A fun little game. I really liked the graphics. It really could have used some sound and music! Great job!
Really nice game very polished, one thing I'd love to see is if the shooting controls were controlled with a mouse and clicks. Would love to see a wave defender mode in a future iteration. Great job!
Sweet game, liked the concept and well executed! The pixel art and animations are also very nice.
I really liked this game. Everything from the gameplay to the art is very well done. However, I kept running out of O2. I assume that you are supposed to kill the big alien mouths and then seal the rooms afterwards to prevent the O2 from being vented out?
@rmrvar nice to hear that you like our game. Hullbreaches drain O2 and sealing with the the nano foamsprayer makes them go away. You can change to the nano foamsprayer at weapon racks. Sealing the rooms to prevent O2 draining would have been a nice feature actually. Hullbreaches can randomly appear, are created when enemy spawner are killed and they are marked with a black pixel on the map.
😝
I like this game, it is a bit hard for me, but that is because I suck at these kind of games, still I had a good impression! And I would like to give you a big compliment on your first Ludum Dare game! It is really polished and thought through. Even an in-game helpsection!
I think this game would benefit a lot if it had sound. I even downloaded the Windows executable to check if my browser somehow messed up. For the next LD (you are going to participate again right?) you could use a simple generator like this one: https://www.bfxr.net/ It adds so much!
Also, small thing: When I was in the menu, I was expecting the Enter key to work, but spacebar was my second try and that worked so it is not really a problem :-)
@wouter52 I am happy you like it. This is for me I think my most finnished game so I dont have much practice balancing games. Though this one I dont want to be too easy. As developers we kind how things work as an unfair advantage and it is hard to see the game from a player perspective when it comes to difficulty.
Sound is an area that the game lacks. None of us have much practive in sound design so it was low priority. I thought about it at the end and tried making some soundtracks but did not come up with something I liked or something that didnt feel repetitive and a sountrack that people wants to turn off is worse than none in my opinion. Thanks for the tip about bfxr, I will look in to it.
About the Enter key. It is something I have had as an afterthought and is a natural way of traversing menues. Something I will try to have in my mind in my next project.
😝
Nice game and I liked the idea of having to fix your ship! It really lacked sound, even some simple sound effects could've made the game feel a lot better - (like someone else mentioned there are a lot of simple sound effect generators as well) - but aside from that and especially for your first Ludum Dare it's really good! The art was well made and the minimap is really helpful and implemented well too. With some slight polish I think this could be a really good game, good job :)
Fun game to play, but not really balanced. Graphics looks fine and idea with killing enemies and then fixing up your ship is good. Problems arise with balancing of everything, I couldn't get more than 2-3 minutes of playtime, because enemies were spawning way too quickly and causing damage to my ship. I was unable to run from one side to the other and keep ship not damaged and oxygen level intact. Some balancing so playthrough would last much longer would be fine fix for the game overall. Suggestions for potential future improvements: - Add some kind of tech upgrade, maybe better weapons, faster fixing, more durability for ship, better oxygen holding capabilities - let enemies evolve slowly over time (firstly enemies are much weaker, causing a lot less damage) - experiment with adding some kind of cooperative mode, local or network multiplayer would be fine addition for this game.
Good game!
Reminds me a lot of We Need to Go Deeper. I'd imagine this could be very fun in multiplayer as well.
I like how you could easily expand this game with more alien types, more weapons, more jobs to do. (eg.: mop up the acidic alien blood which causes hull breaches when left on the floor)
It's a solid base and thereby perfect for a jam game. I would love to see a post ld version of this.
Nice pixel art!
@minus Im happy you liked it
ye balancing is kind of hard there are alot of factors to take in account for this game. We did it abit last minute too. If we continue on the game we should try to balance it better and let other people than us playtest to find a good balance.
I also think it is abit hard. A tip from the dev if you think it is har is to focus less on the ones attacking you and more on the spawners because they are the ones actually making the hull damage. Something that maybe should have been explained.
I might be wrong but I believe that with the features currently in the game it would not be fun in rounds of much longer than what it currently is. I believe that abit more than 3 min is the time you need to keep the ship intact.
Nice list of improvement suggestions. I think our main idea have been to make more kinds of hazards and balancing it with more weapon slots for the character instead of character/ship upgrades but upgrades might be interesting too.
I have not thought about multiplayer for the game but it sounds interesting and fun to try to implement. Absolutely something I would try to implement if I continue on the game.
😝
Godot user o/ ! I couldn't find the keys to play, so I can't open the door :|. But's it's look promising :)
@reispfannenfresser thank you. We Need to Go Deeper is not at game I am familiar with.
Multiplayer sound like a good idea when you say it.
I have realized that the game is quite expandable. Fun concept of a hazard. Something I might take into concideration if I continue on the game.
😝
I am happy many people like the game and that people see potential for it to be more than what it is now. It gives me motivation to maybe expand on it, I can speak for @golahirom (the art master) though he might or might not. If I continue I will firstly need to refactor alot, rapid development leads to large technical debt and expanding on the code as it is would not be nice. Though if I do I hope some of you will try potentially upcoming versions of the game.
😝
At first I didn't understand exactly how to play, I think you should update the description with a little more info on that(even though the help menu is quite detailed), but once I got it it was a fun experience. I loved the ship map and design, nicely done and has a ton of potential!
@theludovyc i am sorry you did not find the keys. There is a help section that describes how to play including keys. But it is W A S D to move and arrow keys to shoot and spacebar to interact with objects like controlpanels that open doors
😝
@silverlybee thanks for the feedback if we continue on the game we will introduce mechanics and how to play in a better way. The best way would be through gameplay but it is a issue for me to potentialy adress in the future.
😝
Well done! Pixelart is really cool. I love it. And a lot of animations. I like that you have monsters and ship design combined so I fell like you have some storrytelling by textures. It is really cool and atmosphere. But absence of audio is much sad(( I think next time you should add at least music for your game - it will be much more cool! :) And maybe you shouldn't make so big tutorial screens. So maybe do simplier controlling, or do action tutorial. But still great, I love it!)
Nice short entry. Died my first round because i didnt realize that the arrow keys controlled the shooting. Nice little game but i only ever had to deal with enemies once, all the rest was just walking around the ship repairing holes.
I enjoyed how straightforward the gameplay was to get into. The minimap was really useful and easy to understand, too - I only wish the colour of the enemy spawns was a little bit easier to see. I also felt like the doors could've had a little bit more impact - I think there was only one time when I left a door shut on an enemy spawner in order to focus on a hull breach first.
Great entry!
