LD38 — A Small World

Ionnect by AkirAssasin 2017-05-01T09:10:11Z

Nice puzzle game :] But to be honest i feel a bit bored when every stage demands to complete one or more _[Cr2][O7] (2-)s after stage 10 :<. Can't find joy doing it over and over so I stopped at stage 13. Love the graphics and the idea, and I find the process to complete puzzles interesting, but imo the game needs better level-design...

Ruined Topology by jebouin 2017-05-01T07:39:42Z

Got 11 coins; I have no idea how to get the 4 coins which are not on standable areas... Great game! Especially love the music, the animation and the level design parts!

Throw by somethinboutgames 2017-05-01T14:12:00Z

Easy and fun! Though I take 3 tries to start the game (in the opening screen), once I master the skill to figure out the tracks, the game becomes very relax to me.

Love the design of level 5 and level 8.

Picopix Puzzle by Topper 2017-05-01T13:58:03Z

Nice Sokoban game :D

The last level is fun with the ice-like pixels. Good design!

I wonder if the game will be even better with some audio?

May I Come In? by IkigaiSeitetsu 2017-05-01T13:44:21Z

@mindtricks, @Samurai-Spark Thank you for playing and your feedback!

@Aurelien : Hiding the HP number when one citizen is overlapped by another is intentional, but I didn't realize the colour of the numbers makes them hard to read until now. :O Thank you for pointing this out.

@Porcus-Pie : Yes, you are right. This is a flaw :X there should be indications, but we got too busy and tired during the last hours before the submission so we forgot to put them on... I would gonna fix it in the post-jam version if there is going to be one.

May I Come In? by IkigaiSeitetsu 2017-05-02T14:10:42Z

@anayk, Thank you for playing and feedback!

@kavehes : 100 will be too hard, you can try for a 40 or a 50... I made it to a 55 yesterday.

We settled 100 because there are theoretically 120 slots around all of the stations; we underestimated how hard the drag-and-dropping turned out to be.

The original idea was to make a citizen able to "teleport" to any destination, but during the last hours we kept feeling it strange so changed the movement into a "delayed" style, causing the challenge goal hard to achieve. :O

Holy Shit! A Spider !!! by Aurelien 2017-05-01T10:32:29Z

Got ~850 points. :]

Very fluent gameplay! Rather than the audio part, I love the design most, for the game would lose lots of fun without the score-multiplier and the progress saving (by pressing space). I feel trapped into a dilemma between pressing space and not pressing when the spider gets bigger, and it's really funny to see my choice turn out to be better or not. :D

Retro Rabbit by wtoa 2017-05-01T09:50:41Z

The gameplay is awesome and addictive! I got a 93930 and 01:26 :P Love the music part most. :D

Island Guard by AnayK 2017-05-01T05:09:49Z

I got 2540 :D

Pros: I think it was addictive when i got busy clicking mouse button rapidly and watching out for the direction where the enemy came at the same time :} I like the idea most that the island gets smaller when attacked.

Cons: The first time when I opened the game I thought it was frozen :( as it showed no response like a background music or a graphic effect to tell the player the game had started, until the player aware of the first enemy.

Please rate my game: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/may-i-come-in

A I R by NykolaR 2017-05-01T06:58:08Z

Nice game ;)

I think I didn't reach the end of the game. Landed on the planet 3, but accidentally warped back to planet 2, found that the rings didn't appear again so the sight range limited, couldn't find way to planet 3 again.

Pros: - The background music fits perfectly. - Graphics are awesome. - Mood: great

Cons: - It made me confused when I trying to warp from a planet to another, because the destination planet could be completely blocked out by the current planet's view. - Movement of the bird seems a bit wierd imo.

Daily Routine: the smallest worlds are the ones we get stuck in by Samurai Spark 2017-05-01T11:54:48Z

I love the way it conveys the theme! I haven't realized what this game was about before I scored -400 in the football minigame with a 'FANTASTIC'... These details are great!

My Dragon, Don't Munch!! by IkigaiSeitetsu 2017-12-06T11:56:29Z

@ponchoguy Thanks for your feedback! :D Added your suggestion to the coming-soon list. 100 thousands seems a great score for me! But this doesn't beat the staff's high score. You can try harder lol

My Dragon, Don't Munch!! by IkigaiSeitetsu 2017-12-06T13:56:49Z

@Jay2645 Thank you for your suggestions! I too think it would be good to add a button for the dialogs, added this to the coming-soon list. However the resolution problem is hard to fix because the coding and level design was based on that 800x600 viewport... Yes it is kinda upset to say we can't do this, sorry.

Rokku Bando by Yanrishatum 2017-12-07T09:34:22Z

Love the graphics, but the level seems a little repetitive... Anyway, nice game

Cloie Hell by Kerrigan 2017-12-07T06:08:10Z

It was confusing when I first start the game and hear a sound effect then die instantly, even not knowing there were bullets came around at the player position. For balancing the difficulty I think it is not a good idea placing that kind of bullets at the very first part of the game. And there should be plenty of time for the player to notice what is coming into play. Sound effects are good though.

LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Price of Power by Hilvon 2018-12-05T12:36:03Z

After going through the hard part, I just want to say this game is incredibly awesome.

TIM截图20181205193259.png

Actually the core is simple enough and easy to understand: Cards consume colored mana to be played; Cards provide colored manas when sacrificed aside; Summoning, attacking and healing need matched colors. After having figured these out, the gameplay ran fluent.

The biggest problem is not about the game mechanics. It is the lack of instructions and the poor information interface. The color thing (of the mana cost mecahanic) is well designed from the perspective of game rules, but very hard for players to master without a guide, and easy to confuse players since the color information doesn not come along with a concrete representation other than some simple numbers. It is actually acceptable because the tokens really help players aware of the mana they are arranging, but what makes it a mess is that colors are used to classify the attack targets as well, in which case there is also an HP number paired with the color. These two mechanics are distinct from each other so should not share a same method of representation. You may want to redesign them, for example use natural elements(water, fire, etc.) for the mana colors, and the positions in the battlefield(front, middle, back) for the target classes.

Ignoring these flaws, the rest parts of this game are gold. I don't think this game is as hard as the description suggests. Winning this game requires only simple maths and careful thoughts in my opinion. The card "Glass Cannon" is a bit overpowered because it is much defensive and the cost is low, but this doesn't affect the game balance too much. All of these cards are well designed and succeed to make this game enjoyable. Well done!

Sacrifiskeleton by IkigaiSeitetsu 2018-12-15T15:14:15Z

@ianlux @subtlydramatic Thank you so much for your encouragements ;v;

@tpamir @muffty Our team didn't place an in-between level, therefore the control of the level difficulty has been lost since, I suppose... ;-;||| Thank you for your feedbacks!

@purrseus It's really nice to hear that you like our game! I was not quite sure about whether I should insist on polishing their personalities, there being little time left before the submission hour... But these details render the 'sacrifice-and-move-on' idea quite well at last, which is a great relief. Thank you very much for your comment, it means a lot to us!! <3

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

That Time That Me And My Friends Got Stuck In A Time Dungeon by Alchemic 2020-10-07T10:24:04Z

QQ图片20201007173858.png

Finally killed a dragon after some tries, yay!

I like the background music and the character designs. Talking about the game mechanic, I like the idea, but find it hard to control the party members to attack the enemies in a way I expect. At the beginning I didn't know everyone attacks only when one steps on an orange circle (in the movement pattern). I was expecting one attacking once per turn. After figuring out the rules, I continued playing the game for some time and quite enjoyed it.

I think things a player would keep in mind are what range each unit's attack can reach and whether there is another unit blocking their way. However while the enemies are spawn randomly, the ranges party members' attack can reach is fixed after summoning, therefore the outcome is very unpredictable. I can pause a party member's actions but the enemies always keep going their pattern until blocked, so I feel there are few chances my party member could catch up the enemies to kill them. Also, the movement patterns and attack ranges are shown in separate graphs instead of on the field, resulting me need to try harder to calculate my predictions with no paper around. But once I got the hang, I really enjoyed the process of planning, thinking about what combinations of ranges would cover most of the field at any time.

After some plays I cheated a little: I placed no party members on the field and waiting for enemies flooded to an extent no one could move a step. Then I placed a party member. It killed several monsters in a row. In this way I could see more enemies and potentially kill more dragons maybe.

During my tries I needed to spam space bar quite crazily to go more turns. Auto or skipping turns until party member taking damage will be a good idea in my opinion.

The game is still good, just need more polished and balanced.

Speedy Spider VS Fishy Fish by gaspard 2020-10-07T20:02:45Z

Didn't beat the game, the farthest I went is to about 40% HP of the Fish remaining, but I really enjoyed it.

The intro and game over animations are really impressive. The mechanic is simple but very interesting to play: Nearer you are to the Fish leads to higher risk and difficulty. The lilypads add so much variation to the gameplay. Well done making such a brilliant one-button game! I also like the details everywhere. The signal circle expanded from the Fish when it is about to bash is really nice for the gameplay experience. Layers of the background music varies depending on the game state and the distance between the Spider and the Fish, which is even better. The character designs and the animation of the Fish are superb, but I don't think the animation of the Spider is as good. Maybe because it is not as smooth as other visual elements in the game. It is very tricky to hit multiple bullets in a row, otherwise only one bullet can hit per round. I think the game is a bit harder than the level I could beat.

Overall although there are some minor flaws in my opinion, I still enjoyed the game very much. Congrats!

Ouroboros Chess by IkigaiSeitetsu 2020-10-07T18:07:49Z

Thank you everyone for playing my game <3

@willoxs @tino Look forward to your re-rating :3

@willoxs Glad to see you like the soundtrack lol, I quickly made it for about 30 min, in the last few hours before packing the game.

@wevel @mycosil I came up with the mechanics after I settled down on an "Ouroboros" theme. It was really a tense one to make the game design solid enough to play plus program it into a fully playable demo on the first day. I agree it has not as much complexity as Chess, but I still need to thank you for your liking on the mechanics.

In some way I named this game wrong since it doesn't really share the same tone with Chess, and I was thinking more about Renju or Go when designing it. I didn't realize it since all these board games in my native language (Mandarin Chinese) share the same suffix "-qi2" which means this kind of strategy board games where you control units and put them on the grids battling against your opponents. When people use "qi2" they are talking about Chess or Xiangqi most of the time, as a result I came up with a wrong word with different nuance for the title of the game. Really sorry, should have made the title clearer.

@jetyh Thank you and your friend for playing! <3 The game is made with me bear in mind balancing it, but I didn't test it very thoroughly. Only when after I published the game did I find an optimal strategy on the 'fullset' board. If I have to trim down the advantage of the first player, it could be better if the game didn't allow one player to deploy a hamster onto another player's hamster, and gave more mana to the second player at the beginning. The math in this game is not perfectly balanced, but anyway, I think the framework is roughly okay to support the idea. I am still satisfied about the outcome of this 3-day LD challenge haha.

(Off-topic: @tino I like your comment under Resurrection)

Infinity - 1 by Potato Imaginator 2020-10-07T10:52:48Z

Whoa brilliant! The experience it brought is so impressive, and I like the level design bringing something new by each level. I beat all the levels. Congratulations!

YOUR TIME by m7rk 2020-10-07T19:02:25Z

The opening animation is marvelous! The atmosphere is well done. I second with @grenk that the game encourages player to dodge every enemy before boss room which seems not intended. I beat the game by doing so. But still the best game I have met for this LD.
