I got 1035 points

pantsuman 2017-04-25 04:45

I got about 700 points. Really nice game. It's quick to get into and immediately fun and addicting.

larwick 2017-04-25 06:51

Damn that newspaper!

psychopsam 2017-04-25 08:49

What a great game. Saving the spider with space was a bit weird, as it ran off and I had a small spider again? But I did keep more score. Nice work. You should put this on mobile. I got 420

nhidares 2017-04-25 11:33

very funny and addicting game! I especially like the dialog :D

ckiwi 2017-04-25 20:59

Lots of fun to play. You made this all on your own!?

skippuku 2017-04-30 22:52

I got 687. Very fun once I got to medium difficulty, but no amount of spider propaganda can make me love these things.

john-holden 2017-05-01 05:08

I really liked your game, it definitely had a different tone to it. I especially likes the voices that would come in and chime in about something. They definitely made the whole experience more enjoyable. I did think the saving the spider part was a bit weird, but besides that, the game had a really nice idea and was executed really well.

jeremy-ryan 2017-05-01 05:20

Must play with audio. 12/10. I like the variety of obstacles and a lot of the visual effects... the table shaking, spray can particles, etc.

Also appreciate that you don't inevitably die, you can save your big spiders.

Very well done!

slimabob 2017-05-01 05:39

Hahaha well done! The audio is great, and I absolutely love how frantic the game gets once you make it to normal difficulty!

burgee 2017-05-01 05:46

This game gets super hectic as it goes! Personally, hating spiders like I do, I found myself rooting for the human, but I did my best to protect the spider.

It's funny how tunnel vision-ed it made me get though trying to avoid everything. I think this is one of the most intense-kind-of-fun games I've played so far tonight out of the 12 or 15 I've checked out so far!

vkmicro 2017-05-01 05:49

I admire spiders...but at the same time I fear them and wish to stay away from them and sadly this game didn't change that. First impression I had of this game - hahahaha I love the voice - HOLY SHIT! A SPIDER!! hahah that was such a cool intro! I loved the voice over narration? or just background talking? not sure how to call it but it was really cool. Sound effects are awesome and perfectly fitting. The variety of obstacles / things trying to kill you mae it really fun and challenging (i didn't notice the newspapers fir 2 times.....) gameplay is as straight forward as it gets, avoid things that try to kill you and eat things XD Very fun and entertaining game to play, very good graphics and sound effects. I also give the voice actors a credit for the hilarious background talking and hilarious dialogues. My favorite dialogue part was- "Why all this violence? what did it do to you? ~ IT EXISTS!!!!" hahahaha :D pretty much reaction of every person everto a spider xD or, mostly everyone. Overall really cool and fun to play game, loved it! p.s. it's definitely worth mentioning the extra attention to details such as the shaking of the table and the spray effect

aurelien 2017-05-01 06:29

Yes! I definitely don't regret having added those little audio jokes in the last hours of the jam :p You guys seems to like it. I'll definitely keep that in mind for my next games, it was also really fun to record! Thank you for the feedbacks people, I want mooooore :D

danbolt 2017-05-01 07:37

"Can you help me instead of cheering?!?" "Sorry man, I'm vegan."

I love the banter between the two characters. Putting a light on each piece of meat was really smart as well, or it helped me quickly find them with all the details as the game progressed.

I frequently underestimated the length of the newspaper, and often got squished from that, rather than my size, which was a little frustrating, but I was also probably being a bit too risky.

Overall, a really strong entry. Good work!

lilroo 2017-05-01 10:24

YES. THIS IS AMAZING

ikigaiseitetsu 2017-05-01 10:32

Got ~850 points. :]

Very fluent gameplay! Rather than the audio part, I love the design most, for the game would lose lots of fun without the score-multiplier and the progress saving (by pressing space). I feel trapped into a dilemma between pressing space and not pressing when the spider gets bigger, and it's really funny to see my choice turn out to be better or not. :D

sagarpatel25700 2017-05-01 10:36

- I have played like 25 game of ludumdare 38 but this one was best from all the game that i have played. - Gameplay is so awesome that player has to play again and again - grphics is very good - i was able to make 231 score played like 15 times

christian-koch 2017-05-01 10:47

This game is amazing. It looks like a mobile game, sort of. The flow is pretty nice because you dont have to reset or even press a button. You die and restart so fast. I mostly died due to greediness. There is just one thing I want to know: Every second time or so the game nearly froze when the finger stomped to the table. Is that a known issue? Or is that just my internet connection? Besides that: It was fun :)

chloravirgo 2017-05-01 10:47

Don't know, why you outed yourself of the Audio category, but it's amazing and hilarious. I like this game!

iak 2017-05-01 10:54

Decent graphics, fun gameplay, silly voice commentary. Jup, I like. Only my new spiders after hitting space would always get squished before I could move them oO think I wasn't very lucky there...

zarkonnen 2017-05-01 11:35

Best narration since The Stanley Parable, really. And yeah, why no audio category? I'd have given 5/5.

janiq 2017-05-01 11:50

Very nice. You should enable spider to go on the newspaper while on the table and get it catapulted away :-)

togis 2017-05-01 11:56

A very cool and challenging simple game. I only got about 750 ish point, but only because of some bugs that helped me.

I really enjoyed your friend voice acting hehe, it added a lot of personality on the game.

The only thing I would suggest is to have the multiplayer visibile on the interface to show the consequence of "saving the spider".

Very good game! Congrats!

(You can see me playing this game for the first time on the vod https://youtu.be/ov_ysaa5zlQ?t=8m54s )

jojocanard 2017-05-01 12:01

Great audio, fun mood and "narration" (?). Fine graphics and nice gameplay. The saving spider idea is smart.

I am looking for something bad to say but not finding it

I reached 276 points. No I am not ashamed at all, I proudly defended the spider people.

radmccool 2017-05-01 13:59

This is horrible spider propaganda spread to promote the feeding of spiders. Fun game, as others have said the commentary really adds to the experience. Theres nice variety in threats to the spider. The sound effects are good. Only disappointing thing was seeing the better scores after i tried so hard :sob:

lipsch 2017-05-01 15:26

Really fun to play (: Love the Sounds. They added something personal to the game. The sound also boosted the athmosphere.

camilo 2017-05-01 16:07

I laughed a lot with the voice lines hahahaha "What did they do to you?" "THEY EXIST!!"

I hate spiders and I felt quite identified with some of the dialogues. But I liked your game!

Congrats!

wheerd 2017-05-01 18:12

The sound commentary is a really nice touch  A nice little game, easy to get the concept but hard to master. The graphics and sound are really nice. The only downside is that the loading takes quite long (probably because of all the audio comments). I really suck at these kind of games, only got a score <200 :worried: Overally, the game is fun to play and quite polished. Well done!

aurelien 2017-05-01 19:33

@ikigaiseitetsu Yes! The multiplier is also what I like the most. That's why it's a shame I didn't explain it more clearly in the game. It's really about the dilemna! Glad you like it as I do

@sagarpatel25700 Thanks a lot! Always cool to see that people find it good

@christian-koch The freezes happens only with the WebGL version. I'm really new at all that so I don't know where it comes from. You can still try the downloadable version if it's really not playable :p Thanks for your comment.

@chloravirgo and @zarkonnen I outted myself from audio because the sounds and music, except the voices, are not from me. Since it plays a lot in the mood of the game, I didn't want to take the room against people that made everything themselves.(And this is often very impressive)

And comparing my game with The Stanley Parable is a little bit too much  (I LOVE that game)

@camilo "I hate spiders"... oh no! my spider ~~propaganda~~ game is not working at changing mind as it should! Glad you liked the lines :p

vivoubos 2017-05-01 21:34

Haha funny game!! When people talk :') Simply and audio is fun! Good work

pkenney 2017-05-02 03:59

Wow, this is awesome!

It's very well put together, doing everything nicely, from sound, music and graphics/animation to tight controls and wisely placed hitboxes. Best of all was the clever way the difficulty escalated and the risk/reward tradeoff that kept a very tense feeling the whole way through.

My high score was 2397, and I was being SUPER greedy by the end to get there. I used two or at most three spiders to get there.

There's almost nothing to complain about in this game because all the details were right. I had just one small bad moment, the first time I saved my spider, there was a spraying can and my new small spider spawned and auto-walked right into the spray and died immediately, which felt unfair.

I've got to say again what a nice balance there is in the risk/reward from the multiplier vs the danger of a large size. Strong design choice that made the game.

Excellent entry.

EDIT: Voice lines were good but I agree w opting out of sound given music and effects were not original, but still good choice/usage.

aurelien 2017-05-02 04:53

@pkenney Thank you for your comment!

Congratulations, I think you are the first to beat the dev high-score (2000), well done! Now I want to beat that :p

I'm aware of that bug with the spraycan, I'm not sure if I'm allow to fix since the judging already started. I also don't have much time since I'm already working on a new game going out soon! (follow me on itch.io)

Thank you again for your very long and constructive comment

mooncalf 2017-05-04 03:25

Good job. Game played well and I had fun. Voiceover was funny the first play through but I would have liked to have been able to turn it off for subsequent plays.

Well done!

foya 2017-05-04 21:30

At first, I didn't understood exactly what I was supposed to do since the spider could't be killed or eat anything ( probably a bug? ). But once i finally got it, I spent a nice time and played a looot! The concept is simple but efficient, music is catchy and human's comments add a fun touch to the game! good job!

baby-dino-herd 2017-05-05 00:53

Really solid entry! Animation worked nicely to make full use of the humour, which really game into its own as the game progressed. :spider:

meaty-mclazerpantz 2017-05-05 14:15

Nice! The banter had me cracking up. Good job!

patrick 2017-05-06 03:05

I really enjoyed this game. The audio was great. Being a spider was amusing. I did like the saving mechanism. I do wish that I could move all the way left.

chaseplays 2017-05-08 00:59

Good job, especially for only starting game dev 3 weeks ago. The controls all felt tight and good, and I liked the game a lot!

lancescaterpie 2017-05-08 20:27

The game loop was great, as soon you die, you are put straight back in making for a great game loop. The dialogue almost works really well but to me it seemed a bit forced or cringy in places. Overall good game and I'm glad I found it!

takusan 2017-05-09 17:20

Okay, this was indeed funny :)

One issue right off the bat - no matter when exactly I squished space to save the spider, the small one marched right into the spray and died before I regained control of it (i.e. before arrows were responsive). That feels a tad unfair :)

That being said, as @lancescaterpie noted, basically seamless game loop is awesome. Whole idea is fun, and besides that issue I had with ...respawn? Dunno how to exactly call it :) the rest plays well and responds as intended.

Not much more to say actually, game is good as it is. Maybe with some more polish on the graphics/UI front it could be a quite good commercial game - for mobile, for example? I'm curious to see how it will develop further :)

Cheers!

richard-michael-smith 2017-05-09 18:26

It's about time someone tried to redress the balance and present spiders as the victim!

Just thinking out loud: you could add more challenges such as: a glass could come down and trap you then, you have a tiny window of opportunity to escape when they try and slide a piece of card underneath the glass!

The voice samples were amusing too but I had to turn them down due to the proximity of children!

Excellent work.

aurelien 2017-05-10 08:26

Thank you all for the feedback. I have a pretty good idea of what works and what doesn't in my game now :p I also think the seamless gameplay loop is really important in my game. ( I tried first with a "game over" screen, it was not working. @richard-michael-smith That's funny, I had EXACTLY this idea. But didn't had time to implement it. The animation would have not been easy to do for that also.

potatolain 2017-05-10 22:23

This is great - especially if you're really new to making games. You've already got enough comments explaining what worked and what didn't, so I won't repeat all of it, but this was a really fun game. I only got to around 700 points but I enjoyed getting there. (Those spray cans just wrecked me every time...)

The design was good, the idea was clever... the added audio was pretty funny. (Esp the intro) Well done!

2017-05-17 11:53

Nice graphics, funny audio! I included it in my Ludum Dare 38 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZ-D40BBNhA
