LD46 — Keep it alive

Feed the Tree by Outfrost 2020-04-21T23:13:43Z

Yeah. Unfortunately I mismanaged my time on this one, and left myself with no time for audio, and 666Savior had less time to begin with. I decided not to opt out of the category though, so you can rate this on the complete lack of sound ;)

Feed the Tree by Outfrost 2020-04-24T06:23:09Z

@cheesepencil Thank you for describing that bug as a feature haha :D And yeah, the Web build seems just broken af. Might take it down 'cause it seems like a deeper issue with Godot's HTML export at the moment.

@kevin-prehn Thank you! The axe was supposed to be a weapon against enemies, but the enemies were late to the party, so it's mostly useless. You can practice some very awkward axe throwing though ;)

Feed the Tree by Outfrost 2020-05-13T01:06:10Z

Thanks a lot for the feedback, @honest-dan, @cg-fred, @solifuge! Those are some very good and helpful points. We really appreciate it!

@solifuge I follow you on Twitch, but unfortunately missed the stream. Thanks for pointing us to the vod! <3

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Mind the Gap by coderTrevor 2020-10-25T07:42:44Z

Hey, I just tested the Linux build, it works just fine! Like @eldogg mentioned, all you need to do is give `LD47 - Mind the Gap.x86_64` the 'execute' permission, which my file manager did for me automatically :)

```sh chmod +x 'LD47 - Mind the Gap.x86_64' ```
or right click it in file manager, go to properties, permissions, and enable 'execute' for all.
The Curse of Cattenburg by Honest Dan 2020-10-08T04:31:35Z
Legendary! I can't get enough of this game :grin:
I did a playthrough on Twitch! https://www.twitch.tv/videos/763967602 (unfortunately didn't get to listen to game sound, as I was running through Proton and it didn't seem to like something)
The Curse of Cattenburg by Honest Dan 2020-10-09T05:44:50Z
Speaking of platforms, yesterday I thought to myself I would've liked to have this game on my Android phone to play on the can xD
But I would definitely prioritise Linux and macOS builds first, since in Unreal those should be possible to make with quite little effort I think, and the game is already coded for desktops.
Quit the Cycle by Oblivion Games 2020-10-16T17:32:49Z
Cool take on the theme. I've seen several people get discouraged seemingly by the repetition needed before the story progresses. I've only completed the game to find out if there was anything there :D I think it's actually not the repetition that discourages people, but rather the long wait times and walking in between completing actions.
Did you use basketball noises to create the train noises? :D
Suicidal Boyfriend by Federico Giorgi 2020-10-24T22:23:52Z
I just got around to checking your fixed Linux build. Sorry it took me so long. Unfortunately, the cinematics and success/failure screens still didn't show up. I have no idea why this might be. I also tried running the Windows build through Proton, but it just crashed. So sorry I wasn't able to experience this game the way it was meant to be. I did see some gameplay on other people's streams though, and I really liked the way you portrayed the topic, and the overall quality. Great entry!
@bredera just to clarify, that's 40 at the end or 40 on the 1st level? :)
Pillars of Anguish by Outfrost 2020-10-08T21:22:39Z
Thank you @jose-bonilla!
@coding4rtist Do you mean the final part of level 1? Or a different one? Thanks for the review :)
Pillars of Anguish by Outfrost 2020-10-08T22:53:21Z
@coding4rtist Gotcha. That one's gonna be up for tweaking :)
Pillars of Anguish by Outfrost 2020-10-10T01:43:35Z
Thank you all :sparkles:
You did finish it, @honest-dan. You had the patience and force of will, and you persevered. Repetition, noted! We're possibly planning some tweaks and further levels for the future :)
Pillars of Anguish by Outfrost 2020-10-12T02:02:25Z
The game has just been updated! Have a look at the changelog to see what we've fixed. And give it a go!
Obviously not a lot has changed gameplay- and level-wise, but it should work a bit nicer now, so if you haven't finished all the levels, now is a great time to try again!
Pillars of Anguish by Outfrost 2020-10-12T02:37:34Z
@ubershmekel Thank you for the detailed feedback! We're definitely considering making the starting area less tedious.
@raphiell Any particular bits of the platforming that felt imprecise? We know that jumping on a slope is finicky (you have to jump from a standstill and then start moving sideways), and a few people have said there is a bit too much inertia and a bit too little speed.
Pillars of Anguish by Outfrost 2020-10-12T03:29:26Z
Thanks @king-cacti! The levels getting a bit long from the replays is something many people have said so we'll be looking into that later!
Thank you all so much for the feedback! :heart: We want to continue working on this project, and your comments are going to help us a lot :)
LD48 — Deeper and deeper
D.N.N. Engineer by wujood 2021-05-09T00:41:00Z
Thanks for having me check this out on stream! It was quite fun figuring out the puzzles, even a bit humourous when I got confused about node degrees not making sense, and then the rotating node floated onto the screen :smile: I liked the challenge and the simplicity! Just didn't feel very closely related to the theme ;)
Hey! [I played your game on stream!](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1023963888?t=02h24m43s)
Very nice, serene little experience. Soothing vibes all around. I only wish the music was more subtle, to blend in a little bit better with the ambient :)
Black Magic, White Cat by Lyxil 2021-05-16T23:49:43Z
Hey! [I played your game on stream!](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1025150194?t=02h21m16s)
This is so cool! Before I knew it, I got quite invested in the story. The writing, even though based on a fairly simple premise, felt really smooth, and pacing was on point. I loved the visuals too!
I would've liked to hear some music to go along with everything, but I still really enjoyed reading.
I definitely want to return to this later and finish reading after LD ^^
Leaky Faucet by Astavie 2021-05-16T01:45:48Z
Hey! You played our game earlier on, so I went and checked out yours. [I played it on stream!](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1023963888?t=03h45m22s)
I have to say it's quite an original and unique idea at a game jam. I really enjoyed investigating the case, uncovering details, filtering out 'jesters', and trying to piece together compelling evidence. Really well crafted story! Probably the most brain-cell-rotating experience I've had this LD.
Also, I live next to a kangaroo.
Magic Frontier by Firebelley 2021-05-15T23:01:32Z
Hey! [I played your game on stream!](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1023963888?t=01h44m26s) Thanks for providing a Linux build :)
I liked the idea of blending several different genres in a non-stressful way. I do enjoy _not_ being put on a clock, so it was definitely fun solving the puzzles. Snappy controls and nice art, too! The game feels very polished indeed.
If there is anything I could ask for, it would be more variety in the challenges. Nonetheless, quite a solid and enjoyable entry!
Also, thanks a lot for [godot-export](https://github.com/firebelley/godot-export) :)
Corla by JUSTCAMH 2021-05-16T00:17:37Z
Hey! @justcamh played our game last weekend, and I just found out about it, so I decided to check out yours! [I played it on stream](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1023963888?t=03h04m22s) :)
I really like the concept and the core mechanics. The gameplay feels polished, and so do the graphics! It doesn't seem very challenging at first, but I found out it was surprisingly easy to run myself into a corner when I tried speedrunning through the levels.
I think it could be a little bit clearer what each enemy does / how they move, but I did learn after seeing each a few times. Pretty nice overall. Very cool idea with the deck of cards :)
Thanks for providing a Linux build!
Re:Ship by thevinter 2021-05-09T00:55:11Z
An interesting take on the theme for sure! I quite liked the audio and atmosphere of the game, even though the Linux build wasn't rendering the background right :smile: I got confused by some of the mechanics, and I wish I had time to read important prompts and make informed decisions (as it was the game didn't pause when a dialogue box popped up), but I did like the complex yet rather coherent gameplay.
Thanks for providing a Linux build, and for having me play this on stream!
Planet LD48B by Outfrost 2021-05-02T23:51:00Z
Thanks everyone, we really appreciate your feedback! It's really valuable, especially as a source for learning, but also because we want to finish the game post-LD :)
We definitely want to make it clearer when something happens in game and how the mechanics work, so we'll be working on that. Visual hints and sound effects will likely see improvement too, as we have a few unused ideas and SFX lying around.
A common bit of feedback is that it tends to take a long time to get places. We've seen a bunch of ideas for how to improve that, so thank you! Getting lost is kinda part of the 'exploration' experience, but obviously we don't want to make it boring :smile:
It's also an oversight on our part that there is no way to restore HP, other than getting slain by an enemy, which, coincidentally, is sometimes the most convenient way to return to camp :smile: It could've been as simple as regenerating health while at the camp, so we'll make sure to patch up that gap.
Look out for new updates on **[itch.io](https://outfrost.itch.io/planet-ld48b)** and in LDJAM blog posts!
Hey @justcamh, I had no idea you'd be playing on stream haha! And don't worry, I knew you were trolling me back for Pillars of Anguish :laughing:
There was supposed to be a "boss" kind of thing in the final area you discovered, but, guess what, we ran out of time x) Thank you for the insight from your stream, it's given me extra thoughts on how to improve things :)
Thank you for playing too, @meep! Really appreciate the feedback :heart:
Crust by exopunk 2021-05-09T00:48:03Z
An amazingly polished title with exceptional moodsetting. I was immersed (pun intended) the entire time, and even though the gameplay might not be my favourite style or genre, I enjoyed the experience.
Thank you for providing a Linux build, and for having me check this out on stream!
Hey! [I played your game on stream!](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1025150194?t=03h13m53s)
It's an interesting take on the theme. The enemies and environment felt kind of like the many generic "computer virus" type villains, but I have to say I like the attention to detail, and how consistent the art style is. There wasn't a lot of variety to the gameplay, but I did like finding out how to fight the one 'boss' I encountered in the game. Neat sound effects, too - why no rating in audio? ;)
Congrats on your first LD!
Labyrinth of the Undead by D34TH0FTIT4N5 2021-05-09T00:33:52Z
Very cool game, especially for a first jam, congrats! I really liked the snappy controls, and props for doing some fun procgen stuff. Mazes are interesting beasts :) I played your game very early on, and like I mentioned then, I probably would've liked it a bit more if at the start of a level the game gave you some kind of indication as to which way the exit is located. As mazes get bigger, it becomes impossible to know which path to take to get closer to the exit, so if you make the wrong coin toss and arrive at a dead end, it can feel discouraging. Nonetheless it was fun!
Thanks for having me play your game on stream!
LD49 — Unstable
Improbability Fighter by Wendel Scardua 2021-10-07T03:31:33Z
A fun little thing! Bullet hells are definitely not my type of game, but I did enjoy the different mechanics and the challenge. Minimal yet compelling.
Mr Plutonium by KekkoDude 2021-10-10T00:51:02Z
An interesting set of mechanics. I would have liked if the next key to use for jumping was displayed immediately upon jump, instead of waiting to land, so that double jumps would be more doable.
Hazmat Magic by Ismael Rodriguez 2021-10-08T00:54:50Z
First and foremost a very satisfying experience! Snappy controls and thoughtful but relaxing puzzles, coupled with just the right amount of juice. Lovely put together. One distraction was that the bass kicks in the soundtrack were a lot louder and stronger than the rest of the music, so they felt really harsh on the ears when listening through headphones. Neat overall!
The Last Light by Neon Glass 2021-10-09T23:32:19Z
I loved your take on the theme! Very fresh-feeling mechanics, too, generally quite an enjoyable experience. The main criticism I'd have for the game is that jumping to invisible tiles could use something like a wider FoV or other form of enhancing the player's frame of reference, to be able to tell how far we're jumping (especially since there is no inertia to keep you going when you let go of [W] in the air). Also, the music and SFX could _definitely_ use some normalising, and the white tiles would look much better if they were a bit dimmer and had visible shading.
Neon Tower by Sli 2021-10-10T01:22:41Z
Really liked the physics in this one. They're pretty smooth and predictable. Dropping a block into a tight opening isn't going to disturb and collapse the whole tower, which is very welcome. I would recommend making desktop builds, because they can help with things like input lag, which is very important for the kind of controls you've gone for. Simple but pretty graphics, overall excellent entry :)
The Penguins Below by michaelaranda 2021-10-08T01:46:45Z
Super cool idea with the controls in this game. It's less about tight timings and narrow targets and more forces you to think about your moves and exactly how much water should be in your ballast reservoirs. I fumbled with the controls a bit, cause my instinct was telling me [Q] and [P] were "up", but they weren't "up" in terms of submarine movement, so it tripped me up a few times. Very neatly put together, awesome vibe.
SheepWorm by Elmos Minion 2021-10-07T01:45:24Z
It was really hard for me to figure out how to play the game, or do anything, because performance on my system was pretty bad. Even besides the framerate, I had trouble figuring out what my objective was gameplay-wise. I guess I needed to shoot all the sheep, but with the way everything moved around, it seemed like a largely impossible task. Still, a cool entry, very cool graphics (even if a tad slow :sweat_smile: ) and an intriguing take on the theme.
Coffee Crisis by Outfrost 2021-10-07T18:51:01Z
Thanks for checking out our game! Loving the feedback so far. Maybe we can improve a few things for later!
Coffee Crisis by Outfrost 2021-10-08T02:02:18Z
@martin183 Interesting. I checked and the binary has execute permission inside the zip. How does macOS run apps typically? Do you launch `LD49.app`?
Coffee Crisis by Outfrost 2021-10-08T03:21:45Z
Thanks for checking it out @forik! Anything in particular that felt strange for you about the controls?
Coffee Crisis by Outfrost 2021-10-08T18:41:26Z
@steve7411 Ah, unfortunately if it is due to codesigning, there is nothing I can do about it.
As Steve said, for anyone running macOS, it should work if you open a terminal in the same folder as LD49.app, and run: ```sh LD49.app/Contents/MacOS/LD49 ```
Feed Me Pizza! by yikescloud 2021-10-10T02:39:09Z
Not a big fan of the gore, but I do appreciate the work that went into the art! The pizza box physics were quite satisfying too. Great job!
Of course, I didn't rate Audio since you have 3rd party soundtrack.
Edge of Entropy by eupde 2021-10-07T23:30:57Z
I enjoyed the vibe of the game. Initially, the RNG punished me several times before I really understood how I could make a difference to the outcome of each run, but then things went better, I got more upgrade money, and it gave me a much better chance at fighting off the Chaos Cat. Could probably use a few tweaks to the RNG here and there, or to the game's feedback, so that there are more opportunities for the player to make meaningful choices, but overall a fun experience!
Wonky Brew by civmaniac 2021-10-10T03:11:43Z
Very neat! It took me a bit to realise the distinction between ingredient preparation and rituals, and which one I had to pay attention to the icons for, but once I got over that, the gameplay became quite enjoyable. Loved the art, enjoyed the challenge and the variety in the game.
Drunk Hill by Jvdwijk 2021-10-07T01:12:30Z
Funny take on the theme :smile: The soundtrack, as well as having to repeat a whole level of drunk movement after each failure, got a little bit repetitive for my liking. Perhaps it could all have been helped by some indication which way the drunkard was currently leaning, to help navigate tight obstacles. Well done though!
Unstable Tricky Table by Pomo 2021-10-07T02:42:57Z
I had a strat, and I failed. 5/7
U-49 Meltdown by Blue Pin Studio 2021-10-10T02:14:51Z
I had some trouble collecting the audio logs in the web version (at some point they stopped reacting to my presence) and the performance made the scenery a bit hard to keep track of, but it was a cool little thing nonetheless.
Manicat by RexTGun 2021-10-07T21:05:24Z
I struggled to tell what I was suppoed to do in the game. After destroying 30+ enemies, the game appeared to implode on itself and take the browser along with it. It was... interesting? :joy:
AFTER SUN by rufson 2021-10-07T04:18:21Z
I loved the depth of this game. So many little things that either influence how you play, or just happen in the background, and so intuitively and with no explanation needed. Super neat. The game had issues playing in Firefox, so I didn't quite experience the sound the way it was meant to, and the fullscreen-on-click was a little annoying, but these are generally excusable technical difficulties with the Web :) Great fun overall, I really enjoyed it.
Falling Tower by Simpathey 2021-10-08T01:23:44Z
An interesting take on the tower building type of game. Initially I wasn't sure what my end goal was going to be, but turns out I just hadn't read the itch.io description to see the highscore goal :sweat_smile: Not too challenging, the game leaves you room for some strategy and experimentation which is very welcome. Simple but enjoyable. Nice moodsetting, too.
Boat History by etrealjunior 2021-10-09T22:47:18Z
Very cool and nicely laid out, even if it's a simple puzzle platformer. I like the water mechanic and the toilet flush noise that comes with it :smile: I wish some of the terrain collisions were a bit smoother, and that I could try it out as a desktop (Linux) build to prevent some web browser hiccups.
Lapis Vitae (Point&Click Adventure) by MelekTaus 2021-10-08T00:19:40Z
Really nice feel of the environment. I loved the game's self-aware humour and humorously blunt interactions. The controls and mechanics felt on point, and you did a really good job putting everything together. Can't say much about the assets, since they were pre-made, but I can see a lot of care went into making this a playable game.
Snake Using Windows by Benjamin Halko 2021-10-07T03:13:42Z
The game thought (0, 0) is the top-left corner of the main screen, so on my system, it plopped itself half-and-half on a secondary screen and completely outside any screens. Nonetheless, a very interesting concept and a fun little bodge. Well done :D
Destructo by JPGFG 2021-10-10T00:21:05Z
Flashing the blocks that are about to fall 1 turn earlier is a nice and thoughtful mechanic. I liked the simplicity of the game, and the console makes it extra clear what just happened. What I'd improve upon is a bit of balance (healing seemed expensive but also not really essential), as well as the tile finding algorithm for movement. Great and enjoyable entry!
Oh, Hello? by itsBoats 2021-10-07T21:37:43Z
I like the concept! I wish the physics interactions were a bit less sudden and jerky, maybe it would help if you set the pivot point of an item you pick up to where you clicked it, as opposed to always snapping the centre to the player's hand. I didn't have time to play all the levels, but the game looked like it was going places. Great work!
Climb Mountain by Neeko69 2021-10-07T21:58:52Z
Very challenging little Icy Tower-style jumper. I found that the spinning mechanic only really mattered initially, on the starting platform, which sometimes made it unfairly easy to roll off that platform and lose the game instantly. Other than that, with some tweaks to the mechanics, the speed, and the spawning of rocks, this could be a very enjoyable arcade game. I also wish I could see my score at the end of a run. Congrats on your first jam! :tada:
Ghosting the Party by Fer Gueler 2021-10-10T01:46:58Z
Very cool idea, amazing art, great writing and choice of music. Regrettably, the minigame segment could use a lot of work, from making sure it's not so terribly unforgiving, to making it a bit more interactive, to implementing some form of recovery for the player when things don't quite go according to plan. Great work nonetheless!
The Door of Illusions by 2CCs 2021-10-07T22:29:21Z
I wasn't really sure what to expect behind each door, and the game surprised me every time. I didn't arrive at any particular conclusion as to what was going on, but it was a cool experience! Very nice non-distracting soundtrack and nice effects as well. One issue I found was that I couldn't tweak the game's volume externally, because as soon as I tabbed away to adjust it, the game killed its audio stream. This could be solved with an ingame volume slider (and please, set to 50% or lower by default!). Well done! Congrats on your first game jam, very cool entry! :sparkles:
LD50 — Delay the inevitable
Detour by Dustyroom 2022-04-21T19:56:43Z
Neat idea, I liked the puzzle element very much. One potential improvement I could see being helpful would be a better way to tell which way the cube will go if I place a block in a particular spot. Very cool game!
Afwas by thomz12 2022-04-13T03:21:16Z
Tried the Web version on Steam Deck and it worked! I got to a score of 66.
Dancing With Death by Enver Arco 2022-04-13T14:55:42Z
Managed to play it on Steam Deck via Proton. Couldn't figure out a button to restart/try again. Movement worked out of the box with left stick, but I found I couldn't move diagonally - I had to push the stick pretty much exactly up/down/left/right in order to move at any reasonable speed. Music was rather loud. The mechanic of pushing boxes to block entrances seemed interesting, but I didn't have nearly enough time to actually do it before the reapers caught up to me. The amount of doors to unblock in order to get to the fountain also seemed impossible. I liked the mood though!
Night Frights by TheInkSkeleton 2022-04-12T12:57:23Z
I thought I knew what to do, but alas, it's been a long time since I was a small child scared of monsters in the bedroom, so I did not survive the night :(
Really well done visuals and audio. I appreciate the stylised tutorial (although some text disappeared before I finished reading). The limited ability to look around really sells the atmosphere! Even in a brightly lit room, playing on speakers and a small screen, the jumpscare got me good. Played the Web build on Steam Deck, using trackpad, and it worked perfectly.
Train Crash by Falzock 2022-04-14T16:09:13Z
Interesting take on a 'bridge builder' game. I found the need to click the "slow down" button to be more annoying than fun (especially on a trackpad), but gathering resources by crashing some of the trains is a cool tradeoff mechanic. The music, while nice, got very repetitive very quickly. Cool visuals though, and I certainly appreciate the settings menu, where volume is low by default!
The Snooze by krystofjo 2022-04-13T13:46:36Z
photo_2022-04-13_15-40-46.jpg
I managed to play it on Steam Deck via Proton, though on the 1280x800 display, the bottom portion of the frame was cut off. I suspect this has to do with 2D world scaling settings in the Godot project.
I like the idea, and the novel approach to controls. I'm very much a snooze person, though I'm also a night owl and would never set my alarms to 05:00 :joy: The snoring sounds at the start were a little obnoxious ;)
Lovely visuals!
Seed Of Time by theStoff 2022-04-21T16:38:31Z
I love the adorable main character (and I know @666savior can't get over her). All of the sprites, animations and audio feel super polished and juicy. Excellent styling with the colour pallette, as well. Game feels responsive, and it's satisfying when you pull something off. My main issue is that some of the timings and movement combos required are really tight, so as a relative noob in this genre on games, I had trouble getting past certain parts. Still quite enjoyable though!
Re: Placement by Outfrost 2022-04-05T03:20:17Z
We might be able to deliver a macOS build in the coming days.
Re: Placement by Outfrost 2022-04-07T01:47:17Z
We've pushed a build with a few minor bugfixes:
* The robot sounds were a little bit too loud; turned them down * Changed text colour to make the game over screen a bit more obvious * Fixed menu music not coming back on * Fixed robot model accidentally spawning on 1st shift on 2nd playthrough
Nothing about the gameplay has changed. The balance is still exactly the same.
Also, apologies, but we're **unable** to provide a macOS build, because I cannot install the FMOD Engine libraries and copy them to the project without a macOS device, which I don't have.
Re: Placement by Outfrost 2022-04-08T01:32:14Z
Thank you everyone for the feedback so far! We've been keeping the leaderboard updated, and you've all been fantastic :sparkling_heart: Loving your impressions and loving the fact that you've proven that the game is, in fact, _not_ too easy :sweat_smile:
If you come by my stream, I will be playing your games on Saturday and potentially Sunday. Others on the team might be planning something too.
Gonna have to come up with better gamepad controls, but it's something :)
Re: Placement by Outfrost 2022-04-09T18:10:18Z
Well played @wendel-scardua! We've got a new top score :)
And noted about the keys. I've noticed that problem too.
@badcop Getting close there, huh? I should work on my score :)
steamdeck-replacement-score2.jpg
New Steam Deck score! I'm surprised I got past 150k, but the stick + trackpad combo seems pretty effective.
And thank you all for **50 ratings** and all the wonderful comments! :sparkling_heart:
A few things we've been thinking about already: * Adding some slightly more obvious hints on the parts and connectors, especially the heatsink * Ability to rotate the assembly base - we had this in mind during the jam, but didn't have time * Ability to lean over / zoom in on the base * A short moment to familiarise yourself with the parts before shift timer starts * A brief pause between assemblies to check your stats and messages * A brief pause after timer runs out to allow your last assembly to fully roll out on the conveyor belt * Different difficulty curves in terms of available parts * One or two slower training shifts, before the actual challenge begins * Probably changing the "any key to skip the stats screen" thing * A better stats screen; I know that wall of text can be a little overwhelming to read
We'd like to do a post-jam polish pass. Let's see if we manage!
Re: Placement by Outfrost 2022-04-20T01:58:41Z
Thank you all so much for your ratings, critiques and kind comments. This game has received the most LD ratings we've ever gotten, and we're really grateful for that! :heart: Best of luck to everyone at results announcement!
Re: Placement by Outfrost 2022-04-23T02:38:32Z
Happy to hear that @teddyreid :smile:
I think we are inclined to do some post-jam improvements, possibly.
Carpe Diem by Pomo 2022-04-21T19:47:26Z
Mayhaps could use slightly different inertia for going forward/backward and side to side, so that rotating doesn't feel so unpredictably slidey, especially at lower speeds. Also I would like a slightly better chance to save a fall into the void if I have enough jetpack to stop the dive and go back up on a platform.
Crushed by Holtzzy223 2022-04-21T16:12:55Z
Humorous take on the theme, I like it. I enjoyed lobbing The Great Inevitable back up the mountain - until I misplaced a peep and ended up fast-tracking Delaney's destruction.
You Are A Bomb by Benjamin Halko 2022-04-21T19:49:03Z
Such a simple game and yet surprisingly enjoyable. Very good use of juice, and a nice balance of easy to get into but challenging to master.
Abandon Ship by SpaceyLake 2022-04-21T19:30:13Z
I enjoyed how straightforward the gameplay was to get into. The minimap was really useful and easy to understand, too - I only wish the colour of the enemy spawns was a little bit easier to see. I also felt like the doors could've had a little bit more impact - I think there was only one time when I left a door shut on an enemy spawner in order to focus on a hull breach first.
Great entry!
plant. by badcop 2022-04-12T12:17:39Z
My plant grew into a beautiful, colourful bush, vibing softly in the wind. But, inevitably, colourful leaves started turning into a grey mess, and...
`The plant died`
I love the visuals of dead leaves flying off in the wind :)
Doomed Spacequest by FulminDerek 2022-04-13T14:29:05Z
I managed to run it on Steam Deck via Proton, though for some reason I couldn't navigate the menus with mouse, so I couldn't use the settings to turn down the music, which was really loud :(
Once I understood what I'm supposed to do, the game was kinda fun to try and figure out, though I didn't feel like I had a lot of influence on the outcome - enemy ships came from random directions, and it was pretty much impossible to predict whether me turning right will run away from the bunch, or fly directly into fresh reinforcements.
LD51 — Every 10 seconds
server.vasm by IcyLava 2022-10-17T13:36:32Z
It's not every LD that one gets to check out a programming game. It was kind of like an "intro to programming", except I've been coding for 13 years :smile: The game didn't hold my hand too insistently, so I was able to run through the assignments pretty quickly, but I definitely hate it for having me do fizzbuzz again.
It's good that it visualises the steps of the program as it's executed, though I would recommend putting a bit more emphasis on when, why and which register values change, so that it's easier for those without programming experience to get feedback and understand the outcome of each instruction. Adding a bit more contrast and accent to the visual theme of the game would also go a long way I feel.
Tense Conds by Wendel Scardua 2022-10-06T22:46:03Z
Really neat retro game! I did enjoy the strategic aspect of using or disabling certain conds, and keeping track of where things are in the level. Keeps tension quite well!
Groceries Please! by natpat 2022-10-17T19:54:17Z
Working within the limitations of PICO-8, you've created a very enjoyable and relatable little shop game, with nice visuals, audio, and story elements. Props for the polish and managing to balance the gameplay loop within the silly 10-second timer of the theme!
I think I only wish some inputs felt a litte bit more responsive, and everything was a bit less 'retro' (which would necessarily mean ditching PICO-8 for something else, a choice I can't make for anyone!), because I believe you could have made it shine that much brighter if it wasn't for the limitations :smile:
Supply & Command by Hare Software 2022-10-17T13:16:10Z
The driver urging me to immediately take out anti-tank blockades discouraged me from doing what it turns out I was actually supposed to do, which was to take out enemy personnel first, and _then_ blow up the blockades. Based on the flurry of instructions being thrown at me by the game it was difficult to figure out the right things to do, and I felt I was being punished for not acting quickly enough. It didn't help that the autocannon and mortar rotated slowly, so when I was looking at the enemies (instead of at the vehicle), I couldn't really tell if I was aimed in the right direction yet or not - particularly annoying with the mortar, given its reload time. I also felt like the action vs downtime could've been paced a bit better, and the camera motion could use a little bit of smoothing.
That said, cool idea, and well put together! The audio is amazing, the visuals are very nice and satisfying, and the controls, despite the chaos, are intuitive and responsive enough. Well done!
Tumbletris by JavaSaurus 2022-10-09T03:06:53Z
Cool idea, and another game that suffers rather than benefits from the theme :smile: I enjoyed smacking and exploding zombies with barrels, I liked the audio and visuals, and I excuse the bugs :) Zombies throwing barrels was a nice touch. Nice work, especially solo!
Oh and, I would've forgotten; my high score!
Last Pawn Standing - Chess Battle Royale by jsloth 2022-10-17T20:18:52Z
Novel concept and well done too! It's difficult to keep track of all the different types of your own and opponents' pieces, so I think I might've preferred a simultaneous turn-based variety of this, tho real-time hecticness is fun too. Slightly more responsive controls, a better camera angle, and I could see this being a popular stream game!
Dr. Word's Machine by Kaish 2022-10-09T03:14:17Z
A nicely unusual puzzle/escape room type game, with some clever mechanics. I think the jam theme kinda hurt the playability in this one, as it did in probably most other games :smile: I'd spoiled myself a few of the puzzles by watching the game on another stream, but I did enjoy it nonetheless!
Busy Tracks by Outfrost 2022-10-05T19:59:10Z
Hey, I've just uploaded a new build!
Last time the build was broken, which slipped past me, because I only tested the editor version of the game. Anyway, this new build should work fine now. Try it out!
Busy Tracks by Outfrost 2022-10-07T05:35:18Z
Thanks for the feedback folks, much appreciated! :green_heart:
@mika314 @w4yn3r I overscoped massively (as ever :sweat_smile:), so we ran out of time to add hints and cues. The way it is now, you need to look for trains waiting in the tunnels, and clear a path for them to get into the station (set the points, then green on the entry semaphore). I've added a little note to the game description.
Busy Tracks by Outfrost 2022-10-07T05:45:22Z
@w4yn3r Might consider! I never got into making gameplay trailers for jam games, because I like the idea of people going into them with a blank slate, and making their own of the gameplay. Evidently didn't work out in this case but that's my fault :smile:
Busy Tracks by Outfrost 2022-10-08T00:48:35Z
Battle of Nephthys by Milestone Games 2022-10-09T03:43:32Z
Nice throwback to oldschool RTSes. The gameplay was immediately familiar, and the graphics really fit. Props for the strategic depth of the long-term gameplay goal of gathering 100k ore. Congrats on making this happen in compo!
I wish the audio was properly attenuable; unfortunately I had to play it muted as the sfx were painfully loud. I also would've liked some kind of collision on the units, or perhaps a number overlay, so I could tell at a glance how many units are in one spot.
Fall Girl by civmaniac 2022-10-07T05:17:54Z
Nicely done on the visual style and sound effects. Goofy and fun. Jumping onto birbs was probably the most entertaining thing to do. I just wish jumping was more responsive, especially while I'm pressing (or just about letting go) of other keys.
Trashpunk by Pomo 2022-10-07T03:28:11Z
Cool idea, but by the gods, did the controls absolutely dismantle the mood :joy: 99% of the time I had zero clue what the trash_o_bots were doing, where they were going, or where I myself was going.
Having to keep track of three separate things, in different spots on screen and moving at different speeds, at the same time, in order to execute a single attack, was a lot. The bots behaved super unpredictably, I could almost never catch them to do the primary attack in time. Because all of that was going on, I never really noticed when my lives went down (or that I had two lives) and when the inspection guys came by. Pedestrians getting killed by the bots didn't seem to worsen my ratings, only made the bots fly more chaotically.
I'd be curious to see a post-jam build of the game with the chaos toned down, and with more intuitive action mechanics. The audio slaps, and I could see this being a fun take on the theme!
PS. Dear Unity, fix ur goddamn shader transpiler :)
Ten Out by Holtzzy223 2022-10-09T03:19:59Z
The 10-second timer really did not serve you well, huh. The light puzzle is cool, the running back to the lamp all the time not as much :sweat_smile: Some interactions where a bit finicky to do. Nice idea though, and really nice art and lighting! Vfx were maybe a little bit too "loud". I would've also made the camera FoV a bit wider.
Sweet Seconds by Jag 2022-10-07T03:48:00Z
I can't believe I only now got your pun on "10 seconds", hours after playing the game :smile:
Really neat and fun. Clean and aesthetically pleasing pixel art. Nice sounds and super comfy music (cool idea to do all the sfx on the guitar!). Good balance too. I really enjoyed serving donuts and yelling at customers ordering _all the drinks and none of the heckin donuts_. An improvement I'd suggest is hiding the machines which I'm not supposed to use yet in a particular level (e.g. when I'm replaying a level).
Blades of Doom by Benjamin Halko 2022-10-09T03:26:23Z
The game is quite difficult, but it shows you quite clearly what's happening, what you're doing, and why you're not doing well. It's very punishing, but I could see even a tournament (:eyes:) featuring this game, and being quite fun!
I shared some suggestions on stream on what could help some of the output for the player be a little bit more obvious, and pull attention to the right spots. Simple idea and visuals, but very well executed, and I loved the soundtrack. Nice vfx as well.
This is as long as I could survive:
Downpour by chris1919 2022-10-09T02:58:52Z
What a lovely game. I really enjoyed how it's put together, the vibe is easily a 5/5. Nice style, really cute graphics, and the music, sfx and vfx are on point. Congrats on scoping the game well :smile:
I liked having to think for a moment about how to get past some puzzles. I also liked how the game frictionlessly guided me towards what I needed to do. I just wanted there to be more of the world to explore :sparkles: Perhaps the changes in weather hazards (e.g. lightning to wind) could've been accentuated a little bit more, so I don't miss them while timing a jump.
Lab Slime by Cheville 2022-10-07T03:09:52Z
I like the simple idea and clear visuals. I instantly knew what was going on and what I needed to do, at least in the early levels. Quite fun, though I personally feel it would be a lot more fun if the slime animation ran faster, providing snappier feedback, so I could better judge if I'm about to overshoot a tile (and fall) or not. I played at a somewhat fast pace, so I felt the slime was visually lagging behind a bit. Also, text in the menu was a little bit hard to read due to low contrast and cut-off font glyphs. Nicely done overall tho!
FF:10 by dysleixc 2022-10-17T20:27:08Z
The camera field of view could be a bit larger in order to be able to plan your moves ahead of time, and properly avoid getting the "core" hit by enemies. The game is quite unforgiving, and doesn't tell the player how to play; even though the mechanics and inputs are quite simple, it does take a bit of figuring out, and is difficult to play well - not necessarily a bad thing!
Great work getting this done during Compo! Nice visual effects and soundtrack, and the orbiting blocks idea is quite fun.
