Awesome game, I enjoy the upgrade shop, the art and atmosphere is really nice and it's a cool take on the prompt too. This might just be me, but I think it's initially a little unclear how the shop works since its really easy to drift out of its range, and at first I thought I broke the game because as I hit "enter" the message for opening the shop disappeared, later I realised that you had to be physically next to the dock to shop and I'd just drifted out of its range. Overall I really liked it :)

This was GREAT! Love the art style/graphics - simple yet beautiful! The controls are just challenging enough at the beginning to make you want to keep working at it to buy upgrades to get better - a really good feedback loop! Thanks for making this - it was great!

I like the mood and the graphics of your game. And you implemented the theme good as well. But it's a bit annoying when I stuck on to many dead bodies in the water.

sillyman987 2019-05-01 09:02

Nice, but the green steaming bodies would burst, send you backward, and make you lose a passenger.

m110 2019-05-01 09:07

Whoah, it's really a great concept for the theme :D At first it was really hard to steer the boat, but the upgrades helped greatly. I love that the boat model changes with each upgrade and it motivates the player to get all of them. It has at the same time a moody style and it's hilarious that Charon would upgrade his boat. :D Great job!

ttftcuts 2019-05-01 09:16

I liked the natural progression of difficulty in getting a full load across that came with a larger hull, the graphical style, and the variety of models.

weine 2019-05-01 09:18

Art and visual atmosphere is great! Some background music and sounds could have helped raising the mood even further. Seeing all the upgrades is a reason to keep playing, but simple win/lose conditions would also have been nice to make it feel more like a game.

frostdragonliz 2019-05-01 09:29

Post Jam update : Added a basic win condition and fixed issue with shop opening.

firellon 2019-05-01 09:39

Nice entry! Could make a solid game if you'd add more conflict and threat to the player rather than just floating bodies, as well as make the Charon and his cause more relatable

ryano 2019-05-01 09:48

Great game. Best I've played so far. Nailed the theme and upgrades were fun.

pequenodev 2019-05-01 14:37

Great concept and sweet atmosphere, I loved how you worked fog and lights, keeping a cartoon style. Great job mate!

b33thr33 2019-05-01 14:45

Very cool visuals and atmosphere, theme on point. Missing a bit of a challenge for my personal taste.

vanleiden 2019-05-01 14:49

Very macabre, great atmosphere! Love everything about it. :)

hestrateja 2019-05-01 14:57

Great game but i think was too heavy for a wev game so it felt a bit laggy, also I couldn't pay the retirement fee although I had enough money for it. Superb entry considering you worked solo. Good job

goosyberry 2019-05-01 15:01

Cool game and atmosphere, I really like how the theme was implemented! Fun to play too. I just had a small problem at the end where I couldn't purchase the retirement even though I had enough money?

mrspeaker 2019-05-01 15:01

This was a fantastic game - creepy and engaging! I just poured 20 minutes into it. I was a bit upset when I finally maxed everything out (I lolled at the propulsion upgrades), and went to hit "retire"... and nothing happened. Then I reasoned that it's a metaphysical analogy. You can never leave.

I thought I was a pretty good tour conductor. I did what all good tour conductors do and made the same joke every single crossing: "Interesting facts about the river Styx - it was named after that band that sang 'Domo arigato Mr Roboto', and is located in the dead center of town".

Fantastic game, really great work!

macabre 2019-05-01 15:16

LOVE the concept! Awesome work on the graphics and gameplay. It was frustrating at first to navigate through the river, but that only fueled my determination to upgrade the boat. Some sound and music would greatly enhance the atmosphere and mood of the game.

tomasmunro 2019-05-01 15:17

cool game ,the atmosphere is great, there is something strangely satisfying about it , love love love the art style. i got to the end maxed out my boats propulsion and hull , went to turn around got pushed over where the rocks are andgot stuck, couldnt reverse , turn or any way to get out ,i think it was zombies blocking me against the rocks , but other than that tiny tiny hiccup , really enjoyed it ,super polished gg

szabe 2019-05-01 15:17

Very nice quality of assets! Overall great job! Controls are nice and smooth, updates are clear and easy to understand, everything works great, no bugs or glitches. My only gripe is that avoiding dead bodies is nearly impossible, since I could hardly control my ship that fast, I usually just pushed through them, without any thought about what route to take. This made the gameplay a touch too simple. Nevertheless great job with the assets and effects!

frostdragonliz 2019-05-01 15:20

Thanks for all the nice comments. I've just uploaded a fix so you should be able to complete the game now (it only goes to a "you won" screen, but I understand the annoyance if you took the time to get the coin)

donitz 2019-05-01 15:22

Very fun and the game looks amazing.

Time to invest in a bridge.

autumn-schutt 2019-05-01 15:22

The art was really nice! It was a pretty fun game and definitely a fun idea!

the-enigma 2019-05-01 15:26

Good job, really visually impressive. Minor comments the retire button didn't work (I guess it was just there for a goal post) and the shop did not open when I pressed enter either.

gruni 2019-05-01 15:26

Loving it. One of the best entries I've played so far! Wish it had a native build (for macOS :P) though. :)

2019-05-01 15:29

Enjoyed this one!

nerzal 2019-05-01 15:45

Totally missing sound / music effects. I had to start some dark/sad ambient music on youtube :D The visuals of the boat and the upgrades are really nice!

redhermit 2019-05-01 15:51

Love it! Art is great, and the take on the theme is fantastic. Very well structured for upgrades, and would love to see a post-LD44 version of the game!

greg-lord 2019-05-01 15:54

Really charming game -- great, great visual atmosphere. I definitely understanding running out of time for audio (same thing happened to me), but if you are still interested in working on it, I can picture some spooky or gloomy music/water sounds really tying off this mood the rest of the way. Either way, though, top mood score from me, and it's a great game overall. (I totally maxed out the boat before I retired, just because I was having fun.) Awesome work!

talyn 2019-05-01 16:01

This is a great entry! I loved it, the idea and graphics are really cool. Good job !

tero-pulkkinen 2019-05-01 16:04

I got stuck in middle of dead bodies, and couldn't move anywhere. But the graphics looks awesome.

bakenshake 2019-05-01 16:23

This game was pretty neat in concept, but I would have really appreciated some ambient audio in this! Would have added so much more. Also, there's no timer or rush for me to get souls over to the other side, so I can really take my time. Not sure if you want to add that feeling to it, but I think you easily could. All in all, good job!

langotriel 2019-05-01 17:52

I am beyond impressed with the fact that you made all the propulsion upgrades fit all the different hulls! I LOVE that attention to detail! I think this game would be perfect as a sort of mini-game in a game about Death and his work; sort of like a documentary on death as an individual. He could be talking about his day and what he does and this game would slot in nicely. "so anyway, this is some of what I do. It's simple work but it's honest work" - Death. I do miss some music and sound effects, though. You definitely deserve a good sound crew for your next project to really bring it to life (or bring it to death, as the case may be). Well done!

amerigo-gazaway 2019-05-01 22:25

Wow super impressive and love the concept! 3D animations are great and the mood is super spooky. Would have love to hear some spooky music or even a simple ambience track playing to set the atmosphere. If you're ever in need of such a thing I'd be happy to help. Fantastic work, cheers!

designernap 2019-05-02 09:32

I did it! Eternal retirement! :D This was lovely. A ton of atmosphere for silent game. Moody, great gameplay mechanics, love the addition of the boomers and navigating between them. Upgrade path is clear and immediate. Great!

jamesolivermusic 2019-05-02 18:23

Nice art and physics! I wish there was a little more to do though. I'm sure with some post-jam content this game will be fantastic, or use this game as a mini-game/level for a larger game. Also, a little rowing animation would add a nice touch :)

jimbly 2019-05-15 02:58

Real Shinigami don't buy Steering upgrades.

Love the feel of this! Really like how, especially as I get a bigger ship, I decide it's okay to lose a passenger or two each time, but I still feel bad about it. Bugged me that the water-wheel propulsion upgrade was spinning the wrong way, my ship should be moving backwards ^_^. I managed to retire. I feel like the Styx is awfully crowded, there must be another Charon up the way who's not doing his job... or are those all the fareless?

ivan-garcia-filho 2019-05-16 13:18

Awesome entry with amazing graphics.

The lack of sfx is sad because the scnario is asking for a rich ambience sfx, like river water running, the water choking on the raft's hull, the wooden hull creaking and squeaking, some ghostly whispers and screams, maybe crows flying around, some howling and whispering wind, with a lot of reverberation to add depth and volumetry to the scene and even a good music to bring the user a feeling of doing Styx Job.

The path is too cluttered and you could increase the constant force down the river to strengthen the river dragging you to the right, and allow the raft to push the floating drowned bodies just for juiceness of crossing a river covered by drowned deads.

The raft could have some water ripples comming from the hull to enhance the sensation of speed and movement.

I didn't even notice the coins, you should enhance the increase and decrease of your core currency, like animating the spirits throwing 2 coins each of them into your hand.
