I REALLY like the idea for this game, and it fits the theme too! It's fun, and kinda reminds me of Super Mario 64 in a sense. The graphics are simplistic, yet pleasant to look at. Especially with the particle effects. It could use more variety though, the custom mode isn't enough for me. Difficulty is definitely well balanced. Nice job.

The z and x keys were a little bit far away for me, but I am using QWERTZ keyboard, maybe using y as an additional key for z would help? The controls felt good and I like that there are different game modes. My strategy was to remove the bounds and wait until the enemy falls out, which was fun . Was this correct?

Nice game!

bendev-games 2017-05-01 21:02

@for-science It is one of the valid strategies yeah! Great to hear you had fun :D

furazin 2017-05-01 22:47

Extremely addictive. Your AI works incredibly good dude! Congratulation.

This was a fun fighting game that, while simple, was still interesting. Although everything felt slow and slippery, while a faster combat system may have been to the game's advantage. I enjoyed the "durability" mechanic of the wall, which was an interesting innovation on fighting games, and the different gamemodes were a nice touch! Great job!

abhimonk 2017-05-01 22:51

Wow great game! I really liked how simple the mechanics were, and how good it felt to use the Force special. It felt really satisfying to knock an enemy out with the dash. Also, even though the art was simple, it fit very well. I also like the sounds and the effects of the dash. My favorite part is how relentless the AI is. It was very satisfying to juke the AI and try to outplay them(The intangible powerup is brilliant by the way). The music was also really good. It fit the battle and the "outer space" part of the theme really well. Great job!

cartercook 2017-05-01 22:58

Great game with a modest premise that really delivers what it promises. Being knocked off the board really makes you hit that play again button (thank you for putting in checkpoints and not making me start from scratch) I could honestly see myself throwing an evening into this with a friend. My only complaint is that it doesn't have local multiplayer :'(

kr4ft3r 2017-05-02 01:53

Played through all the enemies. Though at higher challenges it seems the results of enemies actions are too chaotic which leads to what looks like winning by luck. Great example of making a finished gameplay out of basic elements and simple rules, good work.

Maaaan, it reminded me some minigames in Crash Bash on Playstation as a child https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBtEfTc3CBg The sounds are just perfect, it feels like a true fight. A true juicy game!

You could have done it an easy way and do it multiplayer (which would have been really fun btw), but you did a really good AI that feels alive and everything. Good job, one of the best games I played so far.

arcticmattekar 2017-05-02 10:05

Interesting idea. I like that you implemented different modes to play and that your AI is kind of smart :)

turbo-hermit 2017-05-02 11:36

The gameplay is simple but a lot of fun. Falls kind of flat in all other areas though.

zicboy 2017-05-02 15:19

Simple and fun game!

crazi456 2017-05-03 02:57

Fun game! Very solid controls and nice music. Good work!

seth 2017-05-03 03:45

Very cool! I kind of would like it if the walls started at the yellow stage, so it would make the game a little faster paces.

tuteupaituamae 2017-05-03 12:56

Nice game art bro

That was fun! Have you tried to make the movement faster and with less momentum?

mr-mcgibblets 2017-05-03 22:29

This was one of the more fun games I've played so far. It did feel like a brawler mini-game in the playstation games of the past and that is not a bad thing at all.

One suggestion for next time: and this goes for everyone that submitted something, (including myself). Think about "Why would the player want to play this?" and "Why should the player care?" and "How can I keep the player engaged and give them real depth of gameplay?"

yves 2017-05-03 23:17

Very enjoyable game! I liked the most when I played against 8 bots which is super fun if you use force and kill like 5 at once :D There could be a bit more art variation making it more interesting for the eye :)

Cheers

davidrico 2017-05-04 14:16

Simple but fun! Could use some polish on the graphics and that kind of stuff, but the gameplay feels quite solid for a jam entry. Also, the AI works great. Good work!

kalabasa 2017-05-04 16:34

Simply fun game!

Gameplay and AI is good! The powerups and those little details (like the shockwave) makes it feel like a complete game rather than a weekend hack. My only complaint is the graphics (though simple graphics can also work! with a little more direction or style, I guess).

I feel like faster movement with tighter controls would make the game feel even more "alive" or "action"

This would probably work well as a mobile game, too.

weaverdeveloper 2017-05-04 16:51

First properly fun game I've played so far. It has some balancing/polish missing, suhc as the player sometimes falling straight through a red block rather than bouncing off after it's destroyed, but overall an excellent game.

cambryx 2017-05-04 17:00

This was really cool! It was a lot of fun and I wish there was a 2 player mode! Graphics could also use some improvement but other that it was great. Good Job!

Liked the idea and mechanics a lot. Felt like it was super polished and quite a well rounded thing for what it was (it's good that you kept it simple). Good job!

jaytord 2017-05-04 17:43

Wow, I liked your game a lot, simple but very enjoyable.

Gameplay is great, game even has different AIs. I bit disappointing that I've won most of matches just watching how opponent has charged to the red wall... Also encountered the bug once, it was at level 4, enemy falled down but was not destroyed, he just continued to dash below... I had to commit suicide to replay.

Very nice that there are multiple modes, a shame that there is no battle royal mode, wished to play it.

I believe if you add multiplayer and couple of new features your game could have success at Steam or some other game store.

mordokay 2017-05-04 17:45

This is the best game I have played so far in LD38. Great gameplay and great controlls. The music is there but it doesn't distract you and the A.I. behind the enemies works very well. Overall a very nice experience. Great Job!

mundell 2017-05-06 10:44

Good gamefeel with the screen shake and sound. The AI destroyed me.

mar3k 2017-05-06 20:25

I love the idea. It is really fun and would be probably be even more fun against a real player. Good job (also with the sfx and music)

bendev-games 2017-05-07 07:36

@r8berto @kalabasa We tried playing with faster movement and less momentum, but we (2 of the 3 members of the team) felt that going "slow pace" was better for the player since it gives him more opportunities to react at higher difficulties.

@weaverdeveloper Actually the red wall doesn't have a collider at all! We made it this way because it felt good knocking out an opponent with the wall debris.

Thanks so much, everyone!
