LD25 — You are the Villain

Conquest Of The Mayans by PTSnoop 2012-12-17T20:45:00

It's a good idea...
You should add a skybox of the universe (instead of bricks), that should fit better. Also, you could add more options to actions... I just kept hitting white beams and taking action, since refusing seemed to be worse...
And the game freezed when I hit a beam (away from the pyramid) and a meteor destroyed my pyramid..

LD26 — Minimalism

MNML by docix 2013-04-29T04:26:00

Nice graphics and idea.
The version for web does not plays music, although... I thought you didn't had time to create the music, than tested the Windows version.

Schizophrenic Astral Return by saggiosoft 2013-04-29T04:15:00

Very cool game xD

DHRDR by johnste 2013-04-28T23:33:00

It said I need to have Lua... Could not play it.

Minimum by jlm 2013-04-29T03:13:00

Very simple and well done!
Although lacking music (and an quit button), and the collision being, sometimes, imprecise, I liked it xD

Also, I'm waiting to test SDL 2.0 on release.

Minimum by jlm 2013-04-29T03:45:00

Yeah. 48h is a bit short for improving xD
The quit button issue is caused 'cause the window created is taller than my screen (notebooks..) so I can`t click the quit button..
Anyway, I liked it.. Reading the code right now, `cause I program in SDL 1.2 (most time + OpenGL).

LD29 — Beneath the Surface

Sprites.CSV: Cute,Snuggly,Versatile by awppy 2014-04-30T04:43:00

Really nice!
The concept is awesome. A full game in this concept would be great. Nice job!

Intense Combat Underwater - ICU by Salamander3 2014-05-02T00:34:00

Nice concept.
Sadly no music :/
Next time you jam with Unity, though, release a Web version... It's way simpler to review and for distribution.

Skull Mountain by 8BitPimp 2014-04-27T22:50:00

Nice graphics.
Gameplay was slower than I thought it should be, but very well done.

Have you created this liteGame "engine"?
Always looked for a engine directly on SDL, but I couldn't found any. Started to do my own, but now I'll start from scratch again, since I had problems last time I was programming it.
Great job!

The developers conundrum by nilstastic 2014-04-27T20:08:00

Nice concept.. Reminds me an extremely hard web game that uses alot of html and stuff to me solved... Don't remember the name tho...
;-)

Scuba Sam by Boodog 2014-04-30T05:00:00

Nice audio.
Gameplay wasn't bad, but if you reduced the collision box of the player and added a restart button, it would be way better.

One Cold Night by hyouko 2014-04-30T04:22:00

Nice concept. Snow was really well done graphically.
Audio annoyed me a little bit, since the snowstorm effect kept repeating every one second and it was louder that bark and sniff.
Couldn't find anything in 3 attempts, but I like the concept a lot.

Mind Therapy by Detective Pixel 2014-04-28T01:25:00

Awesome!
Great game you did here!

Cave by fueelin 2014-05-02T01:00:00

Nice game. But I could only play once and onlu for the first level, since the game is being created above the top of my window and I can't drag it down, so I lose part of the game, sometimes to be unplayable... Maybe you set up a higher res than I'm using (1366x768) or just creating the window at the wrong position...

Core by rockenstein 2014-05-02T01:09:00

Clicker games are fun, but I had to save $1000 to get to the next buying option.. Not a good scaling.

LD30 — Connected Worlds

Connected Worlds Airlines by quiore 2014-08-26T02:52:00

It was funny to develop this one!
We started late Sunday and couldn't properly work on Monday, but we done great.
There are visible bugs (like some airports not creating planes..), but we plan to fix them asap..
First time on Jam was a good experience!

Connected Worlds Airlines by quiore 2014-08-27T03:01:00

Thank you, hbocao!
Nice feedback. We had so many issues, but the dev was good and we could create the basic game (we planned many more things, though).

Jakub Koziol, maybe the assets weren't loaded yet.. I'll create a post-compo version with a loading screen and fixing some bugs. Thank you for testing!

LD42 — Running out of space

Room Tetris by Hilvon 2018-08-19T18:10:43Z

Very nice. Lack of music hurts a lot, but I enjoyed the experience. Also a timeout would be good to at least set a game goal, since you simply give more items and sometime you will eventually run out of space and not be able to do anything. I really liked the idea of reaching every single package in the room, so you have to care about not blocking the paths.

Intergalactic Inhabitance Mission by NNNIKKI 2018-08-16T23:25:47Z

Nice job. At the start I didn't get the black hole, but after some runs I got it. The design was very minimalist but the controls were good. I think more work on the game design itself would be welcome (but LD is a hard jam xD). Keep improving, nice work

Shrinker by interpol 2018-08-19T18:20:19Z

The only way to "win" is choosing "+5 Ammo", right? If you don't choose this you will run out of space very fast. I think recover some ammo automatically would be good, because doesn't matter if you take no damage, you have to shoot to win and when you do this you lose space, so for me there was no option, you can only choose the ammo if you want to play more.

LD46 — Keep it alive

Cat Ball by pabulum 2020-04-22T07:48:56Z

Nice game. Physics are good, not unresponsive (that is usually the problem for 2d platform games).

I didn't like the keyboard controls so much, I could control it with arrows or WASD, could jump with left click or space but couldn't use kick on keyboard (or if you can it's hidden haha I tried clicking every key). Having jump on space available made me go on my auto mode (WASD to move and space to jump), but it's very bad when you have to jump, be precise with WASD and also move mouse to aim and hold right click... Too much, and using only mouse to jump and kick was fine (would prefer WASD to move, space to jump and arrows to aim, would feel natural).

Slo-mo was okay, I think it could be improved but I'm not sure how. Aim was hard to predict, I think a better way would be to show a short line (like Angry Birds), it's easier to adapt and understand where to "ball" will go.

Levels were good except the precise kick since I don't think it was necessary. I was even trying to find a good solution because it didn't seem right.

Music and art were great, really nice job.

Overall you did a great game. I would like more levels :( it was fun to play.

Iguanathon by Cord Gamedev 2020-04-22T08:08:31Z

Funny game haha At first I didn't get the objective, then I decided to just follow the wall and no snakes were there haha

I think it would be a better fit to do a stealth game (I think it was more of a keep running game). Camera control with mouse would be good, I couldn't see the snakes around me.

Since you're a team and you're using an engine I would suggest working a bit more on the game design and what could be interesting and challenging.

Keep doing it and improving :D

Defense of the Anka: Wraith of the Duck King by kogyblack 2020-04-21T22:43:17Z

@loudrasiel Actually the game is hard at the begin but after surviving some waves it becomes very easy hahah We didn't have time to balance it or add more types of items... Having to build the engine takes a lot of time hahah I don't recommend doing this for a 72h game jam xD

Thanks for the comment

Beast of Mista by Silthreent 2020-04-22T07:29:48Z

I couldn't get past the beast coming and killing one villager. Tried every button the game shows, sometimes it just crashes as soon as the beast kills one of my villagers. I really like city construction games and I think I would like it.

As a constructive criticism I would say you could focus a bit more on controls and showing the player what he/she needs to be able to play your game. In a 48h/72h game jam it may be difficult, but if someone can't even play for 10 or 20 seconds it's something that should be focused on early on. I couldn't be able to see the really idea of the game, so good controls is a must to show your idea. Try to focus on giving an experience. Usually we want to do a big thing but it's hard to do in this restricted time, so first guarantee the player is able to play your game, then go implementing your idea. The idea can turn out very in the end, it's not a problem.

Keep doing it!

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Color Coded by Random-storykeeper 2020-10-07T06:09:07Z

Hey, a friend of mine sent me this game just because I'm colorblind haha

The game is very simple, the music just stood out, it set a good mood. As a proper feedback: 1) I think the game has no objective. I tried to play without getting hit to see what would happen, so nothing else happened. I had to see your screenshots and gif to understand that the spawn is actually killable, because I tried to hit it and there was no indication that it was dying, so any indication that the object or enemies were hit, or how many hits you still need to shoot to kill it, is a great thing to add. Also some simple scores or indication of progress (how many levels you need to complete to win) are simple things that usually we forget in jams but they really makes the game better.

2) art design was really weird. Not a bad thing since jams are to experiment, but you had a very colorful background, one-way platforms were fitting since they were simple white blocks, but player and enemies seems to be from another dimension. They were more detailed and had a different art direction.

3) I think the weapon swapping is not a good design. There's no indication on when the change will happen and you need to see all weapons to understand the difference. I don't know how to improve this mechanic though, but I was a bit annoyed by having to fight and my weapon changing randomly.

4) the enemies having different weaknesses is a nice concept. I think they have the same texture though, right? But I liked the idea.

Nice job overall. Keep doing games and improving :D LD is great to have some feedback and improve game design

Circuit Escape by kogyblack 2020-10-07T04:29:36Z

@walaber Thanks for playing. I was watching your stream and commenting, it was fun to see your daughter try to get under 8s and you just jumped in and got 4 levels in a row haha Really great to see that you liked it very fast. Thanks for playing on stream

Circuit Escape by kogyblack 2020-10-07T04:31:01Z

@lazenman actually we added 1 second or more on each level. Maybe it's still too tight haha but thanks for playing and for the feedback

Circuit Escape by kogyblack 2020-10-08T17:51:37Z

@arad-hamidsamiee Wow, thank you very much for the kind words. Really glad you liked it xD I think to get to the top we need an artist and also our own music. This jam was superb though, we really dedicated to do a very good game based on our idea and I think it ended up pretty well

Circuit Escape by kogyblack 2020-10-08T17:52:08Z

@oddsocks Thank you. Glad you liked it xD

Circuit Escape by kogyblack 2020-10-08T17:54:00Z

@smiley This jam was very smooth (we almost didn't sleep, though haha), we refactored the physics multiple times to have the feeling we wanted.

I'm not sure why the audio category is there. I'm pretty sure I unchecked it. I'll edit the post and ask to not vote on audio. Thanks for the heads up.

Circuit Escape by kogyblack 2020-10-08T17:56:49Z

@animaster Trackmania is great, totally agree that the feeling is the same haha I'm also a fan of it and I really enjoyed looping around to improve my timing. But I watched some friends playing and being really upset to not be able to complete the levels (even after adding extra time), so I think for a jam we could add some difficulty levels or a dynamic time limit to help people finish the game without repeating too much

Circuit Escape by kogyblack 2020-10-18T03:48:34Z

@saurterrs Actually I completely forgot about using arrow keys haha I have a 60% keyboard, so I don't have arrow keys, and after some hours coding the rest of the team just got used to WASD haha Sorry. Thanks for playing :D

WHILE (TRUE) by smiley 2020-10-07T04:43:10Z

Very nice. As a programmer I really like the concept, it's very direct and fun. I would say that as a general game idea I feel the public is way smaller in these kinds of games, because even developers sometimes prefer to not code outside of work, and some non-developers sometimes feel that understanding the basics of a textual logic is a bit hard.

Anyway, really good execution. Music set the mood very well, the gameplay was very straight forward. As people said it's too easy, but it's expected, it's a game jam. Actually my game was the opposite, being too hard, even after I added extra time after submission haha So I totally understand that it's hard to balance.

Tip of My Tongue by KeithSwanger 2020-10-11T07:14:44Z

Really good. Had to cheat after not knowing haha tried more than once, really nice concept.

I would suggest to indicate somehow how many tries you still left. Maybe tell you the answer when you get it wrong also.

The Power Loop by maxflav 2020-10-09T09:46:59Z

Really nice, well done puzzles. I had to think a lot on the last levels haha Nice job

Derps 'n' Dergs - One shot to save the world! by Kooh 2020-10-11T07:50:05Z

Too many people already commented a lot, so I'll be short. Nice concept, took me some tries to understand how the game works. I feel that the dialogues from the same character are completely not connected, and I think it would be way better to have a dialogue tree, or even some variation because it gets repetitive quite fast. I know you had too many characters and it's a game jam, so you didn't have enough time xD Art is extremely good. Really nice job!

Groovy Loops by Simpathey 2020-10-07T06:49:43Z

Nice job. The game mechanic of adding layers of sound is very good. I think initially you should be playing the first layer though, it avoids the issue of having no music playing at the start.

I used on every level the wall jump mechanic. My view is that it was not intentional and ended up being used as a feature. I think the level design could be improved to not use this wall jump so often.

I think the movement could be improved, since it's a platformer you basically rely on having responsive controls. And the put block key was a bad choice, in my opinion, since most of the levels were going to the right, moving the finger from D to E was time enough to die, I had to use the other hand to hit E (I think arrows could be used also, right? I have a 60% keyboard, so it was not an option for me and WASD should suffice).

Another point of improvement is graphics. I think some very basic platforms would be enough to improve the graphics.

Got your game on walaber stream yesterday, it really looked interesting :D Nice work!

Clockmaker by Tristan Mansfield 2020-10-07T05:38:12Z

Hey, you played my game yesterday on stream, I for sure came to see yours because it has a beautiful art and seemed fun.

The game is very good. The gameplay of The Company of Myself is not so innovative, but you knew how to use it properly, have a proper theme for the game and a very good concept. I was not expecting to use my controller, and I had to go through comments to see why normal keyboard keys were not working. So a suggestion is for sure support both keyboard and joystick (I have my joystick connected to PC the whole time), or show some simple UI that points out that joystick is being used for input.

Also for constructive feedback I have some points. 1) since it's a timing game, it's good to have time markers on the clock so you can have a better time syncing. I had to decide some points, like 1/4 or 1/2 or 3/4 of a full rotation to know when I had to do something. 2) physics is not perfect, so avoiding tight gaps would be good. I simply gave up at the 3 clones level (I don't know if you have more after that). I had 3 clones stacked and the 3rd one was jumping and getting inside the gap, but it took me 5 to 10 tries to fit him into the gap (holding right doesn't automatically puts him into the gap, which in most games would), so after setting everything up I saw I had one clone in a wrong location at the end and had to redo the gap jump. After 3 times having to redo I had to give up :/ 3) I think this is totally okay because it's a 72h jam, but the clone's replay are not deterministic haha sometimes they just missed their jump and I had to wait for one cycle or two to try again. Actually a good suggestion would be to have a button to restart the cycle with the same clones. 4) controls did not completely match. I don't know if it's because I'm using a DS4, but start just closed the game and reset did nothing. When I got stuck like the image above I had to lose some cycles to get back to a useful position. It was okay because I only softlock like the image above, if I had to restart from beginning more times would be frustrating.

Anyway, beautiful art, nice design, nice music. Hope I can see stumble on your work next jams :D

Clockmaker by Tristan Mansfield 2020-10-08T18:24:22Z

@cyphyrgriffon haha I had a way worse setup for the 3 clone level haha It would work, even though it was not necessary, I feel that if it was easy to get into the gap easier I wouldn't be frustrated haha I think it's a good game design improvement to think about if you guys plan to develop some game having the possibility of getting into 1-high gaps (so player has more options and if they don't see a better solution they don't get frustrated by the physics not being so friendly).

I think my DS4 controller maybe was configured with Steam control settings, I'll retry your game later and disable Steam control settings. Now I need to get through the 3 clone level xD

Thanks for the game!
