LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Shoal by Kerdelos 2022-04-06T15:32:52Z

A simple concept well executed with good graphics and a nice soundtrack. Cool start screen too. The soundeffects of the fishermen made me really dislike them XD! Good design there.

My happy weedy farm by Marin0104 2022-04-05T17:37:21Z

Nice game, quite stressfull. Love the music and the artstyle. Hitting the correct tile was abit hard.

Vomit Mage by jsec 2022-04-06T13:54:20Z

Fun game, nice particles and nice with some music. Would have liked more of a threat from the enemies thought, they could have been faster. It might be how you intended it but the game was dark enough for me to make it hard to see things.

22h38 by Katutt 2022-04-06T18:30:35Z

Cool game. Love the art style and music. The gameplay was really good and engaging. The time thing was a unique take on the theme.

Paper Boy Flyin' High by unplugred 2022-04-05T16:34:48Z

Fun game. Nice art, love the teapot trees and the grass. Nice with music.

Humans to Blame by Relord 2022-04-05T16:25:12Z

Fun little game. Good intro to the controls. Nice with soundeffects. Cool concept.

Climate Crisis by Wilko 2022-04-05T16:56:23Z

Fun game, nice and vibing music, nice graphics. Love the concept that your actions to have a health population also contributes to the planets inevitable destruction. As a jam game it is expected but some better balancing is your first concern if you would like to improve it. Nice that shift lets me place several of the same building without having to reselect it every time.

Abandon Ship by SpaceyLake 2022-04-06T13:24:04Z

@rmrvar nice to hear that you like our game. Hullbreaches drain O2 and sealing with the the nano foamsprayer makes them go away. You can change to the nano foamsprayer at weapon racks. Sealing the rooms to prevent O2 draining would have been a nice feature actually. Hullbreaches can randomly appear, are created when enemy spawner are killed and they are marked with a black pixel on the map.

😝

Abandon Ship by SpaceyLake 2022-04-06T20:25:52Z

@wouter52 I am happy you like it. This is for me I think my most finnished game so I dont have much practice balancing games. Though this one I dont want to be too easy. As developers we kind how things work as an unfair advantage and it is hard to see the game from a player perspective when it comes to difficulty.

Sound is an area that the game lacks. None of us have much practive in sound design so it was low priority. I thought about it at the end and tried making some soundtracks but did not come up with something I liked or something that didnt feel repetitive and a sountrack that people wants to turn off is worse than none in my opinion. Thanks for the tip about bfxr, I will look in to it.

About the Enter key. It is something I have had as an afterthought and is a natural way of traversing menues. Something I will try to have in my mind in my next project.

😝

Abandon Ship by SpaceyLake 2022-04-07T15:27:15Z

@minus Im happy you liked it

ye balancing is kind of hard there are alot of factors to take in account for this game. We did it abit last minute too. If we continue on the game we should try to balance it better and let other people than us playtest to find a good balance.

I also think it is abit hard. A tip from the dev if you think it is har is to focus less on the ones attacking you and more on the spawners because they are the ones actually making the hull damage. Something that maybe should have been explained.

I might be wrong but I believe that with the features currently in the game it would not be fun in rounds of much longer than what it currently is. I believe that abit more than 3 min is the time you need to keep the ship intact.

Nice list of improvement suggestions. I think our main idea have been to make more kinds of hazards and balancing it with more weapon slots for the character instead of character/ship upgrades but upgrades might be interesting too.

I have not thought about multiplayer for the game but it sounds interesting and fun to try to implement. Absolutely something I would try to implement if I continue on the game.

😝

Abandon Ship by SpaceyLake 2022-04-07T15:33:28Z

@reispfannenfresser thank you. We Need to Go Deeper is not at game I am familiar with.

Multiplayer sound like a good idea when you say it.

I have realized that the game is quite expandable. Fun concept of a hazard. Something I might take into concideration if I continue on the game.

😝

Abandon Ship by SpaceyLake 2022-04-07T15:39:09Z

I am happy many people like the game and that people see potential for it to be more than what it is now. It gives me motivation to maybe expand on it, I can speak for @golahirom (the art master) though he might or might not. If I continue I will firstly need to refactor alot, rapid development leads to large technical debt and expanding on the code as it is would not be nice. Though if I do I hope some of you will try potentially upcoming versions of the game.

😝

Abandon Ship by SpaceyLake 2022-04-07T17:58:07Z

@theludovyc i am sorry you did not find the keys. There is a help section that describes how to play including keys. But it is W A S D to move and arrow keys to shoot and spacebar to interact with objects like controlpanels that open doors

😝

Abandon Ship by SpaceyLake 2022-04-07T18:00:03Z

@silverlybee thanks for the feedback if we continue on the game we will introduce mechanics and how to play in a better way. The best way would be through gameplay but it is a issue for me to potentialy adress in the future.

😝

Ecollapse by Daniel Robledo 2022-04-04T22:59:59Z

Cool concept with some evolution I could see this beeing a game I could play for a longer periods of time. Some criticism that I have is that the powers would be selectabels instead of dragable and some kind of indicator to show what water level is the best. The effect of the leaf power was also kind of unclear, I did not give clear visual indication of its effect. I think it had something to do with stopping the chopping of forests.

RUNOUT by RobLaro 2022-04-05T17:07:42Z

Fun little game. I dont know if there is a way to lose and some kind of goal would make it more engaging but a fun idea I believe have evolution potential

Lone Bastion by Cosmo8 2022-04-04T23:30:37Z

Really cool game. The vision concept was cool and both added to the difficulty of the level and gave the game a unique feel from games like asteroids. The three way defense with different ships was also cool. The theme translates to a arcade style game. Not the most innovative but does the trick. I also thought the theme was hard to create something innovative with. Game tweeks that I believe would have made a bit better experience is faster turn time and changing bullet movement as I believed they moved in a wierd and unusual way. Though it is your game and I respect your design.

Why Did I Wait by IndiePixel 2022-04-08T21:48:21Z

Nice conecept well executed. The movement was quite satisfying. First I tried with keyboard and only found space as the equivalence for A and wasd for movement. Would be nice with explanation of keyboard controls. When I switched to controler I got the full experience. Love the visuals and the music. It could have been harder but I know balancing is hard. The dialoge box was acting kind of wierd for me.

Doomsday by TheGoodHunter 2022-04-08T20:31:56Z

Interesting game. Love the visuals

Kinderkaos by Gravityflip 2022-04-05T20:43:46Z

Fun game and it follows the theme in a good way. The gameplay reminds me of "Think of the children". I think the graphics are nice and the soundtrack good. The description of tasks like cookies, poo, scissors and forks was good. However the description of those tasks without explanation of the other hazards like bleach, mushrooms and the road made me overlook those hazards.

Task Manager by ThePockle 2022-04-04T23:10:50Z

Cool art, cool that the game is designed to not need animations but would have been cool with animations. Maybe hard to make animations with the timespan of a jam. I understod the concept of the game that was kind of fun but had a hard time figuring out how to make the tasks.

LD53 — Delivery

Whispers in the Lab by fidrik 2023-05-02T00:43:16Z

Fun platformer! I like the look of the player. The rest of the models are also beutiful. I had a fun time playng through it. The difficult was well balanced.

Age of Mail by Swordfish 2023-05-04T21:15:17Z

Simple game but the art was realy good and the music was also nice. Over all a nice mood about the game.

Marvin's Day Job: Sabotage by Devez 2023-05-04T20:24:03Z

A unique game for the theme. It is by far the most frustrating LD53 game I have played until now at least. However the graphics was nice and the tune pleasant.

Boxbrawl Delivery by Cruise Elroy 2023-05-01T20:10:16Z

I really liked this game! It was fun! The classic NES feeling and sound is amazing. I see much inspiration taken from old the old mario bros game. I also feel like it is well balanced. Could easily kill more time than I would like to with this game.

Boxbrawl Delivery by Cruise Elroy 2023-05-03T14:02:57Z

I have to say that this is my favorite game so far! I have returned to it several time.

Mail Day Mayday! by Thomas_Bringer 2023-05-04T19:49:39Z

Nice graphics, pleasant audio and new mechanics was introduced in a nice manner. Felt simple in the beginning but my hands were full in the end with all the new mechanics. Nice play experience! Good gamejam game!

Ultimate Postal Service by Raivk 2023-05-04T20:50:24Z

Oh my god that was intense! Was not expecting a fast paces first person shooter when the theme was delivery but it was a fun game. Especially loved the voice acting!

K-SANDWICH by mmatt_ugh 2023-05-01T20:27:47Z

Fun little game. Interesting take on delivery. Not my first thought but I guess it also is a kind of delivery

Deliver Us Peace by tadeocore 2023-05-01T22:35:22Z

I like the graphics and the aesthetics of the game. The feeling of presence in the scenario is good. Pretty hard though when a target is visible on screen it is already to late to change course and to return to the target is also not easy. I would suggest tighter controls.

Don't Slip on the Snail Trail by Walnut 2023-05-03T12:06:57Z

Fun game! I always manage to drive over the wrong type of snails. Got a The Simpsons Hit and Run feeling of the game. You managed to get a good feeling for the drift. In many games the drift is awkward but you managed to get it feeling right. I would probably have used a Rocket League style arrow instead of the compass it was not very easy to interpret.

Monster Mail by CodeRaurus 2023-05-01T20:42:25Z

I see potential for the game. But right now it is quite easy. I don't know if there is supposed to be a challenging part to the game or if it should be just a chill game. I completed the main quest before obtaining all underlings. They have stats that I don't know if the game uses. It seem like obsticles were planned but did not make it in the game.

I LOVE the art though! Incredible job on the art!

EneRail by Ryabchik 2023-05-04T19:29:51Z

Fun and interesting game! Nice visuals and good music.

A very ini tiny mini mail turtle game by Boeruchan 2023-05-04T20:56:01Z

Simple game but the art is nice. Very pretty!

DeliverTheSeal by AshStar 2023-05-01T21:00:51Z

Interesting take on the theme and very unique gameplay.

Lonely Train by Zeit 2023-05-04T22:04:37Z

Realy nice game. I love the graphics, the small areas were cool and the tune is very fitting. Very interesting concept. I had a good time playing it!

Galactic Roadside Assistance by SpaceyLake 2023-05-01T20:51:16Z

@emily-ttg I know that it is a little unstable unfortunately.

Galactic Roadside Assistance by SpaceyLake 2023-05-01T21:36:11Z

@kyboon Wow a very generous review of our game. We used the Godot Engine. I think window defender dislike all unsigned software. Don't know how bug free it is. It is actually inspired by the Fuel Rats in Elite Dangerous.

I am aware that the menu is top-left aligned but we did not bother center align it because it was just for the game jam and is a minor part of the game.

We overscoped and the speed of the game is set to be appropriate for feature that did not make it in to the game.

Galactic Roadside Assistance by SpaceyLake 2023-05-05T10:23:18Z

@fusionnist unfortunate that the audio would glitch. Never had that issue. There is not much of our own code behind the audio so might be a Godot bug. Will have to investigate. But I am happy you enjoyed it.

Galactic Roadside Assistance by SpaceyLake 2023-05-05T10:30:59Z

@coderaurus I am glad you liked our game. The pirates are supposed to be a permanent danger that you have to deal with and scare away with your battleship. If we expand the idea we might make them more flexible. Making it so that pirate bases can be destroyed but that new ones will spawn. Because I don't belive it would be good design the be able to get rid of them completely.

Galactic Roadside Assistance by SpaceyLake 2023-05-05T10:36:20Z

@ski11az I am happy you liked our game. The patroling was a last something we had in mind for a long time but quickly implemented in the end. It can absolutely be improved upon, especially visually. I agree that there should be a difference in visuals between normal commmandpoints and patrol commmandpoints.

Galactic Roadside Assistance by SpaceyLake 2023-05-05T20:56:17Z

@skelleroznik I am happy you like it! I know how boring and easy it is to skip written instructions for games. There should really be a tutorial in the game but in a gamejam game I rather work on features and fix bugs than working on a tutorial.

Galactic Roadside Assistance by SpaceyLake 2023-05-17T01:34:06Z

@icxon wow one of your favorites. That makes me happy to hear. We actually did not spend much time considering names for the game. I did not think about any name for the game until @golahirom suggested the name Galactic Roadside Assistance. It was his first suggestion and I thought it was a good name so we went with it. I don't know if he had any other ideas.

Galactic Roadside Assistance by SpaceyLake 2023-05-17T01:39:44Z

@d3kryption I am happy you enjoyed our game. It seems to be the case for many that it takes a while to figure out. The game should really have a tutorial but it is not worth investing time in one with such short development time

Blockade Runner by darzu 2023-05-04T21:44:45Z

The destructability of the boat and towers are realy cool. Very much satisfying to just shoot down a tower. And I is more impressive considering it is in your own engine. The two part of the game of steering the ship and shooting towers are cool features but in my opinion they don't go well together at least not for a one player game. It was hard to get a felling of when the canons were useful cause I don't fell like shooting down all tower and just rushing it and trying to avoid the towers with steering was my way of trying to complete the levels

Drop It ! by Platore 2023-05-04T22:16:33Z

Fun concept and the art and music were nice. I did not understand the controls for moving the camera rotation on A and E, forward with Z and backward with S, Q left, D right. It might be different keyboard layouts idk. It was also hard to see were the box would drop. Meybe a marker would be nice. I don't know how much effect the boxes had but I like the conecpt of not having a predefined win condition. Just playing in favor of my favorit players. More characteristics for each player would have been cool cause they all give the same feeling now but with more difference in style I could more easily pick my favorits att keep to them.

LittleOV by ski11az 2023-05-02T17:15:28Z

Cool game, very unique. I had a good time playing it. I especially liked managing coordinated swings with the grappler. Well done!

Time Delivery by Ron88 2023-05-01T22:21:34Z

Over all a fine game. Quirky story and nice gameboy styled graphis. Does not seem to be bug free but that is how gamejam games are. Seems like a cool challenge to use GB studio.

LD54 — Limited Space

Alien Abduction Adventures and Astral Anomalies Abound by Flaterectomy 2023-10-15T15:50:58Z

Text based games are generally not my cup of tea but this one held me occupied a good while. I loved abducting aliens. Just filling my cargo to the brim and selling them all for some dough. Only to use it to get a better ship to be able to abduct more aliens. It is so evil and I love it. I think I was close to getting caught by the police just to have the space whales(wonder if you got the inspiration from the purrgils from Star Wars) interfere. I managed to get an ending using the advanced anomaly detector. Honestly I can not really give you any constructive feedback as I neither play textbased games in general nor do I design them. However I had a good time with this one. Good job!

Limited Seats by squirrelsoft 2023-10-16T16:23:53Z

Cool game. Calm music for beeing so stressful. Feels like it went from 10% to 100% on the two first levels. Good job!

Cavin' by Daxtear 2023-10-15T15:13:00Z

Fun game. Interesting take on walljump and kind of satisfying. Besides that the player controller was fine for a jam game, the jumps were a bit frustrating at times. Cayote time and mer finetuning would have been nice. But it is understandable that you don't have time for it on a jam. The characters were interesting and unique and the music was bopping, kind of reminded me of old megaman. Not the most creative take on the theme(the theme was kind of hard). But over all a nice game! I enjoyed it! Good job!

Obelisk by Untitled Studios 2023-10-15T16:36:54Z

Nice game! On my first run I got to tier 5. I did not like that you could not turn around on the spot but I would guess that you designed it that way and thats fine. Besides that the music was nice and moody, good sound effects, and nice pixle art and splat effects. Greate game! Good job!

Pandamonium 5000 by ComicSans 2023-10-16T16:54:58Z

Good use of assets and you managed to do many levels. It was quite comical to se all the pandas run. Good game! Good job!

Hole in the Well by DecadeDecaf 2023-10-15T19:13:29Z

Cool unique game. Good humor, nice voicelines. Good job! Btw Harry Humlbeton can go club a seal

Entities onboard by Madasski 2023-10-16T16:40:53Z

Damn those ailens Naruto ran at me. But I managed to escape in the end. Nice game, nice visual and good sound design. Good job!

Mad Dash Moving Inc. by Lone_Wolf 2023-10-15T20:07:20Z

Well executed tetris like game. Good audio and graphics. I had a good time playing it. Good job!

Euclid's Manor by DarkWolf 2023-10-15T19:40:38Z

Very cool and trippy. Well executed non euclidean space game. I had a good time discovering the manor. Good game! Good job!

On the bottom side by Jasuse 2023-10-15T16:09:23Z

This was an interesting take on the theme. The game was quite hard but fun. The two things I would like to mention is that the screen shake was abit over the top and it felt like the physics on the blocks stopped working when they hit each other but still was not in a resting position. Except for that I liked the game. Good job!

Slime Jumper by strailks 2023-10-17T14:49:34Z

Cool character, the wall thing felt surprisingly natural and you managed to create a lot of levels with pretty natural progression in difficulty. Many jam games either are to underestimates the player and makes it too easy and some uses their best idees and it becomes to hard too early. But I think you managed it well. Maybe a bit repetitive music but it was better than silence. Great game! Good job!

Rising Tides by Pierre Baudoin 2023-10-15T17:04:26Z

In the beginning it felt like much to manage and have in mind but ended att 99% on my first run and my second run I completed it. It was a bit easy to click on the wrong tile maybe a more overhead camera would fix that. I however enjoyed the game. Good sound effects and music, and nice graphic design. You also follow the theme in a good way. As a main Godot dev I hope you enyojed you experience with the engine. I would guess that you have used Unity until now. In conclusion greate game! Good job!

Hardcore Packing Simulator by GoldyXEN 2023-10-16T16:16:11Z

Cool game but pretty hard. The art style was cool it felt like you had drawn everything in higher resolution and the downscaled it. However this made it hard to know where exactly I was clicking. On several occasions I grabbed the wrong item. The items also kind of melted in to the background. It was hard to know which things was of significance and moveable. Otherwise the music was good and overall I liked the game. Good job! Cool that you use monogame, I used it in the beginning of my game dev journey but switched to Godot both because of comfortability of using an engine and because I started developing together with a friend who thought Godot would be a good engine.

Space Stitcher by kaliuresis 2023-10-16T00:20:36Z

I don't like this game because it makes me feel smooth brain. No but for real cool game. I thought I had an acid trip on level three. But in the end I managed to beat it. Because it is a gamejam game it is understandable that you put you best idΓ©es as levels. I have not looked in to the post-jam version but if you would make a commercial version you would like to make levels that eases players into the game mechanics. Right now it was quite hard to understand what all the stuff did. But it was possible to figure out if you are willing to lose brain cells over it. The courses shown in the gamejam version would be later courses, most of them. Maybe the first level of the gamejam version could be like level one or maybe even level three in a commercial version. The other two would need to occure at least 10 levels into the game. You might want to think about it as I can see this being a commercial game if it gets more polish, more levels and maybe some more mechanics. In conclusion great game! Good job!

TurtleTD by RubyDaPrincess 2023-10-15T17:35:09Z

Nice first gamejam game especially because you work alone. I see that you have opted out of art but still try to avoid copying assest from other games. I am mainly thinking about the pokemon egg. It is explained here https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/rules. I am sure there is a free asset pack you could use that have eggs in it or maybe try drawing one. It does not have to be pretty. Continue attending gamejams and you will evolve as a game maker and learn alot. Good game! Good job!

The Lost Probe by KotgeDev 2023-10-15T19:34:37Z

Interesting game. It was pretty hard. I think it would have been more natural to have the back thruster(move forward) activated by w, the down thruster(move up) by a, and the up thruster(move down) by d. I feels like more natural thinking regardless of the probes rotation. Other than that good game! Good job!
