The goal of the game is kind of hard to understand, but i think ive got the idea. From what i understand you have to create a blance between all of the creatures on the island, which is tricky. I got it for a while but i couldnt hold it for long. If this is the gial, it should be explained a little better. The graphics were pretty cool, my only other notes are that the movement across the x any z axis doesnt adjust as you rotate the map, which gets confusing, that and the lack of an explanation of the game. Other than that the game is alright. Great work.
The game is pretty hard to understand, and the introductory cutscene doesn't explain enough. When I start the game, nothing happens. I do like the tile-based art though, so maybe you should focus on that the next Ludum Dare and create a simpler game around it?
@bilzc10 We fixed the navigation issue, thanks for testing 🌽
@flashviper Stuff does happen, but it probably happened offscreen in your game (the hazards of procedural generation :smile:), which you could only see if you used the navigation panel to see other parts of the map. We fixed it now! We zoomed out the starting camera so this should not happen anymore and you can see the changes in all cases.
We wanted to keep an open mind regarding the player's experience, and his understanding of the events that happen during the game (the ending screen hopefully clarifies things a bit) :rainbow:

I love balancing games like this. However, some things were unclear. I didn't really understand how the gun and radio worked. I thought the gun+humans killed birds? But if that's the case, it was far too slow. The birds got a bit hard to see too since they're dark and the ground is dark. I played it 3 times and don't understand how the island keeps getting over-run with foxes. The only way I was able to clear them was by starving them. The hawks eat foxes right?
Also, do hawks eat rabbits and cats too? I noticed when I only had birds and rabbits+cat, the rabbits+cat died.

@jerripo Haha, yeah, we really need to redo the balancing. The gunHuman is spawned at a random point of the map, and will kill any bird, fox, and rabbits it comes across. But like you said, it moves slowly. The hawks eat foxes, cats and rabbits. We'll hopefully find a bit of time next week to change the movements and preys of each unit so it's more balanced. I hadn't noticed the birds were too dark, thanks, we need to lighten up the ground a bit.

Cool game! Enjoyed it very much.
@zicboy thank you for trying our game :fox:
This is a very interesting "game" (or simulation ?) !
I imagine you spent many hours searching for a good balance between the species. That makes the work pretty harder.
Good Job !
I'm not a huge fan of these balancing games unfortunately, and wasn't all that taken with this one. I struggled to understand the pattern (if there even was one) to how the animals spread over time and I couldn't get very far with it even after a few attempts. The graphics really need some love, it can be hard to see what is going on at times and as a player I should never be asking the question 'what am I supposed to be looking at'. Think about what the most important information is for the player to know and try to find the best solution possible to making it as obvious as possible from the very first glance. A good effort for a jam game, just not my favourite.
Excellent launch pad, I like the idea, but would echo that it isn't very clear to get started.. I nearly gave up after rereading the instructions a few times (honestly the instructions in my game are pretty bad too, we LD, we learn). I would like to see some more animations and sound effects, but I do like the take on the theme, so many people are computer or people themed, I like this one!
This game reminds me of some kind of cellular automata... One suggestion I have: the tutorials for 'who-eats-who' should make clearer that, for example, the hawk eats all the other animals instead of only foxes.
@deformhead we spent a few hours trying to balance the game, but we still need to find the right values. :rabbit:
@historymaker118 thanks for the feedback, we are thinking about some graphic solutions that would give the player a better understanding of what's happening on the island. :cat:
@grahhhhhhhhh @wendel-scardua you are right, we'll improve the game description and are thinking about adding some sort of tutorial section with a description of who eats who and make it clearer how to start playing. :fox:
Thanks for the comments, your feedback will be really helpful for the v2.0! :eagle:

The game idea is very good, but I think that the balance is missing, or I'm very bad at this game hahaha
I liked it. It is based on something real and is a good tool for undertanding the issue in a fun and simple way. Great work.
This game had some appeal, but definitely could use some better instructions. I found myself getting very confused, especially as to how to get rid of all those pesky birds. Still I enjoyed the graphics and sound quite a bit. The ambient sound particularly added a lot to the games atmosphere. Still decent, but could have been so much better with more instructions and balancing. Good luck on your next LD!

@arron-fowler thank you! <3
@raktou yeah, we should *fingers crossed* have a version with better balance sometime next week
@baconinvader thanks for the feedback! We're working on it.

Good game, but needs a better balancing. I like the art of the menu with the islands and the animals in the indications, but it needs polishing to be incorporated nicely with the 3d-ish elements on the board.
I enjoyed it. The graphics are my favorite part... Both, 2D and 3D. The core of the game was easy to understand and I liked the absence of music. I think that having only SFX was a good decision. My only observation is about the balance. I'd like further explanation about how each species grows in number over the turns.
@lndrstrll The ambience is really good, the main goal is kindof hard to understand but over time I figured out what to do and how to do it, overall good game. Do check our game as well.Thanks!
Graphics are great and the concept is really cool! I like the invasion concept that force you to equilibrate species to keep an equilibrate island!
Really nice strategy game !!
Maybe controls can be improved to use mouse scroll and WASD to move/ zoom? :)
@irhileth @jazmin-giolito @void-productions @thibaultar Thanks! for the comments and feedback. :four_leaf_clover:
@irhileth we have almost finished a more balanced version of the game with improved graphics. :rabbit:
@jazmin-giolito we will also add a tutorial in the new version, so is easier to understand how the system works. :fox:
@thibaultar we are also going to improve the camera controls :eagle:
cool idea - just found one bug - sometimes the first placement does not actually happen and probabyl it would be better to allow placement of animals whenever you weant

I like the idea, it would be cool if you could also set the the icons of the animals to keyboard keys, to have shortcuts
I had a hard time seeing how the animals effected the growth of the plants. I wasn't clear if I needed to place the bunnies in the middle or the edge of the growth to stop the spread. When more animals were added in, it wasn't clear how they would effect things.
Do any of the animals create regrowth?
It never seemed to be possible to win, as you have two spawn points for the seed in the beginning, and even if you placed bunnies every time the growth continued.
What is the end game? Is this just a time attack where you need to see how many days you can last?
The idea behind the game is great. The game itself is very difficult, I tried to achieve balance several times without any success. The game could be better with several levels with the difficulty increasing each level. Other than that — nice entry and great theme match!

Really a great concept! This little game of biodiversity management is top! The gameplay is well thought out but I think that some additional visual feedbacks would make the experience even better! Great job! :)
By the way please feel free to leave us some feedbacks on our game!

We now have a brand new version, with brand new balancing, brand new keyboard and/or mouse controls, brand new food chain graphics, brand new no less than three endgames (I never got to one of them but I'm convinced you could) and a brand new absence of bugs! Relative absence of bugs. They probably will happen to other people, not to you. Don't worry about it (but do tell us if you see one).
It's prooobably the final version too (finally. I'm dying).
@firesplash-entertainment Thanks! We fixed it :)
@nerzal Thanks! We implemented it.
@saoi-games @roman-petrov Thanks! We (no I'm joking I'll really answer) lndrstrll did an awesome job fixing the balance (among other changes, we now have only one plant spwan point) and it is now guaranteed to be challenging but winnable! I'd show you a screenshot but we didn't make one and it would be spoilery :P
Most animals create regrowth; a tile turns green again the second turn it is empty.
@zinski thanks!
Interesting game design! Really got a lot of work done in the time of the jam! Well done. Thanks for sharing your game with my stream awhile back. Your game was played around 4:15 into this vod: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/299401837
Very interesting but a little hard to understand at first, good job though.
@ursagames thanks for the comment, we remember your stream :bear:
@void-productions thanks again for the comment! :rabbit:
@ursagames @void-productions since you have both played the first version of the game, what do you think about the improvements we have made on the new version? now is possible to win! :fox:
