I really liked the idea, even thought the puzzles weren't any hard or required much thinking. In fact, I completed most of them without even looking at the code. I had one problem, which almost made me quit, that is that the fps was very low, at like 10. Graphics and sounds are both great. Edit: apparently I didnt have hardware acceleration on. Toggling it made the lag go away.

carsten 2020-10-05 15:54

God damnit, Bob! Why use loops when there is recursion? Great idea with the theme and nice implementation. Love the graphics

bigbadollie 2020-10-05 15:54

I noticed a little bit of lag in parts. Great idea and aesthetically pleasing. Good job!

amkingtrp 2020-10-05 15:57

Absolutely brilliant. Loved the pixel art and the puzzles were well thought out. The music got a bit grating after a while, but reminded me of old Amiga games, so I'll forgive that. :)

smiley 2020-10-05 18:04

@nestral pheeww.. I got worried there a bit. I guess hardware acceleration can be good sometimes :)

smiley 2020-10-05 18:04

@carsten yeah.. I will not hire Bob :)

smiley 2020-10-05 18:05

@amkingtrp thanks :) the music can be disabled by pressing M.

sayuri 2020-10-05 20:04

Puzzles could be a bit harder, but they were fun. Idea is really cool but I liked the aesthetics the most. Those lights were LIT.

jeffrey-hwang 2020-10-06 02:53

Capture.PNGCompleted the game! The game was interesting and fun, although the puzzle elements were too easy. Hope you can polish it up with harder puzzles and release it as a full game! It was really fun.

smiley 2020-10-06 03:07

@jeffrey-hwang spoiler! ;) yeah.. I posted this for disucssion how to aim puzzles in a game that player will spend 3-5 minutes to play: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/while-true-1/the-difficulties-of-balancing-a-game-for-a-jam

zen 2020-10-06 04:15

Fun Little Game! Loved the soundtrack and the puzzles. Wish they were a little harder and you had to read the code to work it out. Overall cool concept and innovative way of following the theme

tad 2020-10-06 05:52

Really nifty idea. Loved the execution, too. I got serious Monaco vibes from the art style, which is super-cool. Excellent work!

josephdevelops 2020-10-06 06:19

I ended up streaming this game on Twitch. Very unique concept. I think you got something here. Exited to see if you develop this concept further. The game was just the right lenght.

netmute 2020-10-06 06:57

The screenshots look cool, but I couldn't get the game to load in any browser, sorry

kuro 2020-10-06 10:42

Nice game. I liked how you described the puzzles with code, but those could have been a bit more complex. Sound track is great, aesthetics are very cool and stylish. Nice use of the theme too. Kudos.

smiley 2020-10-06 20:01

@josephdevelops thanks :) I watched the recorded stream now. I'm always nervous seeing someone play my game. :)

smiley 2020-10-06 20:02

@netmute that is weird. We have tried both FF and Chrome on a few different installations and computers and it's been working fine. Maybe your graphic card can't handle the shaders that Unity 2020 produces? That seems to be the issue with both Safari and old Edge.

smiley 2020-10-06 20:04

@kuro yeah it's a tricky balance in a jam. Make the game so hard that people don't like it and doesn't see all the content or just make it 5-10 minutes. But we had lot of ideas of puzzles.. who knows we might continue working on it. :)

valentin-roche 2020-10-06 20:46

Liked the mood, the story and the puzzles a lot ! I had fun playing this game and would love to see more levels in the future ^^

nectanebo 2020-10-06 20:49

Great music! I like the art, the mechanics and their presentation too. The level design is good, but the puzzle features could be a little bit more difficult. Good entry!

dracesbane 2020-10-06 20:51

Really enjoyed this one. Puzzles were simple, though perfect for a Jam I think. Managed to get to the end and wanted more. Music was a bit loud, overthrowing the other sounds, but good job with including buttons to disabled sounds.

evercloud 2020-10-06 20:58

Style is nice (both music and graphics) and the code lines are a great idea!! I even felt this game could become an educational product. Well done!!

eugenik 2020-10-06 22:56

Amazing and adorable!!

kogyblack 2020-10-07 04:43

Very nice. As a programmer I really like the concept, it's very direct and fun. I would say that as a general game idea I feel the public is way smaller in these kinds of games, because even developers sometimes prefer to not code outside of work, and some non-developers sometimes feel that understanding the basics of a textual logic is a bit hard.

Anyway, really good execution. Music set the mood very well, the gameplay was very straight forward. As people said it's too easy, but it's expected, it's a game jam. Actually my game was the opposite, being too hard, even after I added extra time after submission haha So I totally understand that it's hard to balance.

patrickrmc 2020-10-07 15:43

Really good audio, just the little reverb on the walking made the game feel more alive, really fun puzzles aswell, some of the puzzles I just went into the room without reading the console and surprisingly got out of the room with no issues hah, very good game though!

smiley 2020-10-07 16:08

@patrickrmc thanks :) I did actually setup reverb inside Unity and it sounded awesome but to my dissapointment that didn't work in the WebGL-build :( So that would had been very cool with different reverbs depending on the roomsize :)

smiley 2020-10-07 16:09

@kogyblack yeah balance is diffcult. To make the player have some challenges but also don't want to spend lot of time on content that never would be seen because the player got stuck and did give up after a few minutes. I will check out your game :)

smiley 2020-10-07 16:10

@evercloud yeah there is so much that can be done :) like a puzzle with voltage and amperes and the player have to control ohm to open the door and so on.

smiley 2020-10-07 16:11

@dracesbane luckilly I did turn down the music just before releasing the game. I should have added controls for it.. but atleast it can be muted :)

thomas-volpato 2020-10-07 19:51

The game is really fun =D Graphic is simple and nice. Sounds fit well the scenes too

esphoros 2020-10-07 20:12

This game is legendary, especially for a jam game. It's so polished! The puzzles are simple but extremely fun, the graphics are very pleasing, the music and sounds add to the atmosphere of the game, and the controls are perfectly smooth. The game had a really nice flow to it, and I enjoyed playing immensely. I also like the ending. The only thing I could really suggest to change if you did a post LD version would be to have more levels that get more difficult, I guess. Awesome game, though, very fun to play

arthur-paulino 2020-10-08 01:17

Wow, very polished! Good one!

rainyday2800 2020-10-08 03:00

The graphics and music are great. As a programmer myself I feel for poor Bob. I think it'd cool to change some code lines or something to increase the challenge. Overall really good game.

webox 2020-10-08 03:02

woaah really cool kind of "meta game" loved it, the only thing I can comment is that sfx felt a bit off, as they were too realistic for the kind of style of the game, other than that, brilliant, some really nice game design skills and a very interesting take on the theme, extremely original. Also puzzles were nicely designed!! Congrats!! Solid entry!

lemonlimelife 2020-10-09 02:41

Great game! I really like the idea of reading code to figure out how to solve the puzzles and break the loops. I also think the atmosphere fits the concept really well with the art style, the music, and the lighting. It feels nice and polished too.

chris-mulholland 2020-10-09 04:48

"Unfortunatly he will be stuck here forever fixing the same loops over and over again." poor bob. Loved the music and lighting! Cool game

kassjak 2020-10-09 14:32

While the graphics aren't the best, the idea and execution was great! I enjoyed solving the puzzles, listening to the music and clean sound effects!

Also poor Bob..

neowhoru 2020-10-14 14:02

I did it :D great game i really enjoyed and got caught by the atmosphere. also i really love the music.

negativice 2020-10-14 20:57

I finished it! It was nice and chill and I enjoyed it! Maybe the puzzles felt a bit too easy, but overall I think the experience was great!

Edit: Also forgot to mention, that when the elevator part was happening I thought you will pull Portal and throw me in a pit of fire or something

rubixnoob13 2020-10-16 15:53

I love that we both had the same idea for a game title lol! I actually originally wanted to come up with some type of programming puzzle game, but didn't get to spend as much time as I'd like working on mine and had NO idea how to implement this. Your game worked as intended, I didn't notice any bugs, and the music was pretty catchy! Only suggestion I'd have for the future is more puzzles and maybe a non-linear path for more area to explore but yes, this was a lot of fun and probably the highest ratings I've given out so far this jam ^_^ Edit: Also, I appreciate the idle animations for Bob looking around. Subtle, but I noticed them :)
