LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

No Brakes on the Train of Life by squaredev 2018-12-04T10:40:05Z

Very cool graphics! The music is good as well. I like the concept and the simple but good idea behind it. I played until the knot level, then it became a bit too confusing, but overall great game!

Forgotten Heritage by ded 2018-12-04T09:58:15Z

Wasn't clear at first what the goal was so I didn't find the hand immediately. The mood of the game was cool as well as the sound effects. When I died there wasn't a way to restart the game.

Pirates may Cry by themarioga 2018-12-04T10:22:24Z

The webGL link isn't working!

Pirates may Cry by themarioga 2018-12-04T10:41:34Z

@budark it works for you because you're the editor. The privacy of the game is probably set to private

Coming Home by Robin49 2018-12-04T10:33:24Z

A lot of guesswork is needed to progress and I couldn't go past the first screen. Also there's no reset button!

The Devil's Grind by Hakita 2018-12-04T10:07:21Z

Nice game. Would be cool to have some feedback on the menu’s buttons. Also sometimes it’s not really clear what the villagers are going to give you. (Why did I lost health sometimes??)

Rainbow Cats by Niarkou 2018-12-04T10:44:25Z

Nice! Loved the retro style, the music and the visuals. Very simple yet effective gameplay. Good job ^^

Sven by Donitz 2018-12-04T12:33:02Z

The art was amazing and I really loved the style. My only problem with it is that the boss was too hard. Not sure if I was doing something wrong but couldn't beat it :(

Gunning out of Energy by Ants Aare 2018-12-04T10:28:51Z

@janwalsh sorry! Totally missed it. Fixed :D

Gunning out of Energy by Ants Aare 2018-12-04T11:11:00Z

@bubblewandgames yup,our game had a scope that was a bit too big for us so we didn't have much time left to debug :(

We're fixing all of the bugs as we go (without publishing the fixes as it'd be unfair) so every bug report is welcome! Thanks for the feedback ^^

Gunning out of Energy by Ants Aare 2018-12-09T10:22:41Z

@olivier-millochau yes, we noticed it a bit too late! The enemies drop too much batteries, thus you're not really sacrificing anything. Lesson learned, it takes more than a couple hours to balance a game :p

Thanks for playing it tho!

Slash Rush by Delhaize 2018-12-04T13:25:44Z

Well put together, but I don't understand why i have to redo all the levels if I die. (also why should I lower my shuriken numbers?)

Slash Rush by Delhaize 2018-12-04T13:39:34Z

@antoine-vion thanks, makes more sense now!

Blob buster by Ola 2018-12-04T10:06:02Z

Visuals are great, the controls were very frustrating. Would've been cool if you shot in the direction of the cursor rather than forward. Also the environment isn't used at all, maybe do something with it in the next levels (?). Also way too easy :P

Blob buster by Ola 2018-12-04T10:20:06Z

@kjanik yup, didn't finish it sorry, mainly because of the controls :(

Btw, there's no way to exit the game!

LD44 — Your life is currency

PATH, a game of life by Ekilibr 2019-05-03T23:07:33Z

Just one more thing that I forgot to mention. I think that the time fading even if the player isn't doing anything is a bit too harsh. I'm not sure it's a great mechanic. I think that if the player consumed slots only by interacting with stuff then the game would be better!

Other than that, you already know everything that I think. Great game :)

Catiro by Riftpoint Entertainment 2019-04-30T19:52:07Z

Great game, but I found that the parryable attacks were too few to progress at a steady pace.

Ollo's Life by Memel06 2019-04-30T16:56:20Z

Nice game, and congratz for the Compo! As others have said puzzles seemed a bit out of place, and the controls were a bit iffy and not always responsive (but I understand the limitations).

Graphics and music were great as well, and the story was cute.

Also the lifes weren't really treated like a currency but I mean, the theme wasn't that great so who cares :P

invertebrae by jjjjason 2019-05-01T18:47:13Z

I actually noticed that I never played your game and wew, I had a blast.

Not because of the game itself but because of the mood. I mean, there's no much gameplay but the writing and the music were exceptional. I think there's a fine line that divides pretentious with artistic and this is right on the artistic side, and I really love works like this.

thanks for taking time ;)

P.S: There's a bug. Opening your cat doesn't work

xSHoRfT.png

The Last Dragon by FlyingKiwi 2019-04-30T19:55:55Z

The delay and the jump time are a bit too big, and the witch is a bit too fast. Imho you should be able to endlessly survive if you're good enough, and this doesn't look the case.

The visuals are very nice tho!

(Not really fitting the teme btw :P)

Moneyons! by Maytch 2019-04-30T19:12:22Z

Tried playing it but I couldn't even past the first screen because it wouldn't let me move :(

Controls were bugged for some reason and even the game took long to start

SHROUD (Synthetic Human, Radiation OUtput Determined) by thevinter 2019-04-30T11:49:30Z

Thanks, fixed it now. Uploading the build in ~30 mins!

SHROUD (Synthetic Human, Radiation OUtput Determined) by thevinter 2019-04-30T16:59:15Z

@adam-elaoud Thanks for the kind words! The cave one is a well known bug that we thought we fixed. Sorry for that, I hope it didn't ruin your experience that much :(

@manuel-rauber Glad you liked it :D

SHROUD (Synthetic Human, Radiation OUtput Determined) by thevinter 2019-04-30T17:18:58Z

The cave should be now offlimits. Thanks for the feedback.

SHROUD (Synthetic Human, Radiation OUtput Determined) by thevinter 2019-05-01T23:01:06Z

Thanks everyone for the nice feedback!

@carpin that's some real dedication :P

@rudra-nil-basu @schmavery and everyone else that complained about the footsteps. Sorry for that. We tried lowering the volume but I guess the problem was in the sound itself, we will change it if we ever make a game out of this.

@roilbauk selling body parts didnt turn out to be a great mechanic, we will probably just scrap it. Up and down animation was planned but didn't make it in time. The skull one is a known bug, there are lots of them and every time I fix one another one appears out of nowhere haha.

My biggest grip with the game right now it's that by adding a "bleep bleep" when you are close to dying would've avoided lots of frustration. But thanks again for the comments everyone!

SHROUD (Synthetic Human, Radiation OUtput Determined) by thevinter 2019-05-05T08:58:53Z

@franciszek-pyrc you pretty much summed the whole experience in a couple of seconds lol, thanks for playing.

@josh-mcmillan thanks for the kind words, but I partially disagree. Right now, because of the radiation bug for example, you can't even finish the game unless you farmed radaways like crazy. That's not acceptable... That said, thanks for playing and I'm glad you enjoyed it anyways.

@webox well yeah, walking without a leg is kinda hard :^). Thanks for playing it.

SHROUD (Synthetic Human, Radiation OUtput Determined) by thevinter 2019-05-05T10:20:24Z

@fear-games player sprites actually do update! We had a unique sprite for each combination, sadly they don't always show up and they're kinda unreliable because of a bug :(

@yaen thanks! the selling body parts mechanic is indeed sub-optimal. We started with it because of the theme, but then realized that other mechanics would've been much more fun. The combat is weird indeed, but that's because we didn't have the sprites for up and down movement (that would've added almost 30 more sprites!). And the game was supposed to be keyboard only, the "click to use" thing was added later because I didn't want to implement an inventory. That's why it's not really coherent. Thanks once again for playing.

SHROUD (Synthetic Human, Radiation OUtput Determined) by thevinter 2019-05-07T22:29:18Z

@hechi We're actually working on animating at least the 4 directions, we hope to get it done before the end of the week. Thanks for the feedback, happy you liked the mood :)

@daniel-alhadeff You can now sprint in the post jam version. Does it still feel slow? Would be great to have some feedback for some tuning.

SHROUD (Synthetic Human, Radiation OUtput Determined) by thevinter 2019-05-07T22:33:32Z

@miu that will be there with the next update, never even thought about that before the jam, sorry.

@bakenshake the text will be changed as well in the next version, but we're planning on reworking the main menu entirely. The days do not change if you don't sleep. There was this initial idea of having it to be mandatory to return to the RV to rest while farming items, and progressing during the days would create random events in the world. Sadly there was no time to implement it so we scrapped the idea but the RV stayed there. You can now use it to respawn items (and to break the game :^)) and to restore health. Trading the leg is a bad idea I know, sorry for that. We will have to rework the whole body selling parts thing. But thanks for playing, were trying to expand the whole thing more!

SHROUD (Synthetic Human, Radiation OUtput Determined) by thevinter 2019-05-09T05:25:44Z

@euler-moises I already played and rated your game on stream ;)

Xochipilli's Trade by Giezi 2019-04-30T11:14:02Z

The visuals are great and the player controller is smooth. Some of the jumps are kinda hard and the randomly generated levels not always on point.

Also wasn't really sure what the sacrifices were doing, but the game looks and feels great.

PS: It's very hard to hit the boss without dying in the lava

LD45 — Start with nothing

A Quiet Dream by thevinter 2019-10-08T10:06:57Z

Sorry for that @faithcaio @xakkar @spidamoo @human-writes-code and @bcvery1. We removed the WebGL version for the time being and we're really sad that that crash was the first experience you had with our game :(

We pushed all the changes in the windows version so if you're curious you can still play that. We understand that the web version is more convenient so we're trying to bring it back as soon as possible.

Thanks

A Quiet Dream by thevinter 2019-10-08T11:50:02Z

@eryph fixed the stuttering, it was a problem with the camera. The gate bug is weird because it happens only sometimes and I can't understand why. Will look into it tho, thanks :)

A Quiet Dream by thevinter 2019-10-08T16:06:25Z

@dizzy-dalvin you can find a newspaper in the cemetery ;)

A Quiet Dream by thevinter 2019-10-08T16:34:02Z

@madeasterbunny everything should be fixed now!

A Quiet Dream by thevinter 2019-10-08T18:14:02Z

@starblast yes it's a bug and I'm tremendly sorry. I was fixing another problem and caused this one :(

It's completely playable now in case you'd like to try again. Thanks :)

A Quiet Dream by thevinter 2019-10-15T11:04:30Z

@dwam You can find the daughter's birthday on the newspaper in the graveyard

The wandering section in the fog is indeed empty, we wanted to add stuff but we didn't have time. The sound effects for the house were bugged, sometimes when you enter it it doesn't switch to the correct sound. It happens rarely but it's a problem we know, sorry you ran into these problems.

LD45 - Cards of Creation by Starblast 2019-10-08T18:29:13Z

Would be cool for it to be more strategical so your choices really have an impact on the game. But rn it's really fun just to watch the stuff happen. Good job!

The Reader's Encounter by xlomid 2019-10-08T12:24:08Z

Great idea for a game, got stuck on a few of them (mainly the first one since honing isn't a commond word for non-native speakers). Overall it works really great and the story is nicely written. I'd love to see the visuals fit the story tho, would be great!

LD46 — Keep it alive

Cadavour by cvetk0 2020-04-30T13:37:25Z

Played your game on stream, cool idea but I'm not sure how much gameplay depth it adds. Game felt a bit easy, but overall it was polished and I had fun. Is probably a bit repetitive in the long run, maybe you could add different power ups tied with the body parts!

Pumpkin Keeper by gurkenlabs 2020-04-30T14:17:12Z

Great game! Some suggestions: add more variety to the gameplay loop: for example gates or different types of enemies, but I can really see this turning into a full game.

Solar by thevinter 2020-04-21T19:37:46Z

@squeg-inc thanks! there was supposed to be a speed powerup :)

@lukas-tamayo Yeah, balancing was pretty scarce, also it's one of the side effects of a randomly generated map. Sometimes it's really easy and sometimes it's really hard. Finetuning something like that would've required too much time sadly, thanks for the feedback!

@maksym ghost octopuses ;)

@eggy0 Thanks for the comment and the feedback, but I'm not sure this is the right place and time to talk about it . If you want to discuss it feel free to message me on discord.

@rodrigo-castro "I missed more elements on de HUD" what do you mean exactly?

@ryan-harriman "I found myself trying to shoot often with no result" as in pressing the button with no results?

Solar by thevinter 2020-04-23T09:01:10Z

@sticmac We decided to develop a full game and we actually thought about this problem, our solution was to make the enemies attack you only if they're in your light. What do you think? ^^

Other than that thanks for the feedback!

Solar by thevinter 2020-04-23T15:24:55Z

@euler-moises that's weird, you're the only one so far that had something like this, I wonder why. I'm really sorry for the bug tho! Were you playing the webgl build?

Tree Tender LD46 by AmbaDev 2020-04-30T14:26:57Z

Heya! Played it on stream (twitch.tv/thevinter) so you can check the vod. Cute game, hitboxes feel a bit weird also the shooting is not very easy to use and direct at the enemies. Also would try to balance it a bit more, but overall nice job!

Manifest Destiny by SaltFactory Studio 2020-04-30T13:48:18Z

Played it on stream, you can find the vod on twitch.tv/thevinter. I had fun and the game was balanced! I would fix the camera and change the shooting mechanics since they felt weird.

Goldsmith by Nocity 2020-04-22T16:09:12Z

Hey, thanks for making the game! I'm really sorry I couldn't get to play it on stream, having some issues with my PC right now, but the game is a really cool idea. Couldn't reach the secret ending but the art and the mechanics make it for a simple but simple and nice looking game :)

The Lightwielder - Ludum Dare 46 by 1StepCloser 2020-04-23T09:30:22Z

The art and the mood are awesome! Really loved them, the gameplay was fun but kinda weird as I didn't really understand if I was actually damaging the black enemies. As others pointed out I was lost most of the time so some guidance would be awesome. Other than that I like the concept of light dimming out (we made the same in our game haha) and it feels satisfying to regain back the health and the light. Cool small game, would love to see something more with the same aesthetic!

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Aleph Qoph / Duat by ancient-pixel 2021-04-27T18:04:51Z

Thanks for the game! The multiplayer aspect of it was cool. I played for 10 minutes and as others have said have found it rather empty, while inspiring. Amazing atmosphere and good job on the 3D engine, even if it's wonky it's still a lot of work I'm sure.

Re:Ship by thevinter 2021-04-27T10:09:26Z

@ommadawn I fixed it, thanks for letting me know!

Re:Ship by thevinter 2021-04-27T10:22:06Z

@zolar Thanks for playing, I agree it's a bit too hectic and it should be slowed down, but I can't even describe the nightmare that is to balance something with so many moving parts :(

Appreciate the feedback :)

Planet LD48B by Outfrost 2021-04-27T22:36:27Z

Cool concept! The art was great and the exploration part was cool, even if I wished the map were less empty. I love the idea of enemies blocking your exploration with you having to come back at a later time. The music also was pleasant and I didn't find any bugs, which makes it a solid entry!

I found it a bit confusing at first and a map would've probably helped as the environments are very similar. Also for a moment I was confused as to why the character was attacking with his handkerchief haha :P

Decisive Maneuver by bernard-bumblebutt 2021-04-27T16:46:51Z

Cool idea and the difficulty scales very nicely, feels very polished and I got to second place :)

I love the fact that you see sonar charges on the submarine

Blackout by Frasse 2021-04-27T12:37:06Z

Awesome game, awesome graphics. Very reminescent of Lucasart games. I enjoyed the humour, the art and the music + the twist at the end, very very cool!

How Low Can you Go by SaeedPrez 2021-04-27T16:41:19Z

Nice little game, it certainly is polished and the models are nice. Some more variation would've been neat as well as a difficulty ramp up, it's pretty easy as of now :P

Nyctophobia by TheJohnyFeeD 2021-04-27T13:37:43Z

The game is great. The interactions with the NPCs were probaly the best part, as well as the details and the mood. The gameplay loop is nothing special nor innovative but it works, and the amount of content is also incredibile. Good job :)

Mariana's Trench by mmisspelling 2021-04-27T00:17:23Z

Thanks for making it! I had fun playing it and I really enjoyed the artstyle. The animations were a bit wonky and the sprites could've been a bit more crisp but for being your first Ludum Dare this is really well done! :)

LD49 — Unstable

Monocykl by Bajtix 2021-10-06T22:22:30Z

Nice game! Given the time you put into mine I had to return the favor so I got to 120 points! At first it seemed really hard but once I got the hang of it it became kinda easy. It's fun to spam the buttons and the side views help indeed! Graphics are polished and the music is fine. Would've loved some more variety, at least in the level design. Good job!

//ex.it by thevinter 2021-10-05T21:47:48Z

Thanks for the feedback. Sadly fixing the jumping accuracy is something harder than it looks so it would require a major patch, something we feel we shouldn't add to the game after the submission phase.

@substain you did better than most people! Maybe consider finishing it, you're close and it saves your progress!

//ex.it by thevinter 2021-10-06T18:02:28Z

@substain @fluffygamedev @tekk @geckoo1337 @fre @dannyk1994 @gamebuilder Thanks for the feedback. I'm sure you have other games to play and we really appreciate you giving our game a go, but we fixed the jump in the WebGL version (and in the windows one). There is still the pre-fix version up but if you wish to finish the game now and experience everything there is then it should be way less frustrating and way more fun. Thanks!

//ex.it by thevinter 2021-10-07T21:44:45Z

@miltonnh25 Yes, we agree that the lasers are frustrating and easily the worst part of the game. Yes the error screen at the end is the end. If you play the windows version it crashes the game. Thanks for the feedback.

@tomssuli No, that's the end. I agree it could've been explained a bit better but we were short on time. If you play the windows version it actually crashes the game. The main problem with the jumping on enemies is the fact that their hitboxes are a bit wonky so sometimes you take damage even if you're not supposed to. Thanks for playing it and glad you finished and liked it ^^

Also thanks to everyone else that commented and played it!

Unstable States by ELBIDEV 2021-10-06T18:15:34Z

As others have stated it was a bit difficult to understand how to play. Is the ball the only form that can kill enemies? What am I supposed to do with the other forms? Is there a way to change them? Do I die?

Some music would've been also nice. What I really love though is the art style, the color palette is fantastic and the design of the enemies is also nice. Same goes for the UI (which is a bit obscure but moody!)

i am a writer by mmisspelling 2021-10-06T22:42:17Z

I really liked the atmosphere and some of the phrases and bits were genuinely really cool. The videos were great and i wish there were more of them, I also wish the story went a bit more somewhere, unless I missed the point :P

As others have pointed out maybe allowing 1 or 2 letter mistakes would've been great but overall good job and really nice ambiance! I wish the typing effect didn't clip as at the end it became a bit annoying.

ileftbehind.me by thevinter 2022-04-06T07:14:21Z

@velvetlobster I fixed your issue, not sure what caused it but i think it should work for you now. (It remembers the progress so you don't have to start over)

@steve-dragon Thanks for the long review. Appreciated it. I agree with the story part, I'm not a writer so I kinda went with the flow there, I agree it could've been better but I'm glad you appreciated it overall :)

@yogurtthehorse Thanks for trying it! Sadly the keyboard thing is caused by inconsistencies in the html5 audio player. I tried fixing them for hours with no luck :/

@13x666 The typing is indeed slow, but it was made that so that even non native speakers could understand it. I should've added an option to skip to the end, but didn't have time to do it :(

@wouter52 I'm sorry that happened. I'm noticing some weird behaviour there but im not sure how to fix it. Probably a race condition... If you can provide me the name you used or directly your user token in the cookies it would help me with debugging why it happens. Thanks.

@okamit Glad you appreciated it, thanks.
