Very interesting concept but feels like a mobile app type of thing where I have to set reminders to keep feeding him! sounds like work :( I do really love the concept and I think something like this could easily go viral. Best of luck with it and keep making stuff! Awesome job

daniel-foutz 2022-04-04 15:36

This is cool! So if I understand correctly this is like a crowdsourced Tamogatchi, right? That's actually an awesome idea. This would make a great Twitter or Twitch bot. The format makes it hard to use the jam criteria to rate or compare to other games but I really like this idea. Well done!

baily 2022-04-04 15:39

super cute, decent art but it feels like one of those educational games your teacher lets you play at school.overall good though.pls rate my game

spthiel 2022-04-04 16:10

Haha this is quite similar to what I did just more ingenious, am a cat person tho - sorry :cat:

mat4dor 2022-04-04 17:12

@daniel-foutz yeah almost like that, it will inevitable end though because people can't vote too many times.

@andy-beers It's supposed to be for the long game, and eventually you will not be able to feed him anymore if you have a static IP. I wanted to make it like a crowdsourced survival. I don't know how long it will last, but the hunger bar is to prevent too many hours being added in case it goes viral, so people need to keep coming back to it.

@baily thanks :) that is probably the best art i've done to date, it turned out really good for someone that is not artistic at all

@spthiel oh well, maybe I should have added a cat as well and saw which one would survive the longest. Oh well, missed opportunity

daniel-foutz 2022-04-04 17:21

Gogo is our new most precious resource and he must be protected. Capture.PNG

danc2236 2022-04-04 18:40

Really awesome concept here man! It loosely fits in with the theme, but I think what you have done is really amazing. I really love the design of the doggo. Also, I'm a big fan of dogs so that's a win from me :D

david-york 2022-04-04 18:41

Interesting concept for a game jam for sure. Crowd-sourced tomogachi? There's room for that in this world.

dan-smith 2022-04-04 18:45

Like the concept of everyone caring for the same animal. 'Crowd sourced tamagochi' has a nice ring to it. Difficult to test as an individual, but not the point. Nice one.

jesusnoseq 2022-04-04 18:55

those eyes got me

I didn't expect to see another golang programmer around. Glad to see it

Good job!

baily 2022-04-04 19:07

a b c d e f g ...... gogo is the cutest puppy

mat4dor 2022-04-04 20:34

@danc2236 @david-york @danc2236 @jesusnoseq @baily thank you all for the love :heart:

I think it would be cool to extend this to have groups of people (family and friends) take care of their own pets. Instead of a global one. Introduce other features and remove the death by exhausting of IP addesses/steepness of feeding times.

theslate 2022-04-06 22:10

I'm rooting for you Gogo <3

ramil-dev 2022-04-07 14:10

Very innovative idea! I support @daniel-foutz idea of making it a twitter bot.

sapantaha 2022-04-07 16:52

Very interesting concept! With the theme, I think it feels more morbid than cute. I'm very curious as to what will happen when the bar inevitably runs out.

mat4dor 2022-04-07 17:22

@ramil-dev @daniel-foutz How do you envision it? People tweet to feed him? And he posts regular updates on how much time left? Maybe could even update the description/location on twitter to represent the time left.

daniel-foutz 2022-04-07 18:02

@mat4dor I've never made a Twitter bot before so I'm not sure logistically but maybe people comment a feed command on the bot's posts to feed it. That way you can have different commands if you want and you can grab the username of the commenter to check whether or not enough time has passed for them to be able to feed Gogo. Then people are incentivized to share or retweet Gogo's posts because they need to bring new people in to keep him alive.

mat4dor 2022-04-07 22:26

@sapantaha life ends. haha sorry if this sounds even more morbid :stuck_out_tongue: Thanks for checking out my game. It will be perma death, I don't want to bring back unless in a different format. Memento mori

mat4dor 2022-04-07 22:28

@daniel-foutz I guess that could be easily done, I don't think I will move Gogo over to there though, because this one in limitid by the IPs, so probably the logic and feeding times should be adjusted for Twitter. Thanks for the suggestions!

mrevilguy 2022-04-07 23:52

I will share this game with 2 non ludum darer's because I know they would die if they saw a puppy like this die.

meep 2022-04-08 00:00

Really fun, albeit morbid take on the theme. :P All packed behind a little animated dog. I think it would've added a lot to have it periodically do random things on screen (e.g., dig up a random object, run around, etc.). It'd create some excuse for people to leave it open to catch these little moments, and have more commitment to feeding Gogo. Nevertheless, rooting for Gogo's survival and like others have said, this would be a really cool concept to flesh out post-LD (e.g., a Discord bot that acts as like a community pet, etc.). :D

charred-axolotl 2022-04-08 00:09

This is genuinely a really interesting idea, I'm surprised you're having trouble getting it to take off. My first impulse was to immediately send it to all my friends and get them to feed Gogo. Would love to see this expanded into a bigger project at some point.

mat4dor 2022-04-08 00:31

@mrevilguy thank you  it will for sure help increase his life

@meep yeah there were a couple of other ideas I wanted to implement, like opening the mouth when you have the bone moving near it, but the time constraint is always so I couldn't get to it all. Doing more things in the background is a good idea. Thanks for suggesting that.

@charred-axolotl I thought that it would actually get more people and that people would share with their friends. I got a very big boost initially from sharing with a couple of friends, which managed to make him survive thus far. I think he got like 1 or 2 days to live, max.

I'm considering making this into a thing post LD, but I have to figure out what exactly and how it is displayed in an interesting way to make people enjoy and come back to feed him.

Thanks for extending his life a little further.

renge 2022-04-08 00:57

I did my part! Simple but effective little game.

csdoescs 2022-04-08 01:37

Rated! This is a very interesting approach. It's not so much something you play rather than a group project amongst strangers, or like, a dedication experiment. Super innovative!

cornfab 2022-04-08 01:45

It's morbid but I'm giving you 5*s in humor because the idea of this website being up with a dead cartoon dog on it is hilarious to me. A monument to man's failure

3bt 2022-04-08 01:59

This is an awesome approach to the theme, very creative! Excited to see how this ends, however long gogo survives

payaosito 2022-04-08 03:27

Gave him a snack, let's hope Gogo gets to live a long happy life, no regrets when the inevitable happens! The sound effects caught me off guard though.

mat4dor 2022-04-08 09:30

@renge @csdoescs @cornfab @3bt @payaosito thanks for feeding him and for the nice comments  He lives another day.

fae-pdf 2022-04-09 14:35

I had no plans to, but after finding myself coming back now 4 times to feed gogo, almost despite my intentions to the contrary, I have to say that you did an excellent job. The execution is extremely simple, but you obviously perfectly captured the theme of the jam. There are a bunch of very smart decisions here, though, deceptively so even. The exponential increments, the diminishing returns, the little counters on top, it's all very clever. The "game" is not fun, but it doesn't have to be. This is about death, its inescapability, and delaying the inevitable. Your work is so simple and so effective at what it does, no frills, no fanfare. Just the ticking of the clock. To me, it's more like an interactive art installation or a poem of sorts. A poem about death that we all take part in. Obviously, you used a bit of manipulation and emotional leverage, like, "oh no, this cute pet is going to die if YOU don't feed him!" I'm not necessarily a fan of that, because it feels like a mobile game engagement tactic, and maybe, mechanically, your game didn't need that kind of cheap strategy to be effective? But that's fine, it's par for the course. Great work nonetheless.

games-by-tom 2022-04-09 16:58

Very cute! I do like the concept of collaboratively caring for our new dog.

Very innovative in this combination, nice graphics and sound effects.

Only the inevitable outcome makes me (and probably us all) a bit sad.. after the last person at some point forgets to feed him.

mat4dor 2022-04-09 22:34

@fae-pdf Thanks so much for your comment. I was smiling half through the comment. Even though other people describe it as morbid, which in a way it is a little bit, you are spot on. For me it's about death and its inescapability. The cuteness of the dog is actually accidental. I'm a terrible artist/designer, but the dog turned out great, and as you said maybe even a little emotionally manipulative. All the other choices where very deliberate, the exponential increments makes it harder to feed, and if you don't want to see Gogo die, you have to find other ways to feed him, like sharing with friends or switching to mobile data on your phone. It bring new people in and invests them into feeding more.

A few days ago, I even realized a mechanic that I accidentally built into it, and I'm truly interested to see where this goes next, even though Gogo only has 6 hours left. I'm going to try to bring some other people in to get to a week at least.

Thanks again for you kind comment.

@games-by-tom the inevitability of it all is what makes the journey worth living along the way. You will miss the barks and growls, but you can enjoy them like you can. Thanks for feeding Gogo.

Hahaha I sound really dark

lachlan-james 2022-04-09 22:52

“Gogo will be fine… until he isn’t.” D A R K.

Love this though - very innovative. As above, think it has great potential to get large communities involved.

Edit: I fed Gogo
