Very cool game! The camera is a bit off tho. On the second attack some spruces covered the view. But I've managed to shoot every last one o'them) Simple but engaging gameplay! Keep up the good work!

defectivemelon 2020-04-22 03:04

I like this take on Oregon trail -- I agree I had some camera issues, especially when the caravan was moving towards the camera. Overall some fun gameplay, dodging bullets worked really well. Would've been cool If I had to consider my ammo usage as well

hexiez123 2020-04-22 04:13

I really like the graphics and resource management. The shooting feels a bit weird, it I think it would be made better with a top-down camera a having the character face where your mouse was pointing.

eamon-kane 2020-04-22 04:18

I like the look of the overview and the music was fun, certainly kept the stakes high. I did find the character a little tricky to control depending on the ambush angle.

san2020 2020-04-22 04:40

Awesome starting music! cool flying camera, relaxing, eagle like. Combination between resorce managing and shooting

congusbongus 2020-04-22 07:35

The presentation is really nice here, it's amazing you got in 3 different mechanics - combat, ally/crowd control, and resource management. It could have done with some balancing though, and the choice of control scheme was a bit weird, but all in all pretty fun!

ion-programming 2020-04-23 02:00

Felt like my allies never came close to dying, unlike me. Got to the end though! Nice work.

saltfactory-studio 2020-04-23 02:34

@kupnu4 @defectivemelon @hexiez123 Thanks for playing and giving us feedbacks, we really appreciate it. The camera mechanic could certainly improve if we had more time, but overall it turn out pretty good.

pepperkep 2020-04-23 04:59

A westward expansion themed game fits the keep it alive theme pretty well. The combat was fun, but I wish the resource management aspect was more important. Great job!

egawag 2020-04-23 21:30

I liked the take on the theme! Those main menu graphics were awesome and set a great mood, also great art overall I cared for my cubey cowboy hat wearing buds.

zubspace 2020-04-23 21:37

I really like the idea of mixing RPG elements with realtime 3D action. I made it through the first run with one ally. The last battle in the woods was exciting!

I like the day/night cycle and the blocky environment. Moving the player feels a bit random, also because of the fixed camera rotation. But I really enjoyed the action, fighting with my teammates. Good job!

hamrathdoesldjam 2020-04-23 21:44

Really nice game. The camera was sometimes bad with trees hiding the action and I'd have prefered left mouse button to shoot. But the music and graphics are cool and so is the game itself.

saltfactory-studio 2020-04-24 02:34

@san2020 @hamrathdoesldjam Glad you guys loved the music. Took some time finding the appropriate track, but it was worth it.

@egawag They sure turns out pretty cool.

@zubspace Having teamates really makes a difference in gameplay.

@pepperkep @hamrathdoesldjam We agree, we can definitely work on improving those aspects of the game in the near future.

god-colo 2020-04-25 05:57

I really love that wild west aspect of your game! The music and the sound effects fits well! And I like how the camera changes when we are attacking! This is better instead of the camera staying static! Greato Jobu!

joemid 2020-04-25 07:10

I could feel the dread creep into camp the night before we rounded the last bend. It seemed as if this whole expedition had been doomed from the start. Oh, we had been warned many times, but heeded none. The pass had been so far unforgiving, and many good allies had fallen to the enemy. If my instincts were correct; the worst was yet to come. As the sun peeked over the snow-capped mountains, I cinched my herb poultice tight and loaded the last of our ammunition into the Colt Navy. Our provisions were low, but with a little luck- we might just make it out and onward to the promised lands. We might just- The sound of gunfire shattered my daydream. I scanned the horizon- and the puffs of revolver smoke filled my guts with doom. In that instant, I knew the truth- today, victory was not ours to be had... Thanks for the game!!!

ankou 2020-04-25 07:13

Neat idea! Would definitely work better with a rotatable camera, but the game was pretty fun regardless. The resource management felt a little unbalanced over time though; past the halfway point it was pretty much only worth getting the herbs to heal up, hah.

savvu 2020-04-25 08:32

The assets are awesome and the concept remoinded me of some old mmorpg quests where you had to escort some character to another city! The camera animations where really spicy as well. Nice entry and GOOD LUCK!

saltfactory-studio 2020-04-26 03:05

@joemid That is an impressive narration of the game, maybe we should've included something like that before the game start, really set the overall tone of the game. Thanks for the feedbacks!

@ankou We had a bigger plan for resource management but had to cut back due to time constraint, but we're glad that you had a great time.

@savvu Thanks for playing, the camera animation is really cinematic, we are glad to be able to implement that in. Good luck to you too.

josephbyam 2020-04-26 22:43

I'm pretty terrible at these kinds of games, but I could tell that there was a lot of thought put into this.

greendinogames 2020-04-27 12:33

Awesome idea. I like the concept of the management system in a western/action game. Good job!

nathan-wiles 2020-04-27 16:07

Very cool theme and great execution on it. Love the setting. Really well-done gameplay loop too, I like the rotation between resource gathering and defending the caravan. Made it all the way to the end on my third attempt and had a lot of fun. The camera and the controls were tough though. I really wish the camera rotated with the player, and shooting in the direction I wanted with only four-direction controls was tricky. I would have liked either mouse shoot or and automated point and click kind of deal like Diablo. That's my only gripe. This is the kind of game that I hope people keep building on post-jam. Congrats and good luck!

likirus 2020-04-27 16:14

This would have been really amazing with a 3rd person camera, aim with the mouse, shoot with click and WASD to move relative to the direction you are looking. Still a very solid game though, especially the graphics.

eduardogacn 2020-04-28 05:41

good game

jk5000 2020-04-28 06:10

The idea is good, but the game really feels unfinished.

bjornkri 2020-04-28 06:25

Liked the concept! Had some issues with my controller: I could walk around just fine but nothing mapped to shooting the gun, so I tried to beat the game by running around behind the enemies and draw their fire while jumping around like a madman. Worked pretty well until the fourth wave where there was a small height difference and I stood on the baddies' heads while they and the allies shot at each other without anyone hitting anything. Otherwise, good mood, well executed.

saltfactory-studio 2020-04-29 02:25

@josephbyam Yes indeed, we hope you had fun playing it.

@nathan-wiles @likirus We understand that control and camera could certainly improved, we'll definitely work on implementing mouse control in future game as we're learning. Thanks for the feedbacks.

@bjornkri There are still a few minor problems that we didn't have time to address, but we are glad that you enjoyed playing and leaving feedbacks.

microchasm 2020-04-29 04:48

I like this art style. The rocks are nice and the characters are adorable. It's a really good concept for an LD game as well. My favorite strategy was to flank the enemies and draw their fire while hopping around. J is an awkward key for shoot, having it mapped to a few keys might be a good idea. J, space, and left click maybe, and then let the player decide.

thevinter 2020-04-30 13:48

Played it on stream, you can find the vod on twitch.tv/thevinter. I had fun and the game was balanced! I would fix the camera and change the shooting mechanics since they felt weird.

jay-berlin 2020-05-01 10:55

Great little game that balances resource management and a shooter. I think if you connected the resources more with the third person shootout sequences, it'd make for a really interesting balancing act. For example, maybe you could use some of the wood to fashion better weapons, or feed some of your food to your horses so they'd move faster and could outrun some bandits. Otherwise, a great game, and I had a lot of fun playing it.

francisco-lucas 2020-05-02 04:46

Congratulations for the good work! It was very funny! I just didn't think it was practical for the J button to be the shot button. It has good potential to be explored and I loved the theme!

I also invite you to play our game to

fatpenguin 2020-05-02 13:02

What a cute little game! Good job, especially for finishing it on your own! I really liked the idea and how the camera zoomed into it :) the characters were sweet, made me laugh, lol. I also liked the whole western atmosphere :) If you would like to polish this a bit more, I'd try adding a bit more of a fight system and the player being able to dodge bullets, maybe with qicktime events? I also think the player should be able to bear more damage (maybe because he's the Sheriff or something?) as it would then make sense that you wanna stand in front line and protect your men because they otherwise could go down easily (and you would miss their damage) also colouring the different bullets would be helpful :) (which one are yours, which ones are from the enemy) Also, sometimes the environment, mostly trees was in my sight, maybe add sort of an invisibility to the assets if its between the player and the camera or something :)

and last but not least may I offer you a bit of a lighting advice that I myself learned since my last gamejam: 1. change the lighting mode from gamma to linear (you can find that one in the project settings under the tab "Player") 2. in the lighting tab (settings -> lighting) turn on realtime global illumination and then click "bake" in the right bottom corner, will immediately make your lighting look a lot better :) (in the settings of your light, which I presume is a directional one, check the hierachy, add soft shadows :))

Again, good job!

saltfactory-studio 2020-05-03 02:28

@thevinter Wow, we are glad to hear that you played our game on stream, thanks a lot for the shout out.

@microchasm @jay-berlin Glad that you guys have fun playing the game, and leave us really useful feedback and suggestions. We will be sure to make some improvement before the next LD comes around. Thanks a lot!

@francisco-lucas Thanks, we'll be sure to check yours out too.

@fatpenguin First off, really appreciate your in-depth feedbacks, we could really used this knowledges for future work. If we decide to continue working on this game then we can certainly add in more mechanics and gameplay like you mentioned. Nevertheless, we thank you for playing our game, leaving great feedback and recommendation, and sharing you advices.
