Love the minimalist neon aesthetic! Took me a while to get the hang of the controls, the tips in the description helped.

I think the hitboxes on the enemies could be a little more generous. It felt like I made quite a few shots that should've hit but went through the corners of the enemy.

Also some visual feedback when the enemies are hit would be useful. The first time I played it I thought my shots weren't hitting at all, then realised they had HP. Just changing the colour of the enemy for a fraction of a second would probably be enough.

Great game, nice work!

Nice work, really like the controls. Had a minor bug the first time I played where controls didn't work. Not sure if it's because I went straight into the settings menu but after a reload it worked.

redsti 2022-04-04 17:31

@jordwest thx for the feedback! yes, some visual cues to when enemies get hit is a good idea and i probably could have done a proper hitbox, i'll try to be better next time.

redsti 2022-04-04 17:32

@taffaz that might have been because you clicked off of the game in the browser, if you click back on it should work again (i find this happens with all WebGL games)

benjamin-halko 2022-04-04 17:48

I love the art style!

online-play 2022-04-04 19:27

Really i like this :)

loic-blumgi 2022-04-04 19:29

I love super simple games, this one has the Upgrade mechanic that is super interesting. I am wondering if it happens more often I think it would be more engaging. Congrats for releasing it !

daniel-foutz 2022-04-04 19:30

Good job! I think it would be more comfortable to play if the forward button was also mapped to the mouse. Maybe switching the laser from auto shoot to requiring you to click in exchange for increasing the damage would be one way to make it feel more essential to prioritize weapons too. The movement feels good and I like the visual style. Congratulations on submitting!

aarimous 2022-04-04 19:31

Wow, I didn't like it at first because I was so weak.. but then I was surprised with the upgrade system and that made me want to just keep racing around and around as fast as I could to get more DPS. Nice work. Would have been nice to have some indication of health on the enemies so I could know which once to aim at. I really liked that I could turn around and then "kit" enemies. Nice work! Cheers. I had a ton of fun playing this one, felt like I as a child again stumbling upon an amazing internet game.

Pretty cool! I was confused at the beginning and went the wrong way, I think maybe I spawned facing the wrong way? Maybe you could add a one-way wall across the finish line or something. The base speed also felt a little slow, once I got a couple speed upgrades it was much more fun whizzing past enemies. Would love to see this expanded upon in the new Extra format!

wheffle 2022-04-04 19:51

I like the style and the idea, and it's a ton of fun even though it's simple! I think my one suggestion would be to implement something that makes going fast more optimal. I think right now it's most optimal to go slowly and clean out the track when you have a chance, which kinda makes it not a race. Maybe there could be a larger score bonus for completing a lap that diminishes over time? Anyway, just a thought. Great entry, I played it longer than I'd like to admit.

You really can't go wrong with glowing geometric shapes!

I enjoyed how the controls work, after a little bit of practice it's possible to drift around corners which is super satisfying. More types of upgrades would help keep the player a little more evenly matched with the ever-increasing number of enemies, e.g. firing multiple shots in different directions, homing bullets, or splash damage.

I like the art direction! I, too, am a fan of minimalistic graphics! Nicely done!

alec 2022-04-04 21:18

I am definitely not good at this game. It took me a bit to get the hang of the controls because I'm using a touch pad a not a mouse, but it was definitely fun to play! Also, you can never go wrong with the neon and black combo. If you decide to keep improving upon this game in the future, I love @jordwest suggestion of adding health bars for enemies.

bdiaztobarra 2022-04-04 22:57

I liked the game even it was very difficult to me... The controller were difficult to manage at first, but then it was really nice! Love the design by the way! Looks great!

x000000 2022-04-04 23:14

Love the style, but audio's getting annoying pretty fast. The concept overall is pretty good! Keep it up!

@online-play @loic-blumgi @daniel-foutz @aarimous @vgel @wheffle @dan-livings @ideaspersecond @alec @bdiaztobarra @x000000 thank you all so much for the kind words and sugestions! I wasn't planning on doing a post-jam version, but now i'm definetly thinking about it, so if i decide to do it i will definetly tell you about it either here on ldjam or on itch.io (or both).

Cool game

mikoziq 2022-04-05 20:51

Got 1380 on Level 1

Pros:

- Dead easy to play - Clear objective - Enemy variation (static and dynamic) - Multiple interesting buffs - Nicely paced gameplay - Multiple levels - Good controls feel

Cons:

- Wish there was a bullet spread powerup - I wish there was a bit more of... something. But I really can't pinpoint that out

It's essentially a properly scoped microgame with Arcade style. Keep up the good work!

ProTip: Drop in some screenshots of anything on the page here, so people can see a glimpse of your work :)

redsti 2022-04-06 05:57

@mikoziq thanks for the great feedback! I'll definetly put some screenshots up soon. I was actually planing on having bullet spread buff and a couple of other things, but i got lazy :P

iambaangkok 2022-04-07 13:38

Nice and super fun game! I had a blast playing it with my friend.

After the point where I upgraded the damage to one-shot enemies and attack speed to a certain amout the game became too easy.

Also with enough bullet speed upgrade, the collision dies (which understandable).

Maybe you could develop this game further into a sellable product? It's real fun and innovative.

redsti 2022-04-07 14:30

@iambaangkok glad you had fun! I wasn't expecting anyonw to get to a point where the game becomes easier rather than harder, i guess i should have done more testing. I'm definetly thinking about continuing development but i'm not sure if i want to commit to it yet.

kupnu4 2022-04-08 20:36

Found your game in a stream. Looks very retro-styled, which is cool by the way. Had a lot of fun playing it. Cool entry! Wish you all the luck!

redsti 2022-04-09 07:50

@kupnu4 thanks!

schwede 2022-04-20 13:19

Those good old space pilot games! I was a big fan of jetmen revival game. Maybe you know it?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXTioPEQ3-o

You got the right touch with that neon effect. Adding a nice neon jet thruster might become a feature upgrade?
