LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Save Gogo by MAT4DOR 2022-04-04T15:36:33Z

This is cool! So if I understand correctly this is like a crowdsourced Tamogatchi, right? That's actually an awesome idea. This would make a great Twitter or Twitch bot. The format makes it hard to use the jam criteria to rate or compare to other games but I really like this idea. Well done!

Save Gogo by MAT4DOR 2022-04-04T17:21:20Z

Gogo is our new most precious resource and he must be protected. Capture.PNG

Save Gogo by MAT4DOR 2022-04-07T18:02:06Z

@mat4dor I've never made a Twitter bot before so I'm not sure logistically but maybe people comment a feed command on the bot's posts to feed it. That way you can have different commands if you want and you can grab the username of the commenter to check whether or not enough time has passed for them to be able to feed Gogo. Then people are incentivized to share or retweet Gogo's posts because they need to bring new people in to keep him alive.

Gaia by kuro 2022-04-04T15:17:11Z

This looks great! I find it's difficult to tell how my WASD input actually affects the status bars. To me it seemed like they sort of just did their own thing which kind of made me feel like I was watching a cute animation instead of playing a game. Maybe attaching a number to the status symbols or swapping the sprites for bars would make it easier to track. I think this is a great execution on the theme and your art is really cute. Nice job!

TyPing Pong by Gao Ming 2022-04-04T13:31:36Z

This is excellent. The core idea is so smart and using the typing mechanic to tell a story and then put the player in the same position as a game dev who can't stop polishing is just brilliant. Wonderful work. This is a real piece of art.

Life's the Wurst by jimmothysanchez 2022-04-04T13:41:17Z

This is super funny. I also found it a bit too easy to stay alive. There are some camera clipping issues and the CPU usage is REALLY high considering the size of the game. Your 3d models are excellent and the game world looks great and cartoony. Good job!

PLOUF! by mlho7 2022-04-04T22:35:43Z

This really blew me away. The art style is so unique. The game itself is so simple but it doesn't matter because it's just really nice to look at and listen to. It's kinda just a nice place to go hang out for a few minutes. Thanks for making this!

Udder Chaos by lekiy 2022-04-04T15:23:48Z

Nice job! I think you could get away with cranking up most of your variable values. Relative to the size of the play area the movement speed for everything is on the slow side and the spawn rate of hay is low, though because energy also depletes so slowly the hay doesn't really feel that important. One simple change that would probably make the game instantly more fun would be to make the arena smaller. Your art is cute. I love the cows and the moo sound effect. Your dev log updates in the comments are pretty funny as well. Congratulations!

Onslaught by mutuware 2022-04-04T16:57:47Z

Great job finishing your game! I feel like this would've worked better if instead of Martians constantly spawning on all 5 astronauts, having them randomly spawn but move faster, making it more of a reflex game. The way it is now the play is the same every time. You mash every button as fast as you can until the Martians overrun you. There's not really a way to get better. Okay, that's the critique done. I liked the music! Did you write it yourself?

ghostlet by PaperAeroplane555 2022-04-04T12:06:26Z

This is really fun! My favorite jam game so far, well done. I think the death ghost mechanic has real potential. It isn't obvious immediately that you don't switch out of ghost mode while inside walls which meant I almost quit on the third level because I was confused but after that clicked I really got into it. The hyper minimal style works great for this idea. The theme use is a little weak here but who cares, right? Great job, honestly.

NumberCatch by jesusnoseq 2022-04-04T17:13:07Z

I couldn't work out if there's a strategy I should've been employing. I'm impressed by the scoreboard implementation though it hasn't seemed to update for me. The theme usage seems pretty soft. I like the music and the design of the update feed. Good job!

Farming until bankruptcy by atomicptr 2022-04-04T13:23:51Z

The idea of a Rogue-style farming game is really interesting. I found this pretty addicting considering the limited options. It kind of seems like there's not much point upgrading the field much since the crops grow in the time it would take to plant in all the spaces anyway. Nice art style and execution. This is fun. Great job!

Under Siege by lcrabbit 2022-04-04T16:39:54Z

This is great! I liked it so much I couldn't stop playing until it eventually crashed on me. The difficulty curve was a little wild. I felt like I was totally overpowered and then got swept a few times. Really nice simplification of the resource/unit based defense game. It looks really polished as well. Time to check out CMDungeon!

Gummy Fear by EasyLuckyGem 2022-04-04T19:26:36Z

Very cute! I like the art style. Is the sound effect when a bear gets grabbed a cat meowing?

LightQuest by Tempii 2022-04-04T12:48:06Z

I'm also getting a "404: Not found" error from itch.

Suicide Prevention Hotline by drkylec 2022-04-04T17:04:16Z

Oh man that was heavy. I hope you don't believe that suicide is inevitable. Maybe I misread the theme there. It's tough to rate something like this because I feel like it's more of a message than anything else. On a technical level it would be nice to be able to click again to go to the next line of dialogue. Since there are no graphics apart from the phone you may as well make the text larger too since the core "gameplay" is reading text. The scenarios felt very believable. I think you're a good writer. Thanks for sharing this!

Dead Weight by jsloth 2022-04-04T18:29:02Z

Awesome atmosphere. It's like Doom meets Spleef. I've never seen this mechanic before but I think it's a great idea. The game really builds that sense of dread from visuals to audio to gameplay. Great work!

Parachute by JulienLussiez 2022-04-04T16:19:27Z

This feels very relaxing. One day I'll figure out what the b word is! Great job.

Fool's Gold by CharlesSchar 2022-04-04T04:02:50Z

Great job finishing your game! Your transition effect looks great and I think the idea of placing grenades to boost the boulder up makes for interesting puzzle opportunities. I would recommend hosting on itch.io and using that link instead. Itch supports any type of file you upload and that way people won't see your personal email address when downloading your game and Google Drive won't automatically block the initial download attempt with its built in virus scan feature. (For anyone concerned, I downloaded and tested the game myself. It's just a GMS1 game, nothing malicious)

Extremely Exteme Sports by kuviman 2022-04-04T20:09:25Z

I'm so impressed you managed to put together the multiplayer so fast. This was really fun to play on Tobugis' stream with you (I'm LookingForPants). Well done!

Mr.Filton Deluxe by DS Nahogara 2022-04-04T16:47:10Z

I saw your blog post about this one and was excited to try it! 10/10 GOTY. It took me a while to figure out that I had to open the create menu to add drawings. I guess that should've been obvious. Is the drawing placement random or is there a way I can manipulate that? Love the art and style. Mr. Filton is certifiable creepy pasta bait. Well done! 10/10 GOTY

@autogibbon Okay I realize this is a joke but for anyone actually curious about the lyrics it's:

We cannot stay, so fire away to the motherland.

You cannot say that yesterday we had the upper hand.

Retire the gods, we're getting older.

Stay close for warmth, we're getting colder.

@andrey-zhukov I didn't want people to rate it highly in the audio category because of the music since I didn't make the music.

The pawn's gambit by Duck Reaction 2022-04-04T15:01:26Z

I think this is an interesting idea but like the other commenter I wasn't able to actually attack. I read the instructions and saw the gif on the page. It seems like a targeting circle is supposed to appear when I click and hold the left button but this didn't work for me. I tried clicking and holding at different stages and keeping my cursor over the enemy's heart but after about 10 deaths without understanding what I was doing wrong I threw in the towel. It definitely looks stylish and I think the idea of using chess movement to predict enemy positions for an action combat game has real potential. I'd love to see an update on this in the future that makes it a bit easier to understand how to play. Good job completing the jam!

Volcano by ABRDs 2022-04-05T16:37:00Z

Very cute! I really like the island environment you built. It took me a long time to put down because I couldn't bear to see the big guy get upset but inevitably... Great job!

Ballgeon by koro.games 2022-04-04T18:22:50Z

I think you've really got something here. This is a great concept and a good gameplay loop. With some more enemy and ball types I could spend hours on something like this. Really nicely done. I don't really see the connection to the theme but hey, who cares?

Timeflight Alpha by Quinn_Patrick 2022-04-04T17:38:17Z

19,000! This is fun! The tiered upgrades for the gun really give you a power trip when you get to the highest level. I think the timer drops should add a bit more time though overall I think the balance is pretty good for leaving the player with a satisfying time per run. Great job!

Timeflight Alpha by Quinn_Patrick 2022-04-04T18:31:54Z

Thanks for sharing! That makes a lot of sense.

No Touch The Cat by Sheol 2022-04-04T12:47:12Z

This is adorable! You absolutely nailed the difficulty curve too. I was surprised when the gloved hands showed up. That was a good idea! This is a really cute little game with wonderful art and sound. Great job.

Brian Is Burning by zappablamma 2022-04-05T16:06:58Z

This is great! You packed a lot of content for a jam game I'm really impressed. For me the number of buttons was a little hard to juggle on a keyboard but I bet on a controller that wouldn't be an issue. It's genuinely fun. Great work!

Shady Taxi by spacecadet 2022-04-04T16:53:32Z

I'm blown away by the intro animation. Well done! Took me a hot minute to figure out how to tell where I was supposed to drop clients off and I guess I didn't understand how the game connected to the theme or what made the taxi shady but it looks really nice and was fun to play. Well done!

Lava Hop by BarelyEvenGames 2022-04-04T17:29:58Z

Wow, this looks really polished! I took some screenshots because I feel like the logo by itself doesn't really do justice to how good the art and visual style is. This is fun! What's your highscore? One issue is that the menu option cycling is really hard to control. I would switch that so it only ticks up or down once per button press. I also didn't see any way to change the window size which might make it hard for people with smaller displays to play. Great job!

Lava Hop by BarelyEvenGames 2022-04-04T19:00:16Z

Wow that's a crazy high score! And no, I was playing on a keyboard.

I Don't Wanna Reincarnation by crotonyl_alcohol 2022-04-04T13:13:47Z

Absolutely beautiful. I am astounded that you were able to produce and implement so much high quality art in such a short time, especially the intro animation. Incredible. The story was very touching as well. After the jam is over I would consider going back through to fix a few spelling errors but otherwise I honestly have no notes. Really well done!

The Dungeon Lord by Thoastbot 2022-04-04T11:58:58Z

This definitely feels pretty unique. I did find it pretty hard to understand what to do. I felt like I was supposed to treat it like a tower defense and that enemies would follow the path but the enemies just kind of seemed to wander off wherever they wanted to. It wasn't really clear visually what the bats or spike traps did either. It kind of gives me Dwarf Fortress vibes, where its something that most people will bounce off of instantly because the rules are fairly complex and the graphics are very simple but there could be a lot of potential depth for people willing to dig into it. Regardless, it's pretty impressive considering you didn't use an engine or libraries. High scoring for innovation for sure.

speedy student by baily 2022-04-04T13:08:02Z

Okay, first a couple of bugs/issues: I think the timer stops working when you select play again. Why did you choose up and down for the left and right movement? Your jump sound effect plays every frame instead of every time your press jump.

Now, great job finishing the jam! I can definitely relate to forgetting my homework back at the house. I hope you keep making games!

The Arc by Linus Szokody 2022-04-04T12:34:51Z

Very moody! I think you could've done without the minimap entirely. I'm not sure that the mechanic of checking on the minimap for whether an asteroid is green or not is more fun than if the asteroids were actually just green in the overworld. Because the background color is the same it's also a little hard to tell at first that it is a minimap. That said, I think this is a cool twist on classic asteroids and the atmosphere and super minimalist style totally work here. Great job!

Goblona by mrks 2022-04-04T12:28:16Z

Hey, great job! Convenience features like selecting all units with A was a nice touch that I feel like a lot of people would forget about. I was a little unclear whether I was defending a specific position or just trying to keep the total number of enemies down. I think having buildings to protect would've added some strategy. On a tech side there seemed to be some angles where my units could engage but not actually hit each other, creating an infinite loop of sound effects without my unit or the enemy actually dying. I think you could get away with giving players a lot more gold per kill considering the spawn rate of goblins. Pretty fun! Nice work completing the jam.

Race Fighter by redsti 2022-04-04T19:30:45Z

Good job! I think it would be more comfortable to play if the forward button was also mapped to the mouse. Maybe switching the laser from auto shoot to requiring you to click in exchange for increasing the damage would be one way to make it feel more essential to prioritize weapons too. The movement feels good and I like the visual style. Congratulations on submitting!

Inevitoffice by Lako 2022-04-04T03:41:42Z

I know this is a super small thing but I love your logo at the beginning. It looks crispy. I had a bit of a hard time understanding what I was supposed to do in the game. It's a little difficult to move around too because the camera angle is tight and the mouse sensitivity was too high for me. I think it's a neat idea. Delaying getting fired definitely never came up in my brainstorm. Props for the creativity and great job finishing!

Nightwaker by Bottled up Dark Peace 2022-04-05T01:14:09Z

Hey! I remember you from Land of the Unskilled back from the Wowie jam. Nice job! How was it working with a big team? I imagine in some ways it's harder to coordinate with so many people in a short time. I loved the atmosphere in this. What made you decide to use typing as the main mechanic? I think it's interesting though the constant tapping of J and L hurt my fingers and made it hard to concentrate on reading the story lines too. Brilliant art and sound especially. Way to go!

Reckless Reaper by twinkietalks 2022-04-04T12:09:46Z

Congratulations on finishing your first jam! It's a simple game but well executed for what it is. Hope to see you in more jams in the future!

Time's... Up! by Waysneighborgo2 2022-04-04T12:52:03Z

Great job finishing your game! It seems like it would be pretty difficult to actually lose since the coins respawn and the timer is so long relative to the size of the level. Maybe subtracting more time for colliding with enemies could help with that. I also wasn't sure what the wire items did. I liked your choice of sound effects. I hope to see you in more jams in the future!

Crazy Cats by Ladymarengo 2022-04-04T12:42:23Z

This is so cute! The art is absolutely fantastic, great job on that. This game is really hard. I think the time that it takes for the cats to destroy objects is too unforgiving and starting out with two cats right off the bat makes it pretty much impossible. I played for a good while and couldn't get past 8 seconds. That's a pretty easy thing to fix though. With lowered difficulty and some sound effects I think this would be a great and SUPER cute little web game. Catflix! <3

MooshiMooshi by AnonymousPanda 2022-04-04T11:46:03Z

I really like the color shifting grid for the walls. I think you did a good job of not making the game too difficult either, which I know is a temptation when making a climbing game like this. Great job for your first game!

Not Enough Time: The Game by Marianoa213 2022-04-04T03:37:05Z

This is really hard! Zombies was a good idea for the theme. Good job finishing on time!

Blitz : invasion by musaspacecadet 2022-04-04T13:56:49Z

This is a great little space shooter. You've got an awesome base to expand on if you wanted to. The theme implementation was a little weak but it was a tough theme to work with. Great job finishing your game!

Cowboys in a CAVE by gametoilet 2022-04-04T17:08:38Z

I don't see a link to a game here. I like your sketches though.

Ravenous by Frib 2022-04-04T12:20:49Z

Great job! Very dark. Even with lots of mechanics missing it was still kind of addicting to drag people back to grandpa for the ol' blood points. It kind of reminded me of Vampire: The Masquerade. The number of spells you planned was wild! I could see a game with a system like that being really fun with combat implemented.
