First game I've played at this ldjam and it's super nice! The idea is pretty great, but I especially love how it feels. It's super juicy :)

First game I've played at this ldjam and it's super nice! The idea is pretty great, but I especially love how it feels. It's super juicy :)
Thanks for the feedback @finntastico! We put a lot of effort on the look and feel of the game :) We are glad you liked it!
Very fun, was rather difficult in places. I like how it accepts slight mis-spelt commands so that it wan't quite so difficult when entering them quickely. Took 199 commands to complete. Would love to see more levelss.
Thanks for the feedback @Wevel! I wish we had more levels too but our schedule was tight so we decided to keep the scope small to preserve quality.
About the mispellings, our goal since the beginning of this project was to avoid player frustration caused by our chosen input method. So, based on our own typos, we created a list of acceptable mistakes. The original idea was to have a kind of health bar that would decrease whenever you mispelled something, but again, due to scope we chose to discard this idea. Honestly, looking back now, I'm glad we did it :)
Very interesting platformer. With the typing genre implantation, this game turns into a puzzle game with keyboard action element.Great for the theme. Change direction and jump is very challenging!
@rainysolar Thanks for the feedback! We tried to balance between challenge and frustration. Hope you had fun playing our game!
I'm lucky I can type so fast, since some parts of this really don't leave you much time to type. Other than that, great job!
Nice game, fantastic idea and fantastic art style. I loved how the robot looks! xD I was amazed how polished the game plays, great job. The only problem i had was with the sounds, it got a little anoying i had to turn my volume all the way down. But i see you were only 2 people doing. Fantastic work! It took me 198 commands! xD
Really interesting concept. It can be hard by times but generally I think it's well thought
Really nice art style, and the game seems very polished. I saw some games with the same concept, but this is the most well done. Good job!
Please, take a look at my game too: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/confessional
@agentparsec Thanks for the feedback!
@Eudes Franco Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, we are not 100% satisfied with the audio as well but we didn't have a "sound guy" on the team so we had to improvise :) 198 commands it's actually really good for a first run. Our current record is 96 commands, but since we are the developers we don't count :) The current record from a user is 140 commands.
@Yozamu We tried to keep challenges and frustration in balance :) We hope you had fun during your play session! Thanks for the feedback!
@Rodrigo Denúbila Thanks for the feedback! I've played your game as well and it's really polished! I left you a more complete feedback on your entry page. Good job!
Yet another game about typing! Neat look! Sometimes it's really frustrating, but not enough to kill any fun. =) I found the background tune a bit annoying, but still acceptable.
You guys earned the 5 stars. This is the best game I've seen yet for this jam. I'm completely jealous that I didn't think of your idea.
P.S. the graphics are great!
Nice game! I loved the art style and The Gameplay! Good job ;)
I made a fishing/racing game to 2 players. Call your friend and play hahaha. Any feedback is always welcome ;)
If you want take a look:
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/super-bass-racing
Great art style! The mechanic is easy to pick up too. I will say the music got repetitive very quickly, but it's really a minor complaint. Good work :D
This is probably the most polished and complete game I've played for this LD so far! Everything about the presentation is crisp and awesome.
I really appreciate some of the subtle helpful features like accepting misspelled inputs and jumping onto ledges when maybe you shouldn't quite make it.
My only critique is that it was pretty hard to time the running and jumping in some cases, but that could just be my slow reflexes.
Overall, one of the best games I've played!
I'm clocking in at 90, though I died a couple times due to panic-typing "sttrkrop" instead of "stop". attempts.PNG
I had lots of fun, it is the kind of game where you want to try again and again to reduce your score, which gave it a lot of replay value. It had a nice sense of balance and structure with the way commands are introduced. One thing I liked about the art style was the CRT shader(?) it used, I couldn't help but notice how much that improved the presentation of the game, together with the "juice" effects like when you mistype a command. Great work, you really put a lot of thought into this!
@Yngvarr Thanks for the feedback! I see you did a game with a similar idea too! Will play it soon and leave you a feedback too. We're glad you liked!
@benhumphries Thank you! We're flattered by your comment, it really meant a lot to us. There are so many great games on LD41 and to be compared with the best ones is really meaningfull. Thanks for that, we're glad you had fun! Help us spread the word and get those 20 ratings!
@isaaclopinho Thanks for the feedback, we'll check it for sure!
@TheMadPangolin Thank you for the feedback! We are not 100% satisfied with the music either, but since we had no much time we had to improvise a lot :)
@Nick Rafalski Thank you very much for your feedback! We don't have words to describe what it feels like to be compared to the best games at Ludum Dare. We did our best to deliver a pleasant experience and a fun game. We are glad you liked :) About the timing, we are currently reviewing some choke points were players have more trouble getting through. Lastly, help us spread the word and get those 20 ratings!
@CaptainDreamcast Thank you very much for your feedback! You are currently holding the commands world record on Type 'n Jump, congratulations! The previous record was 114 moves from a friend of mine and as one of the developers my record was 96! So you beat us at our own game, congratulations! :)
The character's super cute. The audio needs a bit more work, but the text control system is surprisingly smooth. Great work. :)
Thanks for your feedback @MegRabbit! The code-guy @eduardo-scheffler was really flattered that you noticed his hard work on the text system ♥️
You really managed to combine two *incompatible* genres here. 😆 My fast-typing ability is pretty bad, I kept also hitting the 'o' when going for the 'p', and *jumop* isn't a word. D'oh! I failed a multi jump section four times, dropping a good chunk of progress and almost quit in frustration.
But I persevered, and completed the game in a no doubt pathetic 7:57 with 186 commands.
The art, while pretty minimal, is cute and well done. The idle animation for the player is nice and bouncy. The music got a little repetitive, but suits the vibe.
Overall I am conflicted a little, because it was frustrating on one hand, but really pointed out the incompatibility very well. My frustrations are subjective in this regard, though, so I will score objectively. Nice work!
I'm here from the ElysiaGriffin livestream! I love what you did with the genre. A whole other take on it from mine! Cool to see different approaches.
I’d love for you to review my submission as well.
Great presentation and use of the theme. but wow, incompatible indeed! I'm a lover of hard plaformers and the tight control is what drives that genre. One comment is that typing games usually have you typing different words to execute the same action. Typing the same word for each action is not much different than pressing a single button. LEFT is always the same as the arrow key left and so on.
Nice polish, music, art, aesthetic. Good job!
09:45 and 201 commands ^^
And I'm from ElysiaGriffin stream too, my username is Halesgaar there ^^
The game is really cool, that ending was tense man ! But it was so satisfaying to finish it 😁 Great job on everything 🙂
Clever and really well executed idea! It looks good, sounds retro and feels very smooth to play, despite the quirky way to control the character. I had a lot of rage-fueled fun beating it(got stuck for a bit at the end 😆). Awesome work!
hue4.PNG
I win!! Sollyyy!
This is really cool! I can tell a lot of care went into the level design, in how certain blocks are placed in ways to prevent my slow typing-self from losing all of my progress from one mistake, and it felt like a clear ramp of difficulty, and any mistakes I made were my own not from the game.
Great work!
Very well execute idea! I wish it focused more on timing puzzles where you can have the next command buffered and time your enter press, the end of the level was a bit too hard.
@Flaterectomy Thanks for your feedback! Your performance was above the average! Most players finish the game in 10 minutes and over 200 commands! Hope you had fun during your play session!
@croewens Thanks for droping by! I'll check out your game too, I see you took a different approach and I'm curious to try it!
@caspila Thanks for the feedback! We're figuring out how to rebalance some things and let the gameplay as smooth as possible, but yet keeping the platforming interesting!
@Reality-Blind Thank you for the feedback! Hope you had fun during your playtime. We'll check out your game later too!
@aux Thanks for reaching out! Hope you still like us after those raging moments :) We're glad you liked our game!
@Bernardex New World Record! Hey @CaptainDreamcast, **HERE COMES A NEW CHALLENGER!**
@Deprecat Thanks for the feedback and thanks for noticing those design-related stuff. We put a lot of effort on this topic, in order to avoid player frustration due to our unusual input system. There are lots of things that are easy to miss when you get through but if those same things weren't there the player would definitely notice, like you mentioned. Hope you had a great time during your playtime!
@erebus Thanks for the feedback! We hope you had a fun time during your playtime!
Awesome game. That level kept the difficulty/flow curve perfectly. It would be cool to see you expand on the mechanic and maybe add multi command support as an aquired abilility. ex. "left jump" or gradually introduce more actions. This mechanic could have a lot of depth.
Also very nicely done on the aesthetics, animation, and on the feel or the feedback the game gives the player. Working the tutorial hints into the level was a nice touch too. Well done.
Very nice entry. First run was quite challenging to be honest, but as I see some good times here in comments I might try to beat them as well :) Good job overall very good idea.
Good concept, the controls work really well and the graphics look nice. It would be nice if there were some more options, I got as fire as knowing LEFT, RIGHT, JUMP and FIRE. If there was a turn left/right as well as a stop function then the platforming would be more controllable.
Superb. As an idea, I found it would have been useful to have a 'reset' command to re-spawn at the latest checkpoint.
@TomPK7 Thanks for the feedback! We are working on some small bug fixes and we plan to add more funcionality to our commands due to many requests, like "turn left" or "jump right" :)
@jin9310 Thanks for the feedback! We hope you had a good time during your play session!
@gamepopper Actually there is an STOP command but we see that many players finish the game without noticing it. The good news is that we are working on that and we plan to add other commands like "turn" or "jump right". Thanks for your feedback, we hope you had a good time playing our game! :)
@Dustyroom Thanks for your feedback! That's an interesting feature we did consider to add but in the end it didn't make into our scope. Since the level is fairly small we didn't consider it essencial for a full playthrough, so we had to discard it. But in a "full" version we would definitely add it. We hope you had fun with our game! :)
Great scores all around. Fun game, with the player in mind (love how some of the misspellings were OK to use).
The most compelling part of the game was just the kind of feeling I got when I played Super MeatBoy - Despite dying in the same spot a few times I felt compelled to keep trying, as if I **knew** that I could make it. If you could capture that feeling and have it laced throughout the game, I think we'd have a really fun experience on our hands. To make it easier on you, the spot that gave me that feeling was near the end, where there's a saw at the bottom and 4-5 spikes in a row at the top and you have to manage to type it fast enough to make the jump.
In summary, well crafted game
Love the art man! and the genres are pretty cool too, I whish Enter would repeat the last command. I know that the the idea behind the genre is to type but it will be a little less cumbersome in some parts.
Solid entry!
Really challenging and fun game! Easy to understand but hard to play well. Combined typing, platform and even puzzle as well! I found myself always trying to find a better solution. XD
well polished game. :)
Amazing job on this! The concept was extremely clever and executed perfectly. I saw a gif of this game and though, "oh god, this looks like absolute frustrating torture", but it wasn't at all! The game played smoothly and felt fluid. I felt like I got in the kind of flow that you get when you have really good game feel in a more traditional platform. The controls were super tight and responsive and I felt powerful with my keyboard. Absolutely incredible.
The only critique I have is that the music wasn't quite my taste and got repetitive very quickly. This of course could just be my taste though. Not a huge deal though because the rest of the game was absolutely amazing. Well done!
There was this time in the game I was stepping on a spike trap, and under the pressure kept mispelling ‘jump’! Haha, managed to type it a millisecond before the trap went off :) Really great idea, amazingly well executed - great job!
Played it for a bit but I just couldn't get past that part with multiple spikes on the walls and ceilings X)
@Nikaoto Great feedback, thanks! We're glad that you enjoyed our game :) We tried our best to avoid player frustration, so I guess your feedback is a good sign that we are on the right track!
@rombus Thanks for the feedback! We're working on some small improvements on the controls :)
@finalspace @Mau Thanks for the feedback!
@jackrugile Thanks for the feedback! We tried to come up with a game that was challenging yet fair :) We hope you had fun during your play session. We totally agree with you about the music. We don't have a music/sound guy on the team so we had to improvise with our limited knowledge on sound design.
@BlakeMcDeezy Nice to hear that! That's something that usually happens and we're glad players are having this kind of situations of "almost dying but managed to type on the last second". We hope you had a good time during your play session!
@Adrien-Dittrick Thanks for the feedback! You almost made it to the end of the game then :) Hope you had fun during your playtime!
Really great gameplay - love it :) One of the besst games i played in LD41 so far.
@neowhoru Thank you for the feedback! It really means a lot to us!
Damn that was tight. Felt like learning a new instrument haha, finding the most optimum finger placement to type each word quickly! My only gripe was the music got repetitive very quickly :( but otherwise beautifully presented and well designed.
Wow, great job guys!😃 Its for sure a game to save, please keep working at it!
This was a really cool concept and you executed it amazingly. Good job!
Great stuff, really challenging trying to get accurate with the typing for the bigger jumps. Bang on point with theme! Love the polished nature of this entry , great stuff for 48 h :)
Great game. Though this idea was made by another dev(not saying you're stealing the idea) but each one of you (you and the other dev) made his own version of the game. I really liked this game, especially the graphics. Spent 9:05 with 150 commands on this! Good game!
The concept is amazing, I love the art, the level design is great, and it's really fun to play. I love how it gives you the total number of letters you pressed at the end in addition to the time it took you to beat it. The game froze for like 5 seconds when I was playing once but other than that I have zero complaints. This would be a really great game to teach kids typing. Fantastic job.
I love the concept, but I would love to see some more complexity in what's possible for commands, such as the ability to string together any amount of commands (or at least within a character/word limit) and implement delays and stuff, so like "LEFT 0.5SEC STOP RIGHT JUMP" for example. Some command shorthands might make it a bit easier as well, such as just L and R instead of LEFT and RIGHT.
I definitely love the addition of the jump left and jump right feature. While it almost barely had to be used, the times I did need to use it made it's inclusion worth it!
Also, I found out that the computer I was playing on had me missing a lot of stuff like the particle effects and even the explosion animation (nothing to do with your output, my work computer is just crazy restrictive). So I'm glad I came back to see even more details!
Great work as always
Nice game, but definitivly too hard for me :-)
I liked the concept, the music and the artstyle. It all was very well done. The theme of this jam was to combine two things, that would normally not be seen together. I can imagine why this type of game isnt very prominent :D I like to have controll while playing a platformer and although I beat this game (in something like 8 minutes!) it was just very hard for me to play it because it was that hard to controll. Dont get me wrong, as stated before: it was the theme, so its ok, but I got really frustrated very fast :D Nice job, hope your next game will be as good as this one
I was pretty sceptic with the concept from the get go but you manage to surprise me. Could be a bit tiring on the long term tho. Good work.
@Almax @EstacaoMarte @spenn @johnnysix @Belga54 @Paul-Avallone @CalebLewis @Richnou @Christian-Koch @Jonathan-Lorenz Thank you for the feedbacks guys! We hope you had a good time playing our game :)
@Deprecat Thank you for the feedback! We hope that this extra polish improved the overall experience!
i played this game for a while. I really enjoyed it :). This is a hard game but it's not to hard at all. It's just the right difficulty. Thank you for making it.
Awesome use of the theme - and very well polished. GREAT work.
I really liked this! It really fit the theme too! Also, I REALLY liked the sound effect it gave when hitting buttons.
you could just make shortcuts to the words and it would be a normal jump and run
nice little game. I love it.
I enjoyed playing this game a lot! The idea has been used but your game is better than others in my opinion because it is more playable. You can keep focused on your character and what happens to him while typing your orders, and that makes a really good mix between the two genres you chose. I also liked the progressive aspect of the level, that lets you discover the orders one by one with use cases.
I will come back to it I think.
This is a fun little game you made. Good level design that ramps up the challenge and allows the player to explore some of the commands before more challenging areas. I would have preferred having longer platforms to run across with the camera leading in the direction the character was moving (so that I could have more time to respond to upcoming obstacles).
I could totally see this being played by a room full of enthusiastic fifth graders. It brought me back to the educational games I used to play.
A little on the challenging side, but I enjoyed the time I spent with it.
Enjoyed this a lot and it has some great potential as well. You can easily extend it with more advanced commands later that can include wait and sensor actions with branching and stuff like that. But, it should be possible to complete anyway with simple commands. This could make it an awesome game to play for coders like myself and more timing-skilled individuals. Very nice graphics. The music gets old really fast though ;)
Awesome game! I think this is my favorite entry for the theme category, it really shows how incompatible these are but yet they make something pretty awesome. I was actually working on a similar idea a few LDs ago, but I didn't like where it was going, so I made it into a scrolling type-o-shooter instead, which didn't turn out very well either since it's so hard. If you want you can check it out on the old LD site here: http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-32/?action=preview&uid=3933
@kittyinthestudio @bazld @PatrickRMC @Hisfantor @tgiant @loonydrope @Mastersmith98 @krasse @jsmars Thank you for all the feedbacks! We hope you had fun during your play session :)
We tried to balance challenges and frustration in order to create a smooth learning curve. We hope you guys could enjoy it :)
Regarding the music and sound effects, we totally agree that those are not our strongest points, but since we didn't have a "sound guy" on our team, we had to improvise. We hope our players understand that limitation :)
Thank you again for all the constructive commentaries!
Interesting game! There was some time to understand the controls, but after that, it was pretty hard. The audio and graphics fit very well with each other. It was hard to type 'stop' at the correct times like in front of a spike group or saw. This is an innovative game and stuck to Ludum Dare 41's theme very well; it is a text-based platformer. I would like to see a more broad tutorial that covers some of your newer mechanics like 'jump right' and 'turn'. However, for the time you had, this is an amazing entry!, Wel done!
This was a brilliant piece. Well done and beautiful. Good job
Awesome idea and interesting implementation. Command line people might have a benefit here ;)
Great idea and execution altogether, great work :D
Game is great, typing commands is kinda tidious - great entry though - really interesting!
You can check out our game here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/educational-beat-em-up-punches-delivered-with-math
Cute game, and it fits the theme ! Well done ! The audio is good (though a bit repetitive, but at least you have some music so that's pretty good), the graphics are nice, an overall fun game !
Nice idea, well implemented. My wrists hurt after the first few minutes though, hehe. The music was too repetitive, maybe better no music at all than a loop that is that short and repetitive. Also the Level was pretty taxing, after making one bad turn i had to start from way below, i think it is quite hard when you are not such a fast typer, maybe some diffuculty setting would have been good.
> Most players finish the game in 10 minutes and over 200 commands!
Ha, I ain't no average player! Kinda... (I just wished I made in like 9:59 or something like that). 2018-05-01 16_12_19-Type 'n Jump by The Jucas, Eduardo Scheffler, Richard Silva.png
Anyway, this's an amazing entry. The level of polish is great and I love that you took the time to add in typos of the commands as well.
My only complaint would be unnecessarily loud base audio.
@SuperTibbles @Tero-Laxstrom @aemiliu5 @Bartosz @Tayrnarion @larzan Thanks for all the feebacks, we really appreciate them! We hope you had a great time while playing our game!
@SecretPocketCat Hey, congratulations! I guarantee you that on your second playthrough you are going to go below the 10:00 mark :) Thank you for the feedbacks, we hope you had a great time!
@richard-n-silva I'd give another shot but I got too many game to play. You know how it is...
I've seen a couple typing platformers this jam, but this one hits it out of the park. Its polished, looks and sound great, and it was actually fun as well. Good job!
Great execution on this one. I really liked how typing was used as a mechanic in real time
One of the most intelligent entry at this LDJam... really enjoyed playing the game. Had to focus a lot while playing, but overall it was fun.
btw if you wanna try out our horror + comedy game, its here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/memebumps would appreciate your ratings and feedback.
@fashionbatman @Schu @Aditya-Shukla Thanks for all the feedbacks!
The game is really fun, the level.D is very classic but pleasant, the difficulty curve is really well managed. The design is simple and efficient.
The music is a bit repetitive and tiring, but the visual functions very well.
Congratulations.
Original, Fun, kinda Balanced, with a decent LD, well working gameplay & graphs... This one is really well polished, guys ! Gg !
Great job building a level around platforming mechanics that also work with the pacing that the typing allows for. I tried typing 'walk' and 'run' and 'go' before I went back to the move list... those would make sense, right?
Nice entry! I enjoy the mechanics and the overall game. I'm guesing that this mix of genre was consider by many people, I consider myself for a while. You did a very good job mixing it, and the design of the levels are very good. Congrats.
Oh, and I've escaped! ;)
Capture123.PNG
As many pointed, if you are not a quick typer, you are going to have many problems. Although it is a really great idea. Nice job.
Nicely done! Great combination and very well executed. I finished in 4:37 with 134 commands :)
this is so awesome! it was a bit weird at first but its so cool!
would you mind rating my game? https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/lost-in-spacetime
@Kaiomoi @lautregars @Aaron-Nemoyten @TheSheepster Thanks for all the feedbacks guys! We hope you had fun playing our game!
@acoto87 @Strega Congratulations! Your perfomance was above the average. Nicely done guys, thanks for playing and sharing your scores! We hope you had a great time playing Typing 'n Jump!
@zeMenno Thanks for the feedback! Sure, I just left a review on your entry :)
TIM截图20180503205232.png
Really nice game!
Ha, this was a fun theme interpretation! I was worried that it'd be tedious, but the typing part wasn't too bad. Things I appreciated:
- thoughtful level design - clever typing + timing puzzles (backing up for a running jump to give yourself more typing time) - simple but self-explanatory graphics & interface
Great game!
Best game I've played so far. The Leveldesign is literally perfect, because I made it to the end after struggling but I never got bored. Loving it
Good job! Cool game! Very Hard! It would be cool to have a slow camera at certain times so as not to be nearly impossible to get past certain places. I loved the pixel art ... enthralling!
I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.
I hope you continue with the project.
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/witchs-escape
@the-noffs @Bela-Bohlender Thank you for the feedback!
@cristiano-m-garcia Thanks for the feedback! Your game is on my list right now, will give you a feedback for sure!
It's pretty difficult, but had a ton of fun with it! I could see multiple stages being built easily off this idea. Great job!
Best entry I've played so far. I especially liked that you put the instructions on the controls inside the game itself. And the fact the you listed the time and commands count at the end will probably make me play it another time. Well done!
What can I add that have not been said before? Good game! The best I've played this far. I'm not usually fond of spikes ridden platform games, but this one had the perfect balance between difficulty and frustration that allowed me to reach the end. That was fun, bravo!
Nice game!
I like how fun and challenging the game was. Its use of platforming and typing game play made the game sort of like a puzzle platformer. I had to time my movements in order to avoid death. I like how seamless respawning in the game is and I do like that there are checkpoints. It would be annoying to restart the whole game again upon death. I like how the checkpoints are placed fairly, without making the game too difficult or too easy. I also like the aesthetic of the graphics and I like how the text looked, especially the text box where the player types commands. The sound effects sounded great. Though the soundtrack was short and repetitive, it sounded great and I liked it in a a way.
@bernardex's score was hard to beat, but here's my run:
https://youtu.be/iBIyJGrxNAc
I wonder what the fastest possible time is... seems like 1:40 is probably a lower bound.
Oh, and suggestions: add a RESET command and a pre-process muting option, since the music is only an 8 second loop and gets quite annoying after a while. I have no problem with the sound effects, so I guess it would be good to separate out music and sound effects in the hypothetical muting options.
Also, I was randomly linked to [Richard's LinkedIn profile](https://www.linkedin.com/authwall?trk=gf&trkInfo=AQHVMBUCvrUpEAAAAWM4i6VQVpRtxqoijfGjCDqIG-6DX9UtZGc5STNiXZUE6t0QPE6tNHF092gzrYcU5xXjkluhQSva2jBEtkaIe1VOoLsnHI8GrU7aHjeOWuwt39Ep_9yxhmc=&originalReferer=&sessionRedirect=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.linkedin.com%2Fin%2Frichardnsilva%2F) directly from the game after one of my restarts, so that might be a bug. Or I just randomly clicked it elsewhere, but I don't think so...
**EDIT**: Yeah, there is definitely some kind of url linking error within the game, as I was linked here after another restart: https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/vfx/shaders/fullscreen-camera-effects/pixelation-65554
Great game! I've played a bunch of console-controlled games in this jam, and this one is the most polished I've seen so far. And a very smooth gameplay, considering limitations of the terminal-based input. And I love the art style as well.
I'm a terminal junkie, so controlling something with commands is the best thing in the world for me. That is probably why this game was a great joy. Good job!
As for suggestions, it is basically the same, as for all other command-based games I've seen so far. One day I would like to see more complex series of commands in one of these games (think UNIX pipes) - when you could type something like 'right keep 3s jump right keep 2s stop'. In Type n' Jump I can type several commands, but it seems to understand only the last one.
That can make the gameplay more varied and strategic, however, will remove the tension of limited time when you are rushing to type in the right command before running into a hazard.
I like @invader's idea, though I think the proposed syntax for chaining commands could be simplified to 'RIGHT 3s', allowing for statements like 'RIGHT 3s JUMP RIGHT 2s STOP'. I particularly adding loops would be helpful, like "JUMP 3x" to jump 3 times. I definitely agree this would lend to a more strategic experience, and allow for some more interesting gameplay, though level design might need to be tweaked to accommodate it, so I think that's a future game idea rather than an improvement to the current one.
@soylalluvia @lexi @ElGregos @Ruslana Thank you for all the feedbacks! We hope you had fun playing Type 'n Jump
@D-Studios Thanks for the feedbacks! We tried our best to focus on the level design, it was our number 1 priority during the jam and we're glad you liked it. Our rule of thumb while designing the level layout was to introduce new mechanics, train the player and add a checkpoint. Repeat over and over again, introducing slightly more difficult challenges. And lots of gametest too :) We hope you had fun!
@eToThePi-i **Wow, we have a new WORLD RECORD!** Congratulations on your run! And mostly, thanks for your feedbacks! We considered adding those types of commands but in the end we had to left them out of the scope of the project due to the jam time limitation. I totally agree with the music being too repetitive, specially if you play the game over and over again, but we didn't have a sound guy on the team so we had to improvise, unfortunately. Regarding the url bug, we have identified what is causing it! Thanks for the report! We hope you had fun playing our game and thanks again for the feedback!
@invader Thanks for the feedback! During development's brainstorm phase we thought about the possibility of giving a series of commands for the robot but we decided to stick with one command at time for two reasons:
1. We wanted to focus more on the platform part of the game, so precision and agility should be the main type of challenge.
2. I've played Quadrilateral Cowboy (a great game btw) and it has this type of mechanic but I didn't want to use it in Type 'n Jump. Even though I like the concept, it gets complicated really fast for my taste and I would have to wrap my head around to create interesting level designs. Due to the time restraints, we decided to take a more conservative approach, with something we had more experience, in favor of quality.
Thank you very much for playing our game and taking your time to leave us a feedback, we really appreciate it! We hope you had fun during your playtime! Btw, take a look at [Quadrilateral Cowboy](https://store.steampowered.com/app/240440/Quadrilateral_Cowboy/) if you don't know it, you are problably going to like it :)
@richard-n-silva Isn't @Bernardex's time 2:08? My current best time is 2:02 with 79 commands, which can be seen if you go to the end of the video.
The 2:02 time is shown in the video thumbnail, but the video starts with my prior time showing.
@eToThePi-i Oops, sorry, I saw the opening frame on your video but forgot to check the end of it! Sorry about the mistake, fixing it right now!
Really cool idea and really nice game. I have nothing more to say ^^'.
@richard-n-silva Oh, I may have misread your earlier comment; you said you *found* the bug, but I guess it's not updated yet, since the Windows executable is still the same my current one.
If you update the game, can you upload the changes to your BitBucket repository? I was thinking about compiling my own build.
I just had to come back to this game and try to speedrun it a bit

@Kanacell Thanks for the feedback! We hope you had fun playing our game!
@eToThePi-i It should be fixed now :)
@lexi Hey, that's amazing! I see you have posted a new screenshot at the post we made with 70 commands in 01:42. Can you post it here too?
@Richard N Silva Sure thing. Here it is. (As others have mentioned a RESET command would be really helpful for speed running, but I'm sure you're aware of that already :) )

Very cool game! I enjoyed playing it! Thank you for making this game!
I LOVE THIS GAME! I think this is one of the best game I played on this Ludum Dare. I love the pixel graphics and the audio. The idea and the concept was good but the execution was even better. Overall great job on this game! Keep making games.
Awesome game. :) I really enjoyed the nice combo. Honestly, there's nothing I can add to the positive feedback that's been left here already, and even less to add to the negative. Great job!
Very very original idea! I love this game, it's very challenging! The level is well calibrated: the obstacles are well positioned according to the possibility to type the commands. I like the pixel art graphics of this game, expecially the robot animations! A very little negative point for the soundtrack, that in my opinion is too repetitive, but despite that it's an excellent work!
@lexi Blows my score right out of the water. Very nice! We'll see if I can beat it... I have some ideas, but you may have optimized it past my meager speedrunning abilities (or my typing abilities).
@mrerdalural @Kristian-David @Apace @mic-matrix91 Thank you for all the feedbacks, we really appreciate it! We hope you had fun playing our game!
@eToThePi-i The challenge is on, keep it up! Let me know if you manage to do it! Good luck and thank you for your support :)
I've never panicked so much just trying to type "STOP"
Great game, great concept, great execution, wow, I really loved it! I'd love to see some secret commands tho. I tried to speedrun it typing "WIN" but didn't work :(
Congrats! Awesome game!
brilliant! oh man... This is a touch game. VERY polished and well done. My only suggestion is to add arrows. Perhaps do something like a CommandPrompt where you press up and it shows you your last command? Again, Great game. Great job xD
@richard-n-silva I have two new runs, which will put me in the top for time and second-best for commands:

@lexi Your turn! :smiley:
@elHombreBanana @Ratherjolly Thanks for the feedbacks! We hope you guys enjoyed our game! :)
@eToThePi-i Wow, you nailed it again! I've just updated the world records. Very interesting strategies! Congratulations again!
@richard-n-silva I notice that you posted the update to a new url https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/type-n-jump/type-n-jump-world-record-update-1 (note the suffix "`-1`"), instead of updating the old one: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/type-n-jump/type-n-jump-world-record-update. Was that intentional?
@eToThePi-i Yes, it is intentional in order to mantain the registry of the older posts and also because Ludum Dare posts feed is quite non-user friendly, so it's easier to create a new post to spread the news to other people :)
This is pure class, I'm going to return to this. As others have said, one way to really push this game to the next level would be to throw in some non-obvious and maybe context sensitive commands that reward players for experimenting.
Nice little game. Well done for it.
This was really fun! Like others have said, having some context sensitive commands would be really neat.
great, i had fun!
very hard, but a lot of fun. well done!
I'll tell you one thing, I'm never going to misspell "jump" ever again! Haha that was too much fun. Very impressed ya'll did this in a single weekend. Perfect ratings from me!

Very fun, good job! The only critism I have except that the audio is very repetitive is that I don't understand why typing "jumo" passes as jump, but "juml" or anything else doesn't. Plz explain.
When I typed stop to stop before I read the instruction, I felt clever! If you continue to develop this, when I typed Jump, Jump, Jump, Jump, Jump, Jump, Jump, I felt repetitive.
@goffmog @Corbak @Flatterp @celmer89 @tamara188 @Gizmolo Thanks for the feedbacks! We hope you had fun playing our game :)
@flying-cat-of-the-pepes Thanks for the feedback! Regarding your question, we added a small list of the most frequent typos we had during our game test but some variations may have gone undetected by our checking due to the jam deadline pressure :)
@Ethan-Kennerly Thanks for the feedback! We are still figuring our next steps, we'll see how it goes :) We hope you had fun during your play session!
Lovely platform game! I was glad to see that you guys thought of adding 'Jump Left/Right' as well, because I was having a hard time without that. And then the game taught me :)
The game is very well executed, aesthetically consistent and fun! I'm not sure how non-good type will feel about it, but for me it was pretty fun. Errors can be really disencouraging though, so maybe have some friendly checkpoints would help a lot.
Congratulations for the great entry, I see it getting a good position.
One of the best entries I've played so far! Over the last few LD's I've actually started seeing quite a few of these action games with text-based input which is a really interesting concept.
As a seasoned terminal user I do wish I'd been able to press the up arrow to get at my most recently used command(s) without retyping tho. c;
Overall really solid, polished and finished. Gameplay, graphics, audio... It's all there. Of course it seems some of the commands were newer additions not originally there? Guess maybe I played a somewhat improved version? Nonetheless!
Great music and sounds. My only complaint is the mixing. The music was very low compared to the effects and after decreasing the volume to a level where the sound effects felt good, I could hardly hear the music. :c
I've really got nothing else to comment on. Again, it's a really solid entry and the only thing I'd add is more levels, and of course we all know how little time there is for content in a jam. I'm always impressed by the few people who somehow manage to produce a lot of it. :p Really nice work!
Awesome game. The fact that jmup works instead of jump shows you know what you're doing. hehe
My only grip: Some parts demanded typing way too fast (jump jump after the first "fire", or jump stop jump), which leads to frustration, since the ckeckpoint was a little far.
That said, very great game! Congrats a lot!
Do you have easter eggs in it?
You really nailed the "juice" on this one. For a platformer character that you have to direct inputs to, it feels surprisingly good! As someone else said, it's also a nice touch that "Jump" pretty much does exactly what you want it to do every time.
Nice game. This game got me to think why those educational type-training programs isn't made like this :)
@glimaleite Obrigado pelos feedbacks! Deixei minhas impressões no seu jogo também :) Abraços do sul do Brasil!
@Ava-Skoog Thanks for the feedbacks! Indeed, we added some new commands post-jam (Turn, Jump Right, Jump Left) due to several feedbacks :) Regarding the audio, that's where we had most trouble, since neither me or Eduardo (the game programmer) have experience with sound design, so we had to improvise and the end result wasn't as satisfying as we wanted it to be. We totally agree with you.
@MestreRothLD Thanks for the feedback! We wanted to add easter eggs like typing "Finish" to finish the level or jokes whenever the player typed "bad words" but the time was against us and we didn't manage to fit them on our schedule :)
@maysick @Merlin-d Thanks for the feedback! We hope you guys enjoyed playing our game :)
