LD38 — A Small World

Space Colonist's Tiny World by SoKette 2017-05-10T14:45:22Z

I really liked the art style and humor in presentation. The physics were really fun too, I liked getting up to ramming speed and hurtling into the random objects. This game made me smile :D

Ruler of Survival by Flying Cat of the Pepes 2017-05-18T16:52:30Z

Nice game! Very ambitious for a compo game, and I liked the overall feel of the game. I would have really liked for a more succinct tutorial, just teaching controls. I prefer to learn through gameplay and experimentation rather than reading a block of text. I think your game communicated 80% of what needed to be said in that tutorial through the graphics and interface. Great job.

If you have time, I would greatly appreciate a review on my game here:

Dreamers World by applejam 2017-05-18T16:09:36Z

Hey, nice game! I really liked the animations- they seemed really fluid and it looks like a lot of thought went into them. One thing I would have liked is a little more "Game feel" with knockback and more feedback for when I hit an enemy or get hit.

I really liked the overall feel of your game and the intro was nice

Lil' Hunt by KureKureciCZ 2017-05-18T16:04:18Z

NICE! This game brought a smile to my face. I loved the physics and destructible environment. fun little game

The Whole truth about Nature Selection (16+) by pascalman 2017-05-18T14:53:36Z

This game made me smile :) I loved the sound effects and the best part was the sperm giving the thumbs up at the end with its tail. Nice!

Match the Fleas by DaisyChubb 2017-05-19T12:47:53Z

Hey, nice work for your first LD!

It was my first too, so I totally get that there was more that you wanted to do, but couldn't because of the time limit. The awesome thing is that you finished and made a fun little game! I loved the sound effects and mood.

Space Pow Collins by wisstopher 2017-05-18T16:35:34Z

Nice game. I liked the mood, but it was a little tough to figure out what to do until i figured out the first command- once i got that, everything was good.

I liked the inclusion of a checklist at the end to know what I accomplished.

Dinosaur Protection Program by maxartz15 2017-05-18T15:42:25Z

Hey, really liked this game! I enjoyed protecting my dino.

Only downside was that I couldnt tell what the health of my planet was easily- maybe there was some indicator, but I couldnt find it.

My favorite bit was how the little destruction particles got in an orbit around the planet- nice sense of permanence there :)

The Underventure of Polin by manolo_rei 2017-05-18T15:48:18Z

Great job polishing up the audio and visuals. It was a very cute game and the gameplay was deceptively challenging! I echo a lot of the other comments in that I quickly lost motivation due to lack of checkpoints/ having to go through the beginning of the level.

Amazing music!

smallworld by misterstripey 2017-05-18T17:24:24Z

Thanks for the feedback everyone! Yes, I agree- the game is much too hard and could use some more of a gentle difficulty curve. Oh and the non WASD triggers and not using the mouse at all are a really good points- thank you for bringing that to my attention.

Honestly, it was down to the last minute with getting a functional build, so I'm glad it came together at all! Next time I'll leave some time at the end to polish gameplay.

LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Robox! by ted 2017-12-04T15:47:14Z

This game is jaw-droppingly beautiful. I can't believe you achieved such a great aesthetic in only 48 hours with all your crazy family stuff going on. Great job.

Thanks for sharing your game!

Goblin Getaway by notime4games 2017-12-04T18:28:34Z

This game was neat! The mechanics gave it a nice balance and fit the theme extremely well! I was always dropping diamonds to try to get up a big hill. I definitely spent a lot of time trying to figure out the best strategy- and I think that is because you came up with a fantastic mechanic!

One thing that disappointed me a bit was that the game definitely rewarded you for just stocking up a big collection of diamonds at the beginning and then throwing them all out to try to squeeze out a few more points on top of that big chunk. Couldnt get past 170k range, would have really liked it if the high scores were working!

Thanks for sharing this game! Also- nice work on the title art- it definitely grabbed my eye :)

All Day I Dream About Eyeballs by uvwar 2017-12-05T17:46:37Z

Nice work! This is one of the more innovative concepts that I've seen in LD40! I tried my best to play without the bottom screen, but I needed it at the end to think about where the last carrot might be hiding.

I liked the frantic harpsichord music. I'd love to see this game expanded upon!

The Harsh Life of Terry the Homeless Dude by lautregars 2017-12-04T17:59:29Z

Nice game! Definitely made me smile. Great job on your first LD. Don't sweat the game being 'sloppy', to me it seemed purposeful and fit with the out-there aesthetic of the game.

Glutton's Heaven by klekky 2017-12-06T01:22:33Z

This game was so awesome! I was expecting it to only be one level, but was so pleasantly surprised with the second and third! They were really tough in a great way. There were some really spectacular bits of level design in there: blowing up a tnt only to fall into a head of lettuce that kills you! Too funny.

The only nitpicky thing I'd have to say is that the text moves too slowly.

Great job on this. You definitely have a talent for level design and humor :)

Boomstick Leaper by pataya 2017-12-04T19:10:17Z

Awesome game! I really liked it. The feel of it was just right. so awesome to power up your shotgun and use it to move around the arena. Putting the dev score in the bottom was such a smart design move- it kept me playing until I could beat it!

The only complaint I can think of is that you didn't make the music yourself. It makes sense that you opted out of the audio category, but it also influences things like mood/humor/feel of the game, and it's not really fair to other participants who had to spend time composing music themselves.

That being said, I still enjoyed the heck out of this game! Way to go making a game that is complete and feels this good within only 48 hours!

Bugburgh by frankiesmileshow 2017-12-05T18:38:19Z

Love all the cute bugs! Really enjoyed playing this, but still wondering if there is some way to "win"? Also, really wish the protagonist could walk faster, but the game made up for it by having awesome music! I really enjoyed all of the bugs names and the unique buildings they could make.

Awesome work and thanks for sharing this with the world!

Chicken Tender by misterstripey 2017-12-04T18:33:49Z

Thanks for the feedback! No one ever said that keeping animals healthy and happy isn't repetitive/tedious work :P

The characters come in throughout the general arc of the game to keep it lively, but a little sign saying what the next goal is would probably go a long way in terms of making players feel like they are working towards something.

Thanks again everyone!

Chicken Tender by misterstripey 2017-12-05T23:05:54Z

@velvetlobster The dialogue in front of the toolbox was intentional, but I don't know if it was the best design decision. The idea was that the player would have to weigh their options: Should I pay attention to dialogue so I can make a correct choice or should I rush though, potentially making a bad choice in order to get back to "chicken tending"?

I think what it ended up doing instead was making people rush through funny dialogue and scenarios that I spent a lot of the precious 48 hours on.

Thanks for playing!

Chicken Tender by misterstripey 2017-12-06T01:53:04Z

@chipmonkey thanks so much for the thoughtful comment!

And yes.. that's exactly how the sound effect recording went down...

I agree with your gameplay comments. The most fun way to play these types of games is to SCALE UP, BUY UPGRADES, GET MORE, etc. - but I wanted to try to make a game that rewarded the opposite (as per the theme). The more you grew your operation, the more the animals suffered. The game is definitely less fun because of that, but I think it makes more of a statement.

I'll Take You To Tomato Town by adamgryu 2017-12-05T17:23:07Z

I loved this game! The sound effects were so good and it was really fun to try to find stuff in the store. The mustard was the hardest. To find.

My favorite little touch was the laughing in the background of the phone calls. It really made me smile because I could tell it was a bunch of good friends who were just having fun making a game!

Awesome stuff.

Too Many Chooks by Schu 2017-12-04T19:28:30Z

YES! I also made a game about chickens so this really jumped out at me as a must-play. It was pretty difficult but I loved seeing all the different breeds of chook, so I was inspired to keep playing. I have a pet Silver-Laced Wyandotte - that one is my favorite.

I loved all the chicken sounds in this game- how did you make them / collect them? It really ups the mayhem of the game when all of them are making noises.

Thanks so much for bringing this game into the world :)

Sleepy Chicken Sexer by RobotsAndMuffins 2017-12-04T16:53:31Z

Great job on the visuals! Really clean looking game. As a vegetarian, I love that the chicks were holding up little "Eat plants" signs. Might have been a good opportunity to show what really happens to the male chicks...

Anyways, fun little game, I enjoyed playing it! I was drawn to it because I also made a game about chickens :)

Heavy Hearts by Badly Drawn Rod 2017-12-04T18:40:03Z

Hey, nice game! Were the sound effects from an actual child or did you pitch shift your voice? One comment that I have is that it is almost impossible to get to home on the later levels. Maybe it was because I only had one balloon, but I really felt like I was about to break my keyboard spamming space and ctrl.

Thanks for sharing this game!

Sam Snow by Matthias Schedel 2017-12-04T18:48:24Z

Nice job completing your first LD! I like the graphics of Sam and the Snowman, but felt like the rest of the atmosphere of the game (harsh wind sounds, etc.) didn't match up with this pleasant happy art.

I would have loved to hear a neat wintery music track with this- I think it really would take this to the next level!

Thanks so much for sharing this game!

A Spark of Light by TurbulentWinds 2017-12-06T01:03:00Z

Nice and calm game with a great moody atmosphere. My first instinct was to collect all the light in the level, even thought I knew it was bad for me! That music was beautiful, did you compose it?

I wish the ideal way to play this game was not just siting around waiting for it to go dim until you pick up another light ball. The most engaging way to play was to be moving around, so I would have loved to see a mechanic that rewards players for that too.

Great job on completing your first ludum dare with this solid entry!

Mo' Gold, Mo' Dragons by tvance 2017-12-04T19:18:21Z

I really loved this! The dragon ai felt very fine tuned, the way they would come in for swoops. It was really fun trying to smash them into each other while grooving to that great SOUNDTRACK! This is the kind of game I love ludum dare for, maybe it's not polished with art and visual effects, but it has so much charm.

Thanks for sharing this with the world.

The Infernal Knowledge by Koficola 2017-12-04T23:07:07Z

Great job with the graphics! I would have loved to see some music with this!

I really liked your writing quotes in between levels. They were so silly!

ParanoWeed by Eraleis 2017-12-04T14:20:19Z

Great job on the music and sound effects- did you make them yourselves?

As for the game I was like, eh another platformer, and then I got the weed and just laughed out loud. The visuals and audio all came together there. Really good job with that moment.

Epitaph by velvetlobster 2017-12-05T19:11:34Z

Beautiful little experience. Thanks for sharing!

Smoking Kills by Malthemester 2017-12-04T22:48:07Z

Hey, this game looks interesting but the link is broken!

MAMMONITE LD40 by bigmetre 2017-12-04T14:47:00Z

At first I wasn't sure how the theme fit in and I wasn't sure what I was hitting the goblins with. But, when it clicked that the money sack was getting bigger for each goblin-slay, I enjoyed the game a lot more. It was really fun trying to get a really big sack ;)

Great job with the graphics! Love that you're able to whip up this kind of stuff in 48 hours. I would have loved to see some more effort put into sounds, vfx, music, and fine tuning gameplay to back up the graphics, but I understand time is a scarce resource.

Also, I feel like I should report- the high score is not updating on the HTML version.

nice game!

BURROWED TIME by endesga 2017-12-04T17:30:00Z

Fantastic! I was going to review a bunch of games, but I just ended up playing this one trying to get further and further. Thanks so much for participating and bringing this amazing game into the world.

It really is stunning how you were able to get this so polished in only 48hrs! Great, great work.

LD51 — Every 10 seconds

The Candy Corn to Mars by Krassenstein 2022-10-05T16:17:20Z

Hey, I really enjoyed playing this and chatting with you on stream! Here's a link to it that should be up for the next week or so: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1609990150?t=00h40m10s

The gameplay was pretty enjoyable, even without audio/visual polish, and it was a perfect game to chill out with and wind down the stream. I liked that the controls were a little fuzzy and didnt allow perfect 1:1 movement, there was some nice drift and physical motion to wrap my head around. Would have loved to see what you could make if the artist on your team wasnt busy this weekend! Also, I liked trying to strategize about what upgrade route to take, I think that simple choice drove me forward in wanting to play more and figure out this game.

Tense Conds by Wendel Scardua 2022-10-04T19:18:41Z

Hiya! I enjoyed playing this on stream. Thanks for filling in the high score for me! I feel accomplished up there on the leaderboard haha.

This game was really neat! I enjoyed discovering the hidden purposes of all the blocks and optimizing my runs on further attempts. Great job with this one.

Parcel Problems. by Jacob Diaz 2022-10-04T17:27:07Z

Hey Jacob! I really enjoyed playing this on stream. It was cool trying to figure out how to put everything together and the wonky physics were fun to struggle around with and just perfectly sitting on the border between easy and frustrating. The atmosphere and general vibe fit the theme really well, you should be proud of this compo entry!

Silvi by nardandas 2022-10-06T00:34:16Z

Hey! I really enjoyed playing this game on stream. Here's the video of my playthrough that will be up for a week or so if you want to share with your team: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1610268632?t=00h44m57s

Wow. Where to begin? This game was a breath of fresh air that was really welcome while I was making my way through a ton of jam entries! It was nice to have something peaceful and not very demanding in between your typical brutally hard jam game. The visuals and audio all came together to make a definite VIBE. I'm hoping to see you get top marks for MOOD! MOOD Trophy! You deserve it!

Thanks for sharing this.

The leaderboard was an excellent touch that kept me going trying to place. For the record, I WAS third place with 137 when I played. Who knows what happens from here...

Said it on stream, but great job with this one. It really is the epitome of a great compo entry. Simple idea, polished to perfection. Loved the visual effects and game feel you sprinkled on every little element of this game. Great work

Drift Boom Boom by sonictimm 2022-10-04T17:14:31Z

I loved the controls and driving feel of the game, it felt really satisfying to nail a missile shot from a long distance. The intro also did a lot to give the game a more fun vibe!!! Great work

Holospecter by theStoff 2022-10-04T17:30:16Z

Yall knocked it out of the park with this one. Really enjoyed playing this on stream - thanks for stopping by and sharing this game. The level design was really nice and had me wanting to play more. The audio and voice acting were really on point too. This felt like one of those rare game jam games where the team really has it together and it showed! Way to go.

Getting Farted On by kuviman 2022-10-05T15:36:52Z

Hey! Enjoyed playing this on stream. Here's a link to the VOD if you want to grab any of the footage: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1609951820?t=00h29m12s

I got farted on big time. really enjoyed the challenge of this. Was so confident I was going to get a high score and then it was like... OOF. The falls were difficult to recover from emotionally. I went in with a huge ego and I left defeated, but better for the challenge. You did a great job making something unique, charming, and memorable during the Compo. I hope to see you place high in Humor!!! Thanks for the game :)

Time Thief by YellowKamel 2022-10-05T15:51:02Z

Hey, I enjoyed playing this on stream! Here's the VOD in case you want to share with your team before twitch takes it down in a week or two: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1609951820?t=00h43m20s

I had so much fun getting to read all the dialogue out loud that I had to rush through the end to get to the boss. Loved some of the character names and unique situations, it made me smile. It was quite the surprise to see the **SPOILER** added in at the end after only thinking this was a choice-driven visual novel. Great job!!

Cosmic Crashers by mrjeremy 2022-10-04T17:16:04Z

Hey, I enjoyed playing this on stream this morning! Sick audio had me soooo pumped for sci-fi action. It was a really tough game but audio and visuals just KEPT ME GOING!

I loved the challenge and vibe of this one. I didn't want to let the cute spooky characters down so I wanted to make sure everything was stocked up! It got real overwhelming real fast, but I thoroughly enjoyed the hectic nature of it.

The radio was the icing on the cake. It really gave a lot of character to the game. What a great idea and yall filled it up with chill tunes and funny commercials.

Poda Wants a Statue by Doot 2022-10-04T17:19:26Z

I really enjoyed playing this on stream, thank you for sharing it with me. I literally think this is the epitome of a perfect jam game. Beautiful audio & visuals, interesting systems to discover, and all put together in a way that had me really wanting to play more. idk if you could tell but I was seriously disappointed that the timer made me need to move on to the next game!

Escape The Simulation by Dark Dungeon Studio 2022-10-05T15:56:05Z

Hey! Was great playing this on stream. Here's the VOD link that will be up for a week or two: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1609990150?t=00h00m57s

I loved the general mood and ambience of this one. I would have loved to have some checkpoints because it felt brutal to have to start over all the time, but again, I think the restarting helps with the puzzle I was stuck on so I'm not really sure what the best solution is there. The minor mouse-look bug could not stop me from trying to get as far as I could! Once that puzzle was introduced I got real interested in trying to figure it out.

A Handy Job by 0X_VOID_X0 2022-10-05T16:08:06Z

BANGER ludum dare entry. Here's the VOD of me playing it on stream earlier: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1609990150?t=00h13m23s, should be up for a week or two.

Really enjoyed this one. The tutorial was thorough and taught me everything I needed to know to fail within a few tries. I was eager to jump back in and demonstrate my prowess, scoring 56 total / 26 fast. You did a great job with a consistent polished art style, unique gameplay concept, and just difficult enough to keep me trying. Glad your game came up on my wheel of chance!

Hey, thanks for submitting this on my stream! Here's the VOD that should be up for a week or two: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1609990150?t=00h13m23s

I really wanted to beat this one. The visual style is fun and vibrant. Unfortunately, the visual effects made me really nauseous. I'd recommend making a slider for it but it was kinda the whole point of the game so I guess it makes sense to not turn it off. I guess if your goal is to make a drunkeness simulator, then nausea is part of the package! haha. Either way, great job with this entry and making something so polished over the weekend.

Gemstones by Spike Studio 2022-10-04T17:11:26Z

Hey, I enjoyed playing this on stream! I really wanted to give it another go to see if I could beat my score. You did an incredible job with the music and SFX and I really loved just chilling out with a low pressure puzzler (that actually got quite intense towards the end)

Great job with this game. Like I said, I really enjoyed the chill matching gameplay that let me get into the zone and not worry too much about the specifics of combat. You even went above and beyond with the PRO voice acting intro. You've got talent - thanks for sharing your game!!

Great job on your first compo entry! You're gonna go far as a gamedev, I can tell. This game has a really tightly interwoven level design that doesnt just happen by accident. You made a really approachable-yet-challenging game that was supremely beatable with loving sprinkles of polish (like title screen music!!). Great job.

Short Fuse by Orionhart 2022-10-06T02:09:40Z

Where to begin? I really admired the vision you had for this and the execution that you followed up with. It was a really ambitious jam game and you delivered on almost all of that ambition. The world and characters felt alive, the music was BUMPIN, and I was having a great time even when I was blowing myself up in slime-headedness. Your team should feel proud of the work you accomplished this weekend. It also tells me something that you're tirelessly working on infographics for the game AND busy with your job AND submitting the game to be played on streams. You're putting in real work and it shows!

If I had to get critical for a second, I'd say the movement was a bit slippery and certain consequences were a bit too punishing (holes & slimes). But for a jam game, some difficulty spikes are to be expected. What matters more is that I was compelled to continue through the challenge. The visuals, music, character, and mystery of what lies another floor down kept me playing.

Great job and thank you for sharing the game!

Unforgiving 2 by Morfy 2022-10-04T17:21:19Z

Hey, thanks for sharing this on the stream! I got 5 keys! my good run ended by getting stuck at the bottom of the map but overall I really enjoyed my time with this one. It worked really well as a streaming game because I could talk to chat while I was hiding in the house from lightning. The push-your-luck elements were really nice too. Great work!

This game was right up my alley with fantasy plants and cool characters (Greg the frog man). I know you said the descriptions were missing, but part of the fun for me was discovering the names of the plants and what they liked to eat. Now, that definitely kept me from getting a high score, but I felt like it was a fun part of the game to discover on my own what a Saguaron is. Chill gardening & shopkeeping vibes = A+. Great job to the whole team and thank you for sharing :)

I loved the depth to this game and the character designs. It was certainly an ambitious jam game and you all managed to deliver something really unique. It was a little slow to get going, but once it did I was really eager to dig into all the systems and dialogue to see how combos and exploring different thoughts would change my character. Thanks for the neat game!

Minigulf Gods by Joror 2018-05-12T19:09:07Z

Learn Math With Flappy Bee by nusan 2018-05-14T13:46:38Z

Wow! This game was outstanding. The design and work that went into it are very evident and it is a great play on the theme. This is probably the most well designed game I've played in the jam. Great work. The only suggestions I would have for improvement would be on Sound/Visual effects. Awesome game and thanks so much for sharing!

Wow, what a beautiful game! Loved the animations of the flowers opening up and the hand-drawn jittery line style. My favorite touch was the zoom out at the end of the level. It really made me inspired to play again and make cool patterns. Thanks for sharing this game with the world

Officer Pain - The Smash Cop by DaragonGames 2018-05-14T13:37:12Z

Interesting mash up of detective game and beat-em up! I agree that the game could really benefit from some particle effects and some hints to teach the player what to do in the levels. Thanks so much for sharing!

OLEK by Ethan Allwood 2018-05-12T22:50:18Z

This game was really rad.

Roulette Knight by Finlal 2018-05-13T13:26:50Z

This game was outstanding. So polished and professional for a jam game. Awesome job.

Dear Clicker by blubberquark 2018-04-23T15:34:35Z

What makes clicker games so dang addictive? I just had to beat this one. Love the piles of random stuff around the map - I would have loved even more of that wackiness!

Great stuff!

UFO-Defence by SvartTand 2018-05-15T14:44:56Z

This game is so fun! And so difficult (in the best way possible). I'm playing over and over again trying to optimize my build instead of rating other games! Fantastic job and I'd love if you could rate my game here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/win-my-heart-battle-royale-dating-sim

Rapid Fire by Anubhav Kashyap 2018-05-14T13:56:26Z

Nice game! The 3d modeling and animation was on point. Great job. I'd love it if you could check out my game here, I just need a few more ratings before the deadline! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/win-my-heart-battle-royale-dating-sim

Quadsoup by thevaber 2018-05-12T21:40:43Z

Hey, this was a neat little game. Great job on the lighting and environmental design. The sound effects of the energy swarm really helped to build the tension too. Nice work!

Totempo by TheFunAttic 2018-05-14T14:07:12Z

Wow! This is one of my favorite games I've played this jam. I really liked the rhythm and tower defense mash up. The thing that really stood out to me in this game was the audio/visual polish. The sound design was great, and even the UI and menus fit in with the game. Fantastic job.

Tofu Royale by Bernhard 2018-05-13T12:00:06Z

Oh my, I also made a Battle Royale game with a Tofu character(soyfriend) in it! Thanks for sharing this fun game. I made it all the way to the end! Great job with the controls- having that wobbly feeling definitely added to the tension.

HyperTexasPachinkoPongSurvarium with Cows™ by bbaf 2018-05-14T13:28:34Z

Hey this was a hilarious game! Love all the sound effects XD

Beat Street by solluxx 2018-05-12T18:58:27Z

Hey! nice game! I really loved the concept and it seemed to be a really good fit for the theme. I would have loved some kind of music that you can do the drum beat to- for a rhythm game the audio was a little sparse. But overall really great job and I really enjoyed building out my town on beat street

Rogue Race by Groggi 2018-05-12T23:48:35Z

I really liked the striking visual style. Great job

BattleFarm: Bullet Season by Crimson 2018-05-14T15:09:10Z

Awesome game! I liked all of the neat mechanics and how the different plants had different abilities. Would have loved some wacky sound effects that matched the art style! Great work

I'd love if you could play and rate my game too  https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/win-my-heart-battle-royale-dating-sim

Typer: (Word Search X Top Down ARPG) by agentendercake 2018-05-12T19:25:10Z

Fun game! I loved gathering all the letters and I obsessed over finding the right ones to help me fill out my inventory. Just a little heads up: the return to main menu button is broken on the web version after you go to the About screen. Fun game (thanks for playing mine too :))

Soccer Fight by mic_matrix91 2018-05-14T15:24:13Z

Nice game! The sound effects really had me laughing and I loved how far you got knocked into the air when you got caught. AWESOME WORK!

Everything is Cards! by Casual Dutchman 2018-05-12T21:53:09Z

Woah! I really liked this one. I'm a nut for CCG's so it really grabbed my interest. I felt compelled to collect all of the cards. The art was good, but left me wanting a little more audio polish and some effects to give more feedback to the player when they perform actions like picking up cards or when they are out of mana. Great job on this.

Memories ~ of a Gacha Tale by tastelikecoke 2018-05-14T13:13:40Z
