LD38 — A Small World

Icarus Isolation by King Kujito 2017-04-25T21:03:19Z

I just got my scripts folder(I always keep them all in one place), and uploaded that to google drive with a secret link or whatever its called(so that only people with the link can see it), and then put the link in my description.

Ruler of Survival by Flying Cat of the Pepes 2017-04-28T16:15:05Z

Shodanon- Thank you! I came up with the name in the last few minutes, so I wasn't trying to think of a good name but at least it's better than "Game by Me: The game where you keep people alive and stuff". But I shouldn't change it now, because there might be people who have already played my game and want to come back to it once searching for games is available, and searching for it wouldn't work if I changed the name.

If what you're talking about with the camera is that left click is also used for putting wood in fires, etc, and it should be right click, then I agree that right click is better. But in the web build with right click a menu would popup every time I tried to move the camera with right click. So I had to change it to left click. Then I didn't want anyone downloading the windows version after the web version to get confused with the controls if the web build used left click and the windows build used right click. So I just changed both of them to left click.

I actually completely agree with you that it should not be a sandbox game, but I didn't think I had enough time to add a win state and level unlocking etc, by the time I needed to add either a sandbox-type gameplay or win states etc. If I have time to work on the game soon, I will definitely remove the Sandbox gameplay from the levels. I might still have a few special levels that are sandbox, but that won't be the whole game.

I'm sorry the game didn't have much content, I had plans for unlocking the people's knowledge of how to eat etc with coins, and having animals they could hunt and much more, but I had to cut my ideas WAY down once I realized I didn't have nearly enough time. Again, if I have more time to work on it, I will add more content.

I was worried that people would think the tutorial was too long, so I put a few jokes in it here and there, and made it super interactive. I'm glad you liked it!

Sorry for the long reply, but thank you for commenting!

Ruler of Survival by Flying Cat of the Pepes 2017-05-01T18:46:18Z

I agree with you guys that the controls are kind of hard to use, but could you give me a suggestion on how to improve them? Thanks!

Ruler of Survival by Flying Cat of the Pepes 2017-05-02T16:28:36Z

Your people are alive as long as they still have health displayed, and are standing upright. When they die, all of their hunger and health points are no longer shown and they fall down, and stop moving. Thanks for the feedback!

Jar of Life by hunttis 2017-05-20T01:44:58Z

Wasn't too fun, but definitely gets 5/5 stars in graphics, sound, and mood. The physics for the plants falling where a cool little addition, and the game was very relaxing. AMAZING job, guys!

Flerth by parahunter 2017-05-20T18:07:32Z

Cute little game, gets challenging the longer you play, so its kind of fun. Could use some more content, though. Maybe different species of creatures in the city that behave differently, or a mode with more cities that the creatures build over time. A quit button and a pause button would be useful, too. Overall, it was fun, and the graphics and sound where good and went well with the arcade-like, cute game-play. Great work!

Legend of Helda: Breath of the Mild by Bryan Livingston 2017-05-05T04:10:03Z

The audio was nice in the game, and the world design was good. The map in the lower right corner was pretty useful, too. I liked bouncing on the water, and gliding off tall mountains. It was pretty fun overall.

Now on to some of the bad stuff from me: I don't understand what the inventory is for, for the time I played it I found no use for it, the only thing I could collect was ammo and it didn't go in my inventory, there was a special counter for it. I will have to give you a minimum rating on graphics and overall because your entry is a compo entry, but in your video you mentioned that a lot of the assets you downloaded and did not make yourself in 48 hours. Minimum rating in graphics is because you did not make your own graphics(at least partially), and minimum rating in overall is because you broke the compo rules. You also received a minimum rating for theme because the world is definitely not small.

But other than not following rules, the game was mostly good.

Little Sky Farm by H4kor 2017-05-09T21:49:18Z

Overall a fun game. There are quite a lot of obvious rendering bugs(a big one is that the stars at night are rendered above the UIs, WTF?, and why in living hell would you render the stars above the player?), and you can plant trees and wheat on wooden bridges which makes no sense. The music is fantastic, and the art is pretty nice. There is one huge error, though: The goal of the game is to get 1000 gold, but selling bread gives you 1 gold, while selling the 10 wheat that you get from a very early stage of making the bread gives you 10 gold. So bread is pretty much worthless, you REALLY, REALLY need to fix that. Also, to win the game you could just mine gold for an hour and buy the ring which is kind of pointless, you should put a limit to the gold you can mine. There is also a bug where sometimes I cannot collect trees or wheat that I place, and they are just stuck there because whenever I try to harvest them it opens a menu or gives me a "not enough dough" warning or something because they are too close to a building. It's also possible to run out of wood or wheat perminately, which would mean the game would instantly transform the game into a boring clicker on the mine for hours, which would suck(not that I did that, I just realized it was possible). I can also ride off with the shop when it flies up with is weird. Also, a weird thing is that I can reset the time of day by jumping off of the island but that's all that is reset/changed by jumping off. I think you should remove jumping off of the island entirely, it's kind of a pointless feature. I would also lower the cost of a ring to 500 gold, as the game gets boring by the time you get that much. You can also plant trees and wheat in the shop, and when the shop flies away its just a floating tree/wheat. It also gets super annoying having to press space EVERY SINGLE TIME you want to sell one item, you should have a system where you can type the number of items you want to sell or something. Also, why can you select your coins? Other than all those bugs and problems, its a pretty nice game(the bugs aren't too game ruining, so its still a good game, but it would be WAY better if you fixed the bugs).

smallworld by misterstripey 2017-05-20T01:36:26Z

I really like the sound effects(like a lot), and the graphics are good for 48 hours. The gameplay was fun, but I only played two games because I had to go through a long intro every single time I clicked play. Maybe only have the intro the first time, then you can jump right into the gameplay after you've played it once. Other than that, great little game for 48 hours!

Classical Conditioning Cooperation - [CCC] by AwesomeAlliterationAlliance 2017-05-20T02:17:36Z

Graphics are amazing, as well as audio. Gameplay is fun, by slow and annoying. When a rat dies, the entire level restarts, which is annoying because the rats move slowly making the level very long. It is also annoying to move through long pipes accidentally. Other than that. amazing game!!!

6-Sided Sojourn by Cosmic Adventure Squad 2017-04-25T01:39:14Z

I really like the artstyle, and the theme fits perfectly. It's fun at first, but it's not challenging at all and if you die you have to restart all of the exact same levels :/. An idea to make it more challenging would be to maybe be to have upgrades. The way they would work is after a level ends, you could look at the next level but not actually have your cat enter it yet. Then after you've seen what you're going to get into you can make an upgrade. So maybe there are 4 upgrades to choose from each level(you can only take 1 of course), and you have to figure out which one would benefit you the most. If you don't choose wisely, you could die before the level is over because of your bad choice. If there was something to make it more challenging like that it would be a perfect little game for me.

6-Sided Sojourn by Cosmic Adventure Squad 2017-04-25T01:39:16Z

I accidentally posted 4 versions of this because of slow connection but there's no way to delete it, so I'm just shortening all of them but the first to this. The game is good, if you can't find my first comment.

LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Coinminator 2000 by Victor Sette 2017-12-05T02:53:00Z

The game was fun, but there was a serious bug that I found. I found that if you get more than about 350 coins(I think that was the number), then collision stops working on a lot of things, especially bridges. This was a huge problem in the second level with the pits (the ones that if you fall into them, you have to restart the entire level). There was a big bridge across one of the pits, and I was holding about 400 coins when I stepped on the bridge. Well, I fell through the bridge and had the restart the level which sucked.

I liked tossing my coins around to be able to make the jumps, then collecting them again once I made a jump, and repeating the process. The game was pretty fun. Nice work!

Bath Time by DDRKirbyISQ 2018-08-30T03:53:51Z

I'm not sure if it was actually fun or if I was just smiling because of how cute it was, but I gave you 5 stars in almost every category, including fun.

@pixelformedstudios Thank you!!! So glad you liked it :)

Shrink Bots by Flying Cat of the Pepes 2018-08-29T23:47:35Z

@lerc I don't know whether you played the original or the post-mortem, but the post-mortem uses WASD and you can press TAB to toggle the shop (With your ring finger, which isn't that bad). Using Q and E to cycle through items and selecting an item as soon as you purchase it are both good ideas, I'll make sure to add them if I make another update. In the post mortem, easy mode is also MUCH easier, and the barriers progress a lot slower, so it won't feel quite as fast.

Grim Depths by Flying Cat of the Pepes 2019-04-29T20:29:15Z

@andidebob Thank you! Yah, I never got around to adding music, so you weren't missing anything. Good idea with the tutorial text, I'll give it a background if I ever upload a new version of the game. And yah, I planned to have 3 enemies total but I didn't have time for that so you're just left with the slimes.

Grim Depths by Flying Cat of the Pepes 2019-04-30T01:21:50Z

@vinay-rao Thank you!!!!!!! Yah, I noticed after playing it for a while that the sword is a bit overpowered. I'll up its upgrade cost a bunch if I release a new version of the game. Thank you for all the good things you've said :D

Grim Depths by Flying Cat of the Pepes 2019-05-04T02:59:12Z

@gward2489 Thanks! I was recording another sound effect and the mic got too close to my mouth so there was weird noise and it happened to sound like a really good laser sound, so I used that instead even though I already made a laser sound that was more high-pitched like the stuff you hear in other games.

Nyapocalypto by WetBox 2019-04-29T23:47:56Z

Hey, I clicked the itch.io link and it gave me a 404 not found. IDK why, but itch.io has settings for visibility of your game and it defaults to private where only the developers can see the page. Click edit your game on the page, scroll to the bottom, and make sure that the option for visibility is set to the bottom one where everyone can see it.

Your link also might be wrong if that's not it

Nyapocalypto by WetBox 2019-04-30T01:32:17Z

@wetbox No problem :) I played your game, and I really dig the graphics. Not personally into the gameplay but that's probably just because I'm into more fast paced action games with a player that runs around with guns and stuff Also, this isn't a problem for the most part because it's a ludum dare game and most people just see it and play it but if this were a commercial game I would have no idea how to find it because I wouldn't remember the name and even if I did, I'd have no idea how to spell it. Again, not a problem with this really but keep that in mind if you ever release a game on Steam or whatever, keep it easy to find. Overall pretty good work though!

Unlock Everything by DDRKirbyISQ 2019-10-07T00:14:41Z

Amazing game, really impressed that you could do this much in the compo. I had one bug a couple times where if you tried walking to the next scene sometimes (where everything freezes and the camera moves to the right), it wouldn't work and the player would just fall out of the world. I think it happened one of the times when I was moving too fast

really good work tho!

Red Vs Green by Flying Cat of the Pepes 2019-10-06T21:53:41Z

@travis-carlen Thank you! Yah, I should've added WASD. And I actually remember getting that bug once but I guess I forgot about it. Thanks for playing it :) IDK if it's worth it to reupload just for that because I'm not sure if theres anything else I want to add tho. Also come back in a little bit whenever rating starts and give it a rating if you want

Red Vs Green by Flying Cat of the Pepes 2019-10-07T00:16:34Z

@rob1221dev Nice, I think the highest I got was like 1200. Yah I noticed that backwards arrows aren't useful really at all, but the only other weapon that can be chosen backwards is the seeking missile, which is useful because it just turns around and hits the enemy anyway.

Red Vs Green by Flying Cat of the Pepes 2019-10-07T19:57:38Z

@griz Okay, I have a Windows 10 too and when I run it from command prompt instead of double clicking it to open it, it starts correctly. If that doesn't work, I'm not really sure, if more people have the same problem I might look into it

Red Vs Green by Flying Cat of the Pepes 2019-10-09T03:17:16Z

@walkingtall85 actually I don't think I've ever seen that bug, I got a bug one time where you can walk back into the previous room when the gate is closing after walking in and get stuck in the last room but I never go stuck outside. Glad you had fun though!

Red Vs Green by Flying Cat of the Pepes 2019-10-10T01:20:42Z

@FinalForeach Oh no, I didn't realize there were different jar files for different systems, I've always used Windows so I never had a problem with it. Next time, I'll try to include them. Thanks for playing it :)

Red Vs Green by Flying Cat of the Pepes 2019-10-28T20:17:53Z

@atomfox0213 oh no! that looks like a problem inside of the library I'm using, LWJGL, not anything that I wrote. You probably have an outdated version of something, but I really don't know so it's probably not worth trying to debug. Sorry

Really cool game, a couple bugs that happened were: I can walk too far to the right and my player will be in the side of the screen with the dad walking but still be colliding with and interacting with things from the fantasy world that I cant see yet the enemies never actually attacked me and took away my health, they just went towards the right until they reached my dad and then started attacking him. really really great graphics tho, but it looks like you opted out of graphics ratings??

I clicked on your game because I liked the bad looking cover art, but it actually has some of the best art I've ever seen in a Jam game. Maybe change ur cover art to one of the other screenshots like the third of the four you have here. It's a cool image, just hard to tell what it is when its small as cover art. just advice tho. Racing Tower Defense by Flying Cat of the Pepes 2018-04-23T16:38:57Z

Thanks! You're right, though. The text is a bit hard to read. I'll make and release a post mortem, probably sometime today that will fix a few minor bugs that I found and make the text as readable as I can make it. If anyone else is having trouble reading the text before then, make sure your game window is as big as it can be.

@tomdeal I agree that the game is hard, but you can get used to it. I have plans to add difficulty settings in an update so that players can play on an easier mode (I'll probably add this and some other improvements either today or tomorrow). Thanks for rating the game!

Racing Tower Defense by Flying Cat of the Pepes 2018-04-24T20:09:09Z

@brandann If you unlock the monster truck (or the muenster truck), you will be able to run over multiple enemies before dying. It doesn't help with the rocks and towers, but it might make it a little easier to survive.

Okay, I released that update that I mentioned. Details are on the itch.io page.

Racing Tower Defense by Flying Cat of the Pepes 2018-04-28T21:02:35Z

@LemonLimes I'm sorry that you didn't enjoy my pizza-shooter. I took your feedback into consideration and changed the idea and art, as well as removed all sound effects as I unfortunately have no idea how to make good music. The game is no longer a pizza shooter, but a racing TD.

Racing Tower Defense by Flying Cat of the Pepes 2018-05-15T14:18:36Z

@lightsoda There isn't a set path for the enemies, they just use pathfinding to get to the player. I was considering giving them a path, but then you could just drive outside of the path and they wouldn't ever get to you. In TD games that have a set path, there is usually something at the end of the path that you have to stop the enemies from getting to. In my game, you have to stop the enemies from getting to the player, and since the player is always moving, the path has to always move as well. Thanks for your comment!

InvadTris by csanyk 2018-04-25T18:49:14Z

The game was fun, but I agree with a lot of people on here that it was slow. As far as I can tell, there's also no way to rotate the Tetris pieces. My suggestions are to add better graphics and some audio.

Scale Run by PanicTheFirst 2018-04-24T19:06:06Z

LOL I don't know why you added a walking animation if it's only shown when the player is walking into a wall. Also, I think there should be an option to have W be towards the camera and S be away from it. That way, the W which is higher than the S will increase the player size, and the S, which is lower than the W will decrease it. I know it's supposed to have 3D controls, but its more intuitive the way that I described. Nice graphics, but the game is pretty hard

Grid Gunner by SuperTibbles 2018-04-23T04:43:44Z

The graphics are pretty good, and the game is fun! The only problem that I had was with the controls. Sometimes when I was trying to aim at a right angle, I would move by accident. The two controls are too close to each other. Try increasing the radius of the aiming circle by a few "pixels" or decreasing the size of the movement buttons by a very small amount.

Grid Gunner by SuperTibbles 2018-04-23T04:44:48Z

Nevermind, I didn't realize that you could click anywhere to aim. I thought you had to click exactly on the aiming circle.

Dyeswap by morphine 2018-05-16T19:17:05Z

I solved one of the levels by standing in the walkable glass and then switching colors to make the glass that I was standing in solid. I got pushed up onto the top of the map and then just walked over the unsolved puzzle and through the yellow exit. :P Nice game! I don't remember what game it was, but there is a 4-dimensional puzzle-shooter game where you place and destroy colored blocks to solve puzzles, and your game reminded me of it.

Move and Hide by Hizrok 2018-04-24T19:21:17Z

In the level where I have to press H to hack, and the guy gets angry when I do and starts to chase me, he just stood in front of the door that I hacked and I could walk through him. His vision for spotting me broke.

Happy Quiz by SophieM 2018-04-24T18:55:52Z

I correctly predicted the second genre by the gif and the fact that it had the word "happy" in the title. Pretty cool game, though. There isn't any real "quiz" mechanic with right or wrong answers, but that's okay. It would probably be ruined if you could get some of them wrong. Also, ring the doorbell, don't just come into my room like this next time.

Racing Defender by nicksmaddog 2018-04-24T22:51:57Z

I didn't entirely understand how to play it, but it was kind of fun. The concept is good, but I'm not being egotistical when I say that, even though I also made a racing TD https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/racing-tower-defense. Nice work over all.

Type n' Jump by Richard N Silva 2018-05-13T01:32:27Z

Very fun, good job! The only critism I have except that the audio is very repetitive is that I don't understand why typing "jumo" passes as jump, but "juml" or anything else doesn't. Plz explain.
