LD46 — Keep it alive

Ages of New Earth by HitchH1k3r 2020-04-23T05:25:26Z

The 3D cards are super cool. It seems like if you misstep only a little bit you pretty quickly get thrown in a positive feedback loop where the resource that is causing you to do poorly can only get worse. It's possible I'm just missing something. Nice job on the look of the game though. It seems like you managed to get a lot done in the short time span.

Until We Freeze by icxon 2020-04-30T05:27:59Z

It's kind of cool you used only the default unity meshes. It makes the keeper very capsule like. The survival aspect definitely could have been made a bit more important. I never even noticed that you could cut down trees to get fire wood. The game has a nice peaceful feeling and I enjoyed it.

Morse Code Hero by ratly 2020-04-23T18:25:00Z

This is certainly an interesting entry. I think I learned something while playing it. I did run into a glitch while playing the abcs where the entire input filled up with white even though I was not pressing space.

Please Stay on the Line by kleinzach 2020-04-25T22:56:08Z

The lighting in the game is really great and the sounds on the monster add a lot. The font made the text a little hard to read sometimes and it would have been better if the game automatically set checkpoints instead of the player having to manually save a lot. The game has a great mood and the idea of having both the navigation and the phone calls to multitask works pretty well. Great job!

Keep it Live by TeamMonumental 2020-04-29T19:39:52Z

This is definitely one of the best interpretations of the theme that I have seen. On the faster levels clicking the ban buttons can get pretty annoying, and I wish on game over there was a restart button instead of having to go back to the main menu. Definitely a really great idea though and a very polished looking game for a game jam.

Hostage Escape by Maksym 2020-04-25T04:17:18Z

This game is super satisfying to play. I do wish the rotation controls were a bit more intuitive since getting the rotation perfect on the weapons is a large part of the gameplay. A little bit more difficult of puzzles towards the end also would have been nice. I love how you managed to make completing a level feel really rewarding through the slow motion and the particle effects. I enjoyed playing it and there's definitely further potential in the idea.

What the Firetruck!? by dvdfu 2020-05-01T15:44:32Z

This game has a great feel and I really enjoyed playing it. Apparently I am a terrible fireman. I do wish there was some way to know where the fires were if they are not currently in view. If there was a fire on the opposite side of the map it was difficult for me to realize in time to save anyone. The way the destruction can pile up over time is great and the amount of details is impressive for a jam game.

Me And My Bat by zguba 2020-04-22T18:36:41Z

Once I went to the bottom level I could not get back up to the top level because I could not consistently jump through the blue platforms. This seems like a glitch because in the video jumping through a blue platform is clearly shown.

The sound effects in the game are great. I really like the YEAH when you get fuel back to grandma. The particle effects are also really good.

Flame Keeper by codexus 2020-04-23T17:48:31Z

I found the first puzzle just about impossible on high settings but when I switched to low settings I managed to get it on my second try. Not quite sure why that is but it might have to do with framerate. The lighting is really good and I like the wide variety in the types of puzzles. The movement was a bit sluggish which made the platforming a bit iffy. The Olympic torch idea is a pretty lit interpretation of the theme. This is really impressive for a solo entry!

You Reap What You Shoot by darkfrost 2020-04-22T22:09:50Z

The fact that when you move a different direction you have to wait for the character to turn and then move feels a little weird. That may have been because I was playing with wasd instead of with a joystick. I love the title jingle that plays when you complete a level.

Repair-bot Rodeo by ectucker1 2020-04-22T20:43:13Z

The concept is really great and I was able to complete the game just fine. The one problem that I had with it is that to be efficient you need to have exactly five robots on most buttons but its hard to select precise numbers of robots. I enjoyed playing it and what you managed to accomplish in the short time span is pretty impressive.

Remnants by xbcw 2020-05-01T17:07:00Z

I had quite a bit of fun with this once I figured out how it works. The way enemy health works is not exactly intuitive. Also healing cards feel kind of useless because for many enemies their damage output is way higher than what you can possible heal. +25 population isn't very useful when the enemy is doing 150 population damage per turn. This is probably the best card game I have played in the jam so far though. My strategies got better as my understanding of the game increased so I think overall you were pretty successful!

Defense of the Anka: Wraith of the Duck King by kogyblack 2020-05-12T03:47:35Z

The concept is cool but it definitely need to be developed a bit further. Figuring out how to build is also rather difficult. It's really cool you made your own engine though.

Keep it Olive! by Nathalia Hohl 2020-04-25T22:01:24Z

This is pretty fun to play. I think with some sort of a radar it would be more interesting because the player would have better awareness of where the enemies are coming from. I like that you have versions for all the major operating systems. The low poly aesthetic looks pretty good and throwing rocks is fun.

Tyson Lee: KEEP IT ALIVE EDITION by CPTN-B 2020-05-08T03:46:24Z

My biggest issue with the game is the lack of feedback. Some basic audio would be nice and it definitely needs some sort of feedback to show a level is complete. I was pretty confused for level one when I connected true to the output and nothing happened. I enjoyed the use of logic gates to make puzzles but level 4 seemed like a huge difficulty spike. It also seems like it would be rather difficult for someone who had not encountered logic gates before to figure out. This was still pretty enjoyable though and the simulation element is cool.

The Forest Below by raphy 2020-04-22T03:57:40Z

This game is really pretty! It would have been nice if you could move with either the wasd keys or the arrow keys.

You might want to add that there's a Linux version on the Ludum Dare page since currently you can only see that on the itch page. I really appreciate that you made a Linux version.

Hope by Darylsteak 2020-05-12T02:28:31Z

The graphics and audio on this are really great. Some of the mechanics are a little jank (particularly the ladders). I also accidentally hit restart once since it is right in between the use key and the raise/lower platforms keys. Those are really minor complaints though and this is a really great entry.

Broadcast Bandits by zoarfy 2020-04-26T00:59:56Z

It's really cool that the game has an intro and the aesthetic of the cards flipping is cool. Some of the systems seemed bit glitchy to me. At one point I had two space ships appear and at another point my ship was surviving on zero health. I'm also not really sure the music fits the story of the game. The idea of movement happening through the cards flipping is great.

Mount Ookie by Brusi 2020-04-30T20:52:28Z

This is a very well designed game with a great concept. Knocking out wasps by throwing the into each other was very fun and I think it has the right level of difficulty. The height of the jump made the platforming a bit awkward but I got used to it. Really nice job!

Lantern Lagoon by Quade Zaban 2020-04-23T05:41:29Z

This has some really great Zelda dungeon feels to it. The camera felt kind of finicky to me. Perhaps it was because I was using a mouse. The environment is great though and I liked the central mechanic.

Tunnel Vision by Avi 2020-04-29T20:29:43Z

The aesthetic is great and the way the ship destructs on game over is really cool. The fact that the environment generates really close to the ship makes it pretty difficult to avoid stuff though. This is somewhat alleviated by the slow motion but not entirely. Sometimes when I started the game by clicking start the game would quit when I hit space. I think this has something to do with the navigation for the canvas containing the quit button. The procedural generation creates some pretty interesting environments and the game looks really good. Great job!

Ghost Ship (Jam Edition) by Dylan Fries 2020-04-22T17:35:53Z

This game has really nice mood and the gameplay was pretty fun.

It's not entirely clear that blue particles are there to refill fuel. Adding a sound effect to gaining fuel could have made this clearer. It's cool that you tried to use different camera views for a more cinematic feel but some of them can be pretty jarring because of how pulled back they are compared to the main camera.

Getting the missiles to explode by colliding with each other was pretty fun. The game world felt properly ghostly and I enjoyed my time with it.

Salad Days 2: Pipe Dream by HarveyU 2020-04-22T21:13:49Z

I like that you interpreted the theme in a way that made it peaceful. I initially thought you had to place pipe on the ground, but once I figured out you could place it in the air I enjoyed it. I still do wish it was a little bit easier to place the pipe (maybe they could snap together somehow). The mood is very good though and the way the water works is cool.

Delicious Letters by ZakAmana 2020-05-08T21:16:47Z

This is an amazing concept and the art is great. I think it would have been more interesting if the player had to figure out the admirer's preferences from how their letter impacted the fire rather than the game out right giving the player the information.

Ice Ice Baby by Fabrizio Spadaro 2020-04-27T16:38:41Z

This was a nice amount of content for 48 hours. I liked the challenge of the later levels. If there was just a bit of audio it would make the game feel quite a bit better. It was also a little hard to tell that certain objects (such as trees) were supposed to be in the foreground. The sliding is a nice idea for a platformer and the fact that it changes how the block controls is cool.

Ice Ice Baby by Fabrizio Spadaro 2020-04-27T17:18:44Z

Ooops, didn't see this was compo. Edited my comment

Nuclear Watch by _Kassjak_ 2020-05-08T04:30:22Z

I love the aesthetics and the mood. It's a shame you opted out of the mood category because that's one of the strongest parts of the game. It's pretty easy right now and I wonder if it would be more interesting if all of the windows were always open so there was more of a multitasking element. Great job though and I loved playing it.

KungFu Grandpa by YiNian 2020-04-23T04:44:32Z

The training was pretty fun. I have no clue what the stats do or how the fighting works. I enjoyed it though.

Mammoth Expedition by Abdurrahman Khallouf 2020-05-08T03:30:49Z

Just finished it. I enjoyed but the decision making and it's clear you put a lot of effort into trying to make decisions interesting. It seems like prioritizing mining above else always pays off since it's the only thing tied to making progress. There's also quite a few spelling mistakes but that's a fairly minor complaint. It was a lot of fun playing it, so great job!

The Land I Live On by Danilo Freire 2020-04-29T19:01:52Z

This is a pretty great concept. I really like the intro and ending. A few of the mechanics can have some weird behavior though. The camera when you are by a wall is pretty weird, and if you press jump at the same time as forward or when you walk into a wall your jump can get eaten. It's also a little weird that you don't have the inertia from a moving platform that you are on top of. An easy way to implement that in Unity is by making the character a child object of the moving platform that they are on. The variety in the platforming and watering keep things interesting, and it's cool that you made a peaceful third person shooter. Great job!

ANUX by thelemba 2020-04-23T18:14:58Z

This is a great puzzle idea. I think the intention of the second puzzle is to teach the player the bullet timing mechanic but it is possible to get through the puzzle just by aiming the bullet well and not using the timing mechanic. While having seven different bullet timings is cool, all you really need to get through the game is the 0 length and 6 length bullet times. Just being able to switch between those two speeds would have simplified the controls while not removing any depth from the puzzles. Those complaints are both really minor though. I enjoyed the game and thought the puzzles were very well designed.

Taberu Bakemono by hiro.e 2020-04-30T21:04:03Z

The graphics are great. The crafting and platforming combination is certainly something I haven't seen yet. The water being an instant death seems a bit harsh. It also did take me a bit to realize the crafting worked by using the mouse. The game is certainly interesting so great job!

Grooveaholics: Rock-Bottom Bell-Bottoms by dilauraba 2020-05-01T15:29:06Z

Like other people I had a bug where dancers would become stuck at the door. The art and music is great and I appreciate that you supported all the major operating systems. The game is over pretty quickly and I'm not entirely sure how I won. It would have been nice if the game was a little longer and I got a bit more feedback on whether my actions were helping or not. The concept is pretty fun and overall great job!

platformEGG by Tricky_Fat_Cat 2020-05-08T21:38:44Z

The fact that you have to restart from the beginning and the huge jump in difficulty between levels made this fairly frustrating. It would be nice in the duration you held the jump button had more of an impact on the height of your jump, and throwing and grabbing the egg with different keys is fairly unintuitive. The difficulty would not be quite as bad if mechanics like the saws were introduced in a place where they are easier to get past before introducing them in harder places. That's a lot of complaints but this is still a really good platformer for a jam and the sounds are great. I really enjoyed playing it!

Shmup with grappling hooks by chuchuw 2020-04-30T05:38:09Z

This is great concept for a shmup. The hooks feel really good. I think if it was a bit harder I could have gotten a little more into the feel of it.

Party Never Dies! by arashi 2020-04-25T22:20:00Z

This game has a really great feel to it and the gameplay is interesting. I do wish that when you went to select a record it didn't cover up the records you are currently playing. This means that you cannot see if the timing is up when you are choosing records. That being said the concept is interesting and the multitasking element is pretty fun.

Manifest Destiny by SaltFactory Studio 2020-04-23T04:59:22Z

A westward expansion themed game fits the keep it alive theme pretty well. The combat was fun, but I wish the resource management aspect was more important. Great job!

Vivere Computatrum by Will F 2020-04-22T03:42:37Z

The concept of monks trying to write down knowledge from a dying laptop is really cool! It did take me a while to figure out how the mechanics worked though. The guide posted here did help.

Keep It Powered by rob1221dev 2020-05-02T04:22:37Z

This is really hard because the levels require perfect timing on the platforming while also sometimes requiring puzzle solving. I enjoyed it but eventually did give up on a level that just seemed out of my reach. The platforming is really solid and it's pretty cool the game combines puzzle solving and platforming so well. It controls very well so the difficulty does generally feel fair.

Doggo Defense by FizzyApple12 2020-04-27T18:19:42Z

The voice lines on the boss are great. There's definitely quite a lot of content here with eleven levels. The level where the platforms fall could use some indication that the platforms are falling, and it felt like my deaths there were a bit random. The cube level also made me a bit nauseous, and in general I think the camera might have been a bit too sensitive. I love that there's a linux version but I'm not sure why you decided to make it a 32 bit executable. The sword animations were a lot of fun and in general the theming was pretty good. The game over screen had a bit too much dog death for my personal taste. Very high coolness factor on this game with a dog, a light saber, and slow motion. Nice job!

Save Grave Dave by Bananabas 2020-04-22T21:29:10Z

I really like the interpretation of the theme with both the scientist and the undead trying to stay alive. The gameplay is mostly just digging random graves and hoping for the best though. I'm also not sure what the different meters were supposed to represent. The art and sound effects are both great.

Chivalric Saga by tutoa 2020-04-29T18:35:25Z

This is fun idea and the absurdity of it all is great. Sometimes it seemed like the screen scrolling didn't give me enough time to react to obstacles. It also gets really hard really fast. Definitely has an addictive quality though and it feels pretty good when you manage to build up speed.

May2020-Attack Of The Karens by Daniel Whittaker 2020-05-12T03:31:57Z

This is pretty funny and also well polished. The gameplay gets somewhat repetitive quickly though. It looks nice though and I had fun so great job!

A Samurai Friend Of Mine by voidpointer 2020-04-22T17:05:24Z

This was a fun game! The fact that you made it in a custom engine is pretty cool.

The combat was pretty fun, but a couple things made it a little more annoying than it needed to be. I liked that death is one hit as it keeps the fights rather tense which is nice. The hurtbox on the samurai might be a bit too big as sometimes it seemed like attacks that were not touching the sprite would kill me. Also, enemies can be knocked outside the area the player can walk in.

The trail effect on the samurai looked really cool. The fact that the goons have dialogue during the fight is a nice touch. Overall, I really enjoyed playing this.

Catastrophe: Wildfire Firefighters by Kaappis 2020-05-02T03:35:49Z

I never got past scenario 2 since it seemed really hard. The fact that the scroll bars weren't actually functional confused me for a while but I see that you just didn't have time for them. Being able to see cooldowns would have also been nice. I spent quite a while playing this and really had fun with it. Really appreciate the aesthetic of an early PC game.

Type or Die by pepperkep 2020-04-30T20:20:59Z

@avi The screen turning off is the game over state. You have to press the button on the computer tower to restart the game. Sorry if that isn't completely clear, maybe with more time I would have made the button glow or something. There was a bug where the restart wouldn't work on fullscreen for the web version which I just fixed. I'll be sure to try out that other typing game!

A Balloon's Journey by jukrapopk 2020-04-28T05:19:08Z

This was pretty tough but fun. Really love the sea monster.

Weeble's Tower by ewil 2020-04-29T19:48:01Z

This is good for being your first game ever. There's not really any gameplay other than spam space but it looks pretty nice. Consider adding a thumbnail to get more people to rate it.

embershrooms by togo sepultraut 2020-04-29T18:15:19Z

This has a much more interesting theme to it than most of the keep the fire alive games. The lack of audio definitely takes away from the feel though and it also seems rather buggy. It does feel like there is potential in the concept though and the visuals are really good.

Feed The Fire by Nuanda79 2020-04-27T22:16:27Z

It's certainly interesting how many different takes there have been on keeping fires alive. The gameplay was simple but enjoyable. Very mysterious that this forest has so many aliens...

Bond Wire by Ebediam 2020-05-09T04:51:22Z

Grappling hooks are fun and there certainly is quite a bit of potential here. The targets you have to aim at are really small though which can make levels rather frustrating at times. I enjoyed the Portal feel though and with more polished grappling this could be a lot of fun.

Invocations by hypermania 2020-04-22T21:55:21Z

It took me a little while to figure out that the paintings were the tasks. Also some of the tasks are a bit unintuitive. For example, the fact that w decreases blood flow and s increases it seems inverted to me. The concept and art are really good though.

Fire Game by dceddy7 2020-04-22T21:40:39Z

Having to keep a fire alive is a fun interpretation of the theme. Cave man nipples are always a plus.

Toasted Dreams by HakunaSoft 2020-04-29T19:18:03Z

The gameplay is pretty simple, but the particle effects and the title art are good. It would be nice if it started a bit easier. One way to do that would be to make it so that for the first ten or twenty seconds there weren't any jumps of two lanes.

Keep Pit Alive! by BunnyDen 2020-04-30T21:13:35Z

The animations are really great and the horse is cute. The controls are a bit too slippery though and the collisions seem kind of off. It also wasn't always clear what was dangerous. For example, some pits had collectibles are continued the level whereas other pits caused death. It's pretty fun though and I played it a fair few times.

The Dark Cave by Tom Stephenson 2020-05-12T02:33:58Z

I thought this was going to be somewhat of a Limbo copy but I think the clicky footstep audio and visual effect from stepping on stuff gave it its own identity. The mood is really good and I had fun even though it's pretty easy.

Tankageddon by Sean Sullivan 2020-04-22T04:17:29Z

The combat is pretty fun and I really like the particle effects on the explosions and enemy fire. The arena did feel a little big for the number of enemies. Overall good job.
