LD38 — A Small World

Chunk World by TheSand 2017-05-01T08:43:37Z

I like that you just had 25 hours and decided to make something like this. To even be able to decide the size of the world was amazing. I didnt really find something unexpected though, which by no means is something bad. I had fun playing and running around. I somehow managed to get my wood counter to -40. So I guess I got a loan somewhere ^^ To sum it up: I had fun and thats it what is important to me.

Insula Umbrarum by IDid 2017-05-01T11:52:01Z

This game is fun to play. The levels are short (the ones I played at least) and that keeps things interesting and new. The tools are interesting although the drill is a bit to loud and the audio of it keeps getting stuck while I interact with someone. Besides that I liked the experience.

Near kingdoms by Hadik 2017-05-01T19:16:51Z

First things first: I had to play on easy to win a round... But besides that I really liked the artstyle. The sounds were good a some kind of backgroundmusic would have made it perfect. The fact that trees seem to spawn at random makes me feel like I could easily get the disadvantage, but maybe that was on purpose. I really like this game. I am somehow really attached to those soulless peasants... I mean to my highly trained workers... Yeah, thats what I meant...

The World Repeats by GameQuester 2017-05-01T08:54:11Z

The idea of a looping world is pretty awesome. In 2D it is even better then in 3D. At first I wasnt really playing it correctly. I just jumped around and watered some stuff. I died because I didnt lived healthy enough. I hope that will just happen ingame ^^ Second time I played I knew what I was doing. I still died due to my unhealthieness. To sum it up: I am a bad survivor ^^

I just have one question: Why can I only get health by eating meat? Dont get this wrong I am not a vegetarian or something like that, I am just curious because I never had enough animals around. Did I extinct them by accident? If so... Never give me an axe again...

S P A C E C H U N K by nonameghost 2017-05-01T08:03:37Z

The idea with the console was pretty nice, but I have to say it is annoying when the screen moves while typing in the console just because you want to press a already binded key. There is not much to this game right now but I can clearly see what there would be and I am sure that would be a lot of fun. I really like the idea of not having direct impact on controlling something like in most other RTS games. The style was brilliant and I didnt even know that Bill Nye the Science Guy would play your game :D (And just between the both of us, I can just do blocks as well)

Globey's Revenge by gamesplusjames 2017-05-01T11:40:27Z

I like the artstyle you chose and the backgroundmusic. It somehow fits the idea of a planet rolling around the stage and I dont even know how that is possible. The movement feels good most of the time except rolling downhills and going into a loop. When entering a loop I had to release all buttons or just stop at the top of it. I always fell downhill (maybe I am just not controlling it the right way). Besides that, as I already mentioned, it really looks great. A lot of work must have gone into the Sprites and stuff like that. I really appreciate your work here.

In Good Hands by simple-blue 2017-05-01T06:59:17Z

I really like the idea of not having direct impact on something. Using the meteors by rotationg the planet is a pretty good idea. I dont think I could play this for too long, but the time I played it it was fun.

Hypercube by county-agent 2017-04-28T13:23:31Z

I really liked the game. It was fun exploring the world and to figure out what even to do. The first time I used one of the small teleportation rooms I wasnt sure what happened. But after some time I understod the idea. The only really challenging part was finding the apple. The jumparc was a bit weird. I guess because you dont really need to jump anyways (except to jump out of a hole), but it just felt weird to jump, if you got happy because you finally found the apple. I liked the sounddesign and the art, it was simplistic but I really love that kind of style.

Holy Shit! A Spider !!! by Aurelien 2017-05-01T10:47:12Z

This game is amazing. It looks like a mobile game, sort of. The flow is pretty nice because you dont have to reset or even press a button. You die and restart so fast. I mostly died due to greediness. There is just one thing I want to know: Every second time or so the game nearly froze when the finger stomped to the table. Is that a known issue? Or is that just my internet connection? Besides that: It was fun :)

"It's a small world!" by szczebel1995 2017-05-01T08:32:00Z

The idea of being a dino that convinces people to have a cup of coffee already sounds funny. The game really has a nice idea and the integration of "a small world" was pretty funny. But I have to say it is sometimes pretty hard to avoid people without stepping on the street and getting hit by a car. The hints at the beginning were helpfull, but I still didnt really found the target in level 3. The music and visuals worked great together. The dino character was pretty cute.

Blocknauts! by EndlessPlumber 2017-05-01T07:35:59Z

I really enjoyed the game. The visuals and the sound really brought the world together. It was fun flying around and picking up pieces of your ship. As already mentioned by other people, the camera controls are pretty weird. It is hard to rotate around a local axis. Flying in space would be even more fun when I could controll the direction and not just taking a weird turn and then heading somewhere near the target. Besides that I did not really find something I could complain about. It was a fun little experience.

Paper Jam! by danhett 2017-05-01T07:11:06Z

I like the idea and the art. It looks fantastic and the audio is nice as well. The hitboxes are a bit weird and the fact that you sometimes cant see where you land was a bit frustrating. But all in all it was a nice experience and the goals were sometimes challenging to get to.

Small Town by Zerbroesler 2017-04-24T18:07:37Z

I really liked the idea of building houses. I played until I had like 150000 points, but then I realized, that I had other stuff to do. It was fun, but when I tried to build a house and clicked on an existing house nothing happend, except that I lost a placable house. Also it is very weird that there is no sound. But as I said, I liked the idea

Colorfly by Zelos 2017-05-01T11:33:33Z

I like the visuals and the audio of this game. It really creates a nice and lovely atmosphere. Flying around, building stuff at trees, being a butterfly. It all just comes together so well. The only downside is a bug in the second stage. I flew left for a second and got stuck outside of the screen. I couldnt go back and after trying to escape I lost track of myself and got lost. Besides that: Great job

4 Hours by Christian Koch 2017-05-01T10:39:03Z

Hello Aurelien, I added a version where every level should be unlocked. Try it out if you feel like it :) I get your question. I thought about it myself. In level 4 you have blocks which are kind of using this idea of switching your power, but maybe it would have worked with using different buttons aswell. Different topic: Thank you all for your comments and (hopefully) ratings. I really appreciate it. I wasnt sure about my game, because this is my first jam after all. But it feels good to get some feedback and to hear that things I thought was garbage and should be fixed are not important at all and that the idea was more important. So again: Thank you :)

4 Hours by Christian Koch 2017-05-01T11:59:50Z

Hello Jamesy, thanks for your feedback. Could you please tell me at which stage the objects werent moving after pressing E? Thanks. I really aprecciate that you took some time to comment here :)

4 Hours by Christian Koch 2017-05-01T12:16:33Z

Hello Palemachine. I planned on doing something like a highscore system for beating the levels. But in the end I ended up having some issues with the controls (which I didnt get fixed properly). I thought it would at least be nice to keep the timer so everyone could see how fast they were

4 Hours by Christian Koch 2017-05-02T11:37:52Z

@Neato

Hello Neato, I hear this question more often then I thought I would do. The reason for that may sound a bit weird. I planned on using the function of the Q button for some Puzzles. But in the end I did not build such a puzzle (due to time problems and some design aspects). After that I thought it would be a bit easier if you just (basicly) have 3 buttons where two of them perform the same action for each power and the third switches them out (sounds easier then having 4 buttons to me, but I guess I was wrong about that, maybe I could have reduced it to 2 buttons). If it is hard for anyone to figure it out, then I am sorry but while I playtested the game it seemed pretty fine. It is a good thing to get this kind of feedback.

Spermicorn by Fanu 2017-05-01T09:16:14Z

This game does not stand out by its gameplay. It stands out by llama love ( = good music and funny commenting). I enjoyed it. All of it. I can not say much about it, because it just is what it is trying to be. Short, weird and fun. Good job

My little planet by mindtricks 2017-05-01T09:05:42Z

A god simulation is always tough. Black and White 2 tried and in the end it was just a RTS game. This is a pretty funny attempt. For my taste there could have been more consequences or stuff that could happen on random. But I see where you were going with this. The fact that I destroyed the planets after making it to a paradise was pretty insane. I really liked that. My only really complain is the music which nearly made me insane. Not so much because of the music itself but because it started playing twice after I restarted the HTML5 version. Except that I had fun.

Force of Nature by spelos 2017-05-01T08:18:24Z

The game itself has a pretty calm audio and the characters are pretty cute. But why do they not obey? I had like 200-300 wood before they listened to the almighty wave and earthquake master and started to go to the stone. The wind push hasnt helped. I tried to push them into the stone but they just started walking to the tree instead. I then got mad and earthquaked them a lot. Then they understod. I had a fun and relaxing experience. And just two people died due to Cthulhu (or however he is spelled). So, yeah, that was fun.

Trapped Robot by Richard Weug 2017-05-01T07:51:13Z

I really liked the mechanics of this one. The idea of using the mouse instead of the keyboard was a good way to make the player feel a bit helpless. To have no direct impact on the players position killed me more often then I wanted it to. But I have to say, you really like stepping up the difficulty. I play hard games (like Dark Souls) for fun, but this was insane. Dont get me wrong I really liked that. The only thing really missing is audio. I wish there would be a sound for exploding or respawning or at least some background music. That would have really made this a great experience. But all in all a nice little (and hard) fun game

DLTW - Don't Let Them Win by SleP 2017-05-01T07:54:01Z

I really like the screenshots, but when I try to download it my computer seems to think that it is some sort of textfile. Am I making something wrong?

A Walk To The Finish Line by jk5000 2017-12-04T20:57:37Z

Cool game, I like the gameplay. I normally dont really like puzzle games, but this one is ok

Game of Virus by Kolbjorn 2017-12-04T21:36:47Z

Some time ago I programmed Convays game of life myself and it was fun. But this is even better. I like the idea of first isolating it, which is actually work and then getting rewarded with destroying it. That felt so good. "stuck in own matter", yeah I felt that too, but only tapping the mouse worked fine. To sum it up: Great entry :)

Heroic by Christian Koch 2017-12-04T20:42:20Z

Hello jk5000, Thanks for the feedback and I totally agree. I was thinking about not publishing it, because the polish was pretty bad. Both I and my artist had hard time constraints, but we still tried to keep our goal of making a simple RPG. Next time the idea will be a bit more simple, that should do the trick :D

Heroic by Christian Koch 2017-12-04T21:12:33Z

Thanks Kolbjorn, That really means a lot to me. I was nearly screaming out of anger, because the game wasnt finished, but reading your comment calmed me down. Thank you :)

Surviving Christmas by JohnnyO 2017-12-05T14:29:51Z

I never thought that I would get mad seeing presents falling from the sky. But wow :D This game is fun. I really liked the idea, although the snow allowed me some cheap victories :D Keep it up :)

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Crystal Library by Goplite 2018-04-28T14:27:50Z

I dont know why it had to be a crystal monster, but it made things really interesting. The overall mood of this game was pretty good. I felt unsettled when the monster entered the room or spotted me. I am not sure on how good this matches the theme though. It just felt like a good idea (and I interpreted the theme as: make something weird out of 2 themes). But that maybe just shows how wrong I was about that. I liked your game, it was a nice one

TwoForOne by Christian Koch 2018-04-28T18:18:07Z

Hello @TheMonsterFromTheDeep and @Alex13, I thought about implementing a way to change controlls (I have some old scripts for that). But as stated above: I only had 5 hours. That would have taken some time. Still I am sorry for that.

TwoForOne by Christian Koch 2018-04-28T21:10:36Z

@kack3y Hello kackey, thanks for the comment/review. I get that it was hard, I am still not that good at balancing stuff (maybe I should have asked someone to playtest it for me :D).I am glad you liked it, though.

TwoForOne by Christian Koch 2018-04-29T12:44:12Z

@honey Hello honey, thanks for the short comment. I get that. I will remember it for the next time :)

TwoForOne by Christian Koch 2018-04-29T17:33:02Z

@honey sorry if "short" sounded mean. I did not mean it in that way. I am happy for every letter someone writes for me :D Thanks for this update I really appreciate it :)

TwoForOne by Christian Koch 2018-04-29T18:26:08Z

@Annie-Owl Hello Annie, thanks for the comment. There is no audio in the game. I thought I excluded my game already, but seems like I missed that. Thanks for the information :)

Yum Some!! by frostByte4k 2018-04-28T13:57:10Z

Thanks, now I am hungry AND cant get past the bacon :D I like the idea of a food rage game. It made me a bit angry and dead inside... but thats the rage part, right? And as I already stated: the game made me hungry so it must be a masterpiece. Because thats how games work, right?

Peculiar Adventures of Dorothy Hops by detectiveLosos 2018-04-28T13:52:06Z

I always liked endless-runners for some reason. They have something peacefull. But not this one. I died several times, because I tried reading the text. Is that a bad thing? No. I loved it. It was so much fun trying to read text and jump. I survived quite a timespan at the end. The only thing I did not like was the fact, that when I died near to an edge I respawned at the edge and couldnt jump until my character ran into the water and died again. That was really frustrating. And why is it that a lot of encounters just cost me some health? I had no sweet role and nearly died because of it. But in the end I had fun. And thats all that counts. Nice entry

Type n' Jump by Richard N Silva 2018-04-28T13:43:41Z

I liked the concept, the music and the artstyle. It all was very well done. The theme of this jam was to combine two things, that would normally not be seen together. I can imagine why this type of game isnt very prominent :D I like to have controll while playing a platformer and although I beat this game (in something like 8 minutes!) it was just very hard for me to play it because it was that hard to controll. Dont get me wrong, as stated before: it was the theme, so its ok, but I got really frustrated very fast :D Nice job, hope your next game will be as good as this one

Tour de Arizona by honey 2018-04-28T14:03:04Z

I played this game for something like 2 minutes (the html5 version) I just couldnt continue because my fingers started hurting. I also encountered a glitch where some of the enemies floated in the air after shoting them. Besides those two thing: I liked the idea and the game itself. It was fun and I even made it to 2 points! (give me this victory... I need it... ^^). The music and visuals really worked well and the idea itself was really funny. Nice entry
