LD50 — Delay the inevitable

The Egg Will Die by Patomkin 2022-04-05T23:01:59Z

A short but unique game! At first it was a bit confusing, it would've been nice to have the controls screen visible later as well and maybe have slightly more of an explanation of how everything works. The UI in the main menu was also a bit small. Aside from that, the graphics and animations were really well made and looked good, and the mechanic is pretty original and fun! Good job :)

Down to the Wire by Mieeh 2022-04-05T23:36:11Z

Really well made puzzle game! I think I got to around stage 20 somewhere. Any time a new concept was introduced it was intuitive enough to be able to expand upon each stage after that making it slightly more difficult. It was really well balanced, the gameplay flow was really good! The puzzles were balanced well, they were hard enough that when you finally get them it feels really rewarding, without being too frustrating. The minimalistic style fit it well. The sfx and music helped add to the pressure, great job! c:

Anya's Valley by nardandas 2022-04-07T16:12:44Z

Really original idea! The first time around I was a bit unsure of what to do but eventually I noticed you could block the machines by putting stuff in front of it. There also wasn't really and ending/failstate so I wasn't sure if I had to restart or not. The second time I realized you had to try to actually save the animals, but I couldn't figure out how to actually get them to move away from where they were. As far as I know I completed their tasks but I couldn't really do anything after that. Aside from that, the art and sound was really good and I think the idea is very interesting. Maybe with some more guidance/tutorial it could be a lot clearer what you have to do. Overall a really good idea, with a little polish I think it'd be very fun to play :)

Oh No, Earth! by JudgeZedd 2022-04-06T19:12:12Z

Simple but fun game idea! I got to 8370. After a while it got a bit repetitive but having to avoid shooting the ISS added some extra challenge which was good. The narration was really funny too. The controls are sometimes a bit hard to aim precisely but that adds to the challenge, and it felt pretty intuitive to play. After a while I figured out you could hold down space to keep shooting which helped a lot. Good job :)

Pretty cool game! I didn't get how some things worked at first but I still liked it, good job c:

That was so much better than I expected for such a short 72h time period, it felt super polished and really fun to play. Very meta, I think that's what we've all been doing here haha, really good game, great job! :D

@drjedd Thank you for playing and reviewing our game and thanks for the feedback! :D

Rocket Lawnchair by jitspoe 2022-04-10T11:34:11Z

Simple but funny game! Reminds me of games like Happy Wheels and QWOP. It was a bit hard to control but fun. For some reason using keyboard couldn't activate all thrusters at the same time. The main menu UI was a bit unreadable, I didn't notice the sliders at first, and going to the escape menu and clicking play doesn't reset the player. Overall a pretty nice game! Good job

Tragedy on Tattle Row by Cievers 2022-04-07T00:24:04Z

That was a really funny idea! The first time I played through it I didn't understand what I had to do but when I figured it out it was really fun. The simple gameplay helps make it intuitive and easy to play and understand, but after a while it got a bit repetitive. After my second playthrough I realized that the amount of people rescued was determined by how long you kept it up, something like that could've maybe been nice to see in the game as well since it didn't really seem like there was much of a goal to staying alive longer, and maybe also some more challenge to make it a bit more difficult. I really liked how you incorporated the controls, credits and score into the messages you receive, it added a lot to the game. Overall it was a simple but really fun game, good job :)

Fire Hazard by Fupi 2022-04-05T21:56:45Z

really fun game, nice idea! The tutorial helped explain it well and it was nice to see extra icons of the enemies on the turrets, so it doesn't just rely on color which helps for colorblind people as well! It was balanced well and the dialogue was funny, overall a pretty solid game :)

Simple but really humorous game, original idea!

Last Stand by Diannara 2022-04-06T19:44:27Z

I really liked the graphics, the game felt pretty polished and all the models and effects looked good! The sfx and music were also well made and added to the experience. The different animations added more weight/feel to the weapon. It was pretty simple but that helped keep it pretty intuitive. Overall a pretty decent game :)

We Need To Talk by Doot 2022-04-06T17:04:09Z

Super cute idea and loved the whole story and ending, it was really cute and the graphics are really well made. It was a bit easy but I still really enjoyed playing it. The gameplay was really intuitive and it fits the theme very well, great job! :D

Carpe Diem by Pomo 2022-04-11T23:09:05Z

Really cool entry! The music was really amazing and really added to the atmosphere a lot, very well made, although it would've been nice to have more levels with different music and something separate for the main menu so it's less repetitive. The graphics were simple but fit it really well, and the post processing helped add onto the mood properly too. The gameplay was overall really nice and kept me replaying it for a long time trying to get further, but I also had some issues with it. The tiles can overlap which send you flying into the air and often make you lose, which feels really unfair. The randomization each time you restart made it less repetitive but it sometimes also led to some situations where it was a lot harder to make it. The mouse to look option was mostly making it more confusing, and it wouldn't reset the camera position unless you restarted the game. I had some problems with the UI as well, the main menu was a bit confusing and in-game the jump bars sometimes didn't really seem to work correctly. The movement was sometimes a bit slow, which did make it feel a lot smoother but sometimes it did make it harder to correct for issues or to land a jump. The theme and story sometimes felt a bit tacked on or like it didn't really fit it. It would've also been nice to have some more levels with a slower difficulty curve so you can get the hang of the controls slowly.

Still, for such a short time frame this is a really good game, with some slight more refinement I could see myself playing this a lot haha, great job, really cool idea and was fun to play :D

Campfire by Shadowcast 2022-04-06T22:23:11Z

This was such a sweet and touching experience, the story is very well written and emotional and I like how you showed why talking about stuff like this is important. The graphics were also really pretty, I liked the pixelated 3D shader you used for this, it adds a lot of style to it and it fits it very well. The audio was simple but good, it makes you focus mostly on the experience without distractions. Great mood and writing, overall a really lovely and touching experience, thank you for making it!

REWOB by alanxoc3 2022-04-09T22:37:54Z

Got here from the Aarimous stream, really nice game! I liked how you incorporated the gameplay into the level select menu. The graphics and music were also really well done! The animation on the sprites makes it feel a lot more alive, the feedback you get when things happen in the game is good, and the music and sound effects are also really well made. It was really hard though, I couldn't protect any of the planets, but still really fun to play and overall a really solid game! Good job :)

Stone Sabbath by Caladrius 2022-04-05T22:28:53Z

In a lot of ways this game felt very polished, the music and sfx were really well made, the art style is really original and looked good, the story was sometimes a bit vague but interesting. I liked how you moved between screens in the main menu, and the texts on the main menu buttons were really funny and original, replacing a standard "Quit" button with "I refuse", etc.

I did have a couple issues though, the text in the "Why am I here?" screen was hard to read since it was very pixelated and the respawn campfires didn't seem to work. I also didn't really know what to do sometimes, and after the sudden "The sabbath always comes" screen everything went black and I couldn't play.

Overall I think with some changes to the gameplay I think it could be a really good game, even though I had some issues with the gameplay it was still nice to play and for such a short time period it feels like a pretty polished experience! Good job :)

Stone Sabbath by Caladrius 2022-04-05T23:47:45Z

@caladrius I'll try playing it again when it's updated!

Stone Sabbath by Caladrius 2022-04-07T00:12:54Z

@caladrius Hey! I just played through it again, it was definitely improved a lot! I enjoyed playing it a lot more and it's still a really cool game.

- The main menu UI is now much more readable - Combat was changed well, last time I was mostly trying to avoid any combat by hiding behind trees since it was pretty hard and didn't really have a reward/reason for it, it definitely felt a lot better now - The animations on praying to the moon shrine indicating the time change was also really nice, made it a lot clearer on what it does - The ending cutscene replacing the standard fail one was also really nice - I got a lot further into the game this time, last time I only got to the boss fight by walking around the fences at the second moon shrine (there was a fence blocking it but you could still move around it) - The gate in the beginning wasn't open from the start anymore - The campfire spawnpoints work well

Some issues I still had: - The WebGL game resolution was really low, the Windows download was fine - Walking around the fence at the second moon shrine is now fixed, but instead you get stuck there and I had to restart - The combat is definitely better, but it was a bit easy sometimes because you can kill the easier enemies before their attack animation kicks in - It was a bit unclear what the timeframe was, how long I had until the sabbath would come - Turning time back with the moon shrines didn't seem to affect how long I had - It was also sometimes a bit unclear where I had to go, it took me a while to find the church/market area - The ending UI was also too pixelated to read - The text that appears after defeating the boss was under the boss' healthbar, so I couldn't read what it said - Windows download was called "SoneSabbath" instead of "StoneSabbath"

Some of these are really small isues and aren't that important, it was still really fun to play! I didn't end up finding out how to win but either way it was still very well made, thanks for making it! :)

Stone Sabbath by Caladrius 2022-04-07T00:26:49Z

@caladrius No problem! It was really fun to play so thank you for the game :D

FreeFall by aaron1_cabj 2022-04-06T19:54:33Z

Really cute game, I got to 169. The art was really cute and well made. The music was also really good and added to the atmosphere a lot. Sometimes the debris felt a bit too fast to dodge but it was still really fun to play! It's simple but that made it really intuitive and easy to play. Overall a great game, good job!

The Final Word: A Microsoft Word Platform Game by leekanarchism 2022-04-06T19:29:18Z

Really funny concept, it was really difficult but fun. I think clippy will be haunting my dreams for now haha

Immune System "Engineer" - Can you Delay the Inevitable Skin Breach? by Aarimous 2022-04-09T23:07:55Z

Hey, got here from your stream! Really simple but nice game. As a colorblind person it's nice to see you added extra shapes to help differentiate the different colors as well. The rounding of the shapes made them slightly less obvious but it's still really useful. It felt really polished and the feedback on completing and spawning a cell is really nice. I sometimes had some trouble seeing if a node was connected already or not (mainly the green ones) - might either be a bug or something with color blindness as well? The pacing was nice, it was nice to start with just a couple nodes so you can slowly learn how to play, although this might get repetitive when you're replaying it. The changes you made in the newer patches also definitely help make it less of a stressful accuracy game and more of a simple relaxing game which I think is a lot better. Overall a really solid entry with a good amount of polish, good job! :D

Healer's Handbook by javi7 2022-04-14T18:34:18Z

Really nice game! Felt really polished and the gameplay, graphics and audio were all great. It was a bit difficult at first but after a while I knew most of the patterns and got 4/5 books on the second playthrough. At first I didn't really know how the mana and strength stuff worked but I figured it out pretty quickly. Really good entry, good job c:

The Alchemist by Khill 2022-04-05T01:55:16Z

It was a bit confusing at first, but the idea is really interesting. The graphics and music were really well made too! Great job :)

Lighthouse (Unreleased) by AdamPhoebe 2022-04-09T23:48:00Z

Would've liked to try it, but as others have said the itch.io page is unavailable. Let me know if you end up changing it!

Warrior's way by Remn 2022-04-14T17:09:32Z

A really nice concept! I had some issues with the controls but I think with some more polish it could make for a pretty good game. Often times my block wouldn't work consistently (sometimes I could hold it down, other times it would just work for a second or so), spamming buttons would sometimes stack moves, the animations can sometimes take a little long which makes it harder to respond quickly and the camera animation was a bit too intense which made it hard to see what was going on. Maybe it could work better in third person or with smoother animations? I also didn't notice the healthbar at first and it'd be nice to have some settings to control audio for example.

I really liked having to think about blocking or dodging though, makes for some good gameplay and the graphics were also really well done! For such a short timeframe you made a pretty nice game, with a little more polish I could see it being a really solid game. Good job! :D

We Can Bounce Back by ChaosComposer 2022-04-06T00:43:57Z

Really nice story, it was really nice to play! I had a couple issues with the balls sometimes going in a different direction than I sent them to, it was sometimes also a bit vague whether you could bounce off of the edge of the screen or not. Aside from that it was a really nice game, I liked how you combined the story with the gameplay well and the effects when you hit your ball on something are really nice too C:

Lockdown by Squerf 2022-04-05T13:40:03Z

A pretty simple but enjoyable game, I lasted 03:11 mins, good job for it being made in such a short time! :)

Abandon Ship by SpaceyLake 2022-04-06T23:01:25Z

Nice game and I liked the idea of having to fix your ship! It really lacked sound, even some simple sound effects could've made the game feel a lot better - (like someone else mentioned there are a lot of simple sound effect generators as well) - but aside from that and especially for your first Ludum Dare it's really good! The art was well made and the minimap is really helpful and implemented well too. With some slight polish I think this could be a really good game, good job :)

Fear the Repo by BloodyEdward 2022-04-07T15:34:09Z

I think this game definitely had a pretty good concept, but there were a lot of bugs and gameplay issues. With some more time I could see this being pretty enjoyable! Still a good job on trying something like this in such a short time.

Corgi, Protecc! by JuulH 2022-04-08T22:56:12Z

@nardandas you actually can! it might've been a little vague on the first gun since the fire rate is a lot lower on the pistol, but each subsequent weapon upgrade will make the intervals between it smaller. We should probably have made it a little clearer though! Thank you for the feedback :D

Corgi, Protecc! by JuulH 2022-04-08T23:02:11Z

@renge Thank you! We thought it'd be funny to subvert people's expectations by making it look like just a cute corgi game instead of what it actually is, which we also incorporated into the switch between the cute main theme and menu to the intense gameplay and game music. Thanks for your feedback!

Out of Controls? by Bumble 2022-04-06T22:49:26Z

Really interesting idea, I liked how you constantly had to focus on both your ship and the controls. After a bit it becomes really hard though, since when you lose controls you can't move and there's lots of enemies on the screen at that point, which only makes you lose more controls and fail quickly. The idea was really nice but I think it would've been nice to either not lose controls as permanently or have an easier way to get them back since now it was pretty hard to survive more than 30s or so. Good job though, it was fun to play!

Loop Line by sourcehorse 2022-04-05T02:11:32Z

Pretty original idea, the sound effects made for a good atmosphere. Nice job c:

Snailatouille by PeytonBrown 2022-04-05T02:15:21Z

that was a weird but really funny game, it was sometimes a bit hard to control but it was fun to play
