Cool little game! I managed to beat your highscore - 273!
Extra props for creating an NES game! Would be cool to see the code base :)

@lexi thanks for playing it :) (if you have the Scorecode I'll put you on the leaderboard - it works as a rather basic anti-cheat thing). ~~I guess I can share the source code: https://github.com/wendelscardua/tense-conds (it's kinda messy though)~~ (I didn't think this through đ repository is private for now, I can open it again in the future)
A REAL NES GAME! These are so frickin cool. Had a lot of fun running around trying to avoid all the monsters, really felt like something that I could've played as a kid. The later conds really really god me, cool way to "force" the end of the game.
This is awesome for the legit NES rom. I could see the sprites struggling with one another and everything.
Thanks for submitting your game for me to play on my stream!
If youâd like to rewatch the playthrough, you can find it here: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1608912292?t=6h24m35s
Good luck on your ratings, see you next LD! :D

Hiya! I enjoyed playing this on stream. Thanks for filling in the high score for me! I feel accomplished up there on the leaderboard haha.
This game was really neat! I enjoyed discovering the hidden purposes of all the blocks and optimizing my runs on further attempts. Great job with this one.
Fun! Could see myself getting hooked!
highscore_wendel.png LESSS GOOO I knew I could do it
This was really fun!
I like the fact that you can save the RNG-seeds and modify them at will.
The mechanics felt balanced and adjusted in a way that the game felt fair.
Definitely would consider putting this on a handheld device and use it as a time-killer on long bus/train-trips!

I played three runs and got my highest score on the second time.
Hopefully you trust those are legit tho! Because afterwards I couldn't resist and *just had to* do some poking around on the HEX-editor! :nerd:
hex22.png
I just haphazardly mashed around different bytes that were active and ended up with infinite ice and sword :laughing:
Naturally after that it was time to go turbo!

I think since I went this far to exploit the system, next I should personally challenge myself to achieve that score without cheating!
Don't go holding your breath on that, tho!

PS. Either I'm a bit slow, or then the pun on the game title is pure genius! It took me forever to realize what it was!
T E N S E C O N D S
Absolutely clever!
@dis0rder I didn't expect someone to actually mess with the ram on an emulator đ .
Also, about the pun, you see... the game kinda exists *because* of my pun :) I thought about it first, then tried finding what game I could make around it.
Scorecode: r6pmU50j seed: 0379
Eu acho que Ă© isso. :D
(e obrigado!)
This was really fun! Such a nice idea made really well! Love NES games and can't even think how hard it must be to do them really well! Don't have unlimited abilities so I guess it can be a creative thing! And do this all in 48 hours? That's just crazy! Love it! :)
Real fun! Thank you for stopping by live

That was funny, i liked it. The only thing is that music is little bit annoying for me

I really enjoyed this game, especially when I just ran around turning off all the conds for as long as I could get away with it. Eventually the game spawned a cond that teleported me to a location where I got stuck between 2 conds. I'm glad the teleport had a few charges in it, cause I'm not sure how the rest of that game would have went otherwise. During my play-through, I did encounter a bug where I guess the emulator wasn't able to render anymore sprites? Seemed like you were aware of this though :) Thanks for making this fun game!
tense-conds.png ummm I feel like a dirty cheater... I stayed in the top left corner for a while and then the bottom left corner the rest of the game! Somehow the enemies just happened to avoid me for a while! Love the fact that it's an actual NEW game, super fun. And nice pun, I had to read a comment above to get it haha
tense_conds2.png Hope it's ok that I submit another score :) very fun!
Hey! Thanks for showing us Tense Conds the other night! Here's a video showing our time with it. https://youtu.be/cbu3KZnDqik
Funny and simple. I like it a lot :D
Screenshot 2022-10-06 165043.png @wendel-scardua Second place on the @elysiagriffin seed, it was my first try (on the seed, second on the game)
Nice game with an arcadey feel, always nice to see NES roms in the ludum dare.
Really neat retro game! I did enjoy the strategic aspect of using or disabling certain conds, and keeping track of where things are in the level. Keeps tension quite well!

image is broken :sweat_smile: if you believe me it says score: 338 Scorecode: 0r65k50j Seed: 0224
@rickylee it's ok, I can see the Scorecode is valid:
``` ⯠ruby tools/scorecode.rb 0r65k50j k50j 12079149 0r65 217477 score = 338 seed = 224 ok ```
I played this for you on [stream](https://www.twitch.tv/timbeaudet) and I think I gave good feedback there, if so give a heart, and if not, don't!!
Thank you for the wonderful game on this jam! Stopping the boxes is pretty fun :)
More crazy platform games it seems, was not expecting to see an NES game but apparently I'm gonna have to change my expectations when it comes to Ludum Dare. It's a really fun one though with some interesting references and mechanics to the different conditions/ Also the name is great, especially after I was told the uh, trick to it I guess.
As for the gameplay it's got a interesting setup where you can stall the conditions which is nice AND they can be walls to protect if so. Which I abused like mad. A little too much. But you can also just let them go and try and avoid it, which is interesting especially with some of the modifiers that pop up, the uh, I think "cube" modifier, that essentially made me slide, was definitely a weird one.
Though the only real.,. issue I sort of would have is the fact that you're pretty defenseless for most of the game. There's no like, grab something here to be able to fight or anything like that, it's just. If you get a sword block. Then you will get swords for a bit, and they get auto used sort of like a shield. At least if you're looking at the enemy, I think. I always was looking so I just sort of assume so since it points in front of you.
But maybe adding s0omething that allows you to fight back more, possibly some sort of, acivate a cond early for a weapon etc. could be 9nreresting. That way you're trading the fact that you have to deal with a cond but you get some way to fight it. Which lets you at least deal with it, though you can playa round them normally it's just really luck based. Though that's also due to the limitations I think especially the fact that the mobs can spawn on top of you, unless you're lucky enough for them to miss yo8u forever. (happened to me a lot)
Overall though a really interesting mechanic mix that lets you do some interesting strategies and was surprising to see on NES stuff.
Congrats on finishing this over the weekend! Also, happy to see I wasn't the only one attempting an old console game.
Thanks for submitting your game to stream!
Once again, it's insane that you not only made a game in assembly, but you managed to make a FUN game as well. Super impressive stuff as always, m'dude! :thumbsup:
A really fun little game and obviously incredibly impressive in a technical fashion; making an actual NES game and then using a web emulator for it is such a chad move, that was really great to see. Really awesome job, sorry I couldn't get a better score though đ
Oh man that's crazy! Cudos for such an idea to make a NES game in 3 days and also a good game!
Tried to get higher but gosh is it hard. May try more later!
Good game and a promising implementation of the theme! And it was awesome welcoming you to the stream once again yesterday! Hereâs the VOD if you want to check that out again: https://youtu.be/m7KJvAJLSXE
Enjoyed this! for a simple mechanic, it starts to build in a good way and made for an entertaining session! It was cool to used other peoples seeds so I could try and blame my failures on the seed.. only to see - nope, I was just not very good at it! The delay mechanic didn't feel overly useful, but I can see maybe it coming in handy later in the game with things like the teleporter. I would have liked more positive conditions, the sword was nice but felt the only good thing that ever happened to me!
@lexi source code is available (again) here: https://github.com/wendelscardua/tense-conds
