LD42 — Running out of space

The Espacito by Wendel Scardua 2018-08-14T03:24:25Z

The name of this game is very close to "The Despacito", so i liked this game before i even played it. Luckily, the name isnt the only good thing about this game. The controls to this game are easy, and the goal is immediately obvious, since its a spin on a classic game genre, but with a couple new twists. The enemies are pretty easy, but that doesnt mean that the game isnt challenging. Stopping the walls from closing in on you adds an extra layer of difficulty to the game, and as they slowly make their way in youre left with less room to fight. Its a great balance between to easy and too hard. My one suggestion is the addition of a retry button. Overall, I really liked this game. Great work.

The Perennial Dead by almightytuna 2018-08-15T04:06:09Z

This game was really fun and pretty creative. I really liked how it played. I did find a couple issues however, mostly bugs, im assuming.

First, i managed to get stuck in the ground a couple times: heckThePoliceCominStraightFromTheUnderground.png

Second, some items respawn when you come out of the campsites, such as the extended magazine: over9000.wav.png

Third, Bait spawns zombies on top of other zombies:

and Fourth, for the final zombie, if you just walk against him and stay right next to him, he only damages you once, and isnt able to hit you with any corpses, this makes the final fight incredibly easy. To fix this, make it so every half second or so that he touches you, you lose health, and maybe give him some knockback.

Other than that, i liked the game. If you continue to work on it, though, you might want to fix those. Good job!

One of my favorite games so far

Damage Control by nolanfa 2018-08-14T03:01:04Z

The goal of the game is kind of hard to understand, but i think ive got the idea. From what i understand you have to create a blance between all of the creatures on the island, which is tricky. I got it for a while but i couldnt hold it for long. If this is the gial, it should be explained a little better. The graphics were pretty cool, my only other notes are that the movement across the x any z axis doesnt adjust as you rotate the map, which gets confusing, that and the lack of an explanation of the game. Other than that the game is alright. Great work.

Star Skipper by NoahRo 2018-08-14T02:42:06Z

Pretty interesting concept, its very simple but fits the theme in a unique way. My only recommendations are maybe improve the frame rates of some of the animations, it made it a bit confusing at times. Also, the jumping, its pretty inconsistent. Other than that, very cool game.

Delete After Reading by AndrewW 2018-08-14T02:47:05Z

The graphics were great and the controls were easy to grasp. I enjoyed playing this game, and i found it pretty challenging. Very cool concept and a great game.

Ultimate Harvest Day by Marcelo92 2018-08-14T21:23:44Z

This game was one of the most fun ones ive tried so far, and very impressive for a game you can play in the browser. I really liked it. It was pretty easy at first but accelerated quickly and the amount of enemies became a lot to handle. My highest score was about 2800. The only issue is that is seems you die from them attacking you, which makes sense, but there inst any damage indicator. Other than that, great game. I really enjoyed it.

@nam-nguyen and @josehzz, thanks for your ideas on how to improve the game! If we continue working on this game post-ludum dare, we'll definitely consider adding those, as well as making the tile decay a little less random.

@sam-estep The music is a 20 second track which loops poorly thanks to the html5 audio tag. The cutting out is a browser-based issue that we're aware of, although i dont think we've encountered the tab muting itself. We'll look into that.

Thanks to everyone else who played, too. Im glad everyone's enjoying the game

@colletto-gregory Thanks for your suggestions, ive definitely been thinking of some ways to prevent the game from occasionally placing the player in impossible situations, but its pretty challenging to make it random (and different, if it was always the same, then the game would favor memory over fast decision making) yet still make it always possible. Also, as far as making it step based only, the game originally had most of the tiles removed by walking and very few being removed over time, which meant that the game was more luck based than skill based. if most tiles are removed by time, then you can improve your chances of making it by being faster. We'll definitely keep your feedback in mind if we continue working on the game, though. As far as the glitch, would you mind providing more details, such as whether this occurred on the first stage or on a later stage, whether it occurred at the beginning of the stage or in the middle, etc. Thanks for playing!

@schizoid2k, @bevel, @sebastian-m, @veilastrum, @sylvie, @ghostgoatsgames and @sidnoea we know about the issue where you get walled off from the trophy occasionally, and I've been trying to come up with some solutions to the problem. As far as the suggestion to randomize trophy location (schizoid2k) and/or prevent the tiles around the trophy from degenerating, that's something we can definitely look into. Thanks for your feedback.

@mccarlp The score is located at the top of the screen, you can record your highest score and try to beat that. I was working on a scoreboard for the game, which I could publish in the next couple days. As far as the speed ramping up too much, that's something we'll have to play around with. When did you feel it started to get too fast? Anyway, thanks for trying our game!

Thanks to everyone else who tried the game, as well!

Step into the Void (Web) by Bilzc10 2018-08-16T13:11:24Z

@sidnoea and @novodantis, those are really good ideas, I just need to figure out how to implement that on top of the current code. I'm going to try to figure that out today.

Step into the Void (Web) by Bilzc10 2018-08-17T00:31:40Z

@schizoid2k, @bevel, @sebastian-m, @veilastrum, @sylvie, @ghostgoatsgames, @novodantis and @sidnoea We're still working on a solution to make it completely impossible for a level to be unbeatable up until a certain time, but we have released an update that should make the issue happen far less often. (The issue may still pop up occasionally, but its very unlikely. Remember, the faster you are the less likely the issue is to ever occur.)

@mccarlp In the update i added a little high score counter that will keep track of your all time high score (on that computer). I also enabled the global leaderboard so you can submit and compare your score against anyone else whos played. I also tweaked the decay multipliers a bit. The amount the decay ramps up varies slightly from playthrough to playthrough (this is intentional), but hopefully its a bit better.

@shakedimus and @balance686 thanks for your suggestions. The tile-falling warning idea is a suggestion we've gotten a couple times. I've been working on a big update to revamp the leaderboard system and tweak some other things, so @paulie-b or I may add that feature. Thanks for playing our game

Step into the Void (Web) by Bilzc10 2018-09-02T23:29:04Z

@shakedimus, @balance686, @josehzz I forgot to mention, I released an update that added a simple texture change before tiles are removed, which should give you some warning before you make a decision. The time-based tile decay animations speed up as time goes on, though, so you'll still need to be fast.

RGBot by Jared York 2018-08-15T02:50:55Z

This game is very cool. The main mechanic is really creative and i enjoyed all the ways it was used to challenge me as a player. The compression was also a pretty cool way of fitting the theme. I like the game a lot. My only comments are that some of the levels take a bit of trial and error to solve, also, the "season 2 coming soon" screen still kills the player.

No More Space in Space by Liven 2018-08-15T03:11:05Z

This game is really fun and challenging, although it seems a bit random. Sometimes it gets cluttered when the score is around 400, sometimes its completely clear until 900. Also, after a couple games, the green bonuses would vanish completely, the only way to get them back would be to close the game and reopen. Other than that, its a cool unique concept and i really enjoyed it.

Feed cats by Noini 2018-08-14T03:28:07Z

The game was kind of confusing at first, but if you wait a bit the goal becomes apparent. Its a pretty simple game, but i like it. Also it has cats, which is always a good thing. Pretty cool, especially considering you did this alone, good job.
