level of competitive factor, as you can show off more skill by collecting the stuff AND reaching a certain depth compared to only focus on not hitting the rocks.
The arcade game style enables the player to have some competition with their friends and/or people on the internet. If you ever create a post compo verison of the game, such a feature would add great value.
Music - was missing :D i guess some breakound music would have added a nice touch to the game The sounds were on point, thrusters sounded like thrusters and well lasers made "pew pew pew", which is what i expect from lasers.
The controlls felt suprisingly good, so nice job on that.
The pirates seem to be "away" for a long time at the beginning, but came back for a revenge soon. If i had payed more attention, i would have been able to pew pew pew them down with my laserguns.
The tutorial was well made and teached me the important lessons, the gun was self explanatory, also all other powerups were self explanatory.
I liked the fact, that you can also shoot down asteroids, that might help in some situations.
Use of fuel and health felt reasonable.
All in all very enjoyable and relaxed game.
I loved your music. I loved the graphic of the game.
I really enjoyed the athmosphere of the game. Having 4 dwarfs each of them with their own skillset was a really good idea. I'm suprised how well this game looks and feels - and i'm also suprised, that you did not charge any money for it - i would have payed for such a quality (PS: i know, game jam games are free - but you get what i mean)
The controls are fluent, feel on point. The tutorial is wonderfuly placed, was not boring, told me everything i need to know.
The difficulty feels challenging - which is good. Having checkpoints helps preventing frustation, so this is fine.
I might be nice, if you add another button to switch dwarves in both "directions" instead of only one direction, so you can switch through your dwarves faster.
Thank u for that game!
I liked the music, it perfectly matched the tavern athmosphere. Graphics are perfectly on place.
Entertaining controls, with varying difficulty in each bottle. The highscore consists of 2 parts - nr. of bottles opened and the grade of the opening - which is nice, as it implements a competitive factor.
It seems to be a really nice game, to distract yourself in a lunchbreak of something like that at work and compete with others.
In a possible postjam version, some web-based-highscore feature would be nice!
Although the game itself is pretty simple, i really appreciated playing it, thanks for this submission!
The music matched the game - that is good The graphics looked really nice, i especially liked the fact, that you did put so much love into your configuration menu.
Being able to configure the mouse sensitivity was a game changer, as i nearly doubled my highscore after setting the sensitivity.
The HP-bar inside the bus window was a really nice idea, although it took me a moment to realize, that it exists. In addition to that it would have been great to also have the score (in meters) inside the HUD, as there was still enough room left.
I'd love to see some online highscore board if you create a post jam version of your game :)
The game feels really polished for a LD submission, good job on that!
Bonus Points: You have really put love into your UIs. We have visual and audio feedback on button hover, click etc, which is really nice!
The only "bad" thing i could find is the font on your buttons, everything else is polished and well done!
The music was fine although it was in contrast to the stressful situation fighting a malware and avoiding the walker.
The sounds were fine, never ever have i entered so many credit card numbers to random popups on my pc. That was fun to play.
The walker only visited me one time, and as i am not that bad at fast typing, he wasn't really a threat, as he only stole 2 keys in a timeframe where i was able to gather like 9 keys or so.
You might run into problems with firewalls/anti malware stuff etc, as you scan the filesystem for some folder names, but having some of my own folders in the game added a nice touch to it. It felt like i have to defend my own system - which is nice.
I also loved the bootup sequence :)
Only minor issue: It would have been really nice to be able to navigate though the filesystem using the keyboard. But i understand, that it might have gotten to easy if you are able to do so, cause its so much faster.
Short but nice game!
Hey everyone, thanks for your reviews! We really appreciate that :)
Here some notes:
It was part of the concept, to create the feeling of getting lost, when creating the map. While creating the level i got lost myself several times :D
When only following the right/left hand rule, you'll reach the end, but you won't get all pages, thats true, so you will have to explore :)
Story & Music was truly inspired by Lovecraft :)
The soundtrack is good, repetetive but not annoying. The sounds fulfill their purpose. The graphics are fine, the graphics for the story part were hilarious.
The story itself is - well nearly the same story as the Movie "the core", but thats fine, we have a good reason to drill into the earth.
We have 5 different triles, each of them fulfills their purpose. I found a "trick" to not go out of energy.
So we have to make some strategic decisions, while playing the game, which adds some kind of depth - wich is good.
Sadly i have not seen the bomb explosion - so i don't know if you have any nice animation or as you said "crappy" art for the story :D
As the map is randomly generated, the game has a replayability potential.
The music got quite repetetiv pretty soon. We had a clean userinterface.
The only real issue i encountered is the fact, that i was unable to mark & copy text fromt he game into the social media, as i am pretty good at making typos, which is not your fault, but i would appreciate a copy-text feature really much.
The amount of content was pretty decent for having only 72 hours to create content, so you have done a nice job on this one.
All in all i have enjoyed the game.
My main problem with this game is - i had problems to stop playing it.
We have a really relaxed music, totally not annoying, the sounds are also matching. The graphics are decent.
Controls feel a bit overwhelming in the first few minutes, but as soon as you understand the purpose of the weapons and how to aim, that is not a problem.
I loved the music, the alarm sound drove me crazy. I literally had no idea, why the alarm was set off the whole time, that drove me nuts, but i still had fun.
I loved the background story of that one guy. Likes clowns, greates wish - "kill someone". There there some nice jokes in there - i liked them.
I do not know if the seamonsters do any damage or good to the submarine, but they scared me, as i constantly feared, that they might attack me, and i did not find the "kill it with fire"-button. :D
The background graphics in general were very nice, i perceived them to be some kind of "trippy" in a good way.
I ended up being stuck on a "dungeon" (?), where i was unable to find the enemy. I wondered why the chests were lootable, even though the enemies were still alive.
The first (and only) enemy, i could find, was stuck behind the black background, only his hp-bar was visible.
I did not quite understand the features of the cards, i just won the combat by randomly smashing the buttons.
The music and art is great, and i bet a "finished" version of the game could be fun.
I'd say some kind of tutorial would be nice, as the combat system is confusing, atleast for me.
yu-gi.PNG
Music was not annoying and matches the stressful atmosphere.
The graphic style is minimal , but nice, having lots of demon hands grabbing for your live looks pretyt cool. I like the "death" animation of all dangerous thingies.
We have a neat tutorial explaining the basic concepts of the game AAND we can skip the tutorial, which is really nice.
Having 2 main tasks being fulfilled at the same time is fun, as we take care of incoming demons, while we have to power the elevator to not get spiked by the spiky spikes. Also we have to draw the signs on the wall, to beat the demons.
I did not understand blue/greenish eye thingies, i just tried to keep the engine going, while mostly ignoring that these eye thingies exist - but they still scared me.
The endboss suprised me in a way it killed me.
I have not yet defeted the endboss, but i'll have another try later on! Nicely done!
The music was great, although i skipeed a song to early (sorry for that). The graphics are beautiful. The story is great.
The riddles were fair and solvable in time. Only one riddle, was hard to guess. The controls were as expected (that means good), inventory was easy to find and control.
You have done a great job and i did really appreciate the fact that you have build a point & click adventure.
Hey there,
I'm sorry, that the following review is not that positive, but I try to leave honest reviews, otherwise you could not improve next time.
I don't know if bug or feature, but nearly every texture in the game was flickering. Also the feet of the main character tend to submerge into the textures - even on solid underground.
The dialogs were sometimes behind the trees, which made them very hard to read. As a non native english speaker for me it was hard to determine, if some sentences had gramatically errors, or if that is valid slang, but some dialogs felt off.
Also don't know if bug or feature, but the lighting effect on buildings/walls seems weird, so there is a bright circle on walls, when walking near to them.
As walking between & behind houses is possible - although maybe not intended? It would have been nice, to have some possibility to actually see the character. I have attached a screenshot to showcase that problem:
where-am-i.PNG
The music loop is very short, but the music itself matches the general athmosphere
And as a last thing, I'm not sure, what part of the game met the theme.
The soundtrack was awesome and added nicely to the athmosphere. The sounds like steps, reload, shooting did also match pretty good.
I liked the "riddle", and the origin of the solution for the riddle. The "huggers" were pretty call and a real thread, while not having another weapon beside the first one.
2 Issues: 1. You forgot to normalize the movement-velocity-vector, so moving diagonal was faster than moving horizontal or vertical. 2. sometimes the enemies tend to get "stuck" on a corner, so you have all the time in the world, to aim and shoot them in the head.
Really decent submission, i really enjoyed play ing the game.
The graphics were awesome, i loved the level of detail, that you put into the facial expressions, although simply made, they delivered the message. I also liked the music, it matched the general atmosphere, the voice acting was nice, but it sounded like spanish(?) would have been even better for the athmosphere, if it were made in english.
I don't know, if there was an actual end of the game, or if we were supposed to loop throught he memories over and over again - maybe i did not get the hint at the end of the playground after seeing the bad memories again.
All in all a very nice submission, i have enjoyed it!
Music fits perfectly fine. Sounds are also perfectly fine. Controls are on point, no buggy behavior or similar, just works as expected.
I love the grab mechanic, as you can use it pretty modular, you can do a "full grab" or just get a little boost into the direction you want to go.
You have added some exploration feature by hiding pearls in certain spots, measuring time and death gives the game - although it "only" has one level - a replayability.
Graphics are awesome.
Bonus Points for visual and audio feedback on the buttons.
I really enjoyed playing this game, thank u!
I liked the musing, but it disturbed a little bit, that the track restarted on each level, it would be better to let the track continue to play regardgless of level/menu etc.
A little movement animation would have been visually appealing. The controls are fine for this time of game.
I love the randomness int he level generation AND i love the fact, that you don't have to start in the smallest maze again, when losing, so you can try to beat "that" level again and again. The amount of time you get to solve a level seems to be fair.
The "fall down animation" is great, i loved it. Also the game over screen has been nicely done - good job!
And you have included a little tutorial in the game - bonus points for that!
I liked the music, because of the following reasons 1. We have a more relaxed track on the menu, which matches the "you are asleep - bro" athmosphere 2. We have a little less relaxed track ingame, which is perfectly fine, as the game isn't that relaxed to play, although it is about sleeping.
We reach really high speeds in no time, collecting the clouds, which is totally fine, but I'm just a bad player so my best try was around 30k.
I love the animation of the guy sleeping and the fact, that he is flying around in his underwear. The flapping arround of his arms and legs is really great - i loved that.
So the graphics are nicely done. Although it would have been nice, to have a better graphical representation for the colord blocks, as i don't understand, what these blocks represent. But this is only a really minor issue.
I liked the game, although i'm bad at such games.
Hey there! Sadly the game was unplayable on Windows10 Firefox & Chrome. It lagged very hard and the controls did not seem to do anything.
Gameplay: The puzzles get pretty hard over time. I especially liked the parts you multiple characters, which were controlled at the same time. That added new layer of thinking about the puzzles.
Delaying the actions of the items by certain amount of steps is really new to me. The game crashed in on level, cause the game didn't like what i have done :D
The concept of the controls was easy to understand and master, once you understand how the delay points work, which is cool!
Still some of the puzzles were "to hard" for me too solve within a limited timeframe on stream.
Considering that this is a compo entry, the amount of levels is really impressing! It's a little bit confusing, that you have to do an additional step, while standing on the goal of the level.
I like the way how you teach the player how to play the game. Adding features one after the other per level is a really good approach and it does not feel like a forced-boring tutorial!
Also it is nice, to be able to skip a level when failing to solve it. That prevents frustration! The possibility to skip animations for a faster paced gameplay is nice, but a little confusing. Having a short explanation somewhere would be nice. Sometimes this can lead to confusion, as the player might do an additional unindented step.
In one level, the player is red (dead) standing on the goal and can still finish the level, that feels a little off.
Graphics: I'm a fan of the loading animation of the game! :D I can see that there has been some love put into the graphics, the lava animation for example caught my eyesight. Also the idle animation of the character is neat.
Audio: It's a little bit confusing, that the music does not start at the first level The music is simple, but fullfils it's purpose. Also it is not annoying, which is a great plus. The sounds especially from the banana slides are great!
Humor: Idk, i guess i skip that voting, cause i have not seen any really humorous elements
Mood: You have created a nice atmosphere in your game. Controls, Visuals, Audio are really good matching!
Gameplay: The fact that i'm able to chose my keyboard layout is really helpful. I am really really bad at this game. Really bad. So bad!
Felt like playing twister with my hands on my keyboard and got totally confused after a few seconds! It has kind of a fun element to it though!
Although the highscore system do add a layer of replayability i'll not try it again to be honest, as i was just really bad. Sorry.
Graphics: The artstyle made me feel like a nuclear bomb commander in the 1970s who is desperately trying not to launch the nukes! That's a huge plus!
Audio: The music and the voice on the telephone really added to my frustration while failing to press the correct buttons. That is a plus! I just felt totally overwhelmed playing this game.
@adam-jewell we actually used standard shaders and did like nothing to achieve any better graphics :D
I suggest that you state the alternative mapping for your powerups in the description, as people like me might nervously try to find the option to change the keyboard layout before starting the game :D
Audio: We have a nice soundtrack, that perfectly matches the game. The "horror" music in the menu really prepares for what is coming. The sounds of the powerups do also add to the athmosphere
Menu: Visual feedback on buttons is nice The background really builts up athmosphere
Gameplay: Running away is really understandable, being caught in a small town while everyone is chasing you seems realistic. Ok? Ok! Ok? ... Nope!
We have different types of chasers right here, which really helps adding more difficulty over time.
We have powerups, but some chasers are immun to certain powerups, which is a great idea. I'd love to have some kind of "ultimate" power up, which could have been the best man, which comes in to save our ass for some seeconds. That could have been something like, he picking up a bycicle and driving you to the opposite side of the map.
Enemy AI - Some enemies seem to not Aggro, if you are just running circles in the outskirts of the town :D I guess a higher roaming range/distance of the standard chasers could add to the game.
That god damn smile on the brides face, when u lose the game and your life is from another dimension! :D
Graphics: Simple, but solve the purpose here. The coffee animation is cool and the disguise nearly made me lose track my own character.
The little sequence in the church is lovely.
Innovation: Yep, i've not yet played a game where i have to escape my own wedding, so thats fulfilled! :D
Mood: I really felt that guy! It's just understandable to run away, and i really did not want to get catched.
Fun: Having an online highscore really motivates to play the game several times, cause u wanna beat the other people on the board. So the main replayability comes from the highscore here. Maybe having one or two more layouts of the map could add to the replayability here.
Menu: We have visual and audio feedback on the Play and Settings button, but you forgot to add it to the close button in the settings.
I loved playing "a round of chess" against the death itself.
Graphics: The graphics are amazing and matching. The presence of the death while playing against him really adds to the athmosphere. All in all a good looking game.
Gameplay:
I also liked the introduction story sequence, it really helped building the athmosphere.
Beside the one bug i found, where i could place my piece right inside to the enemy piece i enjoyed playing the game. I felt like some of the earlier levels are harder than some of the mid-end levels. This could also due to the fact, that while playing the game, you gain more understanding of how to solve the puzzles. You instantly catched me with the gameplay.
If the game had more levels i'd play till the end. The end of itself of the game was a bit confusing :D
I was a little bit confused by the pawn being able to cover fields in all directions, cause the game stated standard chess rules in the beginning, but that is not a big of a deal.
Being able to continue the game where you left off is a really good feature!
Audio:
The chilled music fits perfectly, it's not annoying although the loop is pretty short. Good job here!
Theme:
Really good approach on the theme.
Innovation: A new approach to a chess based game i have not yet seen. Good job here!
Gameplay:
The feature that the screen went dark really killed it for me.
I felt like there was no Koyote-Time/GraceJump which would improve the feeling of the controls. I've just dashed through the complete level using the dash :D i'm sure that is not exactly the intended way to play the game, but dashing is faster than moving normaly, so i tried to be fast enough before i'm unable to see anything.
Dropping through platforms on the controller does not always work on the first time everytime. Sometimes it does, sometimes it dont.
Positively i realized that you have implemented modular jumping, which is always nice!
The part with the "down-attack" was a little bit confusing, as you cannot perform that attack, while standing still.
Graphics: I really liked the artstyle. The charcter animations looked really nice, despite the fact, that the is no blending of the animations when attacking while moving. Everything else looks really great.
Audio: The ambient sounds are amazing and add to the athmosphere The sounds in general are really good matching
Mood: Audio, Graphics ands also the "light goes out" feature go hand in hand creating a depressive and dark athmosphere. You've done a great job at this point!
In general: Without the light going out feature i'd really enjoy playing several levels of that game :)
You might want to edit your entry in itch.io for the WebGL version, cause the fullscreen button is hardly visible.
Gameplay: You are creating a kind of depressing athmosphere by the artstyle, the absence of music and the fact, that the player realizes pretty fast, that this is the end. Being able to carry only one item underlines this fact. At some point in time you'll lose ability to recover your axe and you have to sit in the house until the fire wents out.
The game forces you to find the best strategy to survive the longest, by chosing which tree to chop down and which logs to carry and take and when to drop the axe. That adds a layer of replayability.
I can only encourage everyone who reads this to try to explore a little bit ;) Some kind of timer could add an additional layer of replayability, as it would be nice to know how long i survived when trying different strategies.
The controls are straight forward and easy to understand. It's a short game but it still worth a shot!
Graphics: I really like the change of visuals, when entering/leaving the house The fire (while burning) looks cozy and warm and also visually is one of the only color sources in the game, which adds to the athmosphere that this is the only safe place around.
In general we have a neat art style here.
Audio: The storm starts weak but rages over time, that adds nicely to the atmosphere You have proven to show some love for sounds, when adding different types footsteps for inside and outside
Gameplay: I only managed to get to level 3, which feels impossible to solve. Atleast i have absolutely no idea how to. The general concept is cool though.
Also i was confused, if i need to jump into the door, as no further hints were given, what exactly to do besides stepping on triggers.
Graphics: The graphic style is need and clear.
Audio: The music loop gets kind of annoying fast. It would be nice to have an option to either mute it or change the volume of the music. The Footsteps do not match the speed of the character, so we get like 1 step every second, while the character makes dozens of steps. playing the sound a little bit more often could help here.
I can imagine that this puzzle game can be really fun to play, as the mechanic is cool, but as i have no idea how to progress i can't really give more of a rating here.
First of all the tutorial:
I really liked the tutorial. The visual feedback when completing a step is nice.
We feature 2 play modes, one is harder than the other. The assisted mode can get boring over time, but it's a good starting point when dying over and over in competitive mode, so one can learn the mechanics of the enemies, which is a good one.
Audio: The music is a nice non annoying loop, but compared to the sounds a little bit to loud. The sounds and music still create a good athmosphere.
Controls: The controls feel good, we have a direct feedback and the movement decently matches the animations. I especially like, that you added a recoil to your gun shots here. Being able to dash through enemy shots feels good!
Animations: In general there i feel, that much love went into the animations an little details here. For example, when shooting the clouds at the edge of the arena, they pop. Also i'm a fan of the spawn animation of the little "Bat-Like" enemies, as it looks like they step through a portal on the ground.
Theme: The theme is met, delaying the inevitable by keeping the arena at a reasonable size.
Fun: Personally i'm just really bad at these type of games, but that's definetly not your fault. Having a Highscore to hunt does always motivate to play another round though.
Innovation: I guess it's the first time i saw a change of size on the arena depending on how you perform in the game in this genre.
Things i disliked: It would have been great to be able to adjust the volume of music / sounds. The menu itself is nice, the only thing i dislike about it are the missing visual feedback options on your butotns. Like some mouseover/hover effect and/or an click effect would greatly add to the impressium.
The link in your entry does only mention microsoft windows, while it looks like you also have a WebGL upload. So you should add another link in your entry, so Linux / Mac users also know that they can play your game.
Menu: I love the easter egg, which is hidden in the menu! The relaxing music really fits the sleeping cat athmosphere We have visual feedback on the buttons, which is good! Also all buttons have an OnClick sound <3 We can adjust the volume of the audio, which is also a huge plus! The game itself also started on a good volume. My ears thank you here! The custom mouse pointer also adds nicely to the athmosphere
The tutorial explains everything needed in an easy to understand way. Having the ingame menu is a nice addition, that way it is also possible to pause & restart the game, if your hands are failing you :D
Art: Everything is matching and adding to the athmosphere. The mice with the gun and also the tanks seem to miss any kind of attack animation. BUT having these animations mice fire projectiles could also harm the athmosphere here. Maybe some little recoil animation or just a change of the color of the sprite would have been sufficient here.
The sleeping cat is amazing :)
Music & Sounds: The music of the menu greatly matched the athmosphere of the peacefully sleeping cat! The music in the game playfully matched the not that sleepy situation in the garden and inside the house.
Fun: Yes! The game forces you to multitask pretty hardly here, which is nice. It starts easy in the house, but gets harder and even overwhelming at some point in time. <-Thats good! Having to concentrate on like 4 things at once and 100 mice invading the sleeping cat really keeps my brain active. I could also imagine letting kids play the game and learn typing :D
Also the game is not unfair, as you need to use your right hand for the mouse you only have your left hand to type in the letters, but that is okay as most of the letters are easily reachable using that hand.
Innovation: We have a typing game with multitasking activities. I guess thats something i have not seen before.
Humor: Guess i laughed my ass off, caused by the menu easter egg :P
Mood: As stated in previous categories, the game creates a matching athmosphere. And i had fun playing it.
Gameplay: When spending skillpoints it would be nice to have explanations, what the stats actually do. So some kind of tooltip, or an info button would be nice here. When spending skillpoints there is no possibility to change my mind, as soon as i have clicked the + button.
I don't feel like there is a reason to ever use the block ability. I guess it would make more sense if we could see if the enemy is performing a normal or heavy attack. Currently it feels like we only lose a round, where we could have also attacked the enemy. Being able to skill in general is a cool thing.
The game feels fair and is encouraging to play, as we ahve some kind of character progression through the skillpoints & levels.
As we game started i was a little bit confused, that i need to walk the figure in the theatre.
If you ever plan to extend the game with more features, i'd love to gather gold or similar and have a shop like every 5-10 mobs, where i could by upgrades.
When trying to skip 2 times in a row a message in a language i don't undertand is being displayed. And also i don't feel like the skip/wait feature helps in any situation
Graphics:
I like the way the stats of the player and enemy are being shown on a stick :D The art style is really really good. The game felt like having a interactable puppet theatre.
I liked the way you displayed the order of the turns. It was easy to understand. Having tooltips on the buttons in combat, also helped to understand how to play the game. And also the icons were self explanatory
Music:
The music changes between a relaxed travel song and a combat song, which helps creating the correct athmosphere. And also the music is not annoying, which is good!
Theme: The Theme is hit, by the fact, that you are going to lose sooner or later and this is delayed by killing monsters, and drinking the really rare healthpotions.
Menu: The menu could need a little bit more love, like adding some visual & audio feedback to your buttons. Also the possibility to change the volume of music & sounds would be nice.
As many others said - i also dislike rythm games, but this one is fun :)
Amazing art, music and athmosphere <3
Amazing Game! <3
I'm just to bad to pass more than like 60 seconds. When the rythm mode thingy is on i have to fully concentrate on clicking the correct button, but when i try to look & move arround i allways fail the beat :/ But still the athmosphere is great, i was just bad in playing it :D -> all in all i like the game :)
Was fun playing :D
Cool combination and fun to play! <3
Note: Playing in browser can lead to OutOfMemoryExceptions -> Better download the Windows version. Linux version is be on itch.io not on the downloadlink given here. I cant edit the post anymore else i would have updated ^^ (https://nerzal.itch.io/escape-the-jojato-hack-slash-)
Thanks @markopolodev @nidup Well yeah, our biggest problem with the controls was the time-limit ^^ We had to work on monday so we lost several hours where we could have polished the game. Thanks for the feedback and i'm glad you seemed to enjoy playing :)
