LD38 — A Small World

Timeless by Chaseplays 2017-05-01T07:14:03Z

I never spend so many hours chasing an apple xD That last level was really hard for me, but since I already collected all the previous apple, I HAD to get the last one :p

The fact that the character is really responsive makes it really addicting.

I don't really see where is the time travel in all that, why the inside of the planet change that much depending on the year, but hey! :no_mouth:

ATLANTIS by OccultOne 2017-05-01T09:07:29Z

I feel like more that a game, it's a prototype with a lot of potential. It could become a very interesting complete strategy game. I encourage you guys to continue on that path ;p congrats

(Like everyone else I didn't figure out what to do, your video is good for that :ok_hand: )

SittingDucks by Iak 2017-05-01T07:47:52Z

That game as a really strange vibe. Why ducks? Why protecting the earth? And what are those aliens? That + the hypnotic music and you have a really particular experience.

Maybe having a better feeling of progression would have been cool, because I have no idea how far I went through the game before dying.

Still liked it :p (Why my baby ducks have to die? )

Daydreaming Island by camilo 2017-05-01T06:53:56Z

This game shows that you can have a great mood with simple graphics. So few little pixels can transport you into an other story. I wish I could do that. Good job!

MARBLE GALAXY by Connorses 2017-05-01T06:16:16Z

A little bit more juiciness would have been great. Sound could add a lot more (even to locate enemies more easily). Either than that, the game can be quite addictive, it's pretty cool :p

Realmpusher by danbolt 2017-05-01T07:30:05Z

Remind me those Zelda games :p

Sometimes I pushed blocks without wanting to, because unlike in Zelda, you push them instantly when you are near them, I had to restart twice because of that x)

The sounds, the graphics are really mastered. I had a good time playing your game. Good job!

MagiSEED by Vivoubos 2017-05-01T20:37:46Z

It's a good platformer. I finished it, so it's says a lot already :) I liked the level where you have to avoid the rain (reminded me my game a little bit)

I wonder if it's possible to do the level with the giant plant without getting hit? If not, It means that you need to scale down the difficulty a little bit. Never funny to get hit without being able to do anything!

The music is good, a little bit repetitive but it adds to the charm. And the walking animation is the best! :D Good entry, keep it up.

The Grass is Always Greener by intxparts 2017-05-01T05:21:05Z

Maaaan mountain goat live the good life eating grass all day. I like those kind of short experiences. The sound and the mood are really good. Wish you had more time to see more from you :p

Rocket Roller Space Polo by pkenney 2017-05-01T07:35:53Z

Really simple, but really fun. A multiplayer mode would make it really addictive!

DNAPet by Yirggzmb 2017-05-02T09:56:55Z

Is it just me or all of our creatures seems to have that desperate feeling in their eyes like: "What have you done?!!! Kill meeee!!" Really fun idea, good job.

PS: I agree with the guy on top of me. Now I want a stone at home, we would be best friends <3

Tilil by Roberto Romao 2017-05-02T10:08:36Z

Really good idea. Strategy games are really hard to make and finish completely on a jam, but you managed to do it. The covert art is beautiful also!

Unnatural Resources by codyhansen 2017-05-01T08:02:02Z

Nice concept. I'm sure with more time you could have improve it a lot. Adding sounds of course, but also having some goals, or at least a score system :p Good work!

D4RK and the Small Worlds by abhimonk 2017-05-02T05:43:34Z

It doesn't feel like a jam game. That game has a lot for himself : Perfect music and fx, funny lines, and a challenging boss fight! (A boss fight game where you fight all the planets would have been crazy good)

With a keyboard, the game is really hard, but it's the platformer style that want that. The moons are also easier to avoid than to fight, that is maybe a problem.

Very impressive for a compo game! Good job!

You Are World. by amras0000 2017-05-01T06:47:35Z

I love Ludum Dare for those kind of games. Really relaxing, with a original mood. The end is perfect. Best game that I tried so far ;)

Don't explain the end in the comments also :o So that everyone can have his own opinion about it. I didn't understand the system with the water also? Is there a specific way of putting the tiles together? I just placed them randomly and it worked so...

Congratulations for your amazing game anyway !

Wee Planet by radmccool 2017-05-01T10:09:37Z

I can't play it, unreal crash at launch :( (The two files)

Invaders of Yekithar by skippuku 2017-04-30T05:19:06Z

386 is my high score :p . I like the music and the sound effects, it gives a real arcade and retro vibe to the game. I don't know if the recoil is on purpose, but it makes the game really hard for some reason x) Maybe also having the generator heal up would have been nice. So that you are not doom after a certain time.

In any case, good job!

Dr. M Little's Planet Mass Overdrive by slimabob 2017-05-01T04:10:33Z

Really cool game, I like the humor. More challenge would have been good, because for now it finishes too soon. But very impressive considering the amount of time that you had!

May I Come In? by IkigaiSeitetsu 2017-05-01T08:44:33Z

Good concept. At first I didn't understand how to put my citizens in their working station. I had to check the instructions a second time.

The yellow numbers are hard to read on the characters, when they are in front of each other you also don't see them, it's hard to keep track on everyone. To not loose them, the best strategy is to just put them in the food because you can't keep track of everyone. (specially because of the hard to read numbers).

I like the mood of the game anyway ;) Good work!

Brawll by Bendev_Games 2017-05-02T06:42:06Z

Maaaan, it reminded me some minigames in Crash Bash on Playstation as a child https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBtEfTc3CBg The sounds are just perfect, it feels like a true fight. A true juicy game!

You could have done it an easy way and do it multiplayer (which would have been really fun btw), but you did a really good AI that feels alive and everything. Good job, one of the best games I played so far.

Holy Shit! A Spider !!! by Aurelien 2017-05-01T06:29:00Z

Yes! I definitely don't regret having added those little audio jokes in the last hours of the jam :p You guys seems to like it. I'll definitely keep that in mind for my next games, it was also really fun to record! Thank you for the feedbacks people, I want mooooore :D

Holy Shit! A Spider !!! by Aurelien 2017-05-01T19:33:29Z

@ikigaiseitetsu Yes! The multiplier is also what I like the most. That's why it's a shame I didn't explain it more clearly in the game. It's really about the dilemna! Glad you like it as I do

@sagarpatel25700 Thanks a lot! Always cool to see that people find it good

@christian-koch The freezes happens only with the WebGL version. I'm really new at all that so I don't know where it comes from. You can still try the downloadable version if it's really not playable :p Thanks for your comment.

@chloravirgo and @zarkonnen I outted myself from audio because the sounds and music, except the voices, are not from me. Since it plays a lot in the mood of the game, I didn't want to take the room against people that made everything themselves.(And this is often very impressive)

And comparing my game with The Stanley Parable is a little bit too much  (I LOVE that game)

@camilo "I hate spiders"... oh no! my spider ~~propaganda~~ game is not working at changing mind as it should! Glad you liked the lines :p

Holy Shit! A Spider !!! by Aurelien 2017-05-02T04:53:52Z

@pkenney Thank you for your comment!

Congratulations, I think you are the first to beat the dev high-score (2000), well done! Now I want to beat that :p

I'm aware of that bug with the spraycan, I'm not sure if I'm allow to fix since the judging already started. I also don't have much time since I'm already working on a new game going out soon! (follow me on itch.io)

Thank you again for your very long and constructive comment

Holy Shit! A Spider !!! by Aurelien 2017-05-10T08:26:17Z

Thank you all for the feedback. I have a pretty good idea of what works and what doesn't in my game now :p I also think the seamless gameplay loop is really important in my game. ( I tried first with a "game over" screen, it was not working. @richard-michael-smith That's funny, I had EXACTLY this idea. But didn't had time to implement it. The animation would have not been easy to do for that also.

PINKO ADVENTURE! by Arin 2017-05-01T20:02:13Z

This is one of the best story telling ever. Until the end, you really care about that little worm! I had more emotions in 5 minutes of gameplay than in 5 hours in The Last of Us!

The ants are really unfair also, put a checkpoint or something like that, for us that are not so good at controlling the worm! Anyway, nice entry! Loved the ending!

Missing Lands by potatolain 2017-05-10T16:49:21Z

I'm not really aware of how difficult it is to make a game for the NES. But even without that in mind, the game is still fun to play and complete.

The Life Amoebic by Baby Dino Herd 2017-05-02T06:25:42Z

Really good sound design. I would have really appreciated some goals, points or objective in the game. Is there an end? Still, very relaxing game, good work on that.

Little Eco Planet by Wheerd 2017-05-01T08:13:19Z

You seems to have a lot of level, that's good! The tutorial was maybe not needed. When we play the game, we don't feel like we will see something new (like a new animal) because you are already showing everything on the tutorial. I know it's really hard to come out with those level designs, so it's pretty impressive in a so short amount of time. Nice entry

Super Squareface by LaceMattley 2017-05-01T09:42:20Z

The game is pretty good overall. I have some notes : There is some parts where it seems you HAVE to loose hearts to move on. Also some times, you respawn on an enemy, or in the last part, when climbing the ladder, the snowman throw you an inavoidable snowball :o

Still, congratulation for your game

Harry Inks Shrinks by Oxlander 2017-05-01T05:43:40Z

The concept is really interesting, I hope next time you will be able finish it. I'm sure you will make some crazy good games in the future :p Good luck!

A World in a Shoebox... by Articulated9 2017-05-01T20:23:39Z

Most scariest sign ever! :p

The sound is really crucial for this kind of game. It's a shame you didn't had time (can you imagine a Zelda game without music?).

The world is interesting, I like the hero (what is it by the way?), and the dash has a really good feel. I would definitely look into your next games and see your progress in the game making universe.

Disco Maze by larwick 2017-05-01T20:09:55Z

That game has everything! It has square, it has disco...And also a way to cheat!!! Perfect for me  I want a dev commentary for this game :p

Legends Of Block by sagarpatel25700 2017-05-01T09:22:16Z

Best score: 810 ( I always like when there is a score system!)

That's a really good first jam entry, the dash attack is my favorite. The level is nice, it makes you want to navigate in it, using all your skills at your disposal. I like the slight screenshakes also.

I would say the downside is (except the graphics but you know it ;P) the physic of the shooting, it would have been good to be able to shoot where your mouse his I believe. It makes it clunky to only be able to shoot in straight lines.

Good entry !

Trindle Tabletop Experiment by vkmicro 2017-05-01T05:33:23Z

the riddle levels are the best, try to put more of these next time :)

4 Hours by Christian Koch 2017-05-01T10:25:57Z

The idea is really interesting. I like the tooltips, it does not brake the flow of the game. Why did you put a button (T) to switch power since you don't use them against the same cubes anyway? (I didn't get to level 4, so maybe it becomes relevant then)

Kanjo by Kataware 2017-05-10T17:06:16Z

The intro makes you want to know more. It sets up the mood of the game and yes! The music is really good. I didn't quite get the fight mechanic though, sometimes, the game just say that it's not my turn, but there's no indication that tell me if it's my turn or not?

The Little World by JayTord 2017-05-01T10:03:51Z

The little Prince had a lot of work! How does he find the time to look at the sunset?

Good realization indeed, a shame that there is no audio :(

Still! Good Job!

Lost in the Woods by Pantsuman 2017-05-01T20:49:16Z

+1 for the mana potion idea, it would really fix the "stay in the corner and shoot" problem. The game would win a lot of fun with that!

Life of an Ant by Connor McGrory 2017-05-02T05:19:43Z

The dialogues are gold. The music is also really good, it's not too repetitive as we can often see in compo games.

I also didn't know what to do after I became a red ant. And I couldn't find a way to carry the food and the dirt. Hope you can fix it so that I can know what happen at the end :p

Sling Ship 🌏 by Quoclon 2017-05-01T06:07:59Z

I don't know if I'm bad or if the game is really hard. But the second level is really impossible for me. I like the concept still. A smoother learning curve would give this game a huge improve .

Seven Pillars by Jeremy Ryan 2017-05-01T08:28:20Z

The animations are pretty good. It was really hard for me to figure out which circles are which keys on the keyboard. It would have been great to have an option to display the keys on the circles. I like those type of game where you have to go fast, but I struggled a lot on this one x). Glad I'm not a kung-fu cat :p (you, in an other side, are really good as I can see)

Its a small world by SuperMsp10 2017-05-02T06:16:49Z

The graphics and the concept are really basic, but it works! Wish the environment were more detailed, because it would really be perfect for an exploration game were you discover some new stuff on each planet :p The music is also very repetitive, no music and sound effects would have been good :p

Still, nice entry! It's also really addictive to power up your character! Thanks for your game

Cosmic Cleaner by Burgee 2017-05-01T05:38:01Z

Like said above, the level of polish is pretty impressive for a ludum dare game! And it's the kind of game that you can pass hours on, trying to master it. Far funnier than regular golf, good game :p

World of My Own by kantieno 2017-05-02T09:22:08Z

Wow, so you can do a roguelike in a gamejam :o

What I could say is that the game miss a lot of "juice", like other said, flashing enemies, more dynanism etc...

Always impressive to see what people can come up with! It's a lot of content for a so short period of time, good job!
