I liked it a lot and i wasn't expecting the ending so i'm glad i played it completely.
I love your choice to give names to the abductees, and right before we're given the option to crush one of their roommates into a flesh cube. Way to show you're not messing around here. "May your future be bright, random alien I am selling into slavery!"
I think this has a similar problem to your previous game in that the writing doesn't affect the gameplay. When I have to click through four text prompts to warp somewhere, I'm probably not going to stop to read the flavor text sandwiched in the middle. It got to the point where my brain wasn't even deciphering the text anymore; I was just looking for key icons and values on the screen and clicking them when they showed up.
The game felt way too long for how much content there is. I abducted 35 organisms at the end and since about two-thirds of them escaped, that means I probably had to visit over 100 essentially identical planets in the full playthrough. While it is satisfying to sell off a full cargo hull of aliens, I don't think it sustains for long enough.
I think what makes it feel like busywork is that there's rarely ever more than one possible option whenever I'm presented with a choice. If my cargo hold is full, travel to 0-body systems. Otherwise, travel to whichever system has the most bodies. I think the only mechanic that offers real choice is the storage mechanic. If you abduct a creature without enough room for it, you have to weigh the value of your other creatures by their sell cost and health. But you don't make this choice very often since if you have a full cargo hold, you're trying not to travel to systems with life in them.
I feel like there was a missed opportunity to have dialogue with the aliens you abduct. Maybe by the end they convince you to give up your slave-trading lifestyle for good.
Awesome!! One of my favorites so far. Like the ending. Very impressive for a solo entry!
Music set the mood well and it reminded me of some space games I like I should probably get back into.
Good job!
Amazingly done! I don't play many text based game but this one was really well done and I was engaged a lot! It reminded me of FTL: Faster than Light a bit with the management of the craft and people. It feels very broad and it makes me want to explore a lot more!
I dont't like text adventures so much, but I have to tell: this one is impressive!
It is a good text adventure. :)
Interesting idea for story and great music. I think sometimes there is to many text prompts, for example when traveling. There could be more depth and variety to choosing planet and aliens to catch, adding more risk/reward mechanic. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.png
Impressive!
Diving into the vastness of space in "Alien Abduction Adventures and Astral Anomalies Abound" was truly captivating! Flying the UFO and managing abductions felt refreshingly unique. The twist with the whales and the in-depth systems, like jettisoning and compacting abductees, added depth. The solo effort is commendable, especially the music that set an eerie tone. Can't wait to explore more galaxies and discover more anomalies! Stellar work. 🌌🛸
Pretty neat text adventure, however, first time I tried it I was traveling to systems for a while and was finding absolutely nothing, no life, noone to abduct and sell. The rng should be tweaked I think so that the more empty systems you find the more likely it is that the next one is not empty. Eventually I came across life and the game became fun as I was finally abducting and selling people
This was an interesting game. My first playthrough I didn't do that well, but that I was able to plan better for the next playthrough. My only suggestions would be to fill out some the descriptions of what's going on more, and maybe add more random events.
It's become a tradition for me to play your entries each jam, and I must say, this one was a treat! It's very cool that you keep making text based adventure games, and it's impressive to see how diverse they can be.
I really appreciated the moments where nothing seemed to happen for a while; it added a realistic touch to the gameplay and I felt as if I was travelling in space hoping to find life. Then when I found it, it was difficult to capture; needed multiple attempts before catching the first one. Then the first two died terrible deaths stuffed into a small cargo space haha. All of this made it feel like a much bigger accomplishment when I finally managed to sell some aliens and buy my first upgrades.
Even though it's all in text, the website design perfectly complements the theme and enhances the overall experience.
Lastly, I enjoyed the music, it added a lot to the overall feel. Awesome job!
Yeah, it's nice, very clean looking, love the font you chose. The menus get tedious to navigate. was just hoping for a sell all option at one point. Not much else to say, love the title.
Cool little text adventure game. Like the font choice and the writing was pretty good as well! Music got a bit repetitive in the end but overall was a good time!
Interesting take on the theme and hilarious title.
The text is funny and fitting. But I think the pure text based approach makes it hard to plan movement. You need to go to for space stations to sell but you don't have any info beyond the next jump. A node based map(like slay the spire) with fog of war would let you plan your path. I do understand that there wasn't time to implement all that. Just a suggestion in case you want to expand it.
Overall a minimal but very polished game. Great job!
Text based games are generally not my cup of tea but this one held me occupied a good while. I loved abducting aliens. Just filling my cargo to the brim and selling them all for some dough. Only to use it to get a better ship to be able to abduct more aliens. It is so evil and I love it. I think I was close to getting caught by the police just to have the space whales(wonder if you got the inspiration from the purrgils from Star Wars) interfere. I managed to get an ending using the advanced anomaly detector. Honestly I can not really give you any constructive feedback as I neither play textbased games in general nor do I design them. However I had a good time with this one. Good job!
